Gingersnap Snatcher

Rate this book
Abuela made cookies to eat after school. The gingersnap kind, just the thought made us drool! We rushed home excited. We opened the door... The cookies were missing-just crumbs on the floor!
The question is... who is the Gingersnap Snatcher?
Reminiscent of Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar, this humorous rhyming story features a diverse family on a mission to discover the ravenous thief.
Was it Mr. Wiggles the cat? Sadie the family dog? Or someone unexpected? You'll have to read to find out!
"The story is sweetly fun and the ending is definitely a surprise I did not expect." - Vivian C. "My K-2 students LOVED the suspense and were guessing along the trail to find the snatcher." -Lori R. "From the beginning to the end it's quite the whodunnit mystery! Plus the song at the end is pretty catchy too!" -Michaela S.

Three little children are dreaming in school about the gingersnap cookies their abuela is baking for Christmas. They can’t wait to reach home and devour those yummy cookies. But once home, they see that only crumbs are left – the cookies are gone! Who ate their cookies? Will the children discover the cookie thief?

This is a very quick and easy story. Young readers will have fun following the three kids on their mission to follow to crumbs and solve the mystery of the missing cookies. There are a couple of animals to boost the cutesy factor. I wish the ending were different. The identity of the culprit will be fun for children to know, but the story can’t stop just there. It feels incomplete.

The book is written in rhythmic prose. It works in some verses, but at other times, the rhymes seem forced.

The illustrations are adorable and the best part of the book. They add tremendous charm to the story.

The final page has a little song named ‘Gingersnap snatcher” written in musical notations, but this will be useful only to those who can read music. This page also hints at other “vocal exploration opportunities” in this book but try as I may, I couldn’t deduce what these opportunities were. There is also an option to get Abuela’s cookie recipe through a QR code. (I would have preferred the recipe to be printed in the book itself. It would have been so much easier for kids to read the recipe and bake the cookies with adult guidance.)

Overall, a quick and fun story for young readers that delivers what the cover promises.

3.25 stars.

My thanks to author Vicky Weber and BookSirens for the DRC of “Gingersnap Snatcher”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love Gingersnap Snatcher by Vicky Weber!! It is such a sweet book for any child to read or have read to them at Christmas! Three siblings come home from school so excited because their Abuela was making ginger snaps for them as an after school snack. But they only found the crumbs when they came in. So what do they do? They followed the crumbs to many places but didn’t find ginger snaps anywhere. Where do you think they would be?

This is a perfect book full of  rhythms to tell they story. Vicky Weber does an excellent job writing this sweet story for children everywhere to enjoy during the Holiday season.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

This cute looking book, well, I just had to read it. I have been hunting for more Christmas/holidays related book now that we are getting closer and closer to the wonderful times. And this one featured not only Christmas but also cookies. And those who know me… know I love cookies!

In this cute book we see three kids whose grandmother made their favourite cookies, gingersnaps. They look forward to it all day, but when they get home, SHOCK, the cookies are gone! We follow the trio on their quest to find out what the heck happened to their precious and yummy cookies! I had fun following them and the cookie crumbles (yes, the thief left a trail) and see who they thought had done it! After a tiny bit I had a big suspicion who it could be.

I had a big laugh at the cat sleeping in the tree. I don’t have a cat myself, but from friends and the internet I know cats are very attracted to Christmas trees. XD

I would have loved to see a recipe on ginger snaps just there on the page. I don’t really want to download a QR code scanner to get that recipe. We do get a song, but my note-reading is terrible these days and I don’t have a musical instrument. I also don’t really get what vocal exploration opportunities meant? I went back to the pages but couldn’t really see anything special happening there.

The illustrations were perfect though, I really loved the style! It was cute and sweet.

All in all, the story was a delight and I am hungry for cookies now. I am happy I got to try this book!

adorable bicultural book

Cute book about who ate the cookies but with a Latinx spin. I loved the story and rhyme. Illustrations are beautiful and offer representation to kids of color. The “thief” is toooooo cute.

This is such an adorable book, and perfect for Christmas. Gingersnaps are a wonderful treat and the children in the book can’t wait to eat them. They come home, eager to taste the cookies, but find an empty plate and a trail of crumbs. The cute artwork follows the three as they go from room to room, thinking about who could have eaten the cookies. They find the usual suspects, like the cat and dog, but it’s someone else! Who could it be? Kids and grownups will love this story.

I was granted complimentary access to Gingersnap Snatcher as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with iRead Book Tours. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

Gingersnap Snatcher is a cute rhyming story about a trio of siblings who can't wait to get home from school because their Abuela has baked ginger snaps for them. Unfortunately for the kids, when they get home all the cookies are gone! Who ate them? That's what they're going to find out.

I love the casual representation of a BIPOC family here in all its wonderful cultural uniqueness. Kids who are Hispanic or Latin-American will see themselves and their families represented here. Other kids are subtly introduced to the idea that families from these cultures often live in multigenerational homes and that grandmothers are called Abuela. All this while going on a hunt for the cookie thief! (It wasn't the cat.)

The ratio of text to page/text to images is perfect for a young audience and this book will surely captivate toddlers all the way up to early primary grades. It's short, interesting, and flows very well. My only concern is that the text, either quite literally hand-printed by the artist over the illustrations or added in a font that looks like printing, is a little on the small side to be layered over colourful images without the help of a translucent text box or any of those sort of children's book tricks. I had the benefit of reading on a computer screen where I could make it bigger, but in print form, it is the size it is.

The illustrations are absolutely adorable! They remind me of the slightly simplified style Disney tends to go with in their spinoff TV series franchises. (I reviewed an early eBook version where later pages were still sketches, and I honestly can't wait to see the cat in the tree fully rendered!) This is going to be a favourite book to look at for a lot of kids out there.

I'll definitely be showing this to my sister who teaches Kindergarten.

Gingersnap Snatcher is a delightful story that will keep readers young and old amused and engaged. It's well-written and the story is told through well-balanced, lyrical rhyming, so it's ideal for a classroom, library, or home read-aloud. The vibrant and expressive illustrations by Svitlana Liuta perfectly complement author Vicky Weber's text for a fun-filled and funny reading experience. I smiled from cover to cover and can't wait to share this story with my granddaughter.

The story and illustrations were wonderful all by themselves, but for those who are musically inclined, Weber goes next level and also includes the music and words to "The Gingersnap Snatcher" song and points readers back to "vocal exploration opportunities hidden in the book." Full disclosure: I am not musically inclined, cannot read music, and had ZERO understanding of those vocal exploration opportunities. I would have loved a link to hear the song so I could sing it and needed some guidance about finding the hidden things in the book.

As an added attraction, the author shares a QR code for readers to get a free download the gingersnap recipe or take it up a notch and order the BaKit Box that comes with a copy of the book and a cookie baking kit. (Must order by 12/14/21.)

With the story set during the holidays, Gingersnap Snatcher would make a great Christmas present and basis for a family activity and quality time tradition to be enjoyed for years to come. I will definitely be exploring this author's other books.

Thank you to the author and iRead Book Tours for a paperback copy in exchange for my honest opinion -- the only kind I give. This full review and other special features on Hall Ways Blog

I received a complimentary copy of this book from iRead Book Tours. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

Oh my goodness gracious, I loved everything about Gingersnap Snatcher.

First, the story was adorable and funny. As an owner of a kitty, I cracked up over the image of Mr. Wiggles, created by Svitlana Liuta, with a mouthful of cookies, and one is his paw. Oh, and the Christmas tree scene is totally relatable. My kitty is either in the tree or lying on the couch, staring at the twinkling lights.

I think toddlers will love looking at all the bright and bold pictures, while elementary school-age children will love trying to solve the mystery alongside the three siblings. I can practically hear the giggles when they discover who the cookie thief was.

After the revelation, stick around; Vicky Weber included bonus material.

1.) “Gingersnap Snatcher” song. To be honest, we (my daughter and I) could not find the right rhythm and beat to make it flow effortlessly. Instead, we sang, “Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?”

2.) A way for you to get Abuela’s gingersnap recipe. Most kids love helping out in the cookie-making process, and they also love eating their creations. If you haven’t made these from scratch yet, now’s the time!

I can’t wait to make these with my youngest!

Vicky Weber's Gingersnap Snatcher was such a fun book for me to read. It was amusing to watch my granddaughter as I read it to her. The cat napping in the tree and the dog snoozing on the couch made her grin and giggle. And it was delightful to watch her excitement when she learned who had taken the cookies!
Gingersnap Snatcher will appeal to youngsters. The pace, rhythm and rhyming characteristics of the tale pique their imagination. The twist near the end, where the children discover the culprit, is perfect as it’s someone no one would suspect!
The illustrator, Svitlana Liuta, has drawn adorable pictures that faithfully follow the narrative. The colors are bright, the three siblings and the animals are endearing, and the adults are not overexaggerated, vapid, vacuous or two-dimensional, as is the case in many preschoolers’ stories.
My granddaughter enjoyed it so much that as soon as I finished reading it the first time, she insisted that I read it again.
At the end of the story, the author has included a fun sing-along. She's also included a code for getting the gingersnaps recipe. I'm now looking for the best egg substitutes to utilize when making gingersnaps with my granddaughter (who is allergic to eggs). Kid's books that are interactive or include things like recipes, such as the Gingersnap Snatcher, are among my favorites. I enjoy making and creating things almost as much as my granddaughter. However, she is a LOT more enthusiastic about it than I am.

Gingersnap Snatcher is More than a Missing Gingersnap Mystery. The missing cookies are just part of the story for young readers. The author "hides" musical patterns throughout the book for readers--as well as the opportunity to download Abuela's gingersnap cookie recipe. Readers will have fun following the cookie crumbs to find the cookie thief--and then even more fun picking out the patterns on the pages to sing the Gingersnap Snatcher melody included at the end.

Readers will Find Fun Illustrations and a Fun Storyline. This book is perfect for storytimes or read-along time--and is even fun for ESL classrooms, too, as it opens up so many little things to talk about as a group! Perfect time for Spanish-speaking students to talk about their own abuelas and for children to find excitement in cookie baking, mystery-solving, following clues, and holidays. The colorful illustrations add to the fun and mystery of following the cookie crumbs and finding the "thief."

Would I Recommend Gingersnap Snatcher by Vicky Weber? This story is an adorable book to share during the holidays. As the children search for Abuela's missing cookies, readers will read on in anticipation with each page. For those interested in singing and musical rhythms--the book helps introduce those as well. My girls would have loved finding the recipe at the end to make as a family! If you are looking for a cute book to read with little mystery solvers--this is a fun one!

I thought Gingersnap Snatcher was a charming story set during the Holiday. It is, also, my first introduction to author Vicky Weber’s books. I read it along with my young children and we enjoyed reading this delightful tale. It is in rhyming form that made it even more entertaining to read. We were left guessing who snatched the gingerbread cookies that their abuela made. We were surprised as to who the culprit was and where the kids found the cookies. We were laughing throughout the book while they went all over the place trying to solve the mystery and laughed even harder how it all ended. It was so cute.

Gingersnap Snatcher is illustrated by the talented artist Svitlana Liuta. Their pictures perfectly go with the story and a great addition to the book. I loved seeing the looks on the children’s faces as they try to solve the mystery of the snatcher.

Gingersnap Snatcher is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who are between the ages of three and eight years of age and for families that are looking for a fun story to add to their Christmas time reading. My family and I will be looking for other books by Vicky Weber to see where else her imagination will take us to next.

I received a soft cover copy of Gingersnap Snatcher from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

A simply adorable book for children with charming illustrations that will have children asking for more. Gingersnap Snatcher by Vicky Weber is a magnetic yet humorous tale of three children who love to eat their Grandma's Gingersnap cookies. So when the kids learn that Grandma has made cookies to eat after they daydream about it. Their dreams are filled with its flavor so much that they start to drool. They rush back home after school only to find the cookies missing. Left behind were only cookie crumbs. The three kids decide to follow the trail and catch the Gingersnap Snatcher. Their doubt rest upon their pets but it was not so. Who then is the thief? Read this engaging picture to find out.

The book is beautifully written in rhyme and it seems that one is singing and not reading. The illustrations along with the text add more to the charm making it a perfect read for the kids. It is a perfect companion to snuggle with children along with some hot chocolate and cookies. Highly recommended to parents and librarians to add to their collection.

The author has also added musical notes of the text for those musically inclined.

Gingersnap Snatcher is an adorable rhyming holiday book about three siblings who are hungry for their Abuela's cookies. And these are not just any cookies but her special gingersnap ones. So off to home from school they go only to find ...crumbs. Who ate all the cookies? These three little detectives get to searching and ruling out the suspects and what they find certainly surprises them and may just surprise the reader as well.

This is a really cute little book with lively and colorful illustrations that brought the story to life. My attention was captured from the start, and I thought it was a clever and cute idea to have a mystery with a Christmas background with a cute twist in the end. It was just a joyous and happy feeling read and a great book to add to any child's holiday reads.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

GINGERSNAP SNATCHER captures the feeling of the holidays as three siblings come home from school ready for a seasonal treat. But where are the cookies that they've been drooling about all day?

In consistent rhyme and rhythm, the story of the missing cookies engages children as they search the house for the cookie thief. Following crumbs and tracking clues through a house decorated for Christmas, they make loads of fun discoveries until the final scene when they find the culprit in a sweet conclusion that is sure to make young children smile. The vivid illustrations add to the festive feel using traditional holiday colors. The author cleverly includes a song at the end and vocal opportunities within the story. Plus, there is a QR code on the last page linking to a recipe for Abuela's delicious gingersnap cookies -- a holiday treat for everyone!

A sincere thank you to the publisher and author for a copy of the book.

Gingersnap Snatcher tells a rhyming story about three siblings eager to return home from school because Abuela (grandmother) made them an after-school snack—gingersnap cookies! But when they opened the front door, they discovered a trail of cookie crumbs on the floor. They set out on a quest to find out who the gingersnap snatcher was. They were in for a big surprise.

This is a simple, entertaining story with fun rhymes, sweet illustrations, and a bit of mystery. There are also a few extra treats at the end, including a gingersnap recipe and the lyrics to a short gingersnap song.

I think kids will enjoy the sing-songy text, cute illustrations, learning a Spanish word, and discovering who snatched the cookies in this cute Christmastime story.

Well this children’s book was absolutely adorable! It’s a great holiday read, but really this one is fun all year round!

When three siblings come home, excited for Abuela’s yummy gingersnap cookies, they find the cookies missing! Following the clues, or crumbs, they work their way through the mystery to find who snatched their gingersnaps!

The story is fun, and really easy for a young child to follow along with while reading. The illustrations are exciting, and really help to tell the story. My daughter was quite invested in this one, and she’s wanted to re-read it multiple times now!

Overall, this one is really fun, and will make any little one giggle as they help solve the mystery!

Grandmothers love to make cookies for their grandchildren, but what happens when the cookies are eaten before the grandchildren get home from school? Author Vicky Weber shares a fun story that will delight both children and adults, as three siblings try to solve the mystery of the missing cookies. The bright, colorful illustrations and rhyming text make Gingerbread Snatcher especially appealing and there's also a song for added fun! As a former librarian, I can see this book being used for a holiday children's program and it would also be a wonderful resource for teachers. Do yourself a favor and snatch up a copy of Gingerbread Snatcher!

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy from iRead Book Tours. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

When the children come home, they can tell that Abuela (which is Grandma in Spanish) made gingersnaps, but all they find is crumbs! They follow the crumb trail past the usual suspects: the cat, the dog, their mom, and finally they find the thief!

This is a cute book with colorful illustrations. The sentences rhyme, and the text is easy to read so it’s a good one for young readers. I’m looking forward to sharing this with my grandchildren.

The author has a good sense of humor. The book is cute, but her dedication is as well: “To all the Sorta-Ricans, just like me.”

This is a great addition to your holiday children's books collection. It isn't specifically geared towards any one holiday so it can be enjoyed by anyone. It's simply a cute story where three siblings try to figure out who stole and ate their gingersnap cookies made by Abuela. I love that it encourages kids to figure out the mystery on their own and follow their curiosities. The kids easily could have asked their parents to solve it for them but instead followed the clues all the way to a big surprise ending!

At the end, there's a song and a recipe for making your own Gingersnap Cookies. That's a huge added bonus for some quality time with the family.

Fun and cute detective story children will enjoy reading

This is a cute story about three kids who look forward to eating their abuela’s gingersnap cookies. But, when they get home, there’s nothing but crumbs! They follow the trail of crumbs to see who it is and makes guesses along the way. They think it’s their cat or dog. In the end, you’ll be surprised to see who the ginger snap snatcher is! This story was fun to read. Simple and easy text combined with bright, colorful illustrations makes it a great book. I kept turning the pages to see what who could it be! Must read!

Gingersnap Snatcher is a quick, easy read that children will find entertaining and fun. It's a story about three siblings who can't wait to get home from school so they can eat some gingersnap cookies baked by Abuela. Unfortunately, when they arrive home, they see the cookies are missing. All that's left are crumbs. Who is the Gingersnap Snatcher? Readers can join the siblings as they go through the house, trying to find the culprit who stole the cookies.
This was a cute read, and I really enjoyed reading it to my son. It's a festive holiday-esque read that can still be enjoyed at any time of the year. The illustrations are also wonderful.

The book is a beautiful, fun, story that students love and that incorporates a little of the author's own culture around the holidays into the story as well! Nice song at the end of the book for students to sing to connect the story to music! The ebook/kindle version of the book is large, lovely, and easy to pull up for reading to a class on a Smartboard. Lovely story and song! Great holiday activity for music classes (particularly with young students but could possibly work with older students as well, depending on your group).

This is a really cute rhyming book. Sure to get your children giggling.

The children are excited because their grandmother made cookies.

“We rushed home excited. We opened the door…
The cookies were missing - just crumbs on the floor!”

Now the children search for the thief. Who stole their cookies?

The illustrations are adorable, and there are small details in the illustrations that are perfect for pointing out to your children.

The story was cute and the illustrations were adorable, but I wanted something more. Maybe make the story educational by adding the song and the recipe into the story, rather than simply placing them at the end. Have the cookie snatcher teach the children how to make the cookies and sing the song or play it on the piano. Bring all the components together and make the characters connect.

Weber does a fantastic job creating a children's book that can be read at home as well as utilized in the music classroom. The story is both cultural, appeals to Christmas, and incorporates vocal exploration through the storyline and illustrations. I recommend this book with children ages birth-8 years old, and grades pre-K-2nd for the classroom. My children really enjoyed this story and my students at school used this story as a premise for creating their own vocal exploration projects.

This book was so much fun for my kids and I to read together. It was quick, easy but also engaging and playful. It is targeted for around preschool age, but my 3rd & 4th grader still loved following the crumbs (clues) to find out who stole all the cookies.

The illustrations were so eye-catching and there was just enough whimsy to keep us all entertained. We especially loved the ending! Definitely a recommended read for this holiday season!

Wonderful addition to the primary music classroom or for a parent with young children. This holiday has wonderful opportunities for vocal exploration as the children seek to find the identity of the mysterious cookie snatcher. The illustrations are endearing and the song included made this a wonderful way for the children to participate throughout the story.

Firstly the illustrations are gorgeous. The book flowed extremely well. I just wanted more, it’s really short and sweet but ended suddenly. I did laugh when I found out who was in the closet. This is a fun colourful delightful book enough to keep children in awe.

I loved how the book has a fun fact of what ‘Abuela’ means and also a QR link to the Gingersnap recipe. I’m really intrigued to know what the vocal exploration opportunities are that are hidden in the book as I only read a PDF copy.

I really enjoyed the illustrations for this wonderful, cute story. There is a little mystery and you will laugh a bit. These three children have to figure out who ate the cookies. This is a great story fir parents to read to their little ones or for young children who are learning to read to themselves. I received a copy of this book from ireadbooktour for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
