Lionel Poops

Rate this book
In Lionel Poops, Lionel cheerfully tries all sorts of places to poop before ending up proudly on the potty.

Lionel is bouncing on his trampoline when all of a sudden he needs to poop. Where will he do it? On some cows! Oh no, Lionel! On some wildcats! No, Lionel! Lionel thinks of many inappropriate places but eventually poops on his potty. Well done, Lionel! But wait--that's not all...

Cheeky toddler lion Lionel learns about looking after his own body. His mischievous grin puts the reader instantly on his side, and the tolerant voice of his adult helper provides an amused commentary. Ideal to read to a child while they are on a potty.

My 4 year old and I both get the giggles when we read this short board book. She loves shouting “no Lionel no!” along with the book. This is great for the 18 months-5 years crowd who are 1) obsessed with bodily functions and 2) learning about using the toilet.

This board book originally published in France will surely elicit many giggles from young readers or the adults in their lives. After all, learning to use the potty is an important milestone in a child's life, but it comes with its own challenges. While bouncing on his trampoline, Lionel, a young lion with a bounteous mane, feels the urge to poop. As youngsters tend to do, he prepares to poop wherever he is, on various objects and creatures, all while hearing the refrain "NO, LIONEL, NO!" Somehow, he manages to hold on until he reaches his potty and gets some relief. Readers will snigger when they find out what else Lionel has done. The illustrations rely on soft colors and simple images on the right-hand pages while the text is placed on the left-hand pages. This one might be a funny title to share with a little one who is experiencing the same challenges as Lionel or to celebrate the successful use of a potty.

Good one. A quick board book with a simple sentence per page. Shows the potty. Going to read this one again. In the end, he peed too (which is so helpful).

Praying, wishing, hoping that this boy will fraking use the potty sooner than later. So this will be read at LEAST once more. Here's hoping it works.

Pray for me. He's almost 4.

This is so funny. I wish it were available in picture book format! I want to read it with slightly older kids (kinder, first) but they won't like the small board book format. Still, best book ever. There is nothing funnier than pooping on the sun.

Kate’s Thoughts: This is so funny. I wish it were available in picture book format! I want to read it with slightly older kids (kindergarten, first) but they may not like the small board book format. Still, best book ever. There is nothing funnier than pooping on the sun.

I don’t love this book, but my toddler does, though she’s not at the point of thinking it’s funny. It’s a very serious topic, poop.

A silly take on using the potty that my older kids loved/laughed about and my potty trainer toddler didn't quite understand.

A colleague and I had a good giggle over this. Love the artwork (reminded me of the simplicity of Roger Hargreaves' Mr Men books), and the expressions on the faces of potential poop recipients!

Veillé, a master of cartoon art in children's books, takes on life skills in two adorable board books. His vibrant art shows a little lion named Lionel who is trying to master pooping in the right place and eating on his own. The books are the perfect combination of text and image, with repetition and humor for parent and child alike.

In Lionel Poops, Lionel is jumping on a trampoline when the urge hits. He contemplates pooping on cows, wild cats, even the Eiffel Tower, but each time the response from the off-page adult is, "No, Lionel, no!" Kids will love predicting when that line can be repeated. Eventually, Lionel poops in his potty, and pees as well. All of the animals and landmarks he almost pooped on tell him, "Well done, Lionel!" as he bows over his red potty.

The ultimate toddler laugh marathon! Because I have the sense of humor of an eight year old boy, I wasn’t far off of Parker‘s reaction to this very poopy airborne lion’s scatalogical adventures.

For some reason, my daughter was very appalled that the lion had a belly button. For me and Parker, it was just another reason to laugh louder.
