What happens when a trained Fairy Assistant becomes the very object she was meant to guide?
Contains all four books in the Hapless Dungeon Fairy series: The Dungeon Fairy The Dungeon Fairy: Two Choices The Dungeon Fairy: Three Lives The Dungeon Fairy: Four Days
All that Tacca GloomLily ever wanted to be since she was very little was a Fairy Assistant to a Dungeon Core. After her negatively portentous birth, however, she was never fully accepted by her superstitious peers and instructors at the Dungeon Assistant Preparatory School; nevertheless, she persisted in her studies and graduated at the top of her class.
Unfortunately for her, the “hands-on” training she was supposed to receive from a Mentor and his Bonded Dungeon Core didn’t go the way she would’ve hoped. In fact, the stigma attached to her origins finally made itself known in the form of horrendously “bad luck”; the rotten part of her newly discovered luck was that it adversely affected Cores that she happened to be near, and not just herself.
What can a Dungeon Assistant Fairy do when every Dungeon Core she gets near ends up being destroyed? Tacca had no idea, but a solution eventually presents itself – though it was one that she never saw coming…
This story contains Dungeon Core elements such as dungeon construction and defense, LitRPG/GameLit mechanics such as character progression and stats, and contains no harems/sexual content or profanity.
Wow, what a ride! This is a fun book/series with some fun plot twists that you don't see coming. Jonathan goes into a lot of details describing scenes and characters that give you a feeling of being in the action yourself. A lot of character development so you actually feel for the characters and really dislike the bad ones, there was a few times I was going for justice to be served. A very interesting take on Dungeon Core/LitRPG story telling that adds a new level of thought and excitement. Speaking of thought, the amount of work the author must have put into this book has to have been insane, as storylines from book to book begin to connect and intertwine.
So previously we saw humanoids and dungeon cores in more depth. Now we see more of the dungeon faries.
While the story is unique, dealing with external creatures from distant places, the story is moving to deal with unresolved threads in future adventures.
One thing interesting is that while some writers deal with understanding and even manipulation of the system behind the dungeons and the rest of life on the planet, this writer deals with activities augmented by the system but very little of the system itself.
I am interested in the upcoming conclusion (?) Of these story arcs.
My favorite Jonathan Brooks series, this has some fantastic ideas and world building and was a huge motivator to me in my own writing. I will always be grateful for this book and recommend it to people regularly. Also excellent characters well done, you come to care both for the core and the main adventurers quite a bit. It does take a tiny bit to get into because of the sad start for Taka, but once in, you're rooting for her quite a bit. Extremely good, much wow, and I highly recommend.
I really enjoyed the visualization that was presented throughout the series, I started by feeling sorry for the fairy but loved her final transition and the ultimate ending. If I had any real negative to say it would be a pet peeve of mine about the constant use of the phrase "these ones" and "those ones" I would have thought a decent editor if not the writer himself would have noticed it as much as it is used.
Another solid introduction to the Dungeon Core genre
Honestly it's just a fun story. It's stat heavy but stats are often in separate chapters meaning they can be skipped if it's not your thing. The world is well established with lots of hints as to things that are going on behind the scenes. It's also a complete series which is a major attraction for me.
Seeing things from the point of view of a dungeon was fascinating. The manner of detailing in the world building as well as the character detail kept me turning page after page, almost not putting it down to do mundane things like eat, sleep and chores. This was the best read I have had in a long time!
Great story while there was to much data details for me I’m sure many readers loved the attention to detail. Really like the character development and the interaction between all of the groups. Just a lot of fun.
Great concept. Set in another dimension for realism. A multitude of amazing characters you'll come to love. An unreal mix of monsters, aliens, interdimensional beings, technology & magic.
I just couldn't stop reading the series. I really love the build up of the story. It has interesting mechanics and the stats are there but not intrusive. The writing style is easy to digest and I had fun reading it.
I like that the Tacca was considered bad luck just because of where she was born. I also just knew that the invaders were the helliothroups. I now want to read the next book, which is not even done yet.
Some of the fights drug on a bit too long, some unnecessary verbage to add tothe word count, in my opinion. While interesting and mostly entertaining, I skipped over bits that seemed to drag on forever.
