Just An Illusion – Unplugged by D. Kelly is what we have all been waiting for – Sawyer’s story. I knew it would be painfully beautiful, reading Sawyer’s words but I wasn’t as prepared for the emotions as I thought I would be.

Even though being a twin had its annoyances at times, I’d never trade it for the world… Being half of Noah and Sawyer was my entire life…No one in the world knew me as completely as Noah did and vice versa. – Sawyer

What had me in my feelings the most was the strain loving Mel had on Sawyer and Noah’s relationship. I never doubted Sawyer’s love for his brother in the first three books, but I gained a new level of respect for Sawyer knowing how hard he fought for his brother. He was more selfless than I could have ever thought.

I love how D. Kelly focused on Noah and Sawyer’s relationship and how family ties are stronger than personal feelings. It’s a testament to how blood is thicker than water. You’ve heard the term, “Bros before hoes” I’m sure. Well, Sawyer and Noah are proof of how deep that statement is.

It was crazy to see the world through the eyes of those around Noah, Mel, and Sawyer. Even Noah’s best friend could see that Sawyer loved Mel yet never never felt like he had to chose between the twins.
“Regardless of how you both feel, she picked him, and I guess that’s where I’m at in this. I’m not on your side or his side, I’m on her side” – Wyatt

We all know how this story goes. We all know how it ends. I knew how everything would play but yet, I still felt like I was reading this story for the first time. Every word was new, every sentence was new, every emotion was new and I didn’t expect that.

Do I recommend this book? Really? It is not obvious? I recommend that everybody and their mama reads this entire series.

Will I read another book by this author? There is nothing in this world that would stop me from reading another book by D. Kelly. The woman is fucking brilliant.

Follow all things messy. . .

I am so in love with this series. It was amazing getting to read the first part of the story from Sawyer's perspective, and I love how he loved her all along, and how obvious it is now that I see it through his eyes.

Finally getting Sawyer's thoughts and feelings was everything I hoped for and more. We fell in love with him and the entire Weston and Bastards and Dangerous family throughout the Just An Illusion series, but seeing all the events play out through his eyes is the icing on the cake. Unplugged is not a stand alone and should only be read after enjoying the previous 3 books in the series.

Even though there aren't truly new events in this book, it isn't simply a recap of the prior books either. We get more detail on events that were previously alluded to as well as interactions/conversations that occurred concurrently with what we already know. There is greater character development and depth of emotion through the interactions of our characters and Sawyer. It was definitely painful at times to know how Sawyer was feeling, but it shed so much light on his actions through the series. Besides finding out his side of the story, I especially loved seeing his friendship with Belle blossom and his interactions with his family. If you weren't already #TeamSawyer before this book, there's no doubt you will be after this! Thankfully, there is no cliffhanger at the end of Unplugged and we have one more book to look forward to from Sawyer's POV! I can't wait!

A beautiful man with a beautiful, bruised heart…

I don’t know how I survived book three in this series but this follow up, more like a prequel, filled all the painful cracks left behind….

“Often wondered how my life would be different if I’d been born first.”

Sawyer and Noah were twins and shared so much in their lives. Most was good, lots of it great, but there were times when the brothers, best friends through life, didn’t like each other very much. Music, business and love would interfere in their relationship to the point it might never recover…

Told completely from Sawyer’s point of view, each chapter revisited a story I thought I knew. After reading his words, feeling all his emotions, I feel a deeper understanding of actions and conversations that followed. It also showed even more the depths of grief and anguish he had to get through to find peace and happiness again. I want to read this story again from the beginning, knowing what I now know, to feel it all again with a clearer eye and a heart that understands so much more…

Read this book. Read this series. Your heart will hate you and thank you at the same time.

I loved this series and could not wait for this book. I loved Noah but I really really loved Sawyer. There was just something about the bad boy rocker who was in love with his brother’s girl. We never got to see his point of view in the series but you just knew how much he felt for Mel, but also how much his relationship with his brother meant to him.

Unplugged digs deeper into his feelings and that is what I loved. I loved that we get to see just how deep his feelings truly are for this girl. But this was not just about Mel, this was also about his relationship with his brother and the love he has for him and his family. He may be cocky and arrogant with a bit of a**hole in him, but beneath all of that is this amazing, caring and selfless man. Yes we know that his feelings for Mel may have put a strain on his relationship with his brother but in Unplugged we see the sacrifices that this man makes, the pain he goes through because of those sacrifices and it just made me love him even more.

If you have read this series you know how it begins, how it ends and everything in between, so I am not going to go into any detail about that. This is the book I have been waiting for and D.Kelly did not disappoint. Honestly she exceeded any expectations that I had. Ms. Kelly dug deep into Sawyer’s heart and soul and gave us a beautiful story. It was every bit emotional as I thought it would be. I have a new found love and respect for Sawyer Weston, after hearing his side and truly understanding his actions and feelings. I loved his relationship with his best friend Anna and his sister. I want to go back and read the series again after reading this one. An amazing job.

The Just An Illusion original trilogy topped my 2017 reading list, and my all time tissue killing list. (Note:. These must be read before this book.). I have been anxiously awaiting this first book in Sawyer's duet, and it did not disappoint.

Just because you think you know the story, it really isn't complete without Sawyer's view point. And there are plenty of surprises along the way. I won't give spoilers, but one friendship in particular we didn't really know about was particularly endearing.

The emotions are all there, but perhaps Ms. Kelly realizes how much she put us through the ringer the first time through - this one is a beautiful ride through Sawyer's mind, heart and soul (and as this is the first book in a duet, we haven't made it to the most difficult part of his reminiscence yet.). The tears that did fall for me came in the present day chapters for the most part, but those situations are not at all tragic. Selling me on Sawyer was never a difficult job, but she brought a few sides to the table that I guess I didn't expect. The word stoic comes to mind. And maybe the B in BAD should stand for Beautiful because Sawyer is a beautiful human, perhaps especially in the times we originally thought he was the furthest from it.

An absolute must read for everyone who has read A, B and EP....and if you haven't read those, do so immediately. Then read Unplugged. I don't have words for how this series has moved me and how much I look forward to more.

I LOVE Sawyer!!!

This series is by far one of my favorites across the board. These characters are EVERYTHING!!! This story is a beautiful reflection of the the true strenth of the bond that can exist between friends and family. There is so so much love and loyalty and protection amongst this group of people that you cannot help but want to be a part of what they all shared.

Sawyer and Noah's bond as twins and friends was truly remarkable. Both were so in tune with their feelings and their ability to communicate with each other, even if at times some things were not out in the open. It was so clear that their relationship was the most important thing for both of them. Their ability to recognize and own up to their mistakes was kind of inspiring.

I have always always loved Sawyer, so reading this book from his POV was such an experience, and I treasured every word on every page. It is rare to see someone put someone else's happiness above their own, and for that he will always be a true hero in my book. I've said it before, but Dee Kelly has a true gift with words. She has created a set of characters that you just truly want to know and a story that is so heartbreaking, but healing and hopeful all at the same time. A definite 5 star read!!!

*Don’t read this unless you’ve read the previous books in this series*

Ok I wasn’t sure how this book was going to play out. One, because Dee warned us it was everything we had already read but in Sawyers eyes. And well I’m not big on rereading the same book cause I want more! Ya know? (unless it’s for the purpose of rereading the same book) And two, because I knew I would probably cry my eyes out again.
Well well well ladies let me tell you. This book is everything. I have always been #TeamSawyer but now ALL I see is him. Sawyer is amazing!!! 😍 He has you seeing things so much clearly now. How much he struggled everyday. How much he sacrificed. How much his love was for not only Mel but Noah too. If you loved Sawyer before you will love him more now. If you were #TeamNoah before. This may make you switch sides. 🤭 Or may just help you understand Sawyer so much more. This was a great read and can’t wait for the next one to complete Sawyer’s story. ❤️ Dee has done it again. 🙌🏼 #OopsSheDidItAgain

So even though I've read the series, reading this book still felt like I was reading for the first time. Reading this book brings a whole new perspective to the story from Sawyers PoV. This was an emotional read, beautiful yet heartbreaking for Sawyer, having the opportunity to revisit these stories through Sawyers experience has been a bit of a rollercoaster of a journey.
It's a wonderful instalment that has been a particularly emotionally evocative experience...a perfect ending for the series.

The Illusion series is one of my most favorite series ever. I laughed, cried, swooned and had my heart broken and it was all worth it. This series was everything. Now, now we finally get Sawyer's side of things and let me tell you, if you thought you knew this story, you don't.

Sawyer is such an amazing man. He was such a jerk at times and so full of himself, but that was more of a self-defense in not letting others in. Because Sawyer, Sawyer was so much more. He was a man with many layers that always seemed to put others before him.

This book is a wonderful addition to this series and I am so excited to read the next book.

Happy reading!

How can you improve on profection? Well, you have Dee Kelly write a book from Sawyer’s point of view and boy does she knock it out of the park! For anyone who has followed Just an Illusion series you are going to see our favorite bad boy, Sawyer and his take on anything BAD, Noah and Mel. It’s a great read that even though, you know how the story of Noah and Mel goes (tear, tear) it’s great to see it from Sawyer’s prospective. There is no question I’ll be waiting on pins and needles for the second half of Sawyer and Mel’s story. This is truly a series I can’t get enough of.

I received this book as an ARC for a freely given and honest review.

OMG! This book just made me realize why I fell in love with this series to begin with, not that it's hard to remember. This author knows how to give you a story that will make you FEEL because even though I know what happens, this one still had my heart racing. I loved getting Sawyer's perspective on how he was feeling and dealing with everything concerning Noah and Mel. I absolutely loved reading about these characters again and this book made me miss Noah even more. However, I'm so happy that Sawyer found his forever and I absolutely loved the update on him, Mel and their family, including Darren and Cadence(Cady). It's said that Sawyer's story can't be told in one book and I definitely look forward to the rest of the story. This book makes me want to read this series again starting with the very first book. There is no way to read this series and not fall in love with it and if you've read this series and loved it, this book will not disappoint.

I started this book thinking it will just be the same as the first three since technically it's the same story and we know how it ends. I loved the first three books but reading it from Sawyer's point of view is amazing. We see the true relationship between Sawyer and Noah, Sawyer and Belle, Sawyer and "Princess", Sawyer and the rest of the band. It truly is an emotional book but I loved every bit of it. I also like how Dee didnt make Noah a bad person in Sawyer's book. They are both wonderful brothers and princess is a lucky girl. I loved been in Sawyer's mind and can't wait to read the second book.

I chose to not reread Side A or B before reading Unplugged. Although everything in Unplugged is familiar, it still feels like a whole new book. Some snippets of conversation are repeated, but not enough to feel repetitive or to get bored. I enjoyed getting Sawyer’s POV. I loved seeing the friendship between him and Belle develop. This book was not nearly as emotional as the other books, but my eyes kept welling up at thoughts of future events. I can’t wait to get the rest of Sawyer’s POV.

I got so lost in this story. I loved getting to read about Sawyer's side of everything that went on. It gave me a whole new perspective for the entire series. It also made me love Sawyer's character even more. This has to be the best series I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

This is a follow up book to the Just an Illusion series. SO IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THEM STOP RIGHT NOW GO READ THOSE FIRST. Sawyer has decided to take his journals and make them into a book for Nate and his and Amelia's children so they will know about there dad and uncle. You can feel every emotion he was feeling with this book. I'm proud to say I didn't cry once though. Dee knocked it out of the park again with Sawyers story and how he felt about Mel from the beginning and also his love for Noah, the band and his family. This is part 1 of 2 of Sawyer' s journals. part 2 is where we get to the heavy stuff.I cant wait! I love every one of the characters in this series and I can't seem to get enough. Great job Dee. keep em coming

I've been with this series since the beginning, and with each book, I love them more and more. I dig that Dee is continuing with the "book within a book" format. It works so well, and allows the conceit of fast forwarding and rewinding the story whenever necessary.

This is Sawyer's perspective on the events that occurred in the original trilogy. I'm gonna let you guys in on a secret... Sawyer is my favorite character, so Unplugged is a special treat for me.

Sawyer is adapting his journals into book form as a gift to his OTP, Mel. I use that abbreviation because there is truly nobody else for him but her. Their romance does not play out in this story though, here it is the telling of Sawyer's willingness to make his twin happy by allowing him to love Mel.

Don't get me wrong, it's not because Mel is not the right person for Noah. I truly believe that there's not just one person out there for each of us. Here, the tragedy is that Mel's soulmates happen to be brothers. In Unplugged, it's Noah she falls for, and Sawyer (for the most part) is happy when his brother is happy.

Now, here's the frustrating part. I should've seen this coming because DEE. It's got a cliffhanger. Although for the people that read the first three books already know the main story, we don't know it from Sawyer's perspective. I'm still gritting my teeth because I WANT IT NOW.

The storytelling vibe is amazing, the insights into Sawyer's character are fascinating, and seeing the love between him and everyone else in the JaI family is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. I desperately want to see what's coming next, and I'm dreading it with the very next breath.

Dee, you always take me on a breathtaking journey, and you leave me wanting more.

I give Just an Illusion - Unplugged FIVE pop tart stealing stars!

From the beginning I have been #TeamWeston and always will be! Sawyer always showed a different facade to everyone but if with that you fell for him, prepare to fall deeper and be the only one for you. This book is not about Noah but you get a lot of his story, it was so heartbreaking reading about Noah’s and Sawyer’s relationship from Sawyer’s POV. From the moment they had their first difference we knew there was going to be a big heartbreak, they being twins makes everything stronger, even the pain they can cause to each other.

“He’s my goddamn twin! Noah is the only person who loves me, faults and all and you... we just killed that. He’s never going to forgive me!”

Sawyer finally found the girl that can put his world upside down, but good things have never come easy to Sawyer.

“Her mouth tastes like heaven, but the two of us together could easily burn a path straight to hell.”

Even when Sawyer hid behind those walls, drugs, alcohol, indifference, women, etc, he hid something even bigger, something he didn’t even know. He was ready to fall and be happy, but his big heart always put other’s happiness first.

“You deserve happiness too, Sawyer. Noah isn’t the only Weston twin who does good things for people. You do them for Noah all the time and he doesn’t even realize it.”

It’s finally time to know everything this broken man had to go through before getting the girl he has been waiting for so long.

“When I was in her arms, I felt loved. I’m well aware of how much I sound like a girl, but there’s no other way to describe it.”

Oh Dear! This story!!! I was healing all right but then reading Sawyer’s story it broke me again and slowly so slowly was healing me again toward the end.

Just An Illusion - Unplugged by D. Kelly is book four in Athens Illusion series. It is not a standalone, and should only be read after reading.

“One day you’re going to meet someone who makes you question everything you thought about yourself. I can’t wait to see it happen and watch you learn to let someone into your world.”

You know that feeling you get when it’s the end of a long day and you can finally sink into your familiar and comfy bed, snuggle into your warm blankets, and lay your head on a cloud of comfort? That’s what it was like for me when I opened the pages of this novel. I’d come home to Sawyer, Mel, Noah, and the rest of the gang. Kindle in one hand, tissues in the other, I was ready....or not.

“Just keep using your own condoms, Sawyer. I’d hate to see you get trapped by the wrong girl.” She stands, and so do I. “And who would be the right girl?” “That’s easy,” she says, kissing me on the cheek. “The one who will move heaven and earth to always give you the good smiles.”

I loved getting Sawyer’s point of view in this story. I quickly discovered that maybe I was a bigger Sawyer fan than I realized. I was not surprised by the depth of his affection for Mel. He was deep and rich in emotions in his own way. But, getting to read his personal thoughts was a direct hit on my heart. I cherished every thought, every adoration. He became my hero. His selfless love for all around him was a juxtaposition to the hard-to-love man we sometimes saw in earlier books. I’m anxiously awaiting more.

“You have to do whatever makes your heart happy. Nothing else is worth it.”

When I finished reading the whole "Just an Illusion" series, I was deeply sad that it ended but happy that I loved how it ended. I was a tad skeptic about a book from Sawyer's perspective because I didn't want more drama for him, despite he was my favorite character. After reading Unplugged, I think we all needed a book from his POV. You need to read the series first before diving into this book, otherwise you'll be spoiled about what happens in the plot.

"Just an Illusion - Unplugged" is told from Sawyer's point of view and it starts before the events of "Just an Illusion - Side A". We are brought again into the world of Bastards and Dangerous and this time we will see some of the things that we know happened in the past but we never witnessed first hand. In Uplugged our main character and core of BaD tells us all about it. We not only understand his emotions and thoughts during crucial moments of the whole Just an Illusion series, but find out new things that we probably suspected but never truly knew since the POV wasn't his in the other series.

Sawyer never disappoints, and he is the reason why I wanted to read this book despite some of the things happening are known to who has read the main series. This books shows us another side of Sawyer and his relationship with his brother Noah and the other band members. It doesn't cover the whole series but I think the author plans to write a 2nd installment, so I'm excited to see moments of Sawyer and Amelia from the present.

I finished this book a few days ago but I really needed time to get my head around what a amazing book this is, I needed to try and put words on paper in the hope that my review does it justice. This is book four and it’s Noah, Mel and Sawyers story told from Sawyers POV and even though i knew the story D.Kelly has such a way with words she make you feel like this is a completely new story to fall in love with and fall in love I did, all over again. I always saw Sawyer as the bad boy of rock and roll but this book really shows him in a different light, it shows how deep his feelings for others go and it shows that he did what was needed for Noah his twin to be happy. Unplugged is a full length novel that really is a stand-alone, it will make you smile but it will also break your heart, it’s beautifully written and it’s left me wanting to read this series all over again. If you love rock star romance with some twists and turns then this is a MUST READ !!!! I hope this review does this book justice, I didn’t want to give any of the story away and I hope that some of you reading it go out and one click this brilliant series and book.

If you have not read the previous 3 books in this series, STOP NOW! Go back and read those first! You MUST read those in order to truly understand and appreciate this story.

Now that I've scared off those that haven't read, read on to those that have.

This is the story but from Sawyer's POV. You can't even say same story because you get Sawyer's unique perspective on the events and Mel and Noah and just everything in only a way Sawyer tells it. I didn't realize that I had some questions lingering from the 3 books but after starting and reading Unplugged, I had SO many A-HA (not the band) moments.

I always wanted Sawyer and Mel to get together but it was enlightening to see his POV with Mel and Noah's relationship and the Marilyn thing and how that changed their twin dynamic.

Oh I can't wait for the next one!!! There's not a cliffhanger but there's SO much left to be told.

The Illusion series from Sawyer POV. Please don't read this book if you haven't read the series from the start.

This is everything we were waiting for. Sawyer POV about what happened in their lives and the way he felt. Truly emotional, it's hard to relive everything again, in a way you know what happened but with more insight. A journey to the past. Old wounds come back to open and although you are expecting it, there is so much more to know and amaze you!

If you haven't loved Sawyer yet, you will now!

D. Kelly has a way with words that makes you feel everything like you were the one living it!
I love this author's work with all my heart!

Having read and loved Just an Illusion Sides A, B & EP, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Unplugged. I knew it was from Sawyer’s perspective but wasn’t sure if it was running to the same timeline as the other books and just putting it in his words. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong! It’s fresh and sexy, with great development of most characters. We get to know and love Sawyer, for more than just his bad boy persona. Plus anyone who doubted why Mel and Sawyer got together, will get their resolution. It was just meant to be. I nearly read it in one sitting and would have if I’d started it on the weekend. If you love the Illusion books, don’t miss out on this one. There will be another book; Encore, to finish Sawyer’s POV up to date but it’s not a cliffhanger ending, so go ahead and read it NOW!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review and I can say without a word of a lie, I will be purchasing the fully formatted book, without a question of a doubt. I love it!

Ahh! I love Sawyer so much! This book was every #teamsawyer members dream story. A chance to relive their relationship through his POV. I liked meeting more of his inner circle this time around and learning why he acted a certain way during moments. I can't stress enough how this book brings back so many feelings and yet creates new ones! I must read for sure!

And here is another WINNER by D. Kelly !!

Just an Illusion - Unplugged is the fourth book in The Illusion Series by the outstanding and incredibly talented author D. Kelly. I read and loved the previous books and this one is no exception.
Just an Illusion - Unplugged tells the story of Noah, Mel and Sawyer from Sawyer´s POV. And let me tell you, it was very enlightening. Reading the other books I thought of Sawyer as shallow, a player and without deep feelings. But that´s not the truth. He isn´t the bad boy I thought him to be, he feels too much and too deep. He loves his family and his twin more than anything and is willing to sacrifice his own love and happiness. Reading Just an Illusion - Unplugged was an eye opener for me. Ita a heart wrenching and at the same time beautiful story, a emotional read.
Just an Illusion - Unplugged is a full length romance novel and can be read as a stand alone. For better understanding I recommend to read the books in order.
I recommend the book and The Illusion Series and give 5 stars !

....When I got the ARC, I posted using the hashtag "TheresProbablyGonnaBeTears" (among others)... and Dee said "Maybe no tears this time".

She was wrong.

Maybe it's just me, though.. because I was ALWAYS #TeamSawyer.. so, seeing so much of what Sawyer thought/felt "behind the scenes" was just heartbreaking... and reading about Noah's plans for the future and talk about "a life worth living" was even worse.

***First, it should be noted that as this review is regarding the fourth book in a series it may contain spoilers. I have tried extremely hard not to post any BUT you should read the books in order:

Just an Illusion - Side A
Just an Illusion - The B Side
Just an Illusion - EP
Just an Illusion - Unplugged

Having recently finished the first three books in the Just an Illusion series, I knew to expect certain things before I even picked up this story. What I didn't expect was to read a story that was so much more intense then I ever anticipated. Just an Illusion - Unplugged Is Sawyer's story. Readers go back in time before Amelia Greyson comes on board with Bastard and Dangerous (B.A.D.) to get a first hand accounting of the past as Sawyer experienced it. Trust is put to the ultimate test more than once between fraternal twins, Sawyer and Noah. Yet the experiences the brothers share with Mel are infinity more detrimental to the brothers, and their entire family. Take a walk down memory lane with Sawyer as he gives his accounting from the beginning. How much pain does the budding relationship with Mel cause? Will Sawyer and Noah's bond withstand the near constant beating it takes? Read the series to find out.

Just an Illusion - Unplugged adds so much context and character development to the entire series. I know that in reading the first books I was totally #teamSawyer. Now, having read Sawyer's narrative on the events from the previous stories I'm even more devastated by the love triangle that was Noah, Sawyer and Mel. I can't deny that I fell in love with Noah. How could you not?! Yet, it never changed the heartbreak I experienced for Sawyer as he let happiness slip through his fingers again and again. Mel's accounting in the Just an Illusion series (Side A, The B Side and EP) gave readers small glimpses of Sawyers intensity. In reading Unpluggedreaders will live in the wreckage of the most powerful attraction I have ever read about as Sawyer choose his brother's wellbeing over his own, again and again!

D. Kelly shed so much light on the entire series by writing Sawyer's narrative that I feel like she raised the perfection bar. You might ask how it's possible to raise said bar?! Seriously, you just need to read this series and you'll understand that in writing Sawyer's narrative just how much Sawyer's actions cost him. As with the previous books in this series, you will feel a plethora of emotions and some of them even more keenly then with the previous books. There will be a book five out in the late summer or early fall. (Yes, I played blue ribbon stalker and hunted down D. Kelly to ask about this!!!) Unplugged doesn't leave readers with a cliffhanger ending, but since we've read the previous books, it's also apparent that the story isn't over where we leave off. My favorite part of Unplugged is the development of Belle and Sawyer's relationship...I honestly never saw that coming.

In the meantime, quit reading reviews and start reading the books...You won't be sorry!!
