Thank you to the author, publishers Kogan Page and NetGalley UK for access to this as an advance reader’s ebook. This is an honest and voluntary review.
The ‘Myths of’ series are perfect light reads which act as a great introduction to an area of work or as a useful check in for someone experienced. Myths of Management fits well into that pattern.
The book is written as a series of short chapters each examining a well cited myth about management, from the first 100 days are make or break to long hours will lead to success. The format makes it easy to dip in and out of this book which means it stands head and shoulders above most of the dense management tomes.
Each myth is tackled with a sense of humour, which creeps into smug territory in a few chapter. But, there’s also a solid grounding of referencing and recommendations which can be followed up for anyone looking for more depth.
It would make an excellent gift for someone entering their first management role.
