Five yen for your wish to come true? Revisit the Far Shore in new edition of the beloved supernatural action series that collects all the stray volumes in 600-page 3-in-1 omnibuses , all in a larger size than the regular version!
Includes Vol. 1-3 of Stray God .
Yato is a homeless god. He doesn't even have a shrine, not to mention worshippers! So to achieve his ambitious goals, he's set up a service to help those in need (for a small fee), hoping he'll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish shrine of his dreams. Of course, he can't afford to be picky, so Yato accepts all kinds of jobs, from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies at school.
I loved the exploration of Japanese mythology and gods in this! But the age of the human main character makes everything a bit iffy for me, and sometimes I found the humor got in the way of the story. Adachitoka's art is really beautiful, though, and even by chapters 10 an 11 I could tell their storytelling was getting more confident!
I'm not sure if I'll be continuing this series or not, but I can definitely understand the love for this story.
I didn't realize how much I missed this story and these characters! 😭 I couldn't help but shed some tears while reading, not because it was sad or anything, but because of the wave of nostalgia it brought 🥹
⇢ What to expect: ∘ Supernatural ∘ Intriguing Wordlbuilding & History ∘ Great art style ∘ Gods & Goddesses ∘ Spirits & evil entities ∘ Found Family ∘ Strangers to Friends
After learning that Noragami is nearing its conclusion, I realized that I couldn't recall much about the story or where I left off when I read the first 16 volumes 3 years ago, so I decided to do a complete reread.
Noragami is one of my favorite anime series and I highly recommend giving it a go! I guarantee you'll have a great time and fall in love with these characters! Plus, it's also incredibly funny and entertaining 🤭.
I love this series so much. Not only is it an interesting premise but it's also well executed with loveable characters and a good mix of goofy and serious moments. I love being able to experience the world of another culture's religion in such a rich and immersive way. I'm so excited to finally read this series and delve further into the world than what the show got to.
I saw the anime for this series ages ago, and sadly there is no season 3 even all these years later. After finding out that the manga is going to be ending soon, I decided to finally get back into reading it.
Noragami is such a fun universe with gods, monsters and ayakashi (spirits). It has a good blend of humor, seriousness, and a strong cast of characters. The worldbuilding in this is also great, and feels appropriately delivered in pacing. The omnibus is a super nice addition, and the bigger pages do justice to the detailed illustrations. As I never read the manga, it was interesting to see what got adapted and changed from the manga to the anime and vice versa.
There are some really nice extras throughout, and in particular, the detailed translation notes in the back of the omnibus were my favorite. I'm always really interested in seeing the explanations that don't translate over 100% or are something more relating to culture.
Highly recommend Noragami and this edition if you like supernatural anime/manga. I'll definitely be getting the next omnibus editions when I'm able. The pricing for 3 volumes in 1 is a great deal.
Thanks to my library for finally getting at least some of this manga, and to Hoopla for having more volumes! I've tried to follow this story since the year the translation was published but I just didn't have the funds to buy every volume, and then it kind of drifted out of my mind, although I always wanted to know how the story continued. Apparently it's ending this year, so it's a lucky time to return to it!
Anyway, I love this story, and I love Hiyori especially. It's not very often that the Normal Girl Protagonist is even more charming than the Special Male Protagonist, but Hiyori is just so good! Her obsession with wrestling is funny and cute, and she's proactive in her own story, which is nice. I've always kind of hoped that she becomes a god of some kind herself, so it'll be fun to see where the plot takes her after Yukine's ablution (where this volume ends and, ironically, where I always drifted away from the anime all 2 or 3 times I tried watching it).
i really enjoyed this story and the theme around where negative emotions can come from and/or build off of. i like the version of gods portrayed in this manga. i think there are many unique elements to the world-building within the story. i would enjoy it more if the dialogue was a bit more smooth but it’s still very enjoyable and fairly easy to follow. i’ll likely be continuing this series in the future.
I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I'm head over heels in love with this omnibus. There are a few series I have been waiting anxiously to drop omni's and this was one of them. :) It's incredibly detailed art and stuffed with an amazing storyline that leaves you desiring more. Can't wait till the 2nd omnibus drops!
I’m shocked at how quickly I flew through this! This is the first time I’m reading this series and it really does live up to the hype, the characters are compelling, the plot is good, the world-building is super solid. I’m impressed! I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this, I might order the next one right away!
When I first saw a clip of the anime, I thought it was interesting, a god in human form. After reading it, it’s interesting to sum it up. It can be a bit boring or drawn out in my opinion, but can still have you wanting to read the next chapter. The art style and character designs are interesting IMO. Overall, not bad but not my thing at times. Probably why it took me so long to finish. Still, gonna check out omnibus 2.
So I started reading the manga because I loved the anime and, as most of us likely know, the anime stopped at a certain point and doesn't seem to be getting any new seasons - for whatever reason. The manga was great! Loved the art style, loved the story line. I can't wait to read more of it.
Noragami is a solid story but it's the second time I'm reading it and I've seen the anime as well so I'm giving it a 4/5. It is a good manga but not my all time favorite
Never knew how different it is from the show. But I love it so much and I adore how you can tell the art gets better later on. Still stunning here though. And I love this edition, if I didn't have the series already these would be the way to go♡
