When two worlds collide, a teenage girl finds herself alone and fighting for her life in a land that freely delivers pain and anguish. Or death.
Shane wasn’t born to this world. She was an average high school student – band, sports, friends. Thrust into a fantastic new world, she is tortured and forced to work in the mines of Verscar. There’s no way out.
She finds an ally in a fellow slave and together, they plot. Left with no other option, she makes the only decision she can, a choice she must learn to live with.
I can’t believe this book was written by a teenager during her Covid break.
I loved the story the character build up the secrets the way that they interact with each other and the visions that were painted in my head.
I can’t believe a kid can write a book with such detail and such pain in the beginning half of the book which is very hard to read and very hard to digest but after you get through that it is a really wonderful and magical tale which you could feel like perhaps J.R.R. Tolkien wrote himself.
If this is her first book she will only continue to get better and better I cannot wait to read the second book and I’m ready for Hollywood to make it into a movie it would be incredibly well received.
A great and extremely entertaining read - at least if you can manage with some cruelty and torture. Especially in the first third of the book. But if you're able to read after that (for the story he tells unfortunately necessary) stumbleblock you get one of the best coming-of-age-fantasy-stories I've ever known. Which is especially remarkable if you know that the author is an high-school-student (and will be for some time to come)
Excellent story about a young woman facing adversity
This book is better than most I have read this year. When you learn it was written by a junior in high school it’s hard to believe. A well developed world and characters. Good plot and action. This author is destined for great things.
a good first book once you get past the first few chapters the writing style and actions picks up. The world that it is set in is very grim with no moral code or if there is one it is hiding behind a guards gun going tisk tisk as someone with morals get killed. Towards the end of the book the author adds some more lore into the world with just enough to make you want to read the next one.
I really enjoyed this book. It has good world building that you learn along with the main character, but the lore never feels overwhelming or cliche. Although it is a story about a high schooler becoming an assassin, the MC seems to have realistic limitations that don’t detract from the story. Overall I like the book and will be continuing the series.
A slightly different premise as our heroine and her best buddy are transported to a totally different reality. How she copes with her new reality makes for a good tale
Such a great book and not would you would expect at all coming from a teen author! The book is great and my 17 year old and 14 yr old boys loved it too!
