______

“I have loved taking the journey and discovering the history of the Island without leaving my home! The characters are easy to connect and fall in love with.” -Diana Tate
“If you love the San Juans these books by D.W. Ulsterman make you part of the story.” -Ruth G. Raymond
Adele’s adventures solidly move from reality to fantasy in this book.
I greatly enjoy this series, but I grow weary of Adele’s horrible attitude and treatment of her friends. TBH…. It’s exhausting to constantly read about how bratty she is.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
I hope that this book (and the last couple of books) were supposed to be some sort of setup for a major character change for Adele. I really hope readers were supposed to take notice of her treatment of friends and general distasteful attitude, so that they notice when it becomes better.
My general premonition is that Bloodbone is supposed to be a foil to Adele, and we will see a character development like Bloodbone’s (narrated at the end of The Truthing street) in the next book. Or at least I hope so. Four stars because the series is great overall.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I compell the reader to read the books in order and experience the development and growth of the character’s.
I enjoyed the mystery part of the books and the twisted plots.
I’m a little apprehensive about this new path of the “Book of Bloodbone” and its mystical undertones.
BUT… I’ve become so entranced by the authors books that I have come to trust him. I feel like I know Adele, Tilda, Lucas, Roland and now Fin. Being Irish I’m drawn to Fin and his story.
Hoping this set of stories is setting up the “Bowman Boys”. Looking forward to it.
I would like to thank D W Ulsterman for sharing his storytelling gift with us.
I have read all the books in this series. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next book. These books are mesmerizing. You become part of the story, and the characters. You will not be disappointed if you read the books in order. Being born in the Pacific northwest I have had The opportunity to visit these islands. I look forward to another journey there.
Best mystery series….and set in the San Juan Islands!
Every now and then a book really stand out. The story is interesting, compelling to finish, and characters become so real they feel like friends. There are useful tidbits about life, dealing with adversity, importance of loyalty and friendship sprinkled in.
This series starting with The Writer, has all that, and it has been set in the very special place, the San Juan Islands. After reading the first book in the series, I read the next, and the next, and the next until finishing each book that is available written by Ulsterman. This series has become one of my favorites, I’m spreading the word to other readers, San Juan Islanders, friends and cousins from the midwest and everyone I talk to about books. If you like a well told story, read one, then read them all!
I'm on a role now. On to The Book of Bloodbone. So far this series has not dissapointed. My only complaint is the author can't seem to make up his mind about Adele and Roland's relationship. He constantly puts walls up between them that don't make sense. It's like he wants her to be free to choose who she sleeps with. If that's the case, then do it, if she is to be with Roland then get on with it. It kind of takes away from the story lines.
With each release in this series the plot thickens and goes places I never would have imagined. It’s a great saga sewing together the present and the very far-away past imbued with rich folklore and symbolism. The whole story is extremely enthralling; yet the excitement is not overwhelming or unrealistic. It burns at a slow pace. Looking forward to number nine!
I have read all the books in of that tie to the series and am looming forward to as many as Mr. Ulsterman can write. The continued development of the characters is wonderful and still offers some surprise. This world be a great series for anyone who already enjoys mystery or for those wanting to try it for the first time. Very enjoyable.
I’ve lived in Anacortes for almost 30 years. Taking the San Juan ferry to every island available and those not have gone by boat. Ulsterman has truly captured the essence of the island and the spirits they hold. I just finished book 8 and moving onto book 9 excited to see there will be a 10th and 11th. You’ll want to read each and everyone.
There is more here than I can express… this series is a journey and and adventure. Well written and well told. The tapestry of time and the colorful characters are woven with artful care. Ohhhhh I need the next book!
New chaacters aré introduced and killed off. The age of the story is revealed. The relationshios remain inconclusive. Romances do not progress. It looks like there Is another story on the way. The hard friven leaad character Is too hard and getting boring
Really enjoyed the story. The sense of belonging that all of the characters bring to the islands brings a spiritual allure of wanting to be a part of. The struggle to keep it makes the story exciting and suspenseful.
Really enjoying this series. The characters match the setting, (I've been to this area). However, SPOILER, Adele needs to pick one guy and stay with him. She's far too picky. So here we go, searching for Bloodbone.
Another great installment in the San Juan Islands series. It appears Adele is becoming more and more important to the dynamics of the island and it is taking precedence in her life. The group is becoming closer and further apart at the same time if that makes any sense. I am anxiously awaiting the next installment and I am really hoping one part of the story doesn’t go the way I have a feeling it is going….
