Series books. This is why they make me angry. All of this stuff about Charlie and Kay. I don’t care about Charlie and Kat. Give them their own book and get on with Dax and Carson. So freaking annoying! And not a single down and dirty sexytime. I have pre-ordered the next book, but if there’s another after it I am so not buying it. Grrrrr. I hate series books.
This book was much better than book one. Although still predictable based on EL Todd’s books, it was entertaining and real. She makes you fall in love with the characters through real emotion. That’s why I love her books.
We had an introduction to this series that was fairly surface level and in this second installment, it’s great to see that the bar is just a bit low, that way we can excel. We know that there was something great developing between Dax and Carson, but we also saw that trust was paramount to everything and there was a significant loss in that when Carson learned Dax’s true identity.
The chance for them to be happy is almost non-existent even though it’s clear that there’s still intense chemistry. She walks away and wants nothing to do with him and he has no choice but to fight. He realizes quickly though that it’s a losing battle and that there’s no convincing Carson to think about his lie as being something that wasn’t consequential.
Dax slips back into his playboy ways, even though Carson is the only girl that he wants. Carson surprisingly doesn’t go back to her Boy Toy ways but we don’t really know if it’s because she’s in denial about how she feels about Dax or if she’s just put off men entirely.
Knowing that their friendship groups are now intermingled, these two call a truce of sorts. They agree to be friends, and what we see from here takes this book to a deeper level. We watch a true friendship develop – we see Dax and Carson open up to each other in a more fulfilling way and grow to be true friends. It gives Dax hope, and when he makes his move again, he is shot down. Carson is firm in her answer of ‘NO’.
Enter Evan, Carson’s ex-husband, and his reappearance changes everything. Her heart is broken all over again once she realizes that he’s remarried so quickly, and when he tries to approach her, she tries to act brave and powerful, but is scared beyond means, because she doesn’t want to have all those emotions brought up again on how she failed in her marriage. Luckily for her, Dax is there and takes matters into his own hands, and from there we see the trajectory of the story change. The future is still unknown, but there’s a new path to go down.
There are a few side stories here as well. We watch Charlie navigate his feelings for Denise (Carson’s sister) while trying to be caring about Kat (his ex)’s feelings. It’s a mess and while everyone’s trying to be sensitive, there’s really only so much a person can take. We also watch the evolution of Dax’s sister Renee’s relationship with her boyfriend William, and see how he’s welcomed into the family (or not) and what that means for the future. It’s a sweet next piece to the story and i’m intrigued to see where book three takes us since the title is a bit daunting.
I am struggling with why there are a third and maybe even more books to come in this series. A cliffhanger for the other characters but perfection for Carson and Dax. Why E.L Todd are we playing with these people?
I have been lucky enough to read some solid novels these past weeks. For that, I am grateful. The Man I Thought I Loved continues that streak. Carson is a strong and stubborn woman. I absolutely love her moments of confidence and how secure she is with herself and her life, despite her hurt and trauma.
Seeing her and Dax interact as friends, felt so real and right. Even if I miss the sex.
Despite getting more of his POV from the beginning, I still haven't formed a connection with Dax. It could be that I like my billionaires dark, dangerous and a little nefarious. Dax is a sweetheart. The type that would be the stay-at-home dad so you can pursue your dreams.
Once we got past the longing and awkward moments between Dax and Carson, the real stinger of this book was Charlie, Denise and Kat. Watching that secondary drama play out added heat, drama and the perfect segue way that carried the friendship Dax and Carson developed. Which is why I think we really could just move on from them at this point.
However, if we were to do that, then this novel would just be a remake of Love and Basketball. There is still so much to work through but I am secretly hoping Charlie's love triangle takes the lead again because Carson takes the patience of all saints and now I just don't want anyone to hurt Dax.
Safe to say E.L Todd has me on an emotional roller coaster ride with this one. Can't wait for book three.
Wow! Carson and Dax will steal your heart. Their relationship deals with real life situations. They have to decide how they are going to deal with the fallout and can it be fixed? Can they find a HEA? The second story within this story for me were the friends. They are all so close and love each other. Does this make it easier or harder when it comes to intimate relationships? Charlie, Kat and Denise. All have strong feelings and desires. The question is can they look past the hurt, desires and feelings to find their true soulmate? Is being friends suppose to trump a chance at true love? Isn't love suppose to be the most importantl? Can they move forward and find true love and stay friends? Check this book out and find out. This book is fantastic! I just love Dax! He is my favorite of all characters. I am voluntarily leaving my review after reading an advance reader copy of the book from the author. I can not wait to read the next book in this fantastic series.
OMG! This is so so good.. After the cliffhanger ending in book 1, I wasn't sure what would happen with Dax and Carson. My heart broke for Carson when she found out Dax had been lying to her but at the same time my head understood why Dax felt he had to lie. Dax isn't a bad guy, he's actually one of the good ones but him lying is hard for Carson to get past.
I could feel the pain and hurt radiating from both Carson and Dax while reading. Also the anger that Carson was feeling after being betrayed again. But the feelings they had for each other never slipped, even though they tried to make those feelings go away and just be friends. These two are blatantly meant to be together. After all, the heart wants what it wants.
Ooh I was routing for these two to fix things and make their relationship work so much, I love them together. I'm excited for the next part of this story. But nervous with where E.L. Todd will take it.
This book is a continuation from the first book! I absolutely loved this book! Carson is hilarious! I can’t count how many times I literally laughed out loud at the things she would say! Dax is amazing! He knows he screwed up with Carson and agrees to being her friend. After awhile you can tel their connection is growing and you feel like something is going to happen. But Carson puts the breaks in because her divorce totally screwed her up. While out with friends her ex starts to come talk to her so Dax being the gentlemen he is takes care of the situation. Like any normal couple they work really hard at their problems and start to rectify them. I’m really curious to see how the Dennis and Charlie scenario plays out! I can’t wait to read the next book! I was so excited to see another book in the lineup!!
Book 2 of course jumps right in where book 1 left off... Carson and Dax are no longer together. But she means more to him than he thought and while lying isn't okay, was it really that big of a lie? Carson isn't so sure she can just forgive.
This story is so moving and I really do love every character throughout this story. Carson, her friends, and Dax and his sister and her boyfriend. I love that we get to see all sorts of details about both of their lifes, and really get to know them. And them being friends meant they got to learn more and love more about the other. It ended in such a great place also. Cant wait for the next book.
This is the continuing story of Dax & Carson. It's so very hard for Carson to open up her heart again. The struggle for trust is real. It's such a struggle for her. Dax has already made up his mind to open his heart again. Patience is a virtue. Oh how I enjoyed this second part of their story. It's realistic to the core. There is a secondary story of Carson's roommate, who is a man, and his love interest. I love that there are more characters involved in this book. This book is full of passion and magnetism. E.L. Todd does not disappoint. I can't wait for the third book in this series.

Oh my goodness, I honestly didn’t think I would be so caught up with Dax Frawley and his feelings for Carson. After the first book, it left with Carson not being able to forgive Dax for lying. Dax tried everything to be supportive of Carson even retiring to be her friend but could he won her over? I was so glued to this story, I couldn’t put it down and had to just keep reading. Wanting to know what is going to happen between the two of them. I’m desperate for the next instalment. Can it get any better? Brilliant read as usual by E.L. Todd.

OMG I really didn't think that I would be so invested in the love saga of Dax Frawley and how strongly his feelings are for Carson. But know matter how much I enjoyed this book I can't help but be a little annoyed with all the Charlie and Kat situation. Too much time was wasted on them. I wanted this to be more about Dax and Carson. Beside that this was enjoyable and entertaining read. As always my review are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Love this series!!! The closeness of the friendships. Dax and Carson talk and she tells him they can just be friends, so as friends they get to know each other and become closer, Dax is falling more in love with her. Charlie and Denise admit they have feelings for each other, Carson talks to Kat to get her reaction to it, she says she was still hoping her and Charlie would get back together. Charlie is tired of putting his feelings aside and wants to be happy. Read this you will not be disappointed!!!
It's entertaining enough to keep me reading but I'm not exactly buying in. Yes I can feel her outrage and Dax really didn't try that hard to make his lie believable or acceptable, especially when he expected more from her. But could have easily been laid out in under 20k words. Everything else is fluff and kind of superficial. Again, the dialog doesn't mesh for me. It's like someone is pretending to be American. But sometimes I like low level plot because I'm a readaholic and I pick a story that I can put down when I need to.
You are killing me E.L. Todd!!! I can not get enough of this group of friends. I can't put in to words how utterly beautiful this series is. Can one lie be that bad? Is it forgivable? I love am the characters and the easy banter between friends. I need the next book now. I'm going to be in so much trouble. I'm only going on a few hours of sleep before I have to get ready for work. This him is that good!
Every single page I get sucked further in...sort of dreading something else will go wrong! I love how the story has you so invested in this group of friends and all their drama. Dax and Carson are amazing characters but then you have their friends that pull at my heartstrings too! Lots of healing in this story but more broken people than just Dax and Carson. I really can’t wait for more of this story!
This second book passed by so much faster than the first. But I'm definitely invested in these characters now.
I think Charlie's pursuit of Denise is long overdue. I was bit unsure of some moments between Dad and Carson in the beginning but its been good to see them take their time and make it real. Dad sleeping with other women while on the break disappointed me but its also realistic😢
Wow, I’ve read both books in this series in a matter of hours because they are too good to put down. Hot men who wear their hearts on their sleeves, feisty women who know what they want and don’t take crap, drama, and fun banter. What more could you need? Really excited to see where the next book takes us.
What an uplifting story, true love can and will win out. Dax has been nothing but patient with Carson even though it was hard but it all worked out in the end, so far that is. Charlie and Denise need to get together and Kat really needs to get over herself and grow up, poor Carson has enough baggage of her own without dealing with other people’s.
There not a lot of anguish and the story is a little cookie cutter but I'm not bored and it doesn't drone on
I feel like Dax tried too hard to win Carson back I couldn't believe they way she treated him the day after his birthday when he ask her to take him back . this is a good storyline fast paced and you just hope everyone wins in the end.
Does true love always prevail? Can we help it on its way to completion, or can we stop love ?
I really liked this book better than the first because the human emotions are clearly defined...love, disappointment, forgiveness & jealousy. What will lovers do to conquer the hurt that was left from a former betrayal, & is what they choose the right decision?
If you love drama and haven’t read any of E. L. Todd’s books then you won’t be disappointed.
This series is perfect for the drama, the characters, story and heat. Finally getting somewhere, will book 3 be the hea or will more episodes, cross fires and characters with bad intentions get in the way.
I absolutely adore these two, Dax and Carson. Dax is the perfect person, to everyone, especially Carson. His patience with her is so commendable. I like the secondary story happening between Charlie and Denise, too. This is a great series and I can’t wait to see how everyone ends up.
Dax and Carson, what a couple! Dax made a mistake, Carson called him on it and they broke up. Now they must try and find each other again. This book has friendship leading into a relationship that leads into love and steamy encounters. A page turner for sure!!
I enjoyed this 2nd book in the series. Real life situations lets the reader into a familiar territory. I enjoyed reading how Dax did not give up. He followed his heart and went after what he wanted. This is a great series to read for the romantic at heart ❤️.
