Jo Dawson grew up on a dairy farm in Wellsford, a small town in the North Island of New Zealand. She spent fifteen years as a teacher in New Zealand and abroad, before becoming a stay-at-home mum and completing her graduate degree in Theology.
She has lived in Australia and the USA for a time, and these experiences have added to her love of people and history. Blessed with a vivid imagination and the love of classical literature and historical fiction; Jo virtually grew up bosom friends with Anne Shirley, romping with Jo March and her sisters, sailing a raft down the Mississippi with Huckleberry Finn or living in the ‘little house’ with Laura Ingalls.
Born and raised in a strong Christian family, Jo’s faith is at the centre of who she is, with a lifetime of being involved in Churches and Christian Camps. These two loves, literature and the Lord, have inevitably converged into writing compelling stories of strong Christian women, courageously facing the hardships of life on the frontier. It is her hope that women of all ages would find encouragement from her heroines’ experiences that, while fiction, so often mirror even our modern lives.
Jo currently resides in the small North Island town of Waipu in New Zealand, where she lives with her husband, son, father-in-law and her cat.

This is the third book in the Journey of the Heart series and you get to see Abigail’s children growing up. It’s hard watching the struggles and decisions loved ones make. I wanted to step in and help Ruby, Abigail’s oldest, see what was happening before she made decisions she would regret. Fortunately, for her, she has a wise father who loves her and helps her see what love really is and is not.

I enjoyed getting to know more of Abigail and Andrew’s extended family. From their interactions, I have a better understanding of who both of them are, especially Andrew. His love for the Lord and his and Abigail’s family were evident by the choices he made. Abigail is truly blessed to have a husband like him.

It was encouraging to see the wisdom that Tommy has when given an opportunity to run an estate. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with he plans he has in mind. I love the spunky younger daughters and their willingness to stand up for each other. You certainly would want their help if you ever ran into trouble!

Since this is a part of a series, I would read the other two books before reading this one to be able to better understand this story. If you enjoy books about frontier life or those written by Janette Oke, you will love reading this. I was given a complimentary copy of the book. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
