Many Fragile Things

Rate this book
Many Fragile Things is a contemporary poetry collection that weaves together real-life, every day experiences, using artistic expression as an icebreaker to evoke thought and spark conversations around sensitive topics.

The anthology highlights some of the many fragile things we have to juggle and how to maintain balance, leaning heavily on matters; ~Love; what it takes to be able to love another person and allow another person love you.

~Faith; why we believe in the things we do and how that translates to who we are and how we interact with the rest of the world.

~Healing and self discovery as a journey. Keep an open mind, ask the hard questions and allow yourself

appreciate what you will discover.

It's the smooth use of words in a manner which allows everyone to relate and be familiar in it. Beautifully written 💯

In "Many Fragile Things," Victoria Ngunjiri brings us on a journey of revelation. It is not of discovery, because we have been in these places before, in love and hope, in loss and despair, and in redemption. In each, her words are a light yet sure filament which connects all three essential phases of our being. The intensity of the longing and desire for love in the chapter called “Happy Ever Afters (and other popular folklore)” belies the cynicism of the title – the narrator believes and feels and experiences the happy ever after, even if fleetingly. The poems in this chapter, in fact, are more of desire than arrival.

The second and eponymous chapter speaks of loss and fragility of heart and spirit, but with a tone that carries more resignation than sadness. In many cases, the narrator seems to have seen things coming, like “what happens to boys that pretend to be men” or “when words are / manipulated and misused.”

I enjoyed all three chapters and will read them again. The third chapter offers a kind of redemption in self-awareness and self-knowledge and an abiding feeling that things happen for reasons that are not malicious, only sometimes misunderstood.

A compelling and beautiful collection!

Best line: you learn to love fully dressed and ready for war...

I would read and reread because of how at home I feel on every page.
