I've Become an Omega Today

Rate this book
One wish. Ever since they were kids, a single desire saturated every corner of Kanade’s life. I want to be with Munechika. Despite that, his dream was only a dream-any hope Kanade had of becoming Munechika’s was shattered the moment he found out he was a beta. After all, an alpha like Munechika needs an omega… But today, everything has changed.

2.5 stars, I guess

This story was just okay. Its about two childhood friends (one is an alpha and the other is an omega) who are in love with each other but never outright tells the other. As a result, a lot of unnecessary drama ensues until one of them finally breaks down and admits his feelings... after which the other one does as well. Hugs, kisses, moments of I-can't-believe-this. Cue the happy ending.

In other words, this is one of those stories that never would have actually been a story had the two MCs just communicated in the beginning. It is my least favorite type of story so even though I appreciated reading a BL set in the omegaverse I really can't get behind this one. Maybe if there was more going on, something deeper than or in addition to the miscommunication it would have been better but as it is, no.

This is my first Omega verse BL! I really enjoyed it! We're following two college students, Kanade and Munechika. Kanade is a beta, and his best friend Munechika is an alpha. In this world, omega's give off a pheromone that attracts alpha's when they go into heat. Kanade suddenly goes into heat and luckily his best friend is there to relieve his stress. The question on Kanade's mind is "Does he love me?"
This was a really sweet story. It has the miscommunication trope, and it helped make these characters more dynamic and real. Sometimes you don't use your words when you should, and Munechika is one of these people. I think a lot of people have trouble expressing their love in words, so it was interesting to see that explored here. This story has a realistic cute couple to fall in love with! I'd recommend it!

Okay okay. Curiosity killed the cat, I can admit that. I was interested to see how a fanfiction trope translated into a more mainstream form of entertainment. As someone pretty well versed in this trope(? Universe?) I was less than impressed and would not recommend it.

Oh, this one was good. What if you are hot for the alpha best childhood friend.. but you are a beta... until you are not. And he also likes you but he doesn't know how to let it know. And what happens when he has to help with the heat? I really was rooting for these two idiots. Yes, idiots. I mean a lot of things could have been solved if they just had a better talk. That Chika told Kanade that he really liked him from way back just like how Kanade liked Chika from way back. I can partially forgive Kanade given how in pain he was and how confusing it all was and how it was all new and fresh, but still, TALK PEOPLE. I am happy with how things ended though. And the art was pretty + the sex scenes well done.
Oh, and I love how the doctor + that other guy were just rooting for our main couple!

I was super excited to see a manga set in an omegaverse, and I did enjoy it and the art, but as others have said, without all the miscommunication, this would never have been 100+ pages long. It could've all been resolved in like chapter 2, if they simply talked honestly with each other. So lots of unnecessary drama. Still, I liked it, and I really hope we get the second volume with the doctor and the other omega soon.

Okay, listen, BEFORE YOU ROAST ME! I have seen this title at the bookstore too many times and I was curious. Honestly though, I’m a bit disappointed in terms of the plot as it felt very rushed and basic. Omega verse us a trope that could be explored in very interesting ways (I’m thinking of some specific fanfics that explore omegaverse “heteronormativity” and create fascinating relationships). This felt too…simple? Though I’m giving it a three star because I had a fun time reading.

I enjoyed the manga. At the beginning there were misunderstandings, but that is because neither really spoke about their feelings towards one another. Also the whole system itself could be complicated, but I’m glad it worked out for them. I do hope that Sensi gets his partner as well. It will be interesting to see their transition from best friends to lovers now and the issues they may encounter. Also, I do believe once you are marked you are a mate, not sure if the word “dating” would be appropriate? But other than that it was a nice read! Thank you for this manga!! 🥰🥰🥰

Alles wirkte ungelenk.
Ich war leider eher enttäuscht.

Charaktere 3,6/5
Spannung/Unterhaltung 3,0/5

I bought this kinda on a whim even though omegaverse isn’t one of my most favorite tropes… but there’s a limited amount of m/m manga content that isn’t fan translated or only in Japanese and comixology has been offering more of it lately so I figured I would give it a try.

Unfortunately, this really doesn’t do a whole lot that makes it terribly compelling. The basic premise of a guy who was a “late-blooming omega” is interesting but it’s just a plot device so the two characters who are already in love (but neither realizes the other is) can get together.

That would be fine if the sex was hot but it takes up a lot of space, page wise, but yet feels like an afterthought… especially after reading Lala’s marriage or whatever that was called the other day, this manga’s sex was just…. Honestly, I almost think the author would have been better writing something else entirely.

Like, either go full sex or focus more on the other elements of the story (like the potential medical issues of being a late blooming omega). I thought maybe that was going to be part of it. It reminded me of another manga I read that was only on kindle that had some really interesting medical elements to the whole ABO universe, and so maybe that’s another reason this one felt so uninspired.

The main characters were cute but really I can’t recommend this unless you’re just super crazy for omegaverse and don’t care about these issues.

the amount of frustration i have after reading ALL THE MISUNDERSTANDINGS is off the charts, i think i might cry. it's been a while since i last read something this painful, which is sad because i really liked almost everything else but the misunderstandings pretty much made up the plot of the story. here we have a beta turned omega who ends up with very unstable hormones because of this very late change, and his almost expressionless alpha childhood friend turned mate potential. not exactly smut because there is plot but bordering

i guess the thing that i really liked is how things progressed naturally. instead of making it an existential crisis over maybe suddenly liking your childhood friend after he turns into an omega, the two just naturally fall into this mates pattern, courtesy of all the years they've been together prior to The Event but also because they were unofficially dating since before. i take no other explanation. and it could have been so cute if they'd just kept at it!! but the author wanted angst and threw in some misunderstandings. rated a 4 but maybe it's closer to a 3.5

on another note, i am very curious as to how the story would go if he'd stayed a beta!

In this manga, we have a protagonist who grew up as a Beta - better known as just a regular human in the omegaverse. His best friend since childhood and crush, however, is an alpha. One day, years after they've already been categorized, the protagonist goes into heat and finds out that he's a rare misdiagnosed male omega. His best friend jumps in to help and their mothers suggest the two become mates since they're already inseparable. Of course, the protagonist doesn't know that his feelings are reciprocated so most of the struggle throughout their story is just them constantly misunderstanding each other because they will not discuss FEELINGS. Even in mlm stories, boys will be boys.

Of all the omegaverse manga series I've come across, no shame here, I'm so glad this is one of the few that got an official English release. The story is cute and while there is some explicit content, it's not nearly to the degree of a lot of other omegaverse and yaoi series in circulation. It's definitely a favorite on my Kindle for sure. I hope that this release could open doors for other good mlm omegaverse series to get official translations.

You ever want to put two people in a locked room for an hour so they can finally stop beating around the bush about their feelings? That’s how I felt reading this. Kanade and Munechika obviously like each other despite the differences in their “true nature” but neither makes a move until he turns from a beat into an omega. If they had just communicated from the get go, it would’ve been a smooth transition.

Miscommunication trope aside, I was intrigued to read about a late blooming omega and the bodily ailments that arise due to this. I keep getting snippets of this trope in omega verse stories but there doesn’t seem to be a “one size fits all” answer for why this happens and why their heats end up so much more intense. It’s a stretch but it makes me thing about how women’s health isn’t explored and studied enough. Give us all relief from our pains!

Thanks Edelweiss and the publisher for the DRC~ I am so on top of all of my manga these days, I’m amazed.

This was a very cute childhood friends to lovers story! I liked both the alpha and omega characters and I could see why they liked each other as well. I’ve read some ABO books before, but this is the first ABO manga I’ve tried! Will definitely be looking for more!

What I liked: the romance, the friendship, and how they became physically intimate first and then emotionally intimate later!

What I thought could be better: my biggest qualm with the story was that it was pretty low stakes. There wasn’t much external conflict and a lot of it came from verbal misunderstandings.

Overall, I did enjoy it and I’m glad I bought it.

Omegaverse
Mutual Pinning
Omega x Alpha
Miscommunication
Childhood Best Friends to Lovers

I had no idea what to expect with this but it was surprisingly good. The classic trope of an omega being wrongly tested as a beta when they were young only to discover mid heat they were a late presenting omega. And yes, of course their childhood alpha friend helps them through it.

It was ridiculous and cliché but it was really cute. The art style was really lovely. The miscommunication trope is strong in this one but trust the process. It ends on a good note.

Miscommunication trope. "I thought I told you I loved you?" 😐 We are not mind readers here. Both mains are dense as bricks and don't communicate. Normally I do not mind this. But the whole story revolves around them misunderstanding and being sad about it. If we got more pining backstory, or more nuanced feelings about the present situation I could have liked it. Or just a wonderful domestic bliss chapter. We get an extra that is kinda blissy, but not enough to ease my frustrations.

If you like omegaverse, childhood friends to lovers, miscommunication.....🤨 you might enjoy this.

I’ve Become an Omega Today wasn’t anything particularly ground breaking – at its core it is a fluffy, quick BL manga with a happy ending. The art was simple, very shoujo in style.

I don’t really feel the mangaka went too in-depth with the omega dynamics, we’re barely brushing the surface so don’t let that element of the story turn you away.

Thanks to Edelweiss and Yen Press for providing me with a copy of I’ve Become an Omega Today for my honest opinion. All thoughts are my own.

This has to be one of the most contrived BL manga I’ve ever read, and there’s nothing really “new” here besides the Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics (which aren’t as explored as they could have been). Even as far as fluff goes, the story and characters just don’t deliver. Miscommunication rules the day here, and it just gets really old really fast. Disappointing, to say the least.

I only wished that the beta and omega got together in the end, but atlas we won’t ever know. At least our main characters got their happy ending

Super cute and fluffy, feel good omega bl story. I would say this is a good and light Omega verse without some of the more problematic elements that are sometimes included. All in all a quick and enjoyable read.

Some of the omegaverse stuff out there is pretty terrible, but this was cute! nothing that a bit of open communication couldn't have fixed in the first ten pages, but that's not all that unusual in a romance. A bit of fluff and not much substance, but sometimes that is just what you need <3

This was just alright. This had the miscommunication trope which was ridiculous. There time jumps or scene changes that made it confusing for me to understand what was going on. The drama was unnecessary too. But my main issue with this was the time jumps/scene changes

I didn't hate it but I also didn't really liked it to! The story felt rushed and in the beginning I had no idea what was going on. It feels like it need more chapters in the beginning to explain everything more! That said the couple were super cute!!

Cute long-time friends to lovers omegaverse BL!

I felt a bit lost at times but I don’t know if that’s because the library formatting was completely bass-ackwards, translation issues, or the actual story. But it was still cute.

DNF

So in chapter 1 it comes off that both of these boys are under age and it's really really creepy. Then as the chapters go, they appear to age dramatically but the story is still so cringe!!
Half the story doesn't even make sense.
I bought and read it, I regret it.

It's cute romantic fluff, but to join in with the echo chamber, miscommunication in romance is such a tired trope and makes for a really dull plot point. But it's lighthearted and one of the view omegaverse stories that doesn't throw the pregnancy bit into your face, so I'll take it!
