A good read. I found Callie an interesting character and also her friend Kate. I would have liked to have seen more of Kate in spite of the fact that these 3 books were mainly about Callie and her investigations
English part time Police Doctor helps solve murders
General Practitioner Callie Hughes provides some outside help to police detectives led by Detective Inspector Steve Miller. At first the detectives are leery of Callie’s input until she is proven to be correct more often than not.
This is an English police thriller following a police doctor in Sussex on the South East coast of the UK. It was a good read although I did find, Callie, a local GP and police doctor, who the books are centred around rather naïve in her outlook on life. It was refreshing to see the contrast between her and her best friend.
This contained the first three books in a series involving part-time English general practitioner/police medical examiner Callie Hughes. Amazon bills them as standalones, but I thought they fit nicely as a series. Exciting plots, likeable characters with depth, great scene setting, topical plots, very little stupid chance taking, and endings that kept me on the edge of my seat. Also, I liked Callie enough that I read one, two, and three one right after the other, and I wasn’t sorry when I was done. I will read more in this series. If you like Patricia Cornwell or Kathy Reichs, you might like Candy Denman too.
Did not realise it was a book f short stories initially, but after reading all the stories it did read as one book as most of the characters flowed into all three stories. Some passages cut and pasted in next story. A little boring in places and very predictable and at times unbelievable. Was she a doctor or was she a police detective,it seems she did little doctoring and if I had been a doctor colleague I would have been fed up with her leaving the surgery to do amateur sleuthing . Not what I was expecting. Basic story writing
Kept me reading when I should ve doing other things.
Brilliant series. Lived the characters and story lines. Struggled with the second book to begin with as the descriptions of people and places were repeated from the first book but once I got passed that I couldn't put it down. I live in Hastings so I'm familiar with the places mentioned in the books which really brought the stories to life. Looking forward to book 4.
I wasn’t too sure whether I liked the lead character Callie but I persevered through the book 1 and halfway through book 2 Callie came alive. Seemed a bit far fetched that her life was in danger again in Book 2 and pleased thus wasn’t repeated in Book 3. Book 3 was altogether a much better story with the characters becoming well rounded. Have subsequently purchased the remaining 3 books in the series.

The main character,Carrie is annoying, frustrating, but also a very likable character, her friend,Kate is also a very likable character and funny, and brutally honest with carrie, what a team they make,it's a good captivating read,in all the books, well recommended to anyone.
I thoroughly enjoyed these three books about police doctor , Calliope Hughes. Balancing her work as a part time GP with her police work has her spinning many plates and often running on empty. Intriguing, murders, secrets , relationships and many twists,, I can recommendations series .
Not my cup of tea. No idea why it’s compared to Kathy Reichs or Patricia Cornwell. She goes and looks at dead bodies and says, oh this one has been strangled. No forensics whatsoever. I found it quite boring. And yes, I knew who the murderer was when the character was first introduced
I enjoyed the reads. Comfortable stories throughout and likable characters. I would read more if I could find them. I love the setting and the writing even had me out of breath as I climbed the steps to the old Victorian house at the top of the hill. Nice twisty plots.
Exciting, great plots, well thought out characters and edge of seat twists. Dr. Callie is smart, attractive and intuitive. Each book keeps the reader involved.
I really liked reading this book and would recommend it to other people, it keeps you guessing & this story seemed so real life like knowing how other people feel is good for an author. Thank you for writing it.
Really good books though the last one seemed to drag a bit, the reason I only gave them 4 stars is because they bear a striking similarity to another book I read a short time ago by a different author.
Both the mystery of a patient’s deterioration and the mystery of who had a vendetta against those in the law, are eventually solved by Callie-part GP and part police doctor.
A Dr Who buts in all the time because the police are so inadequate.. Good Stories but loads of questions can be asked .I suppose the best thing to do is read them as "Cozy' Mysteries
Keeps tocking along and has a good storyline. Some of the language is a bit "strange" at times, but it kept me interested and entertained. Keep them coming, it is almost guaranteed to get better and better.
Good story lines. Almost always at least one of two surprises. I enjoyed the book and the side that they each had. I willingly read more of this series if there any
Loved these three books! Knowing the area will it was easy to picture the places with in the town an the quaint alley ways around the old town of Hastings! You find yourself thinking you know who the killer is then a twist sends you another direction! Really enjoyed these crime stories! Callie is forthright & stubborn as much DCI Miller is Strong & stubborn! She slowly sees a softer side to him but he still frustrates her!
