Ghost Ships of the Baltic Sea

Rate this book
The Baltic sea holds close to 100,000 wrecks – many of them surprisingly well kept. The cold water and the historic lack of shipworms has preserved the ships better than anywhere else in the world – thus the Baltic Sea provides an enthralling treasure chest for divers. There are warships from the 17th century, magnificent wooden ships from the 18th century, cargo ships from the 19th century and warships from the Second World War.

On board these sunken ships, time has frozen – it often feels as if the crew has only just left the vessel. The wrecks have become like time capsules, a spooky mixture of serene beauty and haunting reminders of a brutal drama.

English section:
Photos of well preserved wreckages in the baltic sea together with descriptions of them and their backgrounds. There is also some accounts about how the diving went and personal takes from the divers.
Absolutely beautiful quality images in this. It is crystal clear that the creators love what they do, respect the subject matter, and wants to give the best representation of it in this book.
Now I want more, from other places on earth. Keep it coming!

Beautiful book with magnificent underwater photographs of shipwrecks in the Baltic. Some amazing pictures, some very poignant as you reflect the loss of life represented by these magnificent ships. Useful descriptions of the archaeology and history behind the pictures, but in the main, the pictures speak for themselves.

If what you want is magnificent underwater photos of shipwrecks, with a brief explanation of what the ship is and what happened to it, this is the book for you. Lavishly illustrated (and very heavy), I thoroughly enjoyed it.
