Experience Christmas through the eyes of children.
Ree, Mia, and Meg have a serious problem. They got stuck with a toy Santa when they desperately needed a Santa Who Knows Things.
Hop back to the Trellis family cul-de-sac for this brief novella. A Very Merry Mishap falls immediately after the end of The Close and before the Peacekeeper's Harmony series gets rolling.
This novella is intended to accompany the Trellisverse storylines that begin with Building the Circle. If you haven't read Building the Circle, Peacekeeper's Harmony, or Becoming Hank, you're best served by starting with one of those story branches.
Two different stories in one. The adults joining in traditions with their new loved ones, and the kids having their own problems and needing to find the santa that brought him Adrian. I'm surprised that none of them except Micah thought to think of powers, not even Sam, unless he was keeping quiet. Ben was sweet. I'm curious why he knew so much. Looks like Ree is going to have his own issues in the future. On the other side, the ornaments were sweet. Sam getting into trouble and unable to do anything was funny. I loved Darla and Micah. Micah needs hugs.

This was a very hectic slice-of-life novella that mainly revolved around Henry/Ree's mysterious powers and his relationship with Mia but wasn't fully explained or resolved around the end. It was an interesting read for a closer look at the Trellis family dynamics, but I would say it's also okay skipping.
This novella follow’s Ree’s story over Christmas. It turns out he has abilities, but the adults don’t quite believe it yet. He and his best friend, Mia, are determined to talk to the Real Santa and ask for help because the Real Santa made all his wishes come true the precious year. This book overlaps with the Peacekeeper series but in Ree’s perspective, so it doesn’t really give any context to that series.
It's a very quick story, to be read between the two series, "Building the Circle" and "Peacekeeper's Harmony", and it's perfect. I love these characters and their stories are told with such personality and humor that I hope they continue on for many following books. Luckily, if we get a series for each kid (plus a Hennessey), that's possibly enough to fulfill my hopes! Long live the Trellis family!
Christmas is about holidays warmth and family, and this story perfectly reflects that (and also that’s why Hallmark does Xmas movies best!). Read it and prepare a box of tissues at the side!
P.S. I read the author’s note and I hope that the person who this story is meant for reads it!
I truly enjoyed reading this series, the wonderful loving query funny family of characters. The vast of characters in the family and how the welcome others with their love and acceptance to the wonder of those who feel that love. I look forward to more from Maggie Lily, thank you so much for the reAding entertainment.
It’s a great start to this, hopefully, new series. I love that the children are more involved in the storyline. I look forward to reading more of Henry, Meg and Mia and their adventures with Henry’s shadow people. Maggie M Lily is a wonderful writer with a great imagination. Thank you Maggie and I look forward to reading more of your stories.
This book had me BAWLING at page 2. But don’t worry, there is a lot of feel good Trellis love and mischief to be had. Definite must read.
Not gonna lie though, the authors note at the end made me cry just as hard, maybe harder. I doubt you’ll ever read this, but unknown reader - Know you are loved
A Very Merry Mishap: A Trellis Family Novella (Trellis Family Holidays Book 1)
I absolutely love 💕 the Trellis family!!! I’m am so excited to read another series of them just being their lovable, family fun 🤩 adorable people. Their feeling of family and love is my favorite part of every single series!!! Wish they would adopt me !! Definitely recommend this book !!
Not only did this story take me on a rollercoaster of emotions, the Author’s note went and knocked me over completely. Maggie Lily writes beautifully; her story lines are compelling and her characters are well developed. Each book of the Trellis Family gives us more insight and fun. I am thrilled I found this author!
Short stories and novellas are a bit like taking Sue and stock and simmering it down to a wonderful sauce. All of the flavors gets concentrated into a smaller volume and the resulting is all the better for it. I can’t wait to read the other novellas in this series!
What I love about this story it bring love, faith happiness to those who love your family. Your books make me laugh and grin at cheesy jokes and the funny antics. So love is this thank you for it. Keep the stories coming. Happy Holidays
Short, sweet and to the point. Simply put, Maggie's books are my favorite. Not because they're great books, but because the author herself is amazing. This was a sweet little peek into the Trellis family.
Loved the series! Each family member and the challenges they faced were unique. This series grabbed my attention and held it. It also left me wanting more. Thank you for the adventure I hope they will continue.
Ree is my favorite. If it had a long term resolution to his problems I would have liked it better.
I have questions. Is Santa Ben the same Ben they know from Harbor? If he is why don’t the kids recognize him? I found the Santa thing both awesome and distracting.

I can't get enough of the Trellis family and this series. The relationships between the characters are wonderfully developed and feel real. The joy and love glows off the pages. Ms Lily is an excellent storyteller. I look forward to more from her.
It's been a while since I read the whole series. This was a heartwarming reunion with everyone while at the same time piquing my interest in possible new members for the circle. I'm glad Henry got the meet the good Santa.
It's ok yes the family being together and reading their antics is always wonderful. How ever it just opened more questions for me. I hope the other promised books come out soon so maybe the pieces will fit.
Oh my goodness I absolutely LOVED this little glimpse into a Christmas with the Trellis family!! As usual with all of Maggie’s books it kinda gives you all of the feels 💗💗💗
Maggie love your characters. They are lovely. It was a very good and short story. I like as well the end message and the reference about the proceeds going to Matthew Shepard foundation. Keep sharing of your stories Maggie. They are magical.
I can’t wait to find out how Ari can help Ree. The magic of Christmas with the treasured ornaments and the “ Santa who knows things,” made for a beautiful story!
This is a great Novella that tells the beginning of Ree’s store. It gives a greater understanding of what is happening to Ree and time with the Trellis family again. Love the family please continue to create more stores.
This short story is filled with love and a search for answers. Santa us a man who knows things and, boy, do we need the help only Santa can give! Love this!!
Do they always have to end with so much unknown? What about Henry? The book started about him. We still don’t know what the deal is with him really, until he grows up or we buy another book. Hmmm…Cliffhangers, why do they do that to us? It’s just mean.
