The year is 260 AD and the Roman Empire has fallen into chaos. It will take a man with iron in his veins to set things right and accomplish the impossible. From a humble upbringing, a boy emerges who is destined to change history. This is the story of Lucius Domitius Aurelianus.
Hector is a freedman. In 2016 he managed to escape from the corporate world, in which he played the part of a detribalised Chartered Accountant.
Nowadays he hides away in the Garden Route of South Africa with his wife and two daughters. He is addicted to reading historical novels and his hobbies include hiking, wine and sustaining niggling injuries on the tennis court.
I have read all of the author's books. Enjoyed every one!! Learning about this period in history is exciting to me. The author is a wonderful storyteller! Ready for the next book in the series!
As I have said in past reviews, there are so many characters moving in and out of the storyline that it can be difficult to keep them all straight. Same issue with place names. When I read the historical notes at the end of the book, this often helps tie pieces together. I wish I could do this while I am reading the book, but not easy to do with an ebook.
And after reading the historical notes from all of the previous books, it is clear Mr. Miller takes his research seriously. So I trust that much of what was included in this story set in the Far East is based on solid foundations.
I still enjoy the main characters and will continue with the series. But I admit to being curious as to how long Mr. Miller will stretch this.
When there are, at present, fifteen books in the series, and one reaches the tenth book; the enjoyment of being absorbed in the world of the stories is immense and entertaining.
I honestly think this would make a good ‘Netflix’ multi-season watch, I do. Charlie Hunman as Lucius, Ron the Perlman as Octar & a host of the acting pool in the other roles. Go on, make a box-set, Netflix!
Great story!I love these stories and I'm delighted you publish quickly! Lol I can't wait to read the next book. Hurry please!!!
I'm looking forward to the next ten books😁😁😁😁. After all you've brought the women back into the story. So it's hard to wait for where the story goes next.
So interestingly exciting. I feel I am riding the horses on the plains, I could taste the food, see the action feel the weather see the places, just transports you to different time and place. It kept me up until I could not keep my eyes open each night. Can't wait for the next one. Thank you.
I was not expecting this release with all the Covid craziness. And as usual I was thoroughly delighted. I love the interactions with Lucius' companions, the unexpected twists and turns. And I am ecstatic by the very last line. Cannot wait for the next book!
Having read the previous books I was surprised an d disappointed and found this book to be a mishmash and disjointed story with little substance to it! Sorry to be so brutal but I was asked for my honest opinion and have given it Not worth reading!!!
Hector Miller’s saga of Aurelian/Euchar continues to engross the reader and capture the imagination. The pages seemingly turn themselves as you are transported to the 3rd century AD. Can’t wait for the next chapter in this saga.
Loved this book mostly for its characters and the story is great and flowing. Recommend this book very much although you should start reading from the beginning. It's a great journey.
Denna bok tar steget från historisk roman till historisk fantasy, och gör det väldigt bra. Jag är inte besviken över att ha läst denna. Aurelianus besöker Kina under den samtida 3-kungarikesperiodens sista år.
A great addition to the series, though not the best. Well written and full of challenging elements of both geography and history in a very readable package.
