These are the types of reviews I struggle to write (family, please don't read this) but I have to say, this author sure knows how to write some sexy scenes. Silver is high-steam without ever nearing the point of excessive-steam, which is a balance I very much appreciate. The chemistry between Tamar and Runo is ✨ sizzling ✨, and in this book we see there relationship put to the test. Being targeted by an assassin while your secret lover tries to run a kingdom does that to you. I loved seeing how they handled it. As for the plot, I deducted half a star because I found the ... accomplice ... painfully obvious. Not enough to stray from my usual 5 stars for Lisette's books though! This was definitely a book I would have binge read if it wasn't for ... well, life.

Finally, I was pleasantly surprised that Viviette and Jaghar made an appearance, and it's reminded me that I need to go back and finish The Princess and the Spy series ASAP. You should do that too 😉

Thank you to the author for providing me with another steamy, high-stakes ARC.

***4.5/5 Stars***

Silver was a forbidden romantasy that was filled with charm, romance and political intrigue.  This was an incredible continuation of The Queen & The Assassin Series, and I loved where this story led us.  If you’re a fan of steamy romance, characters that will have you rooting for them, and fabulous angst, definitely add this series to your tbr!
He finally had a game to play. And he wasn’t going to wait a minute longer.

Runo is one of my favorites!  I loved his dark humor and that while he could hold an air of hostility, he also had the ability to inject laughter in those moments too.  He had such a spectacular way of making me feel multiple things at once.  So as the story unfolded, I loved watching him make friends in the guard and the townspeople.  Runo was clever, charismatic, sweet, kind, thoughtful, and so easy to fall for.  When an assassin was sent after him from the Empress, I truly had no clue where this story would go.  It kept me glued to the pages!
He slammed his mouth into hers.
It was a challenge, a confession, and a command at once– a kiss demanding full and instant surrender.

Tamar was in a precarious situation.  As she grew closer to Runo, no one could know.  Not even those closest to her knew about their steamy nights together or the friendship that was forming between them.  So as Tamar was civil at best in public with Runo, it cut like a knife.  I understood why, but still, it hurt.  Especially since Tamar seemed to keep her guard up around Runo.  She was so damaged from her ex-husband, and I wanted her to be brave.  Just like she was as a ruler.  I wanted her to open up and tell Runo exactly how she felt.
I just want you here. I just want you with me. But she didn’t speak the words, and the silence that fell was not an inviting silence by any means.

Tamar and Runo together were so much fun.  I loved the bond that was forming between them, and I kept all of my fingers crossed that one day Runo would rule alongside Tamar!  Runo had no problems calling Tamar out on her bs, and Tamar had no qualms about being playful with Runo.  And their steamy moments were done so fabulously *fans face*!
You just spent decades looking for a place where your heart wouldn’t kill you.

Silver left us at the perfect stopping point where we could breathe and also be excited for that next book.  I’m so glad this trilogy is complete, because I jumped right into the next one already.  And if you’ve read her series, The Princess and the Spy, you’ll be so happy to see some of our favorites in this story!

4 stars!

This is the second book in The Queen & The Assassin series, and it’s a sexy, exciting and romantic read that brings us back to the addictive Five Kingdoms world, and I loved it!

After assassin, Runo, fell for the Queen of Redwood and made the life-changing decision to walk away from his mission and his home and stay with her, he and Tamar have continued their secret affair, and things between them continue to be playful and passionately intense

A visit from neighbouring royalty puts their secret to the test when, in an exciting development, Jaghar and Viviette (from The Princess & The Spy series) come to visit. I so loved seeing these two again! Plus we get the bonus of Jaghar and Runo in the same room, and any scene that involved both of them is absolute gold! Jaghar is a smart man, and it doesn’t take him too long to figure out what’s actually going on, and I loved their banter and smartassery.

But they also bring bad news – the Taavi Empress has sent a new assassin, this time with Runo as the target. But the assassin has a personal vendetta against Runo, which puts Tamar directly into the firing line as well. As Runo goes on the offensive, we get to see what a smart and cunning man he is, and just how far he is prepared to go to protect the woman he loves, and I loved getting to see this side of him.

“Tamar.” Runo sat up again, fixing his gaze on her. “I’m not being poetic when I say I’d rather die than see you hut. You might have noticed.”

“Stop hurting yourself and I’ll be here to stop anyone else who tries, I promise.”

But at the same time, Runo is struggling to find his place in Tamar’s life. She is clinging on to her authority and her reputation as the badass queen she feels that she needs to be, refusing to even acknowledge the man in her life outside of the bedroom. It’s a difficult position for both of them, and I could see where they were both coming from, but behind closed doors their romance is just gorgeous.

“The problem,” he said, wrapping his arms around her again, “is that I love you like the madman I am, and I want to love you whenever it damn well pleases me.”

And so, they find themselves playing a very delicate and dangerous political game. With both of their lives on the line, and their relationship under continuing strain, they’ll have to work through it, trusting in each other to survive, and to keep the kingdom intact.

This is another really strong read from Lisette Marshall. I love coming back to this world, and when the book finished, I just wanted to keep reading, not ready for it to end. She’s done a great job further developing Runo and Tamar’s love story, and after the final events of this book, I’m really excited to see where the story goes in the final book of their trilogy.

Loved it – 4 stars!

Thanks so much to the author, Lisette Marshall for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own

Silver is the second instalment in The Queen and The Assassin series so because of this there will be spoilers in this review. Proceed with caution.

At the beginning of this book, we find Tamar and Runo dealing with the consequences of what happened at the end of Iron, Tamar is trying to make the Empire pay for attempting to kill her and because of this she invites the King and Queen of the Picks, Jaghar and Viviette. Both were delightful to read about.

I loved how Runo and Tomar were trying to figure out how to convince this royals and the monarchs of the other kingdoms. Despite of Runo's doubts and Tamar internal struggles, they most the time a team. I very much enjoyed the exploration of Runo’s self doubts and doubts about his relationship with Tamar and how it’s resolved.
Tamar’s trauma and control issues, her insecurities I think were handled and portrayed very well. There’re times I got very anxious and very much in pain seeing her losing control.

I really loved to see a glimpse of the idea and possible introduction of magic into this world. It will be a great asset if it is. It would change the rules of the game entirely.

I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions, especially the character’s non verbal interactions.

The book made me very emotional at times when Runo and Tamar remembered their past.

I loved how much in so little time they knew and protected each other. Those scenes where Runo took care with so much love of Tamar were so so good and they transmitted so much love and security. I loved them.

I really enjoyed the parallels between Tamar, and Eelia's unhealthy obsession with the past. And how much of a difference Runo made in that sense with Tamar.

From the beginning I saw the twist, but it didn’t deter my experience one bit.

It was a wonderful sequel and I can’t wait for the next one.

Oh my gosh so this second book was totally as fun as the first! So much so that I took the iPad intending to turn it off, and I had Silver open, and over three hours later, standing in front of the bathroom sink, I finished the book. There's an addictive quality to these things! Of course, Runo's in fine form so that could have a lot to do with it! haha :-) If you read the first book Iron, I recommend this 100%!

I'm super-happy that both Tamar and Runo kept communication open in this (I despise relationship drama that separates characters just because they didn't sit down and talk, so I was happy that Tamar and Runo both communicate!).

I did cringe at one point when he said she was being ridiculous (because her late husband Anzor had also said that to her), but I did LOVE what Runo was trying to do in that scene (if he did it a bit clumsily with his choice of wording there!) and that he didn't let her! She would have been so wrecked if he'd let her do what she thought she had to do.

Another reviewer called Runo a cinnamon roll and he totally is, and deliciously sexy and freakishly funny :-) I kept giggling so much throughout the book. The first conversation between him and Jaghar was top-notch. In fact, his conversations with everyone were pretty perfect. And the knitting club! ROFL priceless.

And *cough* the sexytimes with Tamar were hot.

If you haven't read Iron, do it now and then read this one :-D

The BANTER. The banter is *chef's kiss*. That and I wanted to kiss the playful smirk right off of Runo's sexy face. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The banter alone is worth ten stars.

The library scene all by itself is worth twenty stars.

Runo's smirks and smiles and golden eyes earns the book another ten stars.

Reading about Tamar slowly loosening up and embracing her feelings for Runo was worth another thirty stars... All in all, Marshall did it again. Another great, entertaining, sexy read with all the political intrigue I've come to crave.

Many thanks to author for providing me with the eArc of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

It was so cute, okay perhaps not the best word to describe this but it's the first word that came to my mind. In this book I get to like the characters even more then before. The writing was so good I just read it on one sitting haha. I cannot wait for the last book, and to see what will happen next.

Runo is probably my favorite assasin for the rest of my life. He takes life very seriously in an easy way, there is no other way to describe it. His feelings are infinitely deep and I love the way he loves Tamar.

Tamar is still very much dominated by her fears and I can understand her so much, but I wish for her that she can heal and regain confidence in herself. I want to see her happy, even outside of the few hours with Runo. May she finally dance on Anzor's grave.

I really like the second book. The story is well written and shows how many wrong decisions we make when we think we are doing right.

I received an ARC for free, thank you for letting me be part of your team 🖤

It’s almost like I forgot how mesmerizing this world is! It truly was great to be back with Tamar and Runo, and in new ways! I love that the characters have grown to be able to mend and heal together, rather than completely falling apart. It really does bring me such happiness to witness the characters finally getting their happiness- although it took a while to get there.

There is such a great mix of plot, politics, emotional intimacy, and physical intimacy. The author really stepped up her game here by balancing it out! And as always, the steam was just so on point. Finding authors that can write all those things in one is really hard, so I’m more than glad to have one here that can.

I think there is just two main reasons that I wasn’t totally head-over-heels for Silver. The first is that I didn’t necessarily feel like the stakes were high, like it wasn’t suspenseful or keeping me on edge that much. I would have liked for some more tension to be added to create that suspense- but it was difficult to stop reading nonetheless. The second reason is that the conflict seems to stuck between being a background developer, and being the actual conflict. It’s like two sides of the same coin, and instead of blending nicely together- it seems oddly out of place.

Reading Silver was a gem though! My first book of the year, and a great way to start it off if you ask me! Regardless of those issues I have with it, I think I will always love the author’s writing because it is just so gripping and intense. So although I have my doubts sometimes, it will always have a special place in my heart and mind. And trust me, that spice does find its way into my mind!

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an ebook advance reader copy for free- in exchange of me leaving a review both honestly and voluntarily.

The adventures of the Iron Queen and the Taavi assassin continue in this thrilling sequel to Iron!

The Iron Queen was expecting some semblance of peace at the castle after the betrayal of her guard, but is there ever truly peace when you're a queen bedding an assassin who once tried to kill you?

Another assassin, an old "friend" of Runo's is after him, the consequence of his turning his back on the empress. Except she's after him with more cause than just her mission, she has a grudge against him.

Can the bickering Queen and assassin survive this new Silver Dagger assassin?

This was a great sequel, one I can honestly say I enjoyed equally as much as the first one. We get to see plenty more of Tamar and Runo. I love the vulnerability we get to see in both of them. Nothing is more swoon worthy than a male character actually letting himself be vulnerable. Okay maybe there's a few things more swoon worthy but that's for another time!

This book was great mixture of politics, steamy romance and conflict. I loved getting to see more of Jaghar and Viviette after learning a bit about them in the previous book. Viviette is certainly more than what meets the eye and I love the way Jaghar seems smitten with her despite his serious demeanor. I loved their characters and hope for more of them!

Thanks for having me as part of the arc team!

First off, I was given this book to read for an honest review. A huge thank you to L. Marshall
Possible spoilers.
In all honesty, I haven’t read the first book in this series. What’s great though, is even though I was a tad confused as to what was going on at first, but it didn’t take long for me to get an understanding of what had previously happened. If you haven’t read the first book, it’s very easy to get the wrong impression of the queen. To do this review without spoilers is going to be hard.
Queen Tamar is in a bind. Should she allow the assassin in and let her heart be his? She has a kingdom to run, and a point to prove. He came to kill, but instead fell in love with the “cold hearted” queen. Everyone tells her to stay away from him, he is dangerous, especially in the bedroom. As she tries to separate her affair with him from running her kingdom they are sent word of another assassin, who’s out to get him. Will she turn her back on him, and throw him out, or will she do what it takes to keep him? Will she let her love for him be known?
This book is definitely steamy, and a page turner. You are constantly wondering what will happen next. With the surprises of deception, in the end, you will be wanting to read the next book! I’m definitely going to read the first and third one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Gosh I just adore Tamar and Runo! This sequel has even more political intrigue, suspense, mystery, thrills, and steamy romance!

An assassin is once again sent by the Empress, however, this time the assassin is after Runo. Tamar is under a lot of pressure of trying to be the Iron Queen, but also protect Runo. Runo is trying to protect Tamar, and yet it is difficult when she does not want him to leave, and he also is not allowed to really be with her in public and he thinks leaving would be best for her, and on top of that is all the political unrest doing on that Tamar is trying to figure out and handle.

You really get to see and learn more about each of their insecurities. I love that they actually talk, although sometimes it's like pulling teeth with them, but they do talk about everything and Runo does a good job of not allowing Tamar to walk all over him, and yet being respectful towards Tamar at the same time. Tamar I think grew the most in this book. She has to overcome that mentality she has that she always has to be the Iron Queen and if she strays from that mentality, she has the fear of people viewing her as weak. And all this is going on while they're trying to find the assassin, and who is once again helping the assassin.

I just think Runo is the most heartfelt, warm, and sassiest cinnamon roll ever, and I love him with Tamar. They just seem to balance each other out so well. I loved the mystery in this book once again trying to figure out who is the traitor again like in the first book, and the suspense of it all, while rooting for my favorite characters to be okay. We even get a brief glimpse of Vivi and Jaghar!

I highly recommend this book! Thank you Lisette for a free digital copy to read!

I love it when a middle book in a trilogy not only does not take a step back, but rather it picks up steam. My, oh, my; Lisette Marshall’s The Queen & The Assassin series picks up some serious steamy steam in Silver—the second book of the series.

Silver finds our main lovers, Tamar—the Iron Queen, and Runo—the Foreign Assassin, both struggling with their perceived roles and personal histories. For Tamar, how does she rectify her image as the stoic, tough-as-iron monarch, with her underlining decency and compassion, and passion for Renu? Our assassin, on the other hand, is coming to realize he can be loved and respected for more than just his deadly skills.

The romance was delightful and brilliantly written in that Tamar and Runo sort of unlock the best in each other. Plus, their chemistry is off the charts hot, and their witty banter is put-a-smile-on-your-face wonderful. Add in a well-placed element of danger and action, and this book was a total win for me.

Edit: After finishing the third book, I can say Silver is may favorite of the three, in case that interests anyone.

The Queen & the Assassin #2
Fantasy
Lisette Marshall
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed the first book so I couldn't wait to read this one.

I found the start a little confusing because I wasn't quite sure what was happening or how much time was meant to have passed but it didn't take long to make sense of it.

The pacing was a little slower but I still managed to read it in about 7 hours because I just couldn't put it down.

I love Runo and Tamar. They have opposite personalities, Runo uses humour and teasing to deal with things whereas Tamar is intense and takes everything extremely seriously but together they are great and bounce off one another. Sometimes I found myself getting mixed up with the side characters and what their roles were.

I'd like the different Kingdoms to be explored more, as well as their rulers and the citizens. There's a lot of mention of conflicts and tensions between the kingdom's but it isn't in much detail.

The plot itself was interesting. The build up to the next assassin appearing was good and with each page I was waiting for her to reveal herself. I wish there was more interaction with her though because there was hardly any character development

Overall this was a good sequel and I look forward to reading the next one.

This is a follow-on book from Iron. It continues the story of Tamar and Runo.

Runo was a former Taavi assassin who had been sent to kill Tamar, but he fell in love with her instead. He disobeyed the Empress of the Taavi Empire when he found out that the Empress was not what she seemed to be. Although she appeared to have saved him as a boy, she had actually ordered the deaths of his whole village and his family.

No-one disobeys the Empress without consequents and the Empress has sent one of her top assassins to kill Runo. Runo must outwit this assassin and protect Tamar as well.

This is a very enjoyable read, but Iron should be read first before Silver. They are both full length books.

I absolutely love this series and am waiting eagerly for the next book. I recommend this series. It is full of action, steamy romance with a bit of humor thrown in.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review, which I have given above.

I enjoyed this second book a little more than the first book (Iron), I think simply because it wasn't so much insta-lust and sex. Tamar and Runo are developing more of an actual relationship during this plot, but I do feel though that the characters still remain somewhat dense. It's interesting how hard they try to keep their relationship such a secret, but others can easily see through the facade. Tamar bothered me during this story, mostly because she's so unrelenting on so many things, especially their relationship. Runo just wants to be there for her, but she says she trusts him when clearly she doesn't act that way. Runo is super smart, and does more work for her guards and soldiers than her own people do! I was surprised by the "traitor", but it really made sense after all. I think the story was drawn out and then the climax was short and simple.

Book Two continues the story of Tamar and Runo as they not only try to conceal their secret, but save Runo from a new assassin who has his name on their hit list.

Runo and Tamar have an incredible relationship that is playful and steamy. After Runo walked away from his mission to be with the queen, they still need to keep it on the downlow. We get to see two characters from the Princess and the Spy, Vivette and Jahgar, come for a visit and Jahgar being incredibly smart, figures out their secret. I adored the banter between Jahgar and Runo, especially ones he figures everything out.

I love the author's writing and seeing them develop a story line. They make each book highly interesting with characters you just fall in love with. The pacing was fast, and that allowed for a lot of detail to be added to the story.

breathtaking

The author delivers an enthralling 2nd volume.
Building tidily on the story of the first novel, the reader is enthralled.
The political intrigue is cleverly drawn and well plotted ( a rarity!).
Stephen Donaldson " Mirror of Her Dreams" comes to mind for the sophisticated maneuverings of a fully staffed castle.
This review could easily derail into a rant over less articulate authors but let me focus on this books positives.
I couldn't put it down.
book one ended on a
high note, and I couldn't imagine that the next book could match it. Where could they build to from this peak? I wondered.
Well admirably more was built!
From the tension of clandestine interludes, and the romance of longing, the breathless drama was built.
Riveting writing style - give us more!

Ultimately I enjoyed this, but I was getting rather bored at the beginning. I honestly don't really care for all the politics (perhaps I would were they a little more interwoven with the romance), and the beginning segment was rather dull for me. There was an emotional conflict in the romance, that I wish were treated a little more like the emotional conflict was in the first, wherein the FMC's angst pervaded throughout and was pretty acutely rendered. Here, her internal monologue didn't really contribute to that external conflict. Regardless, the book picked up in the second half.

It would help to read the predecessor series, which I read the first, and not successive, books of. This can do as a standalone, but some minor characters and prior action are reliant on the prior series, and I wish I'd finished that first.

The Iron Queen, Tamar and Runo are back together in Silver. With a new threat looming, Tamar and Runo struggle with navigating their relationship at court. Runo pushes for more than sneaking around at night. He wants her to at least look at him like a friend in public. On top of all of this, an assassin is out to kill Runo. This assassin isn’t just anyone, but one the best and they are out for vengeance.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love how Runo continues to push Tamar to be more human and less Iron Queen. He also has a superb knack for the politics of ruling. Tamar clearly loves him, but thinks it makes her look weak. I’m hoping Runo can convince her otherwise because he doesn’t deserve to feel like a dirty little secret. I really enjoy these two together and can’t wait to see where life takes them next. Hopefully, she will come to her senses and finally claim him in the next book!

Once again we get to meet the Iron Queen and the Assassin. First half I'm a bit bored and confused. Who are all these people? I recognise the names but can't remember how they know each other and this series is more about the relationships and less about the assassination plot. So, therefore it's slow. When I finally put it togheter and things start to happen it's phenomenal. I did not see that coming!

The Queen loves control, just as I do, but she takes it to another level. It's an interesting struggle being part of how her control is challenged in the relationship with the Assassin. The struggle made my "warning bells" ring. It's written in a way that makes it feel very real. Ups and downs. Insecurities. Is their relationship truly a good one?

"Deadly intrigue, dark secrets and sizzling forbidden love" - yes, that's definitely what we get in Silver. Do I love it? YES!

I just wish they'd be more honest with each other and to scratch that "forbidden" part of the love. I'm ready to know what happens between them going forward.

The fun that started in Iron continues in Silver! I love Runo and I really enjoyed watching his and Tamar’s relationship grow. Runo is hilarious and I love their banter. Tamar really needs Runo to show her that she can be an effective ruler while still being human. They have their problems but I liked that they talk them out and work through things together. There’s plenty of excitement and danger as well which keeps the plot moving. I’m really enjoying this series of steamy fantasy romances and I’m looking forward to the next book!

I received an arc from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I officially made Runo my book husband. He's there, next to Wrath, Domiel, Des, Rhys and Casteel 😂

👶 ~ felt more Adult then NA

🌶 ~ Runo... 🥰 you can do whatever you want, in the library, in the bath, wherever 🥵

⚔ ~ Not much I can say, since this is the second installment. But I can tell you that it felt like a slap in the face because I dared to be upset with Tamar and turn a blind eye to her trauma. Runo is everything! I need this assassin in my life!

👑 ~ The struggle to keep all in control is draining Tamar, the Iron queen... the court, the alliance kingdoms, enemy empire, family and her dearest assassin 🥰

I absolutely loved this second installment of the Queen and the Assassin... the witty banter is still there, as is the hot steamy scenes... that is so well done and I loved following Tamar and Runo's journey together, all strengthening their bond, while assassins are after Runo and Tamar tries to run her kingdom. While they also try to keep their relationship under wraps for the people around them. It all just sizzles with intriguing mysteries along with their shared passion.

It's a fantastic world the author has created here, and I love how all the books here are integrated and I can't wait to read the next book.

I loved how book 1 sets up their relationship, and book 2 explores both their insecurities and finally strengthens their relationship further.

Oh, and there's a murder/mystery twist that is 100% unexpected 😂 these books are as much murder mystery as they are about romance, and that is absolutely wonderful!

This book also shows a few scenes with Viviette and Jaghar, the MCs of this author's previous trilogy, and the the throwbacks were 💯

Can't wait for book 3, Gold, which is scheduled to be released in early 2022!

This second book does not disappoint. It is as good as the first. Tamar keeps up the apperance that she is still the Iron Queen in public but in private she melts for Runo. Runo keeps wanting more from Tamar and when a hit is put on his head, he starts to assert himself. He interacts freely with visiting royals which Tamar did not want. Tamar worries that the assassin will succeed killing Runo. The soul searching that they do together is remarkable. They really talk about what each other is going through. Can't wait for the final book.

I read this in one day, great read. The Empress of Taavi, Maiva, has sent an assassin, Eelia, to kill Runo. Tamar has still not admitted her love for Runo to anyone, While Runo makes friends with the local people and the castle guards, he also tries to convince Tamar to soften her image as the Iron Queen, so she is no longer feared, but actually loved by her people. As in the first book, the usual castle intrigue, a knifing here and there, and of course romance

The continuing story of Tamar and Runo didn’t disappoint! Tamar feels she has to be strong to rule. But Runo tries to show her another way to reach her people without alienating them. The course of their story isn’t smooth but that is the way of real life! You can feel their pain and joy just as if they are your friends!
