A luxurious pleasure cruise attracts the attention of families looking to get away on a nice summer vacation on the sea. The ship is glamorous, the food is delightful and the servants are unnaturally beautiful. As guests begin to go missing at an alarming rate, the facade of a peaceful getaway is quickly shattered as blood begins to flow. The ship is being run by inhuman monsters disguised as humans. They have a thirst for blood, a hunger for flesh, an appetite for cruelty and an urge to dominate lesser beings. Stranded in the middle of the sea with nowhere to run and horrifying predators lurking around every corner, the odds are stacked against the poor powerless guests.
This series starts off with a simple yet horrifying premise. Imagine being stranded on a ship with cannibalistic sadists with vampiric powers, the only way out is to jump off the ship and die an even slower death than being killed by these bloodthirsty monsters. The horror is great and there's some awesomely grotesque art that resembles extreme horror movies from the 80's. It's what I imagine a manga created by Richard Laymon would look like.
While the manga starts off great, it really dives off the deep end (no pun intended) in its second half. It goes from being a terrifying paranormal slasher to being... I'm not sure how to describe it. It felt like it suddenly introduced 200 chapters worth of complex concepts that came out of nowhere and tried to cram it into a measly 12 or so chapters. It was extremely rushed, confusing and I didn't understand it all. Unfortunately, this led to an unsatisfying and anticlimactic ending that made no sense.
I enjoyed the first half and I really liked the Victorian horror setting which isn't too common in manga, but the second half and the ending make it hard to recommend.

Not a bad opening volume, and intriguing enough for me to continue further into the series. The main characters are all likeable, and the setting makes for a good hook. Art-wise, I'm torn. As of late, it seems every manga I've chosen to read just happens to have incredibly detailed artwork, and that is not the case here. Satomi has a unique style, which is mostly cartoonish, even occasionally looking like doodles someone would make on a napkin while waiting for their lunch at a diner.
The line-work is also very light, with a ton of white space on most pages, and as this is the first of Satomi's work that I've read, I don't know if that's a way for her to make her deadlines or just her general style, but it feels at odds with the tone of the story. Some of the more suspenseful and gory scenes don't hit as hard as they may have because shadows and shading is so sparse. But when Satomi does decide to go heavy on the inks, it's very impressive. And the most important thing of all, her illustrations are easily readable when it comes to the artwork itself doing the storytelling rather than the dialogue, which is a massive plus in any type of sequential art, but particularly important in black-and-white manga.
TL;DR: Intrigued by the story, artwork is hit-or-miss but conveys the narrative well, will read more.

Woahhhh, welp, normally I don't read gory manga like this, or I give it a shot and then run away almost puking. But this one drew me in. What is going on with this ship, who are these people, are they vampires? Cannibals? Both? The first scene we see is of a girl being murdered and then.. eaten or at least drained of her blood. Yup. Not the best scene for my tummy. Then we meet Akari and her family and also other people. As the story continues we see those people come back, however not all for the better. All the other people that are not the baddies? They disappear either slowly or in whole batches. At times the baddies show their true colours but hide it thanks to glamour and glitter. But some people know the truth now, but can they escape? Or not, as this is a ship, and dang you are on open sea. Drown? Or be eaten? Even with the boats on the sides, can they get away fast enough? And what is up with the little girl that belongs to the baddies?
Also, yes, a bit early on reading this. I am actually saving most horror for Halloween, but it being Friday 13th I thought this would be appropriate. :P I guess this is just an early Halloween read.
It is pretty gruesome, but I do want to read the next volume as well. Wish me luck. :P

Puh. Ich weiß nicht, ob es daran liegt, dass ich einfach schon so lange keinen blutigen Horror mehr gelesen habe (oder einfach älter geworden bin, aber das ignorieren wir einfach mal), aber zwischendurch wurde mir schon ein paar mal schlecht. Was man nun negativ oder auch positiv werten kann 😀
Der Manga beginnt deutlich blutiger als ich den Einstieg erwartet hatte. Also wer keinen stabilen Magen hat, sollte einen Blick auf die ersten Seiten werfen und dann entscheiden, ob er weiterliest.
Ich habe natürlich trotz kleinen Magenturbulenzen weiter gelesen – wie könnte ich auch anders? Der Anfang lässt doch viele Fragen stehen – was war das, wer war das und wieso? Aber direkt darauf beginnt die Hauptgeschichte mit Akari und ihrer Familie. Was als Familienurlaub beginnt, wird innerhalb des ersten Tages zu grausamen Ereignissen.
Die Geschichte verlief recht flott, hat im ersten Band einiges an Fragen aufgeworfen und endet mit einem guten Cliffhanger. Es gibt dabei zwar eine Andeutung, allerdings bin ich mir noch nicht ganz sicher, ob die Darstellung wirklich so offensichtlich gemeint wie dargestellt ist. Es wäre eine akzeptable Aufklärung, die ich aber schade fände, weil sie nicht so besonders wie erhofft wäre. Aber warten wir auf die Fortsetzung, in der wir hoffentlich mehr Antworten bekommen werden!
Ich liebe das Cover! Und genauso gut hat mir auch der Zeichenstil des Manga-Inneren gefallen. Er ist für einen Horror-Manga richtig toll – viele Details und trotzdem nicht überladen.

Die Reihe ist in Japan bereits mit fünf Bänden abgeschlossen, also werden wir in den Folgebänden hoffentlich noch einiges erwarten können!

el libro en sí es entretenido y tiene gancho en opinión de la gente, pero yo soy una persona muy sensible. no me esperaba que tuviera gráficos tan hardcore para mi gusto, debería haber avisos sobre dañar la sensibilidad del espectador ;-; la verdad es que no creo que vaya a continuar los mangas, porque no soy mucho de leer sobre vampiros y a mí particularmente no me interesaron mucho. la trama se me quedó sin más, (ya sé que es el primer tomo, que es una introducción), pero simplemente no me ha llamado la atención tanto que diga, sí, tengo que leer los siguientes.

Noah of the Blood Sea, el primer volumen de la serie de Yū Satomi, ofrece una bienvenida que es tanto escalofriante como adictiva, especialmente si se viene del universo de la literatura de horror más tradicional. Con una estética inquietante y una narrativa compacta pero efectiva, esta obra no sólo marca un debut prometedor dentro de su propia saga, sino que también se revela como una excelente puerta de entrada al medio japonés para quien no había explorado el formato anteriormente.
El punto de partida es simple pero potente: un grupo de estudiantes y un profesor se embarcan en un crucero de lujo, el Noah, que pronto se transforma en un escenario cerrado y asfixiante donde una amenaza vampírica y violenta comienza a propagarse como una plaga. El tropo del espacio cerrado –herencia clara del horror clásico tipo Alien o La cosa de Carpenter– se reinventa aquí con los códigos y el ritmo propios del manga de género: viñetas cargadas de dinamismo, primeros planos viscerales, silencios narrativos que amplifican la tensión, y escenas explícitas que no se contienen ante la crudeza gráfica.
Lo más interesante de este primer volumen es cómo se las arregla para dosificar la información sin diluir el misterio. Satomi plantea más preguntas de las que responde, creando un clima de vulnerabilidad constante. Vampiros la crucerada. 5 tomos na más. Pues eso, un crucero regentado por Vampiro donde invitan humanos para hacer lo que todo el mundo sabe. Se lee muy rápida, demasiado a veces. Voy a ir al final que es lo que menos me ha gustado por ser tan abierto. Si se resuelve todo lo del crucero, pero eso solo da paso a que en el último capítulo te metan un montón de cosas nuevas sin desarrollar como con la intención de hacer una continuación en el futuro, ya veremos. Luego todo lo que es la historia bien, se centra entre Kaiser (jefe vampiro), Kakeru y sus amigos (humanos), una familia que no recuerdo sus nombres (también humanos) y Noah (vampiro). Y así a parte del presente y los sucesos en el barco también veremos cómo surgen estos vampiros y el pasado de algunos de ellos. Otra cosa es que creo que a veces es brutal por serlo, no hace falta que todo sea brutalidad.

Tengo mal cuerpo después de haber leído el manga y eso está bien porque es lo que te pide la historia. El dibujo tan oscuro y con los trazos que tiene hacen que te metas de lleno y que incluso tiembles un poquito (mi caso XD).
Ese final no me lo veía venir la verdad y tengo ganas de continuarla.

Dieser erste Band hat mir richtig gut gefallen. Was für eine krasse Idee, die Tatsache dass es auf einem Schiff mit einem Meer Spiel, beflügelt die Atmosphäre. Bin sehr heiß auf die nächsten Bände. Und auch neugierig was die Story noch bringen mag, und die genauen Details der hintergründe.

Me he llevado una sorpresa con la trama del libro. Sabía que cosas espeluznantes iban a suceder en el barco pero no de ese estilo. Además, la acción comienza casi al principio así que no te aburres nunca.

Die Reihe hat mich absolut umgehauen.
Mir fiel sofort das düstere Cover auf und ich wollte wissen war sich dahinter verbirgt.
Die düstere Atmosphäre des Mangas ist durch die Seiten zu spüren.
Es beginnt auch direkt blutig und eher grausam.
Es war einfach so unglaublich spannend von Band 1 bis zum Ende.
Ich hab die Reihe in einem Rausch verschlungen.
Ich liebe diese düstere, grausame und blutige Atmosphäre und es lässt einen als Leser atemlos zurück.
Es kommen vielseitige Charaktere vor und das macht den Manga einfach noch interessanter.
Die Storyline ist etwas verwickelt und erst mit den kommenden Bänden taucht man in die Vergangenheit ein.
Der Artstyle ist eher minimalistisch und klar, doch mit vielen Emotionen und Vielschichtigkeit.
Ein blutiges, düsteres Lesevergnügen, dass den Leser in Atem hält.

Porque el barco no es un barco cualquiera: la tripulación y la mayoría de los viajeros son otro tipo de criaturas, unas criaturas que sólo quieren sangre...
¿Y quién es Noah? Pues Noah es una niña que camina entre ambos mundos, entre los humanos y entre los vampiros. Y es ella la que inclinará la balanza a favor de unos u otros.

Serie de cinco tomos que da otra vuelta de tuerca a las historias de vampiros. Aquí lo más interesante es el entorno en el que se desarrolla, un barco del que es imposible escapar, con lo que al final esto también se conviene en un relato de supervivencia. Hay algunos trazos novedosos dentro del mundo vampírico que resultan bastante interesantes, aunque en general la historia se desarrolla de forma algo previsible. No le faltan escenas escabrosas acompañadas por dibujos grotescos y extravagantes, lo que refuerza el conjunto y hace que la historia llegue mejor y de forma más directa. Por contra, he echado de menos algo de profundidad y que no se hayan desarrollado algunos temas que me han parecido merecedores de algo más de protagonismo.

This horror story does not shy away from bloody gore, so maybe I shouldn't be eating when I read it... If you can get past the first scene, then you're good, read on. The story is rather standard horror, with an organization that hunts regular people. Most of the focus is on the regular folks, to add mystery to the events as they search for proof and then figure out a plan to stay alive. Still, it's pretty clear from the first few pages that the bad guys have the upper hand and the good guys are pretty much dead meat. Literally.
Akari and her baby brother Yuzuru are taken on a cruise by their father. All is not what it seems when they stumble onto an area that is unexplicably off-limits. It might just be a members-only area, or maybe the starting scene is relevant. It has some well-dressed men around a table, cutting off and eating a young girl while she's still breathing.

Schon seit kindertagen an liebe ich Mangas sehr. Mit den Jahren, gefallen mir die blutigen umso besser und bei "Noah of the Blood Sea" von Yu Satomi geht es mächtig zur Sache😁
Erstmal kurz zur Story: Akari und ihre Familie sind auf einer Kreuzfahrt. Hier lernt sie den Studenten Kakeru und seine Freunde kennen. Schnell wird aber klar, auf diesem Schiff stimmt es gewaltig nicht, denn es verschwinden Menschen.
Ich muss sagen, der Manga besticht durch seine super Zeichnungen und der Hammer Story. Am Anfang war ich etwas verwirrt aber das hat sich schnell gefangen und man kommt super mit.
Es ist spannend von Anfang an und natürlich auch von Seite eins an blutig. Die Protagonisten sind wirklich schön dargestellt und sehr lustig auf ihre Art.
Als Mangafan kann ich hier nur eine klare Leseempfehlung aussprechen! Jeder, der auf die härtere Gangart bei Mangas steht, kommt hier voll auf seine kosten😁 Bin schon sehr gespannt, wie die Kreuzfahrt weitergeht😁

Que manera de empezar una serie de mangas! Ya desde las primeras páginas la cosa es un poco heavy. Realmente es muy buen comienzo, provoca la curiosidad necesaria para querer seguir con el siguiente al instante (estoy parando solo para escribir está reseña y sigo con el segundo tomo).
La historia transcurre en un crucero de lujo, por lo menos en este primer tomo, y no tengo ni idea si debo encariñarme con alguno de los personajes. Estos son de clase media y en el crucero hay varios lugares a los cuales no pueden acceder porque son lugares exclusivos para los socios, aquellos que al parecer son de clase alta y los cuales no se los ha visto. Pero sin embargo noche tras noche son invitados a cenas y espectáculos sin sospechar que hay detrás.
Hay crudeza en la historia y en este primer tomo pasan muchas cosas 😱 ya quiero saber que viene después.

“Noah of the Blood Sea” ist eine sehr fesselnde aber auch ekelerregende Story!
Akari und ihre Familie machen eine Schiffsreise an der Küste Japans. Dort lernt sie Kakeru kennen. Schon bald bemerken Kakeru und seine Freunde, dass etwas auf dem Schiff nicht stimmt. Nach dem ersten Event bleiben Akari und ihre Familie spurlos verschwunden. Auch andere Passagiere, die am Abend zuvor gegessen haben, haben sie seitdem nicht wieder gesehen. Kakeru vermutet, dass Menschen auf diesem Schiff getötet werden.
Die Zeichnungen sind der Hammer und die Storyline ist sehr spannend. Der erste Band endet mit einem Cliffhänger, der einen neugierig auf den nächsten Teil macht und viel verspricht.
Dieser Manga ist nichts für schwache Nerven, aber genau das richtige für Leser, die das Genre Horror lieben!

Overall had a very strong start and amazingly refreshing plotting and pace but like many series slowly but surely becomes far too convoluted and ridiculous for its own good. The same tropes of characters being alive far too long considering the circumstances, as well as new elements being added and never expanded upon just drags it down badly by the end.
It picks back up with the first half of volume 4 but that's mostly because of flashbacks and a twist I didn't see coming but again was refreshing.
There is unfortunately in the series a very offensive stereotypical character, and that is putting it lightly. I find it difficult to rate the series at all in good conscious so am removing my stars on them because of this.

Manche Manga brauchen wohl einen brutalen Einstieg. ;) Die Luxuskreuzfahrt, zu der viele junge Japaner:innen eingeladen wurden, entpuppt sich schnell als reines Blood Feast.. Kinder verschwinden, unheimliche Gestalten wabern herum und neben schrägen "Zaubershows" darf man gefühlt in keinen Bereich des Schiffes gehen. Dass die "1. Klasse" nicht nur irgendein elitärer Club ist, macht schon der Beginn des Mangas klar.
Einige künstlerische Panels lockern die Szenen sehr auf. Vom Zeichenstil aber viel zu sketchy.
Ich denke, wenn man von Anfang an auf 1-2 Zeichen achtet, weiß man sehr schnell, welche Art von Manga das wird. Hatte bei dem Cover allein schon eine bestimmte Vermutung, die auch zutraf.
Freue mich erstmal auf die Diskussion mit meinem Buchclub. So richtig begeistert hatte es mich noch nicht, ...

A priori, la premisa era força estimulant: vampirs i les seves víctimes juntes i tancades en un espai del que no poden escapar. Haurem de veure com evoluciona la història en pròxims números, aquest primer és per posar-nos en situació i, tret d'excepcions, té un to suau. Hi ha moments intrigants amb un vampirisme de gourmet que sembla amagar força secrets i una vena perversa que dóna esperança que la obra augmenti en barroquisme. És d'esperar que vagi pujant d'intensitat. Amb les il·lustracions he quedat una mica decebut: esperava que tindria el nivell de "Mushishime" i la veritat que és molt més pla, amb poc treball dels escenaris i personatges.

Non avevo grandi aspettative per Noah of the Blood Sea, anche perché ho letto/visto abbastanza storie di vampiri per sapere che, dopo un po', finiscono tutte per somigliarsi in qualche modo. Invece quest'opera, non "reinventando" la ruota, riesce comunque a dare una certa freschezza al canone vampiresco.
La tavole di Satomi non sono sempre eccellenti, anzi spesso sembrano quasi pigre, al limite del bozzetto, ma in diversi punti riesco ad essere davvero intense.
In sintesi, una miniserie costruita come un violento crescendo, che sicuramente merita un posto nelle librerie di tutti gli amanti dei vampiri.

After a certain point, the quality of writing nosedives and the series goes from decent to awful in a matter of panels. Every single thing about the ending makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
There's a very racist depiction of a black man who is extremely large with massive lips. The art is otherwise good, but I hate everyone involved in this project now... so...
The author of the story should never be allowed near a computer or pen and paper again. Awful.

La verdad es que me pareció un inicio irregular. Si bien logra establecer intriga, es poco lo que hace con ella, limitándose a mostrar un poco de la violencia que tiene guardada para más adelante. Entendemos la amenaza que se cierne sobre el crucero, pero peca de jugar mucho con eso y terminar el tomo con un cliffhanger.
Aun así, no deja de ser un misterio que me interesa ver cómo se desenvuelve. El dibujo está bien, se nota moderno, con personalidad. No resalta demasiado pero logra sentar las bases de su estilo.

Un manga muy ligero y fácil de leer. El dibujo me ha gustado mucho, y la historia, en donde un grupo de pasajeros se meten en un crucero lleno de vampiros sedientos de sangre, me ha parecido innovadora. No obstante no me ha atrapado del todo, algo normal al ser el primer tomo de está historia. Seguiré leyendo el resto de volúmenes a ver que tal a avanzando.

Голодні вампіри. Люди в пастці на кораблі посеред океану. Звучить чудово. Особливо вибір локації - ще не зустрічала горрорів з вампами на корабліз зомбі читала . Проте реалізація та герої посередні. Були прикольні моменти, як наприклад з браслетами та бассейном, але здебільшого все якось швидко та бліденько, і не в тому напрямку, як хотілося б.
Дочитувати, напевно, не буду. Можу порадити, так, олівчиком, спробувати почитати любителям вампірів.
