After losing her mother in a suspicious accident, teenager Gillian Morrison becomes the center of an unexpected custody battle. When she learns that she’s a shifter, she finds herself adopted by another wolf couple living in Scotland. After moving half a world away, she meets the rest of the pack including Branan Murray, the surprisingly young and handsome Alpha. As the mysteries of her past systematically unfold, she faces the struggles of a teenager learning how to be a wolf all while a powerful enemy hunts her down. Branan Murray has finally settled into his life, regardless of what his parents think. The Alpha of the Brèagha Oidhche Pack in Scotland wants nothing more than to protect his pack and find his mate. When his Beta returns from an overseas trip with his newly adopted daughter, Branan’s need to protect his pack has never been more fierce.
This is one of the most subpar shifter romances I’ve ever read, and I’ve read a lot. How this has above 4 stars on here is beyond me, y’all need to read some good shifter romances apparently.
First off, nothing made sense. Her mom died and she went to court got put into foster care.
She had a super close relationship with the guy who raised her who she called dad, even though he always knew he wasn’t her dad but the second the judge announced he wasn’t her dad he decided he wanted nothing to do with her anymore …. Even though he knew the entire time lol
Ultimately the judges nephew adopts her because everyone knows her bio dad was a powerful shifter except her and the bio dad apparently. As soon as she meets them literally that’s second it’s immediate “this is my daughter” from that couple. Like dude give the girl time to breathe her mom just died, but apparently she doesn’t care.
Then she meets a 22 year old alpha who is her mate… when she’s 15. So the author then makes her get kidnapped for 3 years to come back and be ready to take the mate. That is literally the worst plot ever, what lol
Also, the entire time they switched between like “Scottish” and English, and it was super frustrating because you couldn’t understand what was being said, and it wasn’t real Scottish because it didn’t translate properly lol
I keep forgetting the the name of this author & now this is the 2nd book I just couldn’t finish reading. ****SPOILER ALERT**** *****i forgot the name of the characters***** (h)’s mom’s passed away. She left a will saying who is going to get custody of her Daughter (h). She (h) has a older brother (15yrs older) so according to the will she (h) suppose to stay with the lawyer. So she (h) is 15 yrs old. We can really tell that her dad loves her. So they went to court where the judge will listened to every party & then he will make a decision. He requested DNA test to be done. Come to find out the day who raised her since she was a baby is not even her dad. Once the judge said this all of a sudden the script switches & now dad doesn’t want nothing to do with her.. that was very confusing. Anyways chapters went on & on & she finds out she is a shifter & that her mom might of been murder & that she is in trouble too. The judge has the right person that can adopt her. Some people from Scotland.. by this time I’m aching to find out when is the he (H) going to be introduced. I waited 19 chapters.... 19 long ass chapters! I was already losing interest in this story! So on chapter 19 they introduced him (H) he is an alpha. Now the nxt issue I’m having that actually killed it for me is that they have a very strong accent. They spoke Scottish & that was the end of this book. I don’t like this authors books since it takes chapters after chapters to introduce the main characters (H) which is very annoying.
The storyline flowed and the characters were captivating but the story lacked substance. The mc was 15 year old with the h being 22 when they met. So, instead of building a climatic finish with a kick ass heroine the storyline lost momentum. The heroine was spunky but the things that happened to her was a bit much.
The way the author separated the two characters until the heroine 18 was an easy out. Just get her kidnapped for 2 years to aged the heroine. Flimsy at best. Some writer's can pull it off with actions, steamy time, kick ass heroine with a climatic ending combination but some can't I guess. This one definitely lacked those.
The story had the potential to be great if the heroine character was developed more instead of being one dimensional. This was an okay read with captivating characters but just to pass the time type of book. Last thing, the book cover showed a much older characters than what the story showed.
Wow I am new to this author and I loved this book and what a way to start this series , we have Gillian who is living with her mom and is visiting her dad and step mother , while visiting them she is told her mom has passed and a lawyer is now her guardian until her will has been read, finding out your dad isn't your dad and that you are part shifter would throw anyone but being almost 16 it is life changing, moving to Scotland and finding out your fathers mate is trying to kill you and then your sperm donor kidnaps you til your 18th Birthday and then the Alpha is your mate , what more can a girl take , but Gillian takes it with stride and comes out even better for it.
This book has enjoyable qualities but has some stumbles along the way as well.
I was more interested in the court custody drama that takes up the first half of the book. Though the whole outcome of the custody of the father and brother's reasons for not getting custody is convenient. Her nonbiological father doesn't want her and was forced to truthfully admit he did not want her just keeping up pretenses and the brother has some problems (moral and financial) he can't get her either so to Scotland she goes to a couple wanting a child. Though such a big section of the book it is a quick timeline maybe 2 weeks. Then later in the book, she is abducted it jumps 6 months and then another 1+ years that is not distinctly labeled now she is suddenly days away of 18. The end half is over two years of events but very fast and weirdly formatted.
I also liked Will and his wife so much due to all the time spent in the first half of the book I did not want to leave them and their six rescue dogs.
Her adoptive parents do turn out to be good characters just did not love them as they again are in the other half and she is abducted so they are in half of the later half.
It states in the book multiple times that the mother's death probably was not an accident and it is never returned to or acknowledged what happened. It is left unresolved.
Also when she is introduced to being a shifter the US alpha uses his alpha presence command and she is unaffected yet when Branan does it to her it suddenly she submits. Nah I do not like that.
She is eventually reunited with her family and shifts and realizes the alpha is her mate and though they met and have interacted there was not a lot of time due to all the conflict rogues, Gabrielle, and Davina, abduction, etc to have romantic bonding and I did not like that they were a couple in the end. I wish the book was longer if it wanted to do that or the book was only about a girl finding a family and place to create roots instead. Adding romance IMO that doesn't have the time to build on hurt the book.

For the Love of a Wolf is the first book in the For the Love of a Shifter series by Sunny Mawson.
I didn’t hate this book. It was interesting, to say the least. It just didn’t really click for me. I was happy with the almost HEA Mawson gave us. But all the turmoil the heroine faced was rather annoying. Like ‘here’s a cute happy girl, let’s just bury her in shit’.
Mom dies, brother shows his true egotistical colors, father isn’t father, figures out mom has kept her from shifting since she was six, has to move to Scotland to escape crazy wife of bio dad, gets arm broken hiding from rogues, gets kidnapped by bio dad, held prisoner by bio dad for two years, bio dad puts her on medicine to keep her from shifting, turns out medicine could have killed her wolf, finds out her mate is the alpha of her ‘parents’ pack and hasn’t told her all along.
Great start getting to know Gillian, her horrible brother, father and step mum, even getting to know the Foster parents took almost 50% of the book... then itsas though the old family and friends domt exist..... its only then we meet to her knew adopted parents who ship her off to Scotland and meets her "true mate" he knows she doesn't as she is underage by 2 yrs. As soon as she gets settled like 1 day she is kidnapped and almost 18 months pass, she's back in Scotland, 6 months pass again she then realises the true mate the end.... very rushed ending.
This book was pretty good, but there was some random stuff that seemed pointless and some weird pacing. The first 50% of the book was maybe 2 weeks and 2 years passed in the second half of the book. So it's definitely not a 5 star book, but it was an enjoyable read.
This story has some SERIOUS whiplash!! I really liked the Judge, Will and Jackie. I missed Lucy (the dog) immediately. To go from three parents to no parents to two parents is WILD!!! We spent so much time doing all the things, that ultimately didn’t matter in the long run, because… none of those people ended up mattering. Like it took too long to get to the whole, “you’re a wolf, Gillian”. Then suddenly we’re adopted and on the run!! There was so much build up in the beginning, nothing was skipped to then get to a kidnapping plot- which I hated - and we skip ahead and around but it doesn’t make any sense … cause Gillian is telling us she’s held from 16 until three days shy of her 18th and then in Branan’s pov it’s been 6 months??? How does that make sense?? Is he in the past? If he had so much intel 6 months out? What took so long?! Also, how old are all of these people? Gillian, Branan and Calla’s ages are known and then Sofia’s but everyone else is a GIANT QUESTION MARK!! Why did no one try to stop Davina before she was so evil?! Do I feel bad about Jason?? Probably only in regard to Julian?! Gabriel’s backstory didn’t need to be so sad, and what was the reason, Thomas?! The whiplash!! These poor people finally adopt a child and she’s gone for two years?! So why bother?! Does Gabriel have two forms?? Or was that a typo?? This book had so much potential and then it moved too fast.
Having Gillian be 15 made sense for custody purposes but sucked with a 22 year old mate. Being held until she turned 18 worked for her learning who her mate was. But it was a short book at 272 pages and when so much time is spent at the beginning with the grief, and funeral, the family dynamics and the custody battle (why did we meet that cute kid in the courthouse?), learning about Gabriel and her mother and running… to get to Scotland and it was really a blink and you miss it situation. It really could’ve been a good story if both sections of the story had the same amount of time to express the story.
Taking out Gillian was so anticlimactic, I’m not sure why they even bothered to share it. Did we even find out why she took out Gillian’s mom?!
“Losing my mom, losing all of my family, moving here in a hurry because my evil stepmother was possibly after me, breaking my arm, getting kidnapped, being chased across several countries, and finally watching my biological father die and my best friend fall apart.” <- the whole story.
Like what happened with the rogues?? Why did we meet people that we never saw again?? They were a such big deal at the time and then it amounted to nothing? Like did Gary and Alicia know about wolves?! Why did they call Hector??
They never read the letters left with the will… that I would assume could’ve answered some questions. We never hear anything about Troy again? He just gives up? Why did Alicia react that way in the courtroom? Gary really didn’t want anything to do with the faux daughter?! That change up was crazy and full of whiplash!! I’m not sure how book two could be focused on another couple when this story isn’t over but ok.
This book was given to me as a gift. I can honestly say it's the only reason I read it. There were multiple errors in the book that took away from the reading. The plot itself could have been an entertaining read if it hadn't been written so poorly. The character development was almost nonexistent. It felt very much like the author threw random background at the reader to try and introduce drama, but the problem with this was that there was no attachment to anyone.
Main character's grandmother is hated by everyone, but there's very little reason for it. Her brother seems to be pretty okay at first, but then it's suddenly indicated that he's a piece of shit. Again, almost no context. The man that helped raise her as her dad and that seemed to love her turns on her very suddenly not want anything to do with her. There is no explanation for any of this that is believable and makes sense.
The author would have been better off taking the focus off the main character and rounding out the other players in the story, especially the bad guys who are so one dimensional that every interaction is underwhelming. If she had taken her time and given detail, this could have been two books with a decent plot and entertaining characters. Instead, everything was rushed, dialog was juvenile, and descriptions were next to nonexistent.

Teenaged Gillian Morrison’s life unraveled after her mom died. Gillian lost family, friends and life as she knew it after being the center of a custody battle. Unknown to Gillian’s she’s been surrounded by shifters all her life and with her mother’s death the protection her mother provided but the judge finds the perfect couple to adopt Gillian.
Mere hours ahead of Gillian’s bio-dad (who’s determined to find Gillian to cement his power), his mate’s thugs and his sister (who both want Gillian dead), Gillian’s new adoptive parents are able to spirit her to their home in Scotland where the young Alpha of the clan realizes Gillian is his mate just before she’s kidnapped!
Hmmm, I’m not sure how I feel about this read there are many, many pieces, though the read doesn’t feel disjointed, mayhap it could’ve been more condensed as each section brings in its own characters and seems to complete before going onto the next making things seem related but… Rating: 3.25stars
I have read a lot of shifter books... A LOT of them, and this one did not do anything new for me.
I recommend this book as a dip your toes into the shallow end of the pool if you are new to shifter novels.
If you have read a bunch of shifter novels and are familiar with a lot of the tropes, I would give this one a pass.
Gillian is a fifteen-year-old who has her world turned upside down after her mother's car accident. She learns of her shifter origin and has to navigate learning about who she is all while new enemies creep ever closer to her and her new home.
There was clear foreshadowing throughout this book when it came to its 'twists and turns,' but the big plot moments in the first half still shook me because the author took the time at the beginning of the book to detail and build on Gillian's familial relationships.
I got the small but important moments with her in the car with her Dad and the road trip traditions they created together. I got how she and her stepmother spend the summers together. There were even short references to how she and her brother grew up together and the special tells they each have when they are upset. All of this made me root for Gillian as a character going through grief and navigating her past.
Then the author took a left turn with the gas to the floor...
The pace of the story picked up so quickly and the reader got less and less of the character building. By the time I got to the halfway point, I no longer felt like I knew the characters who had been introduced because they were not fully fleshed out. I didn't get the time to emotionally invest in them because the plot was sped up. The friendship was a FAST friendship to the point I thought it unbelievable. The relationship was FAST and I couldn't figure out why I should be invested in the couple.
I would have preferred some time and depth, especially since this is the first book in a series. The author had time to grow the story and honestly split this first one into more than one book.
I will be continuing the series, but I hope to get more character development for the next couple.
3 things bugged me about this book. 1) I felt completely mislead about 2 characters in the book that never appeared after the first few chapters. Her dad and her brother initially appeared to be decent and caring and all of a sudden they completely flipped. Didn't make sense to me. 2) The lapse of time that occurred between her kidnapping and return. 3) There was no real description provided for Gillian, just snips here and there.
And let me add one more thing, 4) Many of the "adult" characters acted in an extremely juvenile manner.
Amateur writing at best. The MFC was slightly annoying and everything felt so rushed and forced. The story just didn’t have a nice pace. Then when she finally gets to Scotland, they say the Alpha is 22 but then immediately say “he got here two years ago when he was 15 or 16”… like someone’s math isn’t adding up there. And bro! She’s only 15!! A 15 y/o dating a 22 y/o??!!! Ew!!!!!! Get out. That was the final straw and I quit.
You ever read a book and your like oooh this is so good I’ll probably be my favorite book for the year? I would say this book definitely has that. I love the buildup, the story telling, but then I think toward the end it was rushed for an ending. I would have loved to see more of the MC and her relationship with her new parents grow, and with other characters in the story and not skipped ahead a few years. But overall a great book
This is the first book I've read by this author and I have to say I was quite pleased. I've been reading for years and this one of the genres love. This story was perfect. It had plenty of adventure and lots of big strong men. And it ended up in Scotland, a place I have always wanted to visit. I would recommend this book to anyone who lives a good clean romance.
I must say when I started reading this book, I thought it would end up being a typical arrogant-werewolf-mated-to-bratty-teenager but this book really surprised me. The first half of her struggles and then how it took time to get her back made it refreshingly different for me. Loved the main characters and the plot.
Loved the plot and characters but felt like more time could have been taking developing the flow of the story. It felt very rushed at alot of times. But the plot was really interesting but left me woundering why Gill's fake dad just gave up on her and what happened to her family and people from America.
So the title looks exciting and the Summary seems great. By the 14th chapter she still isnt in scotland and hasnt met Alpha branan. They are mainly just fillers. And by the 30th chapter there is hardly any romance between the two. I think the only thing that saved this book was the action and drama other than that it was pretty meh
This book had the potential to be great. Just needs to be fleshed out a bit more. This first 50% of the book was about Gillians time in the states. And then the second half of the book was just rushed. In the first half, we met many characters, many of which were pointless because they weren’t even present in the second half. Great premise, just needs a little help on the execution.
This story could be so much better with some editing! Based on the title, I expect the story to have romance. I'm guessing it does, but I got 50% through (ok, 47%) and we still hadn't met the love interest. The first 25% or so of the story could just not exist. There were also a lot of little details that were inconsistent and/or confusing.
The writing was good , so was the plot . Good story with a strong main female lead . 30% of the book is her back story so don't expect much excitement there. The only confusing part in that was at the start you don't get the impression that her brother is that horrible but then he gets portrayed as awful plus didn't expect that twist. Good story all and all.
The storyline and characters were good but that was it. I personal felt the book was rushed. So many on answered questions. I wish the author had taken more time to develop the story.
I love this story. I was introduced to the story by my mother and I really like the progression of the story it wasn't long and drawn-out but it was also not too short either.
It was an okay story. Some things were dragged out and it felt like there was crazy drama added to complete the storyline. It dragged out and then the action parts were short. It was a great start but probably won’t read anything else from series.
Apparently I was supposed to know all these characters. Nothing bothers me more than to know a couple is together in one book, but their story is after. I got hung up waiting for the boy she gave her number too, to pop up. Why put that in there? Mediocre.
Really enjoyed the characters and the story. Was hoping for more action, and the writing skipped around every once in while, so there were moments where I kinda said "Huh". But for a YA book, it kept my attention.
