Fae exist only in stories told to children, or so I thought.
That was before I woke up with a seven-pointed star branded into the flesh of my inner wrist.
You see, everything changed when a nightmarish creature of the Fae Realm dropped into my life like a bad ex-boyfriend. He claimed the mark on my skin signified my magical lineage, the bit of DNA my mother passed down and never thought to mention before disappearing a decade ago.
Now, he was here to collect her descendant-and the options were me-or my baby sister.
There was no way in hell I would let Ava get wrapped in something like this, so I step up. Days after I arrive in the Fae Realm, I'm thrown into a series of trials titled 'The Devotion'. An extremely elevated, and beyond twisted dating game of sorts, the Fae use to wed off their royalty. I'm not interested in being anyone's forced-bride, so I'll do what I can to bide my time until I can haul ass out of here.
Now, no-magic-me, is supposed to compete with demons, vampires, elves, and more, who want to claim their place at the future king's side. I have no interest in this guy, but it doesn't help that the king-to-be is a gorgeous, brooding fae, named Rowan Blaive. He's dominant, commanding, and everything I shouldn't want.
But the longer I'm here, the more I'm questioning everything-including my own heart.
A sexy new fantasy series perfect for fans of: Sarah J Maas, Holly Black, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Elise Kova and Amelia Hutchins!
VS Winters writes your favorite kind of heart-wrenching romance.
All her books are filled with mystery, intrigue, passion and of course, magic! She spends most of her free time attached to her kindle or playing elder scrolls. Her books include fae, vampires, shifters, and so much more!
I almost dnf halfway through but figured I would push through. The plot has potential but it seems rushed. The mmc & mfc go from hating each other to wanting each other sexually but nothing happens to cause that other than the fact that they are physically attracted to each other. Once she gets to the fae realm, her dad & sister are an after thought for majority of the book. The plot of 'kidnapped to participate in a "deadly" game to win the hand of a price' is a bit over done but I gave it a chance (there was nothing excitingabout this element). There really wasn't a point for the trials since the mfc was already wanting her before the trials even started.

A cute story. Not really what I was expecting, and not particularly my cup of tea! But I think it would be the right genre for some… I prefer darker romance, and I feel like this was *trying* to get there. Like maybe a step beyond ACOTAR. Or on par even.
The story felt a little rushed, but it is a short read. I struggled with the male narrator in the audiobook but I try not to hold that to the author.
Slowish burn. A damsel in distress trope to a degree.
I listened to the audio version of this book, only thing I didn’t like was that the female narrator sounded way too young for the fmc. In my opinion she needed to sound a little older. But overall I enjoyed the story.
I loved how we get to see as readers how her mother's death impacts as a small child. Her entire childhood changed because she absorbed some of her mother's roles like looking after tom and Ava. She also decided to participate in the trails in order to spare her sister. She was also in charge of taking care of the house and the bills.
