Summer Heat #3

In Trouble with Him

Rate this book
Meeting a hot professor at my best friend's wedding has hookup written all over it.

Dammit it if he isn’t unexpectedly charming, making me want to abandon one-night stand plans for something more.

But dammit again if he doesn’t run off mid-kiss like a fugitive from Cinderella’s pumpkin coach.

That’s because he’s got a curfew as part of his house arrest for insider trading. Oh well, I’ll never see him again anyway.

Except that he shows up at my office—at my new job where I’ve just been made a law partner.

Turns out, he’s my newest client and he may be guilty of all kinds of things. Not the least of which is stealing my heart.

Is falling for him just asking for trouble?

This is Book 3 in the Summer Heat series but it is a *complete standalone*

Stacy Travis writes charming, spicy romance about bookish, sassy women and the hot alphas who fall for them.

Writing makes her infinitely happy, but that might be the coffee talking. She drinks a LOT of it.

She's worked as a journalist, camp counselor, TV writer, SAT tutor, corporate finance researcher, education technology editor, and non-fiction author. When she's not on a deadline, she's in running shoes complaining that all roads seem to go uphill. Or on the couch with a margarita. Or fangirling at a soccer game.

She's never met a dog she didn't want to hug. And if you have no plans for Thanksgiving, she'll probably invite you to dinner.

Stacy lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two sons, and a poorly-trained rescue dog who hoards socks. And she's serious about the Thanksgiving thing.

When the best kiss of her life ends up as her client, Annie's justifiably a bit flustered. Finn had been the best part of that wedding, then he disappeared right after the kiss. Now he turns up at her new law firm asking for representation? Um...

But Annie's not only an amazing lawyer, but she has a heart as big as the sky, so of course she can't not do her best job representing him in this case. The only question now is if they can keep their hands off each other, not cross those professional lines.

This is a seriously sweet, low angst story and Finn and Annie are adorable together.

Finn & Annie meet when they’re both apart of their friend’s wedding. Annie expected to have a one night stand with a random guy she met, but what she didn’t expect was to be blown away by ultra-hot & extremely smart professor, Finn. But like Cinderella, Finn disappears in the night before Annie could seal the deal, let alone get his phone number. And Annie never expected to see Finn again.

Until she has a meeting at her law firm first thing Monday morning and low & behold, her new client is none other than Finn, who is being wrongly accused of insider trading. And now it’s up to Annie to not only prove Finn’s innocence, but keep her hands off the one man she doesn’t want to resist.

In Trouble with Him by Stacy Travis was previously book 3 in the Summer Heat series, but is now book 1 in her Berkeley Hills series. After reading about Finn’s 4 sisters in the Berkeley Hills series, I was dying for his romance. By the time I read about his sister, he was already with Annie, but I didn’t feel too spoiled by their pop-ins here & there. One thing I love about Stacy’s books is how career-driven her heroines are. They are some badass women & Annie is no exception. The chemistry between her & Finn was great, too. Definitely recommend! 4/5 stars.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC. I enjoyed the electric sexual intensity between and Annie and Finn. Stacy Travis did amazing job weaving in some important societal themes, including sexism in the workplace and workplace jealousy. It was a refreshing and fun HEA.

In Trouble with Him is a good time. A chance meeting and attraction that sizzles in the moment. They part, only to be thrown together again in another chance collision. This time they run into each other in their real life. Now the dance begins. Sit back with your G and T and enjoy.

**SO EXCITED TO FOR YOU TO READ THIS BOOK!**

What would you do if you met a great guy who gave you the best kiss of your life and then ran off without an explanation or even a last name?

If you're Annie Prescott, driven lawyer who doesn't have time for heartbreak, you go to work on Monday and try to forget he existed. Easier said than done when he ends up being your new client and he has more persuasive arguments than your legally-trained mind can fend off... oh, and he's got a profile that looks like it's been chiseled from a rock. Sigh...

I love this story because I relate to the heroine who's trying to crush the glass ceiling and is almost willing to give up everything to do it... even love. But can she? And should she have to? Should any of us?

In Trouble with Him is a complete standalone, though it's also book 3 in the Summer Heat series.

In Trouble With Him is a sweet and unexpected surprise. This slow burn romance is filled with smart, witty banter and just a touch of drama to keep you intrigued. When Annie and Finn, the two main characters, meet at a wedding they feel an instant attraction and spend the evening together, getting to know each other. Unfortunately Finn runs off unexpectedly, without getting Annie’s number, leaving them wondering if they’ll ever run into each other again. Luckily for us they do, but it’s under inauspicious circumstances that complicate things just a little. This standalone is the third book in the Summer Heat series.

“Hope is something you hold in your hand like a sand dollar, praying you can carry it home without breaking it.”

Annie Prescott moved to LA to become a partner at a new law firm after being overlooked at the firm she’d been with for seven years in San Francisco. It worked out perfectly; she could attend her college friend’s wedding there after settling into her new apartmaent and job. Things started looking up at the wedding reception when she met a handsome, smart and intriguing older man and they spent a few hours getting to know each other, deciding to only tell each other their first names and no personal information. Sparks flew until he realized what time it was and left after a hurried goodbye, before they could exchange numbers.

“I loved his vocabulary. Before I collected my wits and formulated a response, I realized I was grinning at him like a linguistics groupie.”

Norman “Finn” Finley had been under house arrest but had recently gotten a reprieve from a judge and was allowed to attend a friend’s wedding; he just had to make sure he got home in time, since he was still being monitored. At the wedding he met a beautiful young woman and was instantly attracted to her, only to realize he didn't have a way to contact her after running off to make his curfew. Finn worked as a tenured college professor and economist and had been charged with securities fraud, accused of insider trading, by a whistleblower. Finn knew he wasn't guilty; the brilliant professor had spent years working on collecting and analyzing data to make investments, and the investments had made him a wealthy man. But when a colleague accused him of illegal activity, he needed to prove his innocence, without revealing all his secrets.

What are the chances that Annie will be Finn’s new attorney? Exactly! This is where the action picks up, so get comfy and enjoy the excitement.

Annie has been thinking about Finn, the hot stranger she hooked up with at her friend's wedding, all weekend. So when she walks into a meeting at her new job on Monday morning and learns that Finn is the professor she's defending for insider trading, she's awestruck. Meanwhile, Finn can't believe that he's again crossed paths with the fabulous woman he hasn't been able to stop thinking of while under house arrest. Is it fate? Or is a romantic relationship forbidden as attorney and client?

This story was all kinds of fun. I loved the instant connection between Finn and Annie. I loved how they tried to "get it out of their system" with the in-depth fantasy description that SO didn't work! I loved how he calmed her down when she began to word vomit, and how she made him realize that a life of data and figures without anyone to share it with was a lonely one. These two had so much heat, and so much passion. He is the ultimate sexy nerd, and Annie is a kick-ass lawyer with a huge heart.

In Trouble With Him is a pretty low-angst story; there is no big drama surrounding Finn and Annie as a couple other than the SEC suit she is representing him in. After that initial wedding hookup, this book turns into a slow-burn romance with lots of date-type client meetings until Finn and Annie finally explode and can't take the sexual tension that's brewing between them any longer.

Now I totally wish I'd read the Summer of Him duet (Nikki and Chris' story), so I need to go back and check those out while I wait for Finn's sisters to get their series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

I just fall into Stacys books and the only problem is I read them too quickly! It was great reading Finn and a Annie’s growing relationship. A really feel good story that leaves you smiling and making your husband concerned as you start giving him adoring looks.
Looking forward to reading Finn’s sisters stories as they seem to have interesting personalities introduced in this book. Great romance / holiday read.

This was my first book from this author and it was good. The story between Annie and Finn is based on a deep connection they have to one another not just a physical attraction. Cinderella in the male form has to leave before breaking curfew, leaving Annie to wonder what happened. Chance circumstances bring them back together and the connection grows stronger. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.

Good characters and good plot but… ..
3,5
I found the characters good as well as the plot, but although the start was quite fast, with pace, then I found it a bit too slow after an exciting start.
At the beginning, I loved Annie who from the prologue recounts her teenage past where she was educated with the image of the cheereleader whose ultimate goal is to go out with the quarterback in deep America, until about going to college and discovering the power of her brain and of herself relegating male chauvinism is something that she will not accept despite a very masculine working world for her branch. This prologue is excellent and mouth watering, as well as his meeting with Finn afterwards.

Wow, this series just keeps getting better and better. The connection that these two have is undeniable.
I finished this book before I realized what was happening because I was just so glued to it wanting to know what happens in the end. There was a lot of sarcasm between the two which was nice because it had me smiling the whole way through the book till they get there HEA.

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

One of my favorite parts about writing is the growth of the writer as they generate writing. When I was first introduced to Stacy Travis, I had signed up for an ARC of her first romance book, French Kiss. And while I enjoyed her details of France, I struggled with the chemistry between her hero and heroine in that book. It felt manufactured to me, and my review reflected that. Fast forward to her newest book, In Trouble with Him. What her first book lacked, this book has in spades. Billed as a forbidden romance, Annie is an attorney hired to fight a court case brought against the enigmatic, acutely handsome Finn, a professor who has been accused of insider trading when he consulted with various companies. His talent in understanding the stock market nets him a huge paycheck, and Annie must prove that it is his ability as an economics talent that earned it for him. Unfortunately, Annie and Finn have met previously at a mutual friend’s wedding, and their interest in each other from that moment feels undeniable. However, since Annie is his lawyer, this complicates their want to be a couple. However, their chemistry flies off the page, and you yearn for these two to figure out a way to be together.

I love how Stacy Travis has grown her ability to generate chemistry for her characters. It is undeniable with Finn and Annie. Along with their chemistry, there is a camaraderie between these two. You absolutely root for them hard, but be prepared for a serious slow burn here. Their banter is their foreplay, and it takes a while for them to finally acknowledge their fire.

Integrated into this romance is a story that compels you forward too. Travis has carefully woven in ideas about representation for women in the legal world. Annie’s backstory illustrates the difficulties that women endure in finding a job based on their ability, not just their gender. Additionally, Travis points to difficulties in the academic world. When Finn’s job is threatened by a peer, Travis shows the tenuous nature of collegial relationships. There is a competition to achieve and publish that oftentimes muddies relationships with colleagues.

Beyond that, this story has family. Finn is the only male in a family of independent females. To underscore the pro-woman aspects of this book i.e. Annie’s journey, Finn’s mother and sisters show how to raise a feminist male in a character such as Finn. So interspersed with a book of romance with two characters so suited to each other is a bigger discussion of feminism.

All of these attributes conspire to offer a story where Finn and Annie’s story feels important. Not only does it challenge our thinking, but it also titillates and plays your heartstrings. Like I said at the beginning of this review, I love the evolution of an author, and, as far as I’m concerned, Stacy Travis’s In Trouble with Him is an indication that she is indeed shooting for the romance stars.

A talented lawyer watches the tall handsome stranger she just met at her friend's wedding flee Cinderella style into the night not knowing she is going to see him again Monday morning in her office.

Annie just moved to LA from San Francisco after being passed over for partner in her former firm. Choosing a new start in a new city where her best friend Nikki lives means everything is different. At Nikki's wedding she meets Finn, who sweeps her off her feet. Thinking she might take him home with her for the night, she is shocked when he abruptly leaves the wedding without numbers exchanged. By Monday morning she is still thinking of the charming man and is even more shocked to see him in her board room as their new client.

Finn is a brilliant professor who has spent the past ten years perfecting a theory that could mean the Nobel Prize in Economics. To test his theory he applied his theories to the stock market and took home a large investment. Now his former colleague is suing him for insider trading and the SEC is involved. Despite being on house arrest he is allowed to attend his dear friend's wedding where he sees a woman that takes his breath away. After spending the evening falling under her spell, he realizes he needs to leave her before he is ready to say goodbye.

Neither one was able to forget the other in the days following. So when they see each other again under completely different circumstances, both are shocked. Annie is assigned to Finn as his lawyer immediately making their shared chemistry complicated in a professional setting. Annie tries to hand off the case to another partner but Finn specifically wants her to represent him. As the days go by, Annie learns more about Finn's situation and innocence. Finn fights his attraction to Annie for a brief amount of time before deciding he wants to be with her. Finn's strong relationship with his mom and sisters gives him the incentive to want Annie to succeed and him a reason to fight for his case. As the two work together Finn brings out a need for Annie to change how she views her work ethic for the better. He is so many ways a perfect teammate for Annie. But if they begin a relationship could it jeopardize her newly acquired position as partner?

Dual POV, forbidden romance, spicy

This story is complicated for me. I loved the meet cute and reverse gender Cinderella moment. Their chemistry and tension is just right. My issue is the messy complications of the two beginning a relationship despite it potentially being a threat to Annie's job. Yes, a special exemption is made and included as a detail but Annie tries so hard to resist Finn and he won't stop pushing the boundaries. That being said, Finn is still a great MMC, even though he is a little too perfect at times. Their ending came quickly and I would have liked more content of them happy together without the pressure between them. Nice HEA and Epilogue.

PHEW! Today has been BUSY! But I’m finally getting a chance to sit down and write this review and let me start off by saying you’re gonna want to read it. You know those books that are just enjoyable? Well, this is one of them!

I went into this story expecting to enjoy it, but I didn’t expect to fall in love with the characters as much as I did. They just really drew me into the story and made me so invested in what was going to happen next. Plus I just extra loved our powerhouse of a heroine and all she stood for. But out of all of this it was really just a clever story that worked and flowed so well.

Remember how I’ve repeatedly said how much I enjoyed this book? Well, it’s true. SO when you read it make sure you’re prepared to devour this and not want to set it down. My favorite set up is a bunch of blankets, some fur babies, and a nice hot chocolate.

You can view my full review on my blog! I also post about a lot of different types of books!

In Trouble with Him was a instant attraction between Annie and Finn. It was filled with witty intelligent banter, sexual chemistry, quirky real characters and real life situations. I loved the banter between Annie and Finn right from the first meeting at the wedding. This chance meeting now leads to an unexpected collision of their worlds. Now Annie must rely on her instinct and knowledge to navigate the new trouble that she finds herself in with Finn.
Finn is an eccentric brilliant college economics professor that has found himself in quite the personal predicament. His knowledge instinct and intuition has landed him in a bit of hot water. He also had met the most intriguing and interesting woman to cross his path in like forever. Now she stands before him in a quite different capacity and he will let her work her magic while he still shows her that she is more valuable to him in all realms of his world than just business . I loved watching them navigate their personal , working and intimate relationship to make it blossom for them!

Loved this book!

I did not know what to expect with this one, since I don’t really know this author and there was no description of the plot anywhere that I saw. I took a chance and put it on my kindle, and was really glad I did. This is the story of 2 lonely workaholic people that discover each other at a mutual friend’s wedding, hit it off and ‘almost’ hook up, but don’t. Neither of them even knows the other’s last name, but they both spend an inordinate amount of time thinking of the other one for several weeks until fate intervenes and they meet again in her office (she is an attorney) when he is charged with a white collar crime (he is innocent of course) and she agrees to represent him. It is a unique plot and very well written. Their futile attempts to maintain a professional attorney-client relationship are hilarious. They just can’t do it. The characters were very lovable and relatable. Read it. You won’t be sorry!

I was given this book as an ARC to read and provide a review. It is written in first person, which I like. It is really single plot line, not a lot of stories going on at once. The story focuses on the main characters. They meet under circumstances where most women would just write him off. It is a reverse Cinderella story, which only intrigues our Annie more. She is driven, methodical, and rooted in being successful. Finn on the other hand, but is about data and principle. I think they find out they have more in common than one would think from the surface. I would say this book is a slow burn that gets hot and steamy but not overly graphic. There is a lot of sarcastic banter--I like sarcasm so it had me smiling. It is a story that affirms to not always just a book by its cover. If you are a Stacy Travis fan, it won't disappoint you.

I enjoyed the unique storyline of how the author brings these two characters together. Annie and Finn meet at her besties wedding until he disappears Cinderella style.
When she finds out why and how she will be working with him to help solve his problem their story takes off. I enjoyed these characters, their dialogue and the author creates a credible tale. I enjoyed my first read and will be read more. I am volunteering to leave a review for this book

This was a delightful read!

Annie and Finn had amazing chemistry from the time they met at a wedding and their banter was incredible. You like them both individually and definitely root for them as a couple.

Finn is just a green flag bouquet and somehow just keeps getting better throughout the book. Annie is highly intelligent, caring and kindhearted. There is not very much spice in this book but the love story is still well done and was a thoroughly enjoyable read

This was a simple story. There was one storyline going and not a lot of angst. The main plot was waiting for the hero's trail to be over so the Annie and Finn can date. The book started off with a bang out of the gate but then got bland and hard to keep my attention.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

This was a cute romance with an HEA. It wasn't painful to finish, but it didn't draw me in so much that I forgot everything else around me. There was a decent level of steaminess with zero angst. A nice romantic read to pass time, but not one that will remain etched in my brain.

Slow burn
Slow burn. She's trying to find her place in her profession and advancing due to her merit. Nothing will stand in her way. Or will it? He's being falsely accused but can he focus on his case more than the counsel?

Not as good as I thought based on reviews

Trying to read my way through the lawyer parts was a slog. It was so hard to keep my eyes open during this and to get to the romance parts. I found it very dull and boring. The romance was cute, but not worth the rest of the story
