Hunter McCloud is the wildest cowboy of all…until he meets the one woman even more untamed than him…

After growing up around Hunter McCloud, Elsie Garrett considers herself immune to his particular brand of cowboy. Her brother’s best friend is too big, too broad, too everything for comfort. But when relationship-shy Elsie decides it’s finally time for her to get some romantic experience, Hunter suddenly might be useful after all. Maybe he, with his many casual hookups, is the perfect cowboy to teach her how to flirt?

Elsie is the best horse wrangler around, but Hunter can see she doesn’t know anything about men—orphaned as a child and brought up by her brothers, she’s so wild she’s practically feral. But Hunter has always looked out for her, and he’s not about to stop now. Until Hunter realizes he’s playing with fire. Elsie might not understand the chemistry slowly building between them, but he does, and it’s burning stronger and hotter than anything he’s ever experienced. And when Elsie decides to act on it, Hunter knows that it could threaten to consume them both.

In the bonus novella Her Wayward Cowboy, can a returning cowboy win back the love of the woman he left behind?

Teach me baby! I love a teach me trope where the hot sexy wanted by every woman Cowboy falls extremely hard for the heroine…who is a virgin. I just love Four Corners Ranch and all these rough, deeply wounded characters in need of heart healing that comes in the form of love. Watching these mental generational curses become dust and reading it as it’s alive on the page is so dang good. I’m addicted to this series.

Maisey Yates used to be my palette cleanser while reading YA and it's been a while since I've read any of her books.

I liked Elsie and Hunter. They have history and a good amount of familial trauma...which is brought up a lot a lot a lot. I do like this group of characters and ranch setting, so it was fun being back in this world.

Plot wise, it was mostly good. The majority of the book felt like inner monologue (mostly about the familial trauma) and it did get repetitive having each of the characters consistently repeat the same sentences throughout the story.

Overall, it was a quick read and I always forget how much I enjoy the older brother's best friend trope.

**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**

Fun adult romance. Easy read. I won’t rate it though b/c it wasn’t necessarily well written, but a quick good palette cleanser that I needed.

There is something about a cowboy - especially one written by Maisey Yates - that is so compelling. Cowboy Wild has that cowboy. Hunter McCloud is a hot unmarried cowboy who seems to have it all. Being a part of the McCloud family means there were some difficult times in his past.

Elsie Garrett loves everything about horses. She is a strong horsewoman and works on the McCloud’s Ranch. She wants to try to move into new experiences ( i.e. boyfriend, kissing, maybe even sex), but with her two older brothers and working with cowboys, her options are extremely limited.

Elsie and Hunter have never even considered each other as a partner, until they do and then it is all they can think about. I love how Hunter wanted Elsie to have some really new and special events in her life to remember. I love how prickly Elsie could get (although the poker game was too much). I also enjoyed how uncomfortable they both became with each other as they tried to get through the mind fields of each other and their family.

For some reason, probably Maisey’s great writing, I am really enjoying the novels in this series, the Four Corners Ranch. I enjoy how the ranches understand how they need to bond together to help each survive. I like how they are willing to share knowledge and help each other by listening and offering help.

Cowboy Wild by Maisey Yates is a great read!

This was cute and the first half I ate up but the second half dragged on to its inevitable HEA. I felt like it was supposed to be dramatic and lovey but it felt dragged out, saying the same things over and over.

I was pulling my hair out having to hear how Elsie “was born in a barn and left there.” Homie, I heard you. Please.

This by far what is my favorite book in the series. It had that great Maisey Yates flair, that I love and adore, along with a little bit of a more slower burn format, which absolutely okay with and was the reason I loved it so much. I could gush so hard on this one, because it was that fantastic. It just had all the feels that I was looking for in a romance, along with great familial, bonds, and relationships shown throughout the story.

The way that the romance was built, was perfection, and I liked how it was more about them becoming aware of each other slower, and realizing that there was more than what they initially thought. I liked seeing them, have that awareness and come to terms with it slowly, but once they went in, they went all in, especially Hunter.

The way that Hunter adored and cared for Elsie was perfection. He worships the ground. She walked on and vowed to give her everything that she deserved and more. He wanted to make things special for her, and he did sell in an incredible fashion. He just wanted everything for her and he gave it to her in spades. He loved her so much, and was willing to do anything to make her happy. I loved Hunter so so much.

I loved those “date“ scenes that were the tipping off point to them, realizing that they had feelings for each other. They also had the dance scenes that gave a hint of what was to come between them passionately. There was the love scene that was all about the romance, which I appreciate it so much. I loved the intimacy behind it And so much more.

I loved how they talk to each other and reveal their past hurts to each other without pulling teeth. They just did so naturally, because of the level of caring that they had between each other and they wanted to tell each other what they had been through and supported each other through their stories. It was heartbreaking to see their trauma, but yet get healed by it through their love for one another.

There were just so many romantic gestures and beautiful moments between them that showed how much they loved each other. They were just really so many great moments between Hunter and Elsie, that it was hard to pick a favorite and there’s so many more than I missing that that I didn’t even mention that just really made me love the story all the more. It was great, and I hope Maisey does more of this slow burn format in the future because it was a really fantastic.

I can’t wait to read Helena and Gus‘s story coming next, especially with all the back beds to come.

I guess I will stop reading Maisey Yates. I have always loved her books but the self analyzing goes on forever so it seems like she is just trying to add to her word count rather than the story.

Hunter McCloud and Elsie Garrett were made for each other. Both had bad childhood experiences but they always managed to find each other in the tough times.

It was just okay. The writing seemed unfinished and just wasn't the best. I felt like there were introductions to side characters that didn't really do anything and there was a lot in this book that was just filler.

I’ve been open about my growing dissatisfaction with this author lately. But this book is an example of why I can’t just up and quit her. It’s not perfect, but it’s really good. I used to be able to rely on her books to be 4 stars or above and that is just not the case anymore. I’ve discussed before how wordy things have gotten and how in the head of the characters she gets, to the detriment of the connections between characters. Yet there’s often a lot of great stuff between that lengthy prose.

This is a brother’s best-friend romance as well as a sort of enemies to lovers. Though Elsie and Hunter aren’t ever enemies, they have always razzed each other and wouldn’t necessarily be considered friends…until now. Elsie is on a mission to get some real-life experience with flirting, dating, and even having sex. She sets her sights on a temporary ranch hand who Hunter knows is trouble. When he catches onto Elsie’s intentions he intervenes and it turns into him giving her lessons which, of course, turns into them realizing they have feeling for each other.

Elsie’s decision-making skills aren’t always the best. She’s mostly a likable character, but she hurts someone very close to her with her secrets and lies when she could have easily avoided the blow-up that would eventually happen. While her reasoning makes sense to a point, she went beyond that point and made it so I wasn’t thrilled with how things played out.

A great thing about this story is Hunter’s and Elsie’s ability to talk to each other. A lot of the stuff the author generally has going on in the heads of her characters was being verbalized between the couple. It helped me to see their relationship grow in a more understandable way. There is still a bit too much repetition of their inner reflections, but it was barely a blip. I enjoyed their chemistry and the reactions of their families as things were playing out.

There is something I feel I must bring up that, although I am not going to change my rating because of it, significantly affected my reading pleasure. This story is poorly edited when it comes to punctuation and continuity. Some sentences just don’t make sense. I try not to hold things that are obviously editing mistakes against the author or the book, but it was prevalent enough in this book I felt it was worth a mention for the sake of those who are going to spend money on the book.

Elsie Garret was always the baby of the Garrett clan. Her brothers loved her, helped raise her along with the other men on the Four Corners Ranch. She was born in a barn and left in the hay by her mother who was tired of being pregnant and having children to clean up after. Her father was only interested in the children doing his work while he drank. He beat his wife until one day she left, leaving Sawyer and Wolf to take care of the ranch and Elsie. They could suffer from his drinking and ugly, nasty self. At 24 years, she decided it was time to find someone to help her become the woman she was. She could enjoy life despite the ugly memories. The Sullivan families had an open door for her and the other in the Four Corners. Elsie was a true horsewoman. She learned her trade from the McClouds, especially Hunter. Now she was helping set up the ranch for McClouds Landing to become a center for equine therapy. Gus, the eldest McCloud brother was spot on when he hired her to help with clients and train horses. She worked with Hunter on a daily basis. Although he was truthful, handsome and an incredible man, she thought of him as a brother until the night at the bar when another cowboy asked her to dance and became a bit too friendly for Hunter’s liking.
Cowboy Wild will be published by Harlequin on February 21, 2023. I am appreciative of their allowing me to read Maisey Yates latest in the Four Corner Ranch series via NetGalley. She has the ability to give her characters honest, expressive thoughts and feelings. Both Hunter and Elsie suffered a childhood of being neglected and shunned by their parents. Each kept the loss of love tucked away inside only for it to creep out in their dreams.
Cowboy Wild is an excellent story of family and the capability to circle their siblings with love and understanding. Four Corners is an outstanding series with Cowboy Wild being an enchanting story. Do Enjoy!

My ratings:
Cowboy Wild ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½🤠 🐎
Her Wayward Cowboy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😣🤠

My thoughts: 🔖Page 25 of 321/417 Ch. 2 - This is weird.
🔖235 Ch. 15 - I was thinking about quitting the series after this one but it has changed my mind. Even though it has a lot of the same themes on repeat, this one has good tension.

Cowboy Wild - I don't know why the epilogues always go a few books ahead. I could guess who the friend ended up with. I appreciate the music mentioned and the banter of the characters. There were some inconsistencies so not quite 5-star.

Her Wayward Cowboy - This story was enjoyable but I couldn't figure out which fairytale was used, maybe none. 13 was a bit too young and unbelievable.

I was not expecting to like these stories to be this good. I'm going to continue, maybe one book a week or something.

Recommend to others: Yes, this was one of the better stories in the series.

Elsie has never considered Hunter as more than a brother, having been raised by her brothers, working on the ranch, she believes she’s completely immune to the charm of their best friend. But when a night out with her friend leaves her realizing that she’s ready for some sort of romance – and she realizes she knows absolutely nothing about men – she turns to the one person who can help her capture the eye of a farm hand she has her eyes set on. Hunter agrees to help teach Elsie how to flirt, but soon it becomes clear that he has bitten off more than he can chew as lessons turn into something real, and when the lines between friends begin to blur, they find themselves unable to walk away from each other.

This was so sweet and full of great banter. I loved the dynamic between Elsie and Hunter from the very beginning, and this was no exception. I love that he continues to call her pet names of animals because this girl is feral as hell. I also love how he comes to realize that he has feelings for her when he looses his ish and goes wild when she tells him she’s going out to purposely flirt with someone and try and go home with them because he’s all like OH HELL NO. I love the dynamic between them – the little sister X brother’s best friend, but the two of them never looked at each other in that way before this moment. Overall, I loved this. It was cute and sweet, and I love the healing journey for both characters.

My cowboy brought this book home for me after picking up feed from UFA as my “treat”. 😆

Busy brained. That’s how I would describe the writing style of this novel. There are plenty of thoughts whirling round in both Hunter and Elsie’s minds that the author shares. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing at times as I already contend with my own busy brain - it does make many moments dizzy.

I found it distracting how many sentences began with the articles BUT, AND or BECAUSE. More than 1 page had 8+ such starts. It took away from the story for me. I’m sure smoother mood and flow would have allowed for cheekier enjoyment.

Other bothersome inconsistencies like:

* I’m Not sure how she was able to have a quick change from the red dress she was in at the bar., Given she rushed away in her truck & he met her directly at the cabin straight after she closed the door. Yet was depicted wearing jeans and t-shirt when he helped her undress. 🤔

That being said; I will most likely pick up the earlier stories in this series as the characters were likeable. While hoping the next 3 are edited better.

Another in the Four Corners Ranch series, in which youngest son, Hunter McCloud, is preparing to expand the herd of therapy horses with the help of Elsie Garrett, who's been a pain in his ass her whole life. But what do they say about hate? How much it is like love?

These two have issues that have insulated them from getting into any kind of relationship, knowing it will never last. But that's before Elsie decides she's tired of being a virgin and wants to hook up with someone (anyone?) who can help her out. Hunter knows that's a bad idea, so he eases into offering to help her learn how to flirt, only to discover that he doesn't want her to hook up with anyone, unless that person is him. Shock!

But can he convince her of that and if he does, will that also be the end of their partnership in training the horses that make up what his ranch is planning? Talk about needing therapy!

Hunter McCloud and Elsie Garrett have always been at each other's throats; they goad, tease, challenge, and work with each other. There families are practically connected and they are lifelong friends. But Elsie's a woman now and has decided that she wants to learn all about attracting a man. Knowing Hunter's reputation, she asks him for lessons in getting a man interested in her. What they didn't count on was the lessons becoming personal and just who each of them would be attracting.

Bonus novella: Her Wayward Cowboy
Arizona King had loved and lost...a lot, thirteen years ago. When a teenage boy shows up at the King ranch all those years later wanting work, she sees the spitting image of her cowboy. Micah Stone's returned, chasing after his wayward son, and Arizona has decisions to make.

I love the Four Corners series and hope there are many more books to come!
Elsie is a rough and tumble gal and having her sparring nemesis Hunter coach her on how to flirt is hilarious. Because I knew what would happen. Both scarred from damaged childhoods, they are so alike. Hunter slips over the edge but it takes some more convincing for Elsie to follow. I loved how vulnerable Hunter allowed himself to be, despite his walls. Only Hunter could get away with referring to her as a varmint as he’s declaring his love—- that was quite humorous.
I am patiently waiting for Gus and to see who will win his heart. My heart goes out it him in each Four Corners book.
Thanks to NetGalley and HTP for the advance copy.

Elsie and Hunter have been friends since they were young! They work together on Hunter's ranch getting horses ready to help these that need help.

Elsie wants Hunter's help in learning how to flirt. what turns out as fun turns into something more.

They both have had rough childhoods and when together they spill to each other things that happened to them as they grew up. They have not talked to others, even their siblings about these things.

When on a trip to check out some horses things change between them.

Elsie doesn't trust that she can get close to Hunter or anyone as everyone leaves her.

Hunter realizes how he feels but it is going to take Elsie time or will she open her heart.

Another good story in this series.

Of all the books in this series, I found this one to be the most intense and somewhat depressing book. I love the book. This book was about Elsie and Hunter, I found that their story was good and it has some amusing moments too. I love how Elsie was always on Hunter's case and even when things change in their relationship, she still tries to give Hunter a hard time when they work together doing what they love so much, working with horses. But learning more about the McCloud family and how they were treated by their parents, especially their father, made me want to weep for those young boys.
I can't wait to see what happen on the Four Corners Ranch next...

I was anticipating a great story for Elsie and Hunter but this was just ok.

The first half was fantastic, the last bit slowed down and this landed at a solid 3 for me.

Elsie and Hunter had strong chemistry, fun banter and a real connection. I loved that we spent actual time with them on page and got to see their attraction grow. I still feel that their internal turmoil over their trauma, while emotional and heartbreaking, was over done. Maybe it is because I am reading this series straight through, but all lot of it feels self deprecating.

I did love the characters, peeks at others and want to keep moving with this series.

Tropes: Brother’s best friend; forced proximity; age gap (10 years)

I had never read this author before. This book was a Christmas gift from my niece so I promised her I would read it first. It was a nice read. I’ve always enjoyed the brother’s best friend trope. (Nothing like forbidden fruit.) I also love a forced proximity/one bed situation, which this had. The MCs had known each other for their whole lives—I’m a sucker for a friendship-turned-romance. There was a lot of past trauma but they dealt with it together. All told, I’m not mad to have spent most of my New Year’s Day reading

After reading the books and novellas that came before this … I was really anticipating/looking forward to this one. I really like the small town stories that Yates crafts and this one was no different. While I struggled with pacing and felt this dragged a little in places, this was a really satisfying conclusion to the Garrett portion of this community and a nice brothers best friend/best friends little sister story. I look forward to more stories from the Four Corners Ranch run in the future!

Loved the trope in this book, falling in love with your brothers best friend trope can go either good or bad once its revealed to the brothers. But this book was too sweet for it to go sour. I loved the chemistry and how easy it was for them to connect. Their families have a ton of history and I got lost a little bit, and also there is a ton of abandonment issues between these two characters so a lot of it was rushed at the end, but I loved their story and I now I cant wait to read more about these cowboys.

Cowboy Wild by Maisey Yates is the best emotional journey I have ever experienced. Both the heroine and hero have so much pain in their pasts they they both share. It makes them stronger. They have a lot to learn about themselves and what they want in life. The banters between them were my favorite parts! Maisey Yates knows how to entertain readers and give them a wild ride worth reading. Looking for a good romance filled with humor and heart? This is definitely it!

They basically live on a commune of 4 ranches. All adults, but no parents. From the 2 families talked about most, the moms left, one dad died and the other left. 2 best friends, 24, are itching for some experience. There was a huge error where Travis (not a main) asks Elsie if she was at the bar the other night. They literally came face to face and spoke to each other. Lots of repetition in the whole am I worthy, shitty family, but I enjoyed the story and really love me a cowboy romance. Looking for award to more in the series.

Honestly shocked this book is rated 4.0 stars.. It's cowboy storyline points in a direction that readers want, but feels like it gets lost on its way to the destination. The female protagonist comes across as extremely immature and frankly annoying making it difficult to finish the book. I respect how trauma can cause lingering emotional immaturity, however what was well written for Hunter, did not align well with Elsie. I'm disappointed and feel uncertain whether I will try another book by Maisey Yates any time soon.

A trip to Oregon with a Maisey Yates story is always a joy! The third book in the Four Corners Ranch series is Hunter and Elsie's story and was quick to catch this reader's heart. It was slower paced than some in the series and drug a tad but the characters and setting always pick up the slack with this series. Warmth and sass steal the show when this worldly brother's best friend teaches the spunky youngster a thing or two. I'm looking forward to more to come in this series as always!
