There’s no way that Red Hood’s team of zombie villains would ever turn on him. I mean, that’s just math. There’s no chance at all that trying to control a team that literally has zombie Bane on it will work out badly. So just stop it, don’t even think that way…and even if that were the case, there’s no way Mr. Freeze would return to kill everyone either, right?

"I haven’t always been a writer. My parents are writers and my brother is a writer, and I resisted that as long as I could. When I was 17, I hopped in a band’s van and I went on tour for a summer, and that was it, that was what I wanted to do. I ran a record label for 10 years, a small indie punk label. I did everything in music that you can do that doesn’t involve having musical ability. Eventually the music business, probably in a similar way to comics, will just start to break your heart, and I realized one day that I kind of hated music. I was resigned to thinking, if I’m going to be involved in music forever, I’m going to hate it for the rest of my life. I just stopped. I stopped having any sort of business with music, any involvement.
I read comics my whole life, so I just naturally fell back into another medium that is marginalized and hard to make a living in."
So, I guess they're just ignoring what happened to Bane last issue? Okay.
Given that this is a Task Force X spin-off of a sort, having Amanda Waller in charge above "Crispin" and having her not really treat human life as sacred is very in character for her, especially given that Bane was dead before he joined Task Force Z.
Finding out not only who "Crispin" was - which was actually revealed as the cliffhanger last issue - but also why he's doing this and why he picked Jason Todd for this job was emotionally charged, especially given that they have good reason not to trust each other. Because "Crispin" is Harvey Dent's code name. Jason starts out the issue physically attacking his employer, while his employer has a long history of villainy, so much so Dent says he's more 'tainted' than even Jason, implying irredeemable. I would argue that the fact that he's trying to make up for his past, a point in time in which he claims he was so mentally unwell that it was a different person doing those things, makes him redeemable. Except redeemable in action and redeemable in 'other people will give me a chance' are two different things, especially as far as employment goes.
And then there's Batman. Between this title and Future State Gotham, Batman has proven that he will send Jason under cover on heinous missions that will cost Jason mentally and emotionally. Bruce is manipulative. He's emotionally abusive. And he may do it for a good cause, but it's Jason who'll suffer, especially since he's invested in figuring out what's going on, more so than Batman who asks him to pull out of this mission. Yes, I should have seen that coming, no, I didn't.
I'm even more invested in this title now. Sucks that I'll have to wait so long for the next issue.

I liked Harvey and Jason's scene, made me excited to see where they go with this team but then they almost immediately undercut it by having Waller tell them they're done? I mean, I'm sure they're not done but it was just a little deflating.

I really like this issue because we already know who "Crispin" is now, so we get more answers. We find out why Crispin is leading this task force and what they hope to gain from it. We have a developing conflict between Crispin and Jason, and then, at the end, we find out there's a lot more going on than we think. We also have an appearance from Batman, which leads to some interesting dialogue and moral questions. Oh, and Amanda Waller makes an appearance and pretty much Wallers it up with Crispin, so that was a great scene. Btw, I'm calling Crispin Crispin because who they really are is a spoiler in case someone is reading this review before they read #3. Anyway, the ending has me really curious about issue #5. I can't wait to find out more about what's really going on with Task Force Z. Great issue!!
