This is so good??? Like, I did not expect to be so invested in this story, but I most definitely am. I love the plot, I adore the heroine and her "kids" and the art style is absolutely gorgeous too. It’s still ongoing, so I fear that if I keep liking it as much as I do now, I’ll definitely run to continue with the novel.

Dios... ahora yo soy mayor que ellos Y SIGO TIRADA EN LA CAMA HACIENDO NADA q risa

NOTE: You can read this series for free on Tapas if you're interested. The second volume consists of episodes 20-39.

Although I was subscribed to the manhwa on tapas, it was a manhwa I didn't really ever start until I purchased the physical editions. I really enjoyed the first and second volume and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

These books feel like they have such a sense of melancholy, despite the humour of the kids fighting. Likely because Shuri, whilst with the insight of several years and the future she lived, is constantly worried about what they all could lose, and is having to read carefully no matter what. I really enjoyed her interactions with Norra, and she's got this greatly motherly aura. Will definitely keep reading, I love the art and the designs.

Stepmother Shuri turns out to be such a strong character ( well..I guess she's had practice ) and now she has a bunch of subplots to deal with and characters turning to get for help and advice.
And no...don't trust the church!!

Post-Read: Somehow this was even BETTER than the first!!! So excited to write this review and share my thoughts. Oh... And SUPER hot prince. 🥴😉

~~

Pre-Read: I forgot that I had started this a few days ago, but it was honestly sooooo late at night when I had picked it up; that I just decided to start it over again now. A few new characters have been introduced and GOD are they hot. 😳 😵‍💫 🥵

“The Mother of Lions”

“Pain is something that cannot be avoided, therefore it’s alright to grieve in a place no one is looking.”

“Sometimes great comfort, can come from people, rather than God.”

Volume 2 (which covers chapters 20–39) had everything. Political drama, satisfying power plays, emotional closure, and a crown prince with unresolved issues that Freud would’ve had a field day with.

Let’s start there: Shuli resembling the emperor’s late wife and the crown prince’s mother?? Be serious. Sigmund Freud is laughing in his grave. The fact that this is part of why the crown prince is obsessed with Shuli? I knew he was weird. He’s plotting something and I have my eye on him.

Now, the real star—Shuli. Watching her enter the aristocratic wives’ circle like a seasoned political strategist was so satisfying. The way she gracefully asserted herself in a space designed to exclude her? Delicious. Her ability to hold space and outmaneuver nobility is something I will never get tired of watching.

And the memorial ball? Her taking charge of that was not just a tribute—it was a power move. A public statement that her family, though grieving, remains strong and united. That’s queen behaviour.

Let’s not forget the absolute read she gave her mother and older brother when they dared to suggest she “owed” them. The way she calmly pointed out that children don’t owe their parents for basic care—and especially not when they sold her off for money?? She ate them up. I was clapping from my screen.

AND THEN she said: “Sure, we’ll cover the Christmas charity budget… just show me the receipts from the church’s relief fund withdrawals.” EXCUSE ME??? That was such a bold and righteous accountability move. Like who is doing it like her??

Her friendship with Halime also warmed my heart. It was lovely seeing her open up to another woman on her level, and the twist that Halime is literally a Safavid princess? Yeah. Of course. Icon behaviour attracts icon behaviour.

And the cherry on top: the Emperor thanking Shuli for supporting the empire. That scene made me pause and just breathe. What a perfect emotional and political high note to end the volume on.

This series just keeps climbing. Shuli’s growth, the shifting power dynamics, and the careful rewrites of her past mistakes are everything. I'm locked in. Let’s keep turning pages—because I already know Volume 3 is about to go crazy.

I’m so sad about Norra’s relationship with his family. It seems like he longs for parental affection and his parents are very stern with their parenting style. He’s a child that wants to be loved, and it’s unfortunate that even though they may care about him it doesn’t come across. I am glad that his mother is making more efforts but his father is pushing my nerves. He shows the crown prince more attention and care because of the empress, all the while ignoring the needs of his own son. It is very sad and regrettable. I am glad that Shuri is there for Norra, but it is important for his parents to reflect on their treatment of him before it builds a permanent wall between them. The crown prince is a very deceiving character, and his scheming makes me uncomfortable. He finds delight at having stolen Norra’s parents’ attention, and he wants to do the same thing with Shuri. It is likely that he does not receive affection from his real parents (with his mother being deceased) but it does not justify his actions. I hope Norra resolves the misunderstanding with his father and that his father learns to see just want an excellent son he has raised.

I am so happy that A Stepmother's Marchen got a print release. When I first read it online I was mesmerized by the art, and then again by the story, its characters and world. I'm up to date online, but rereading it in print is a lot of fun. This is a story I don't get tired of.

The story follows Marchioness Shuri Von Neuschwanstein who married at an incredibly young age and became the stepmother to four children who were close in age to her. This is a regression story where Shuri goes back in time to when her husband dies. She decides to correct the mistakes of the past to have a better future. That's as much as I want to say for summary because I truly think this is a series you just need to read and experience.

Well now, it seems the church really doesn't like Shuri. On the other hand, she seems to be doing much better finding allies and winning people over in this go around with her life. She also seems much closer to Norra truthfully rather than the crown prince, even if all three of them are of age. Curious if that may have something to do with Jeremy's relationship with the crown prince as well as her past life experience. At least it seems her relationship with the children continues to improve, which is good to see, especially as the younger ones at least for the moment are as rambunctious as ever.

(Finished the second season)

I love Shuri. I love Norra. I Love Jeremy and the kids. I hate Theobald, and Johannes. Richelieu I kinda like.

Didn't really like that Jeremy has feelings for Shuri, but meh. I would also probably fall in love with a pretty girl ready to give up on her whole life to save me. I hope at some point his feelings change to fraternal love tho. The plot is perfect, and I loved the romance between Shuri and Norra and the political and familial problems. And the art is GORGEOUS. PERFECT. My only complaint is how long I will have to wait for the next season

I want to like this one more. The artwork is dynamic and the story is inflected with complicated family dynamics. This is a different approach than many in the time travel reincarnation genre. However, it gets lots in a lot of flashbacks and time jumps in the midsection where it holds all the major reveals. The character development kind of stagnates. Shuli doesn't end up using her prior knowledge or preparing for the future in either timeline which becomes disappointing.

The art is so good. I am so interested. It does seem very WW1 or the 90s 3 musketeers movie. I’m enjoying it and I want to read. Also I don’t trust that prince!!
