I’m back in the small town of my youth, to heal from my broken marriage.
The grumpy, shirtless wolf fixing my roof doesn’t bring me the peace I want.
Instead, he brings out hot feelings I thought I’d lost a long time ago.
Feelings that I have to resist if I want to avoid another broken heart...

But however I try to avoid him, his red eyes follow me everywhere.
Something tells me he’s not a regular wolf, but something darker.
And something inside of me wants to heal him, to heal his scars.
To kiss away the pain and the worry that he hides behind those muscles.

Nothing in this town is what it seems though…
Not even the dating agency that someone supposedly signed me up for.
Will I find what I am looking for here?
Can a grumpy wolf give me what I secretly desire?

A mate, and a baby?

The Shifter Mating Agency specializes in interspecies matches. It finds the hottest dates with the hottest wolves, and whether the match is made in heaven or not… ultimately, romance will win the day.

Hi there! I’m Layla Silver, and I’m so happy to see you here :) I’m a mom of three adorable kids and after all these years, still wildly in love with my awesome and hard-working husband. I LOVE to write about hot shifters, whether Wolves, Bears, or Dragons, who are looking for their mates and will do anything to protect them no matter what comes their way. When I’m not writing or spending time with my family (which is pretty rare, but I’m not complaining!), I like to be in the mountains chasing paranormal dreams.

I didn't know what to expect from this book but I really enjoyed it. I've read my fair share of shifter romances, so I'm always happy to see different takes on the genre. It was pretty refreshing!

Honey was a very relatable character. She is a romance writer who lost the spark to write after going through so much, and losing so much. . So she decides to go back to her grandma's house, situated in Wolfcreek, to attempt to light that spark again, but also, find herself. She was so kindhearted, and what I loved the most was how down to earth she was. At no point she annoyed me. She was very agreeable to follow. All of her reactions were sensical and mature.

“Touch was my love language, there was no greater feeling than warm hands caressing and exploring my body, and it was clear he’d figured that out from the singular intimate moment we’d shared.”-Honey

As for Daemon, he was a troubled werewolf. He was grumpy, broody and somewhat cold to certain extends, to keep people away. He was a cursed werewolf, which they called phantom werewolf and therefore, had a darkness in him, an aggressive entity. I really liked that concept, it added some depth to his character. As soon as Honey entered Wolfcreek, her scent really enticed him, as well as his phantom. I'm also pretty sure he's been celibate.

“The phantom knows nothing but hunting, killing, and fucking, nothing more, and I wanted to do it all to her.”-Daemon

The tension was great. On one hand, Daemon wanted to get closer to Honey and on the other hand, his phantom wanted to hurt her. The chemistry was there. I wish there had been more smut scenes, but overall, pretty solid story. Interesting plot.

“Each breath I took was as if she were standing beside me, her scent enveloping me. It cleared the fog in my mind while producing it all at once, and it was frustrating.”-Daemon

This was a really quick read. The writing was decent and engaging, I also only noticed a few typos. The plot was interesting, the characters relatable and intriguing. Overall, an enjoyable little story. I'm not too sure I will read the next book because the premise doesn't call to me but who knows? I might read it and it might surprise me.

This was an interesting read, it has elements I wasn't expecting, but I enjoyed it immensely. Honey and Daemon were an odd set of characters, but they did fit each other. I just felt so bad for these two, their lives was filled with heartbreak and pain.

I did love their connection, but I can't lie they were reckless with Daemon's unfortunate issue, there was no plan of solutions to help them proceed with their future, they pretty much went YOLO.

The ending was my favorite and that sweet beautiful reveal was just perfect and I didn't want it to end, I wanted to see their future together.

The next book is on Malaki, a werewolf that SAVED Honey's life, but we don't know much about him other than that; I can't wait to see what lies ahead for him.

What happened to Honey’s father or grandfather?

I'm so glad I found this book in KU as this is a new author to me.

I really enjoyed this book. Daemon is such a tortured soul and it just trying to keep everyone safe even if that means a very lonely existence for him. When I found out what happened to him, it broke my heart. He never stood a chance.

Honey was an amazing woman through all of this! I want to be her when I grow up. She is a very nurturing, forgiving and understanding woman. She is accepting of others and encourages others to be themselves and life their best lives.

I'm downloading book two and starting it as soon as I can.

I really liked the premise of this book, but it didn't hit every mark for me. It was still a fun read, just not my favorite. I think my biggest issue is the ending-i didnt like how the "curse" was handled. I would have preferred to see that be something that the couple continued to overcome together, and find safe ways to push their relationship forward. I think that would have made the pregnancy more impacting, because he would have shown growth in knowing he was worthy of love and being a father despite being cursed.

Not for me

This book put me to sleep 3 times in one day even with the skipping. Only managed 48% it needs to be more engaging, repeating the story in different ways every couple of pages doesn't cut it. We get stuck in Honeys head a lot then rinse and repeat with the dialogue.

The premise could have been interesting as it's a different take on wolves but the execution is lacking.

Grumpy Wolf

There was something missing for me. The author answered all of our questions and had a HEA. Still, it lacked depth. There are a lot of missing words and incorrect words. It’s a fairly quick read that’s easy to read just lacking. There are sexual scenes, although not very descriptive, that may offend some readers. Unfortunately, this book did not entice me to read others in the series.

Just a wonderful story

I love shifter stories in general , but I had never heard if a phantom wolf. What a great concept. I have a soft spot for redemption stories but this was more about acceptance than redemption and sometimes that is every bit as important. If you want a quick read that will have you feeling some type of way, this is the one for you.

This is the story of Honey and Daemon. I was hooked from the start and the more I read their story the more I rooted for their HEA. As secrets are revealed, a new paranormal is introduced. I enjoyed this story from start to finish. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

True Love can break any curse.

Daemon & Honey> he always thought himself a monster even though people told him different he couldn't see it. She came home to fix what was broken inside her, but it took a car of kindness from a stranger to show her how, but could she help him? The characters will take you through twist and turns throughout their journey to find each other.

Grumpy Wolf

I loved this story of a phantom wolf and his mate. One that he didn't know he had until she came back to his small town. His mother was cursed while she was pregnant with him and died after giving birth. Little was known when he was born that he carried this curse too. Worth getting and reading.

Grumpy Wolf is book one in the series Shifter Mating Agency by author Layla Silver. What a start to a new series this one has it all. Good and evil fight- love, betrayal and discovery. Ups and downs - steps forward and steps back. Oh some steamy parts that leave you wanting more. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Enjoy!!

what- spoilers

Parts of this was barely palatable. There was no world building. Useless or repetitive articles or phrases- “For, I knew we would make it.” - ended up being wordy, disjointed in some chapters and. To ay the least corny. The ending? A woman who is infertile gets pregnant with a magic baby? Ok

I mean it was what it was, ya know? I didn’t open it expecting life changing literature. I wanted a spicy KU werewolf romance. A nice palate cleanser from the last series I read. Even so, it was just alright. It’s hard to write a convincing connection when the book is so short, but that’s purely a personal opinion. It did what it was intended to & now I shall move on.

Love wins!!

Honey is a strong, self sufficient writer who's had some extremely hard knocks & is trying to get herself back together. Daemon's been saddled with a horrible curse that haunts him & leaves him in fear of his other self. She's visiting the very small town her family is from - great characters - all unique!

Not that grumpy🐺

Daemon true to stay away from Honey. But the Phantom Wolf inside him wanted her. He was afraid he would hurt her, but Honey knew better. She knew he needed to confront his phantom, and she wasn't giving up!

I found myself only reading to find out what was a phantom wolf and what made him different. I still don't know.

I guess halfway through nothing has really happened and I'm just not interested.

A Good Shifter Starter

I haven't read too many shifter books, but this one was quite an enjoyable read. It's nice to read a book where the h is just as strong-willed as the H. A great short story with a guaranteed HEA.

This book makes you want to move to Wolf Creek. To be a part of an interspecies town and getting to know and learn from everyone. If only the world we.live in could get along like the characters in this book. Thank you Layla Silver!

This book had me hooked from the beginning! The introduction of a "different" type of paranormal, thought to be a myth, was very well done. It was impossible to put down!
