True love is never lost … it’s just waiting for a second chance Skyler is home for the holidays, and after ten years it feels like a lifetime. A lot has changed in the small seaside town, so maybe all her worries are over. Sometimes the past is better forgotten, but there is one woman Skyler will never forget. Nyra Bains, her high school sweetheart. The girl she left behind. Nyra didn’t know Skyler was back in town, and it looks like she doesn’t want to know either. Skyler would give anything to restart the fire they once had, if only Nyra would talk to her. Then a catastrophic storm rocks the coast, and suddenly Skyler has a lot more than girl trouble to contend with. Something big is hiding out on the property, and it's going to need her help. Skyler knows if she’s ever going to get a second chance at love, she’ll have to do whatever it takes to get Nyra back on her side. A steamy, small town, holiday, second chance romance with an adorable four-legged friend
Sure, I do other stuff but mostly I’m a writer. I get up early in the morning and work at my kitchen table with a steaming hot cup of tea. Sometimes I listen to brain.fm to help me focus. Sometimes I use a timer and write in sprints. Sometimes I don’t do any of that and listen to the chatter of the birds in my back yard while I dive into a scene. Whatever I do, I sit my ass in the chair every day and write. I have a wife. She’s the inspiration for all of my sexy heroines. She’s the crème de la crème. She’s my favorite love story. She’s my queen. I’m also a mother. I have a son that I adore more than anything in the world. He’s the best thing I ever did, by far, and his amazing sense of fun and adventure keeps me wanting to explore. I’m a musician. I used to play in a band. I’m a computer geek, I love cooking, tasting delicious craft beers and being outside. I love where I live, on the beautiful West Coast of Canada where it’s temperate in all sorts of ways. Giselle Fox is my pen name. Having a pen name puts a little separation between real life and fiction. And since my stories are always spicy, that separation is a good thing. Giselle is the creative part of me. She gets me out of bed every morning, she cracks the whip when I want to flake out on the couch and watch Netflix. She makes me pay attention to people and circumstances and ask questions so I can write. Having an alter ego is great. You should try it, if you haven’t already.
This was freaking amazing! Funny, sweet, hot, frustrating, cute, adorable, silly, bantery, erotic, right in the feels, and raw! Kindle Unlimited!
I always forget how awesome Giselle Fox's stuff is until I read one again and get reminded. They are an author that is well over-looked and under-appreciated. Her Rare and Beautiful Things was one of the first lesfics I'd read. She does angst in a great way where you don't feel it's done for drama and frustrations sake, but because of real emotion and issues the characters are trying to overcome.
The same is true here. We meet Skyler and Nyra, who were secret but hot and heavy lovers in highschool, but from very different sides of the track, with varying statuses in town and wealth disparity. Nyra comes from wealth, and educated fine upstanding citizenry. Skyler was more your goofball who didn't try too hard in school, from a lower socioeconomic area, with an uncle that was a criminal. Both girls clearly meaning more to each other than they ever let on at the time. 10 years later, meeting up brings up old frustrations and the same status issues, but also the same heat and attraction that was always there. But could it be more?
I loved that the author didn't tip-toe around the previous relationship and the drama that took them apart. One of the most frustrating parts of most second-chance romances is the bullshit dance the authors put in where the two star-crossed lovers NEVER discuss what went down between them, until late into the story. This really helps to let us get to know the characters and establish a proper background to really get to know who they are in the here and now.
Skyler is cocky and frustratingly sassy and sarcastic, and yet it's endearing not off-putting like I would normally find a character like that! Which again is a testament to the writing. Which oof, so many lines got me right in the feels!!! It's beautiful, torturous, salacious. Everything you want in a romance. Nyra is strong, stable, working hard in her upstanding job for the town citizenry, but confident in herself and knows what she wants. She doesn't bullshit, but also just doesn't want to get hurt again. It's pretty high heat, quite a few extensive and accessorized love scenes. So not for the tame-of-heart.
There's an incredibly special character involve in a 'not so wild' BEAR in need of protection and care, which reminded me of another earlier lesfic I read and loved by Kris Bryant called Breakthrough; remember Wally the raccoon? Well Arabella is gonna steal the limelight away as best 'wild' pet character in a book, I think!
A very highly recommended story that isn't too long, and yet is so deeply moving and HOT, that I'm not sure what to do with myself, next. lol. Check it out on KU.
This is a story about Skyler coming back after 10 years, just like she left; broke and having achieved nothing. And it's about Nyra who has a successful career. They were high school lovers and their relationship ended abruptly. But in life and love, it's never too late for a second chance. I love the characters, the storyline, the dialogues, the sarcasm, the challenges and of course the furry friend. The story is well written and it has the right amount of everything. Highly recommended.
3.5 ⭐️ A short, light, easy, and hot read with MCs, who met again a decade later. No angsty scene and me... I would like some angst please. Nyra and Skyler patched up PDQ with hot sexy scenes taking up most of the second half of the book.
5 Stars - fun and s*xy second chances story that takes place around Christmas time. Kindle Unlimited.
While this story does take place around Christmas, it's not really a Christmas story. It's a story about secret highschool sweethearts getting a second chance. Evey part of the story makes sense, the reason they are separated, the coming back together and even a crazy storyline about a bear. It was a very fun and steamy read. Ms Fox has a way of evoking and portraying strong emotions in her s*x scenes that I just find very hot. Highly recommend.
3 stars for this somewhat holiday-time story. It was a quirky, short read that had a lot to do with a tame bear? More than I had envisioned, anyway. Points for the Canadian landscape, some laugh out loud moments, holiday warmth, a Charlie Brown Christmas tree complete with owl feathers, and whole lot of frantic sex, much of it involving cars and a dildo. Also the cover photo? Nothing to do with the characters. Fun and unique but a little....lacking.
Reread it and changed my mind. I'm giving it whole 5 stars. It's steamy and sweet – wow. This was a really good novella, and I enjoyed it a lot. It reminds me of why the author is one of my all-time faves.
I’ve been waiting a long time for Giselle Fox to publish a new book and this one sure didn’t disappoint. It was quirky, enchanting, sexy as hell, and fun. I loved everything about this book from the second chance romance to the disabled black bear squatter! This was such a perfect way to spend an afternoon!
This was an incredible story about second chance romance. It was direct (told in first person), laugh out loud funny in many parts, heart warming in others resulting in shed tears, highly erotic, and an animal lover’s dream.
How can a novella be so many things at once? It’s thanks to the return of Giselle Fox with a very special book for the holidays. I’d highly recommend that you read this small town, holiday romance.
It’s so lovely to have a new book from Giselle Fox. And what a breath of fresh air…the air of the Pacific Northwest (is it still called that in Canada?). I have read and listened to a lot of lesbian fiction/romance and Fox’s work is always outside the box. In a good way. How many lesbian fictions star a bear? And have the story work? I love how her protagonists are not always brilliant. Here, Skylar is Skylar and she tells the story through her words…not always as grammatically correct or eloquent as her lawyer love interest, but clear and beautiful just the same. I’ve been a fan for a long time and am so happy to have Fox writing again.
This was a really sweet, touching and sentimental second chance story. Not for the love that was left behind, nor the home she and her mom had to abandon but for the acceptance of love and home and family upon coming home again. There is such a sweet message in this story. And the added surprise of love between a human and an animal brought this whole story together. This is a must read. You don’t need the details in this review, just read it!
The author bequeathed to us a heart felt look into sometimes it is necessary to step back when you are scared. It is only what time and thought that sometimes prevail and the person you love loves you also. Skylar and Nyra both have had the time to reflect. Do they want to or do they forget each other ? Of course the bear with only three legs might have something to do with that decision! Enjoy!
This novella is a pleasant quick read, with affable characters and an equally likable bear. That’s right, Arabella, a bear.
The two were lovers in high school but when Skyler has to escape town suddenly for family reasons, she leaves Nyra puzzled, heartbroken, and furious. It’s your typical down-on-her-luck-woman-returns-to-her-hometown romance, with the pair’s still smoldering love and sexual attraction quickly rekindled.
This is going to be one of my forever favorite read! I really enjoyed both Skylar and Nyra commitment to helping Arabella have a forever place. And the totally complete love they both had for each other was absolutely amazing to read, as these people slowly let their guards enough down to allow the love tha myt never left toeither of them to blossom into something more than they could have possibly hoped for as teenagers. I was also happy that Skylar was accepted by the town she and Mother had fled because of the her uncle's reputation. Ms. Fox as usual well done....thank you!
I was a little hesitant to get this one because of the plot. Girls are in love, girl leaves girl, girl comes back. While there are tons of books with this same theme, this book characters and dialogue blew it away. A+. Thanks for such a fun steamy read!
This is a fun back-to-your-hometown-girlfriend holiday romance. In keeping with the shortened novella structure their uncertainty/animosity for each other resolves very quickly. Of course their reunification is helped along by a tame, disabled bear that has wandered into town. A cute read with the anticipated HEA.
I loved this story. Nyra and Sky were hot just gonna throw that out there and of course the relationship Sky had with Arabella was so sweet. I always found it amazing that people can have a relationship with a wild animal. Lived this story but its noting new for me I always seem to love Giselle's books.
In the beginning I felt so sorry for Skylar. She had to leave the love of her life and not even tell her why. I have always felt that God always gives us guidance and tries to steer us to what He feels is right for us. This book is about the choices that we make. It is well worth the reading.
This was the craziest, weirdest lesbian based story I've ever read. Everything just seemed sooo farfetched! But I rather enjoyed it, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it! Steamy. Provocative. Silly. Humorous. Loving. Fun. Everything in one. Thanks a lot! I read it in one sitting...well, one lying (on the bed, lol).
I loved this so much, romantic, funny and as hot as all that. The sex scenes are awesome, the scene where Skylar and Nyra drive out to the lighthouse rocked my world. This story gave me the feels big time, I laughed, cried and loved this story so much I'm going to read again. Oh yeah Arabella is adorbs.
I really enjoyed this book. The imagination that was displayed made for an interesting and engaging experience. The characters, especially Arabella was fascinating. The characters were strong and their stories were amazing. I fully recommend this book for all to enjoy as much as I have.
I really enjoyed this book. The bond between Skyler and the bear was sweet. This book made me laugh.. The second chance love story between Nyra and skyler is sweet and steamy. Thanks
I didn’t know what to expect with this come back book from this author but what great short story. The bear was definitely the star of this book and I loved reading about her.
Not really sure at first but keep reading. A story about second chances and that there's a bear as a pet. Different type of story but hot and steamy when you add Girl Trouble.
This is a charming romance with an unusual pet. I read it in one sitting and will read it again at a more leisurely pace. The writing is good and well edited. I am sure you'll enjoy it too.
