The Santorini Setup

Rate this book
Britt Evans’ working holiday on picturesque Santorini turns perilous when a Greek photographer plunges from the island’s steep cliffs. The death is ruled an accident, but the enigmatic Susan Marcello of the American Embassy suspects otherwise. She enlists Britt to discover the truth, but is it a setup that will take her life?

Into the mix sails Cassie Burkhardt, a windsurfing computer engineer at the archaeological site. She finds herself falling hard for the enchanting Professor Evans… and becomes, like Britt, caught in a treacherous game between Greek intelligence and a criminal enterprise.

A gripping suspense/romance blend set in the land of myths and ancient ruins.

Thrilling!

Britt is on a working holiday in Santorini when she meets Cassie who works at the archaeological site and the two of them quickly go from friends to something more. Naturally, being involved with Britt means Cassie is also pulled into the drama when Britt is enlisted by Susan at the American Embassy to uncover the truth about the accidental death of a photographer.

There were two elements to this story, which really helped to build the intensity of the mystery surrounding the photographer’s death. As each piece of the puzzle got them closer to the truth, new dramas and challenges were presented. It was quite thrilling to experience the impact this suddenly had on the dynamic that was casually forming between Britt and Cassie and eluded to the fact that something wasn’t quite right with the whole situation.

What I really enjoyed was the fact that I just couldn’t work out who to suspect or how some characters could be involved, and so that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was suspicious of everyone, what they knew and what the perhaps leading Britt into. I was most intrigued by the interwoven references to the surroundings in Santorini and the myths of the culture too.

Britt and Cassie had a lovely connection. From the moment they met, you knew they had been destined to meet but Cassie, for a while was a piece of the puzzle and I wondered a lot about her because she seemed in some ways a little elusive compared to Britt. I loved them together and the dedication between them, especially when the work Britt found herself roped into was putting them in dangerous and unknown situations.

A most enjoyable mystery that I really enjoyed.

If you are one that enjoys stories full of intrigue and suspense, then this mystery is for you. Set in the gorgeous Greek Islands, this engrossing tale never lets up. It’s twisty-turny plot keeps you on your toes till the very end.

Readers will appreciate the action-packed drama in this captivating read; it’s filled to the brim with splendidly choreographed, of edge of your seat, cat and mouse chase scenes. Bohan never takes her foot off the gas, and readers are quickly caught up in this tale of who done it. Bohan sprinkles in just the right amount of romance to up the interest, but lets it all culminate in one big and explosive ending. Readers race along with Britt and Cassie to the finish where it all plays out like a good, old fashioned James Bond movie.

Final thoughts…

This is a really fun read—thrilling storytelling through and through. Bohan scripts an exciting story with compelling characters, drama and romance. There are a few points in the narrative that I did question the plausibility of what I was reading. However, I didn’t dwell on it. The story is meant to entertain, and it does more than a fine job of that.

Strengths…

Full of mystery and suspense
Nice action scenes
Gorgeous setting
Intriguing plot
Interesting characters

This may have been a rare case of a story needing another hundred or so pages to become fully fleshed out. The story features murder, corruption, desecration of antiquities, government spies, and a little lesbian romance thrown in for good measure. This had some potential and the characters, despite everyone being in love with the main character for no discernible reason, could have carried this story quite well, but the pacing was lightning fast and I'm not even sure the "main" story made much sense at the end of the day. It was fun, and could have really set up a quasi-Indiana Jones-esque character for a series but instead it was just light reading and not much else.

Extremely Good! Romance and Suspense! Indeed!

In this story, Britt, our lesbian professor, gets asked to keep an eye out for anything suspicious while on Santorini. While she’s there, she meets straight girl, Cassie. There’s plenty of suspicion to find on Santorini, and I am not going to spoil anything for you. Plenty of suspense and some great action in the end. The author does not disappoint. You just gotta read it.

Britt and Cassie are brilliant. I loved the way Britt was super hesitant to get involved with a straight gal. Took several chapters. The characters were real and relatable. Totally enjoyed it. I’m sure you will, too. Don’t hesitate. Read this book.

WOW, this took me by surprise and held on to me until the end!

Becky Bohan has written with absolute love and intensity of the delightful Santorini island, its people, history and managed to bring a love story and a intensely anxiety ridden mystery story all together, and done it so very well! I loved this island when I traveled there, and this flooded me with memories of people I met there as well as the physical place. I have had this on my to be read list for months and I am sorry I waited so long to get to it! It is beautifully written and very expressive, in short just a wonderful read.

I found this jewel of a thriller/lesbian romance in my search for books to read for the 2022 I♥️lesfic challenge an could not stop reading before the last page. A well plotted, gripping adventure with a great romantic sub-plot between two strong women.

good story!

Really enjoyed this mystery with a romance on the side, or was it a romance with a mystery on the side? Regardless, Britt and Cassie were a lovely couple. The mystery was just right. And I require a HEA, so it’s all good.

Good book

A great story about sleuthing and with a lesbian twist. As a professor of archaeology Britt know the land and the digs that is going on. Cassie a computer nerd is with the dig classifying all the relics. See what these two can dig up together when they see guns.

A good mystery.

I thought this was a good book, lots of intrigue and twists. There was also a good mix of characters. Women with strong leads and the baddies were integral to their parts.
Worth reading.
