Updated Review: Just as amazing as the first time I read it! The openness Kurumi and Eiji have is so so so good, even though I was heartbroken for a short time due to a misunderstanding! Eager and ready to see how this series ends because this has been an incredible sequel!
Original Review 7/15/24: This was superb!!
And it's going to be a longggg wait for the third volume with how this one ended!
I don't know why I would feel shocked at how good this was (maybe because I hold Kimi ni Todoke in such high regard?), but here I am debating if this has been my favorite read of the month! If not the favorite, it is at least second because the depth of Ume and how she is being so honest with how she views herself was incredible. It broke my heart, but it also had me reading open-mouthed in surprise because I never imagined this is who THE Kurumi really is.
And Eiji! He's AMAZING! The way he loves and cares for her and is so mindful of his actions speaks A LOT about his character! I really really like him as a male hero and honestly think he is perfect for Ume! I quite liked how near the end HE was the one testing Ume because Ume often says how she's testing him, but she wasn't the only one.
Also THE ANGST!! I didn't think it could be real for a short series, but I'm like MY HEART NEEDS RECONCILIATION PLEASE!!
This has been such an excellent spinoff series and so thankful we got it in English! My heart and hands are desperate for the next volume!!
Writing a review a few weeks after finishing a book shouldn't be this difficult. I can't really recall much about this, other than when she went all Super Evil Biotch Mode and I had to put the book down for a week or so to calm down enough to read the rest of it. That's a me thing, I get very into what I read and if something happens that is stressful in the book, then it's going to go right to me and make me anxious and stressed out. That's a plus, as it means the book sucked me in enough to cause me to have such a strong reaction, BUT if I put something down for too long, then I tend to forget all but the most powerful memory from said book and that brings me to this point, where I can't give a decent review to save my life.
I still like the characters and still want to see them have their HEA, but I think I need to re-read this one before I read the next volume, just as a refresher.
3, it's me and not the book for this one and I want to continue with the series, stars.
My thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for an eARC of this book to read and review.

Too much angst for me, but I’m glad to see a perspective of a villain because we all have these traits within us (maybe I’m relying too heavily here… 😅😅😅)

Loved this volume 😭💗 I just love how supportive Sawako and Kurumi are + I feel Eiji is so perfect for Kurumi, they help eachother grow in different ways it’s so sweet.
I just love cozying up and reading a soujo manga 😭 it’s such a cliche romance but ahh it’s so funny and cute
Kurumi and Eiji are growing on me. They’re really cute together. They’re not my favorite couple from this universe, but they definitely had me smiling towards the end of this volume. The scene where they had drinks with Eiji’s high school friends was so funny (Kurumi is overthinking way too much though).
I love Kurumi and Sawako’s friendship, they’ve grown so much. Kurumi asking Sawako for help and Sawako instantly going out of her way to help is everything. They’re so cute!!
Man, Kurumi is too in her own head!!!!! I get where it’s coming from but I hope she can let go and let herself be loved… Meanwhile, I’m still dying at Sawako’s awkward face she makes lol.
Kurumi really has problems lol. I mean at least she's aware of it- though to be fair she over criticizes herself. Cause she's bad but not as bad as she makes herself out to be. Def high maintenance though.
Volume two of Kimi no Todoke: Soulmate continued Kurumi’s and Eiji’s love story.
Ahhh I’m so glad that this series will be three volumes. Kurumi is such a compelling and relatable character. As always, I love characters that don’t think they’re perfect nor do they act perfect. So refreshing to have these anti-heroine stories but the only person she’s really fighting against is herself.
I liked reading about the author’s decisions into making this small volume. I can’t believe that it might not have been Eiji but a random character as the MMC. This pair is perfect and I can see no other solution to their stories.
I really liked the back and forth between the two main characters. As well as seeing them secretly pine for each other with Sawako as the in between. Very cute. Can’t wait to see how the story pans out in the next and final volume.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
I was a fan of "Kimi ni Todoke" when it first came out and I really enjoyed the first volume of this spinoff. This second volume is also delightful!
Sawako’s cousin Eiji is now protecting Kurumi from the guy who was stalking her in the last volume. Their relationship slowly moves forward, despite Kurumi frequently "pumping the brakes." She's like a feral cat that Eiji has brought home and is trying to befriend.
I love getting to see Kurumi's progress with being more open with others and allowing them into her life. Eiji seems like a wonderful match for her and I'm eagerly awaiting the next volume to see where things take us, the readers!
liking this a lot, but kurumi's inner conflict is getting a bit dragged out like the guy has confessed 3 different times and explained his entire love life and personality to her but she still doesn't get it. it's whatever though i'm happy to have more kurumi and eiji 😋😋 every sentence that comes out of eiji's mouth is flirty i literally have the cheesiest grin on my face whenever they're together. they're honestly perfect for each other omg i was geeking out when eiji said he was also testing whether kurumi would go to the party and that she shouldn't tell him how he should feel. love eiji like kurumi makes it so difficult for him but he just does not care and still likes and thinks about her constantly, and he's so communicative and tries so hard not to upset her 😸
I hope this spin-off is long becausw I really like Ume. She is such a real character with flaws, selfishness, kindness and a lot of complicated feelings. It makes her story interesting and i want to see her growth
