If I don't like someone; I kill them. If someone interrupts me; I kill them. If I get angry, sad, or creative; I kill them. You see a pattern emerging, right? I don't care for people, they irritate me. I am feared, I am hated and no one dares to challenge me.
She doesn't fear me, she loves to challenge me. The strange thing is, she doesn't hate me, she loves me. She loves this monster?! And people think I'm loco.
Elizabeth
I was born and raised to be his, no one will ever understand him like I do. We are made for each other, he just doesn't realise it yet. I will show him just how perfect together we can be. My love, my forever.
It's not every day the world's most dangerous man and woman fall in love and you know what they say? A couple that kills together, stays together.
This is a romance like no other. A dark, disturbed & wonderfully insane love story.
WARNING
Contains violence, explicit sexual situations, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and very mature topics. Recommended for ages 18 and over.
I'm a self published author. I fell in love with reading as an adult, when I found the romance genre. I immediately got sucked into the stories and fell in love. The romcom, the dark, the Suspense, all of them!
I struggled a lot with reading and writing when I was younger. Being dyslexic made it extremely hard for me, but I loved writing stories even then.
I wrote Rise Above in secret too scared and embarrassed that it wasn't good enough, that people would laugh at it, at me. My husband pushed me to take the leap. So I did. Not having an editor to start with and a friend making my cover it scary jumping into a world your unsure of what to do. Learning as I go. Its the best decision I ever made. The response was amazing. I am currently working on the rest of the series. And plan on writing until I run out of words. I love it and one thing I've learnt is you only live once and you should to do what you love and what makes you happy. I hope that people enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.
You have to admit the turnover rate in this gang gotta be high with the amount of dead bodies coming out everyday.
Anyway, I don't know what to say about this book other than it made me laugh on several different occasions.
My first impression though, I can tell it was trying too hard on being 'dark'. I mean, it is dark. Our heroine did some of the most creatively gory stuffs to some people here. But the shock factor quickly mellowed down when the same thing happened every day. He shot people in the head, she went crazy and then, he called her 'loco' (a word that is so overused, it lost the original daunting effect).
Basically, it didn't have nuances that I always associated with dark gory romance. Everyday is a killing day and there's no slowing down with these people at all.
But, I do appreciate the stupid chuckles it got out from me. That alone worth so much more.
Jesus is a psychotic loose cannon and head of the Mexican cartel Elizabeth is his equal in every single way. An unapologetic serial killer with a messed up backstory she is a strange mix of naive innocence and deranged killer, she acts completely in the moment and almost seems childlike in her many varied reactions she’s definitely not quite sane that’s for sure. Raised with the expectation that Jesus is the king to her queen she leaves him an enticing present that only he could appreciate and also an invitation to play the resulting aftermath will be gloriously bloody and totally crazy and proves that there’s a HEA for the most extreme of people even these two psychos.
I actually really enjoyed this it was totally nuts and over the top but it actually made me smile a lot on account of the sheer ridiculous mayhem and antics of Jesus and Elizabeth themselves. It was all sorts of gory and unapologetic and ever so wrong it just felt right so much so that I bloody loved it, the sheer madness and extreme emotions just worked for me and the humour here took away from the graphic full-on depictions. How something so graphic and full-on could have such a sense of fun and lightheartedness I don’t know it just did and I’d definitely read this author again.
Be aware this one is not morally in any way right the heroine and hero are both completely psychotic and all sorts of bad and make no apologies for this, they say there’s someone out there for everyone and these two match in every way.
This is my first book by this author and as a reader who loves dark reads I now know I have been missing out on someone special. I understand that Jesús is in another series called Satan's Outlaws and whilst I didn't feel like I missed anything in relation to this storyline they will be my next book from LG Campbell.
From the start I could tell this was going to be a fabulous dark book but also that Jesús is completely unhinged. I can honestly say I haven't read a love story like this before. The way his lady love enters his life had me giggling with inappropriate glee. Elizabeth is special in every way I loved that her type of crazy matched his every step of the way. Who knew serial killers and an uncontrollable passion could be so entertaining.
I LOVED this book so much that when the end came I felt slightly bereft.
What the hell did I just read?! It was all shades of fucked up which wasn’t the issue but I just really didn’t like the writing style 😐 I was super tempted to quit but I wanted to see it through and I kinda wish I didn’t bother. I don’t understand all these 5* reviews though. Never read any of her other work and this book has made me not want to either. I felt like I was reading a poorly written fanfiction. Tiktok definitely oversold it to me 😒
This is by far my favourite read of 2022 so far, and is now firmly in place as one of my favourite books I've ever read. It's honestly so good that I don't even know where to start my review.
So, L.G Campbell had me instantly interested when at the start of Loco we have 'To Get You In The Mood' which is just quotes from serial killers. Jesús and Elizabeth are insane, depraved serial killers who are perfect for eachother. This is one extremely bloody and gruesome story that won't be for everyone, and some of the methods they used to kill were definitely...different. But it's also hilarious, there were so many times that I cracked up throughout this. Oh and they also have some super steamy scenes.
Simply put, I completely lost myself in this. It was everything I love in a book. If you're a fan of dark romance, gruesome stories, inventive killings and don't have any triggers - this is an absolute must.
Bloody genius. Campbell writes hypnotically dark. Loco was brilliant and enthralling. I couldn't put it down. The plot was fast-paced and everything I didn't know I needed. Jesus and Elizabeth reminded me of Joker and Harley Quinn. Dark, funny, and spicy, this is not something you'll find anywhere else.
This story is an absolute hoot! Even though there is a very serious storyline running through this which shouldn’t be taken lightly the characters of Jesus and Elizabeth still had me laughing out loud! Their antics are completely unhinged and somewhat sociopathic but this story is written in such a way that you are completely sucked in by their almost childlike excitement at their adventures and especially Elizabeth’s over enthusiastic giddiness! Jesus can’t believe that there exists a female version of himself and so he embraces everything about his Queen!
Both of them are emotionally immature, lacking in any kind of nurture or love and so it is almost charming and sweet as they come together as a couple…..almost!😉
This is very dark in places but the humour lightens it and it reminds me very much of a horror comedy film. It’s fun, bonkers and a quick read. I’m looking forward to see where Ms Campbell goes next with this new series.
Jesus is certifiably insane. He kills without remorse and doesn't give a second thought in doing so when something even slightly upsets him. So when Elizabeth pushes her way into his life? Everything gets turned upside down for him. Why? She loves him and the monster he is, especially since she's one herself.
Jesus is someone I thought was irredeemable as a character. But despite him not changing who he is, he's still redeemable with Elizabeth. I wanted to hate Elizabeth, because she's too happy and bubbly. But she's just as twisted and sick as he is, and they work insanely well together! I was so surprised with how Jesus took her on and the amount of steam was incredible.
The plot is fairly fast paced, but since the story focuses on Jesus and Elizabeth building a relationship, there isn't a lot of forward movement in the story. This just leads the readers to focus on their relationship instead of anything else that's happening.
I freaking loved this book! I was so excited for this book after reading the Satan's Outlaws. I still haven't forgiven the author for the Wes incident in those books but DAMN! This book was everything I was expecting it to be and more. We all knew that Jesús was a bit unhinged but after seeing him with his lady, I think I fell in love with him. Elizabeth I absolutely loved and I loved that her crazy matched his psycho. They were a match made in insanity! If you haven't read any LG books, then what the hell are you waiting for! Highly recommended and I hope we see these characters again in another book
I was not a fan of this book. I finished but I should of stopped. This was incredibly fast paced. You had no time to sit and think before it moved on to another issue. Also, why all the killing? Elizabeth (h) annoyed me as well- very pick me behaviour.
I like crazy as much as the next girl, and I do love myself some insane main characters — while I did enjoy them to an extent in this book, they just fell short for me personally.
There is a distinct lack of commas, which in itself isn’t a problem — except there’s so few I’m unsure whether it’s intentional or not, which makes me unsure how I’m supposed to interpret what is written, and how it’s supposed to be read/spoken.
The book itself lacks plot (fifty percent in and there doesn’t seem to be a plot except for these characters, which don’t really have the drive to run that by themselves at this point); but it is entertaining in a simple way. It’s a quick, fast-paced read, simplistic in what it is.
As for the horror elements, I’m not especially impressed. It feels like it’s supposed to be disturbing and gory, yet it’s too fast-paced and not enough details to leave an impression. It’s there and gone in the blink of an eye, and without that second look you sort of don’t understand what it is you’ve just seen.
The erotic parts are underwhelming. It’s very clear they are supposed to be rough, yet except for being described as such, there’s not much else to back the statement up.
The thing about fast-paced books with sex-scenes are that they often get rushed to the point they don’t feel worthwhile. While there are quite a few descriptive scenes in this book, there is also a lot of scenes where it’s insinuated what they will be doing later or does right after the chapter ends (without an actual written scene about it) and those almost gives me more than the actual written scenes.
It was actually quite funny, so it had its moments. The MMC was a trigger-happy dude, and it does get pointed out that if he keeps killing his own men (as he does very often) they’ll run out of people — but then it just continues and it’s never mentioned again how they keep finding people who (1) is willing to work for them, (2) they know are loyal or at least trustworthy, or (3) people with experience — aka that can fight or shoot or anything. There’s just a general lack of information I suppose.
The big celebrity scene was also quite shock-hilarious, but ended as soon as it began — which seems like a trend in this book.
I don’t usually pay close attention to spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, so when I do… it’s a little problematic. Especially the switch from present tense to past tense in the same sentence. I personally don’t mind a few mistakes, they happen to the best of us, but at least read over and try to fix some…
The ending was… something. Once the big plot was revealed I found myself intrigued, but I swear the conclusion took me like ten minutes and then it was over. I feel like there’s a lot that happened, yet at the same time nothing. It left me more confused than anything.
If you’re looking for some quick entertainment without a lot of thought to it, this might be what you’re looking for. For me, it lacked too much sadly.
I don't know what the hell that was, but it read like a Wattpad novel. The dialogue was juvenile and the plot was barely there. Plus, the errors. My god, the ERRORS. Autocorrect should've caught at least SOME of them.
I can't stand the MMC. Why does he have to kill everyone around him? Hmmm? Instead of looking bad and 'loco' as he says about him, the scenes are actually cringey and funny. I don't have time for this.
* I'm not going to rate it since I read less than 50%
I hated this in a way that truly odd. I mean i completely consumed it but dear god they shoot everyone like especially the people who work for him. Isnt that counterintuitive? Idk they crazy and not in a good way.
The storyline was fairly good and exciting, but it felt a bit rushed. From the very start the characters became so infatuated with each other that Jesús was trying to solve Elizabeth’s past. To me that appeared to be a bit odd, especially as he was the leader of a mafia. I would’ve thought that he’d put more distance between them initially and then get closer over time. (Take this with a pinch of salt because I normally read slow-burns and generally longer books!) In addition the ‘rushing’, I felt like we didn’t get to see much of the actual hunt for the child trafficking ring and “Uncle”. The whole point in the story was about finding these people and helping Elizabeth, so maybe slow down and describe what the journey was like. Did they meet any dead ends? Were there any life or death situations? Did they get double-crossed? How difficult was it to find the individual people? Overall, the ‘hunt’ almost looked easy for them. If you think about it, these people that they are trying to find are infamous for being borderline impossible to find and catch. They cover their tracks so that they are never found. I know that Jesús has more access to information by being the leader of a mafia, but it should’ve still been extremely difficult.
In my opinion, it felt like the author was trying to hard sometimes. I know the story is called Loco, but the word was generally a bit overused and it felt more like a fun nickname than a genuine description of how insane they were. Also there were some moments where the whole dark and evil aspect felt a bit lost. It was almost overly gory. If it was toned down a fraction in some areas it might’ve had a better effect. Despite this, I thought the “Uncle” could’ve had a much more brutal death. I don’t think that he got the torture and suffering he deserved.
The epilogue was a bit of a cliché because I didn’t think that having a child fit their psycho personality or lifestyle, but the ‘pedo-hunting’ in the field was almost comedic in a twisted way and was very fitting.
However, overall I generally quite liked the characters and the whole “touch her I kill you” trope. I liked that Elizabeth had an almost ‘childish’ and girly side. The Disney Princess themed dresses sounded really cool and I could easily picture them in my head. Jesús’ reaction to Elizabeth always made me smile because it was oddly sweet but twisted (I will admit, some of the scenes had me giggling). I loved how compatible they were and that Elizabeth wasn’t just an innocent little girl like other mafia stories.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’m going to preface this by saying this book is for mature audiences only.
First off, I sort of question my mental state after reading this because I probably shouldn’t have enjoyed or loved most of this book due to how … um … graphic some parts are.
I knew, going in, that it was going to be a bit dark and twisty and so my concern was if I was going to be able to finish it without being triggered and then those thoughts went out the window the minute games started being played in a slaughterhouse.
It’s dark and twisty and makes Harley Quinn look like a Disney Princess. Jesús is like Massimo from 365 dni but darker and a little more twisted. (Now I really need to go back and read Hidden Truths)
I’m still trying to process this read but holy shit!
The infatuation between the two is kind of sad but in a way where you feel for them which is in turn why I question myself for feeling sympathy over two serial killers. Maybe I’m a little loco.
And yes that is 6/5 🌶! Because 😮💨 move over desks, hello car hoods.
I highly recommend you add this to your TBR Lists or pre order it!

LOCO, the first book in the Nefarious Souls series by L G Campbell is coming March 8th!
🔪Crazy obsessed anti-hero 🪓Stalker serial killer heroine ⛓ crazy fucked up love 🪚NOT FOR THE LIGHT HEARTED
** WARNING ** Dark Romance. Contains violence, explicit sexual situations, some more gruesome violence, disturbing, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language, so if you don't like the word fuck this book really isn't for you and very mature topics. Recommended for ages 18 and over.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and honestly can’t wait to go and read her other books because this was alsorts of special 🖤
From literally the first page I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. When you first read the title you think ok a bit LOCO but know these 2 characters are so LOCO it was epic! They are both trigger happy, crazy serial killers with a thirst for blood and death. They also have some serious dark kinks between them which tbh when reading where pretty 🥵🥵🥵
I don’t think I’ve read a book quite like this where they are both crazy and dark but yet I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time. That is a talent right there to write something so messed up but have your reader laugh at the antics. It was frigging awesome!
I mean Jesus was all tall dark and deadly then you get Elizabeth who was so high up in the clouds and everything around her was like the imagination of a child with the dark and deadly sprinkled on top and wrapped in a bow. I loved the interactions between the 2 of them, how the relationship blossomed and just how perfect they where for each other.
Such a fabulous read and I can see it being a favourite of mine 🖤
This is an MF duel POV dark read with trigging themes so please check them out first before diving in.
I can’t praise this book enough and deserves more than 5⭐️ it was truely incredible!
I received this book from LG Campbell in exchange for an honest review.
Spice Rating 7/10 ( I personally like more spice and steam) Book rating: 5/5
Let me start my review by saying " A couple that kills together, stays to together" This book gave me the Bonnie and Clyde and feels, but a darker version. It was such a page turner that I couldn't hep my self reading more as the story of Jesus and Elizabeth progress made me want to know more about them. I honestly like the theme of the book involving Mafia wars, revenge, killing for fun, but that just me. This book has a trigger warning: This book contains murder, blood, obscene language and scenes.
The beginning was just fun and Games for Elizabeth and Jesus, who knew these two had a darker past that helped shaped who they are now. Falling in love was not a part of Jesus life, he never let anyone in until Elizabeth came along.
LG Campbell's writing made their story alive and let s not forget how spicy this is. I would definitely recommend this book to romance reader who are looking for twist with their typical love story. I repeat this is not a typical love story, but go ahead dive in and you'll see what I mean.
We have met Jesús before in Lauren's Satan's Outlaws series and let me tell you I hated him in the beginning of that series! (IYKYM!! 😱😭) The last time we met him, in that series, I was intrigued by him. I hadn't completely forgiven him but I was really looking forward to this book and to really delve into his mind to see why he was the way he was. And this book gives you the insight.
I thought going into this that it was going to be him stalking an innocent woman and making her fall in love with him and then bring her over to the dark side. HOW WRONG WAS I?!?! (Also the graphics and teasers leading up to this books release was just *chefs kiss* 😍😍) I have never met a couple that I can hand on heart say are actual soul mates. Like, these two were made for each other and as the title suggests they were both VERY loco for each other.
From the books I have read of Lauren's, I think this is the darkest to date. It was very, very dark and I loved it. How Lauren can write a book so dark and still make it have humour is a talent! If you like plenty of angst, humour and 🔥🔥 then you need to pick this book up!
I really did enjoy this book and glad we got Jesús's story. Have I forgiven Jesús for how we met? Definitely not. Did I love his book? Hell yes! 🖤🖤🖤
Jesús If I don't like someone; I kill them.
Elizabeth I was born and raised to be his, no one will ever understand him like I do. We are made for each other, he just doesn't realise it yet. I will show him just how perfect together we can be. My love, my forever. It's not every day the world's most dangerous man and woman fall in love and you know what they say? A couple that kills together, stays together.
Wow did the author take me on one hell of a ride and I went through a few emotions with this book. The characters were amazing and the chemistry is off the charts. The personalities between the two characters was very comical and very entertaining. L. G Campbell is a fantastic author and this is just another example of her fabulous work. She's certainly takes you on one hell of a ride.
For those who love Good Girls, the male character in this is base off of Rio. It's definitely on the darker side of things, which normally I love. It wasn't a bad read and at first I thought it was interesting and fun, but as I read, it felt like it's a little too over-the-top for my liking with some mental instabilities mixed in. More "how crazy can we make this" and more for shock value.
Personally, I didn't get any Rio vibes from this at all, he felt way too unstable with very little reasoning for what he does and I had an extremely hard time connecting the two. Obviously they're NOT the same characters at all, but I think I might have liked it a little bit better if I didn't know he was based on Rio because my brain kept trying to find that connection.
'Loco' kind of makes me think of certain movies or books (like Den of Vipers) where they're not bad if you shut your brain off and don't think about it too much. So if someone can do that and likes doing it and doesn't mind serial killing, then I think you'll like this.
Loco is a serial killer, dark romance, told in a dual POV. It’s the first book in the Nefarious Souls series but can be read as a standalone. There are some triggers so please check them out before reading.
We first met Jesus in Hidden Secrets, he’s a Mexican Cartel boss who is absolutely ruthless. Elizabeth is a Disney princess obsessed serial killer and makes Harley Quinn look positively sane.
I’ve absolutely loved reading Loco. It’s a fast paced, completely enthralling ride that i couldn’t put down, I absolutely devoured it. Jesus and Elizabeth are one dark crazy couple and as dark as the book gets, I still found myself laughing hysterically at some parts. I loved their chemistry and the fact they never judged each other. They are just perfect for each other. This is an incredibly well written, delicious dark steamy ride and I really can’t wait to see where LG Campbell takes us next in the series.
Holy Freakin Heck! I'm getting all the Joker and Harley Quinn vibes but on blood-filled steroids!!! Does Loco fall in the grey? Heck to the freakin NO. It's dark, it's twisted, it's violent, it's bloody, it's riddled with dark humour, and it's deliciously sexy.
Am I Loco for loving this book? Possibly. Do I care? Not even for a second. I loved every blood soaked second.
Elizabeth... girl you be unapologetically LOCO but damn I love your crazy ass. Jesus, can I be you when I grow up and just start popping people off when they annoy me. haha.. Jesus is dark and twisted but oh those few little softer moments he has with only Elizabeth slayed me. The chemistry between these two is everything, and I loved the acceptance, understanding and loved they shared. If dark and steamy romance is your vibe then this is the book for you!
I thought I knew what I was walking into reading Loco, I thought I knew what to expect, oh how very wrong I was This book made me question my own sanity!!
I loved the chemistry between Jesús and Elizabeth, I loved that fact they never judged one another even in their wildest moments!
I loved that Elizabeth was so unapologetically aware of how crazy she was…and that she was never shamed for it!
The dark humour throughout the book was amazing!
If you are not a lover of some very dark moments, and a lot of sex then this is not the book for you! But if you have some questionable tastes then I can assure you that you will love Loco!!
I just want to preface that when filling out the ARC form for this book, LG Campbell put “if you don't like the word fuck this book really isn't for you” and I got so excited because my favorite curse word is fuck!
If you were to tell high school me that I would truly enjoy this book I would have laughed in your face, as I didn’t enjoy anything related to dark romance. This books give you so much dark romance and spice it makes you question your sanity as you have two serial killers falling in love with one another.
You’re probably questioning why I have such a colorful background but the cover reminded me of Día de Los Muertos which is super colorful and full of life 💀
••• I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review•••
The characters were immature. Jesus would just shoot people for no reason? Talk about a big man baby who doesn't know how to process his emotions.
Elizabeth was quite litetally psycho. Which I get it, the name of the book is "Loco". But that word got real old, real quick. The way she talked irritated me. The over use of "my love" while referring to Jesus. She was very childish. Literally acted like a child. It gave me the ick. She reminded me of a knock off Harley Quinn.
The line "You're playing a dangerous game" was over used, it got cringey after awhile.
I love dark romance, but I feel that this could have been executed better.
No hate to this author, and no hate to anyone who enjoys this book. I personally just didn't care for it.
We've read about the hero in the Satan's Outlaws series. He's a ruthless and scary Mexican Cartel Boss.
Elizabeth and Jesús are really loco. In the beginning of the book I thought "who the heck is this woman", I mean Jesús by himself is already giving me goosebumps. Imagine how I felt when reading about the heroine. She a tough cookie for sure.
This was really a dark read with bloodshed and psycho moments. The H and h are a very good pair. They're made for each other.
Excellent read.
Note: Please read the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, there's a lot. This is a real dark'ish book.
