Brant Harkrader is done living by other peoples’ rules. He may not know exactly what he wants out of life, but he’s perfectly happy letting that question figure itself out while starting a new job as a tour guide.
Too bad the one thing he does want—his sister’s BFF—only sees him as a little brother.
Or so he thinks…
Kellan Shelby-Briggs has never shied away from going after what he wants. And what he wants is the important contract that will put his brand new company on the map—and Brant.
Too bad Kellan’s career keeps yanking him away just as things heat up between them.
Now that Brant is back in town—up close and personal in Kell's living space—can they finally get the timing right to go after the love that has eluded them both for too long?

This one is all on me, again. I kind of enjoyed this book. But these kind of slow, low angst stories, which were my favourites before, just do not work for me anymore. I enjoyed this book but there was nothing special about it. This was really sweet but I think i’m over these type of stories. I just need a little more substance.
My review will mostly be things I enjoyed about this book because there was nothing wrong with this book. It just didn’t work for me because i’m not in the mood for this kind of story, but I keep reading them because they used to be my favourites. But if you’re in the mood for a very sweet, low angst and low conflict story, this one would be perfect. I think what i’m realizing is that I don’t really want to read about people and their regular life, which is going perfectly and they don’t have many problems, I need a little conflict or something. I need something to be not perfect. I just wasn’t very invested in this book but there was like nothing happening ever.
Brief summary Kellan is 26 and he owns a urban design and landscape architecture firm. Brant is 21 and he’s a tour guide. They both have been crushing on the other for ages because Kellan is Brant’s sister best friend.
First, I’m canadian, so it was a given that I would love the setting of this book. Nelson is a small remote town and it reminds me of where I live, so I just adored reading about the town.
Second, most friends to lovers books have the dynamic where one has been in love with the other for ages and the other never felt anything for him. It makes the dynamic feel so one sided. I loved how in this book, they both had been crushing on each other for ages. It was so lovely to read about.
Third, These two were really sweet together. They had lovely chemistry. They always listened to the other and were there for each other. And they always defended the other when needed
Fourth, I really enjoyed how Brant’s trust issues were portrayed. He has a controlling step father who kept telling Brant he never did anything right. Because of that, Brant is independant and doesn’t want anyone to control him. His trust issues from that were portrayed nicely and he always tried not let them control him. I liked that he felt the need to run sometimes, it felt so realistic.
Fifth, they relationship was too smooth and easy for me. They were friends, they both had a crush on the other for ages, their feelings just developed into love and they fell into a relationship. I would have prefered a little conflict instead. And pining. Anything more than the nothing we got would have been appreciated.
Sixth, there was barely any sex scenes in this book, most of them were fade to black and the ones included were fine but nothing to write home about and I just wanted more. Since there wasn’t much happening plot wise, I would have liked if the sex scenes were crazy hot, to distract me from the lack of plot points.
Seventh, I really wish there was something happening in this book. It felt like nothing hapened, ever. Even the conflict with an evil parent was so washed down and didn’t bring me any excitment. This book was about regular people and their regular issues and it just didn’t work for me. When I got to 80%, I found myself wishing a break-up would happen, just so that something happened. And I hate break-ups at 80%, so thats tells you a lot.
Eight, this is a personal issue but I swear I might explode if I read any more book where the only source of conflict is an asshole parent. It’s so overdone and it just gets on my nerves now.
This book was really sweet but it didn’t held my interest and I found it quite boring, I just wanted something to happen, for once. But it was sweet and if you’re in the mood for a low angst book, this would be perfect for you.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
This was okay. I typically like Amy Aislin a lot, but this series is not hitting home for me.
This book was fluffy, sweet cotton candy but it was boring. There was no chemistry, no passion, no pining. No “oh my god I’m finally with the man I’ve had a crush on since I was a teenager.” Sex scenes were bare or fade to black, which surely made those feelings worse.
There was a lot to like though, with many absolutely adorable scenes and astoundingly adult communication. I appreciated that so much.
However, the story focused far too much on both Brant and Kellan’s jobs, and drama involving Brant’s mom and step dad who were honestly both horrible, and Brant had the right idea going no contact with them prior to the start of the book. He should’ve stayed away.
Other than the very brief appearance of Kellan’s mom and Brant’s dad’s new wife, the two female characters were not...great. This is something I seem to notice a lot more right now. The reason I strayed away from hetero romance to queer romance is due to the stereotypes female characters would get shoved into, as well as good ol’ sexism and misogyny. In this book the woman of child bearing age has a thousand kids and is pregnant again, and the author does not let you forget it. The other woman, Brant’s mom, is honestly a horrible mother, and old fashioned in that she just wants a man to take care of her, make all her decisions, and “understands finances.” And if that man is an absolute POS to her son, that’s fine by her. What. The. Fuck?
Anyway, my overall thought is that if this had focused far, FAR more on Brant and Kellan’s growing relationship, it would’ve been far more enjoyable, as they were both very likable characters. Even the epilogue somehow managed to not really be about them.
I loved this book, very simple, without much angst between them. Apart from the toxic relationship between Brant and his stepfather (who's a disgusting character), the reason for Brant's removal from his hometown for years. Kellan and Brant have had a crush on each other for years, but they've spent years waiting for one of them to take the first step. With Brant's return to the city, a possibility opens up. Highly recommended book I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Well this was a straight up enjoyable friends to lovers, basically angst free. Kellan and Brant have both had their eye on one another for a long time, and their relationship slides from friends to more so easily. I love how supportive and caring they both are, and I love how Kellan totally has Brant's back when it comes to people not treating him right. The cover is cute, and the story made me feel good. I loved it.
This is such a sweet read. I love Kellan and Brant's friends to lovers story. I have been on a kick on reading low angst stories and this is such an amazing read. I love seeing how they startbout as friends and grow into more. Amy Aislin has made such a fun read that I just love.
This was such a feel good story! Keeping Kellan, like Keeping Casey, is a light, easy, delightful read. It was so nice to see a different side to Brant than what we saw in KC. (You don't have to read KC to appreciate KK, though don't worry! But it was nice to see some of his college friends again!) Although I think you could tell there was more to Brant than what met the eye, who knew exactly what a sweet, somewhat vulnerable guy he'd turn out to be.
Sometimes I just want to read a book that's light on the drama and free from angst- give me a story about 2 people falling in love with minimal trials and tribulations and I'm a happy camper. Keeping Kellan fit this bill perfectly, especially when it came to Brant and Kellan and their relationship. But there was some tension with Brant's family. While family drama can tend to put a strain on some relationships, I liked how it actually brought these 2 closer. I loved how protective Kellan was over Brant, willing to stand up for him, no questions asked. Brant needed someone in is corner, and it was wonderful to see Kellan step up and be that person. Brant's reactions to some of the things Kellan said and did tugged at the old heart strings!
I really enjoyed watching these two fall in love and realize it was mutual. I'm glad the story was told from both their points of view- we knew Brant had been crushing on Kellan for so long, it was nice to see it wasn't completely one-sided!
Keeping Kellan was such an enjoyable read, a nice escape from the real world for a few hours.
I’ve read this author before. This is a mm contemporary romance story based in Canada. This story takes place 3 years after Keeping Casey. Main characters are Brant and Kellen. Brant we met in book 1 keeping Casey, and Kellen is best friends with Brant’s sister Wendy. Friend to lovers and told for duel POV. Both come with baggage, but over come or accept their issues to be together. A great story. Can’t wait to read more.
Loved getting to see this different side of Brant after he was introduced in Keeping Casey. The gang in that book was so wonderful and Brant getting his happy ending makes me so happy. Like with all of Amy’s books, you can’t help but feel good after reading them.
What a very sweet read Kellan and Brant is. They are a friends to lovers and sisters best friend trope. Very low angst. Just and overall sweet read to leave you smiling. Oh and a very adorable Ollie. Lol. Yes I’m a sucker for dogs.
The very low angst comes in with Brant’s step dad and his mom. I am very much enjoying this series and hope there will be more in the future. I adored catching up with Our friends from Keeping Casey as well. So sweet and such great old and new friends
Whenever I start a new Amy Aislin book (which is whenever she releases one, or, when I’m lucky enough to get an ARC, like in this case) I know I will be sucked into the story and glued to my Kindle from the first to the last pages. Her writing style is catching and engaging and her stories are always fresh and entertaining. Case in point, Brant and Kellan’s story is a sweet, very low-angst tale of coming together when the situation is right for both men. If you read Keeping Casey, you may remember Harkrader, Ethan’s teammate with the homophobic stepbrother, who was pining for his older sister’s best friend. Well, here we are, we meet Brant Harkrader, who is now back in his hometown looking for a fresh start, which brings him in very close proximity to said older sister’s best friend. What he doesn’t know is that Kellan as stopped seeing him as a kid or a little brother for some time now, As a matter of fact, he sees him as a man he can have a future with and now that he has Brant back within reach he can start to woo him to make that happen.
This one is more problem-light compared to Keeping Casey. Once Kellan and Brant decided to give it a go, they didn't really meet (or create) obstacles for themselves. There was one point where I thought Brant's "not-wanting-to-be-controlled-or-being-told-what-to-do" would be a source of fight because Kellan wanted to protect Brant, but it didn't happen. So yeah, this one was more smooth-sailing.
I wish there was better solution for Brant's mom's issue though. But I realized that even in life, it couldn't be perfect all the time.
Thank you Snow Jingles from Goodreads Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2025 for this book
The characters were OK and the general plot was alright but for me this was kinda disappointing. The pace moved way too slow. Like glaciel. The focus was largely on their jobs and the relationship just seemed to take a backseat. Even once they got together, which was a long wait, it still was way overshadowed by everything else going on. Also, too much fade to black and off book mentions of romance which the plot definitely could have used more of. I was more intrigued by the scenery being a fellow Canadian and the cute dog so that's probably not what the author was aiming for. I didn't hate it but I probably wouldn't recommend it. Not sure if I'll continue to read this author as I wasn't overly fond of book one either. Though I did like it better than this one.
(Okay, so now I'm going to admit that I went down a rabbit hole of reading gay hockey romance novels. I decided to admit it - but won't write real reviews. They were kind of like watching Hallmark movies - nothing very bad ever happens, and the slow-burn aspect is kinda cute. Not recommending them to anyone, but they were a great way for me to end 2025.)
Okay, Big Data, thank you for suggesting Amy Aislin. Her novels have just enough slow burn and sweet romance (Warning - yes, there is also occasional random graphic sex), and they all take place in the same world, so characters pop in and out of all of the books. It's been a great month reading through all of her works.
Okay, that's the last of my Amy Aislin books for 2025 - I'm sure there will be more to read this time next year. This was a nice follow-up on Brant Harkrader with Kellan Shelby-Briggs.
I have to be honest, Brant stole the show for me in Keeping Casey so I was ecstatic he got his own book and what a heartwarming book it is. I love him to pieces, and even more, I love how Brant found his person in Kell, a true friend, an amazing partner, and an incredible champion. “I see you, Brant. I hear you. Even when you don’t say anything, I hear you. And if it’s important to you, then it’s important to me.” Gah, these two. With Kell and Brant—and of course, Ollie—around, there’s only joy and warmth and love. They had me smiling while I read and that same smile will follow me into my dreams.
My Recommendation: This one was a bit of a letdown after how much I enjoyed Keeping Casey. The main characters were okay and the storyline was fine, if a bit slow. It's hard to put my finger on what exactly it was, but I think the fact that it didn't have the same passion or pacing as the first book and Brant and Kell's jobs played such a big part, it just left me wanting. I'll definitely keep an eye on Aislin in the future, but not sure I'll go out of my way to do so.
My Response: After thoroughly enjoying Keeping Casey, I knew when the next one was released I would jump at it. So, when it came up on Gay Romance Reviews I did.*
This is the story of Kellan, the quiet brooding friend and teammate of Ethan from Keeping Casey, and his childhood crush Brant, a landscape architect in his Canadian childhood hometown. They've both been crushing on each other for quite a while, Kellan since he was a pre-teen, and the timing has finally worked out when Brant moves back home to get away from his post-college life.
I repeat, I love Amy's books so much!! This one is set 6 years or so after the first book but seeing the guys again is oh so very sweet. I want more books Amy!!
This was so sugary sweet, that I believe I have cavities! It was book a filled with various components, where nothing was missed. No crazy climaxes, but life's issues and problems are covered. This was my first time reading something by Amy Aislin, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Former Hockey Player and someone who has a Mind for Business, Brant Harkrader has left his corporate job in Toronto to move back home to Nelson, BC. He knows it will be a huge shift financially and professionally, but he is not prepared for the reality of it. When a childhood crush, asks him to move in with him, rather than living at his sister's place with her three kids, he reluctantly takes him up on the offer. However, what he gains from the support, his new job, his friends, and some members of his family, is more than he could wish for. It might just change his life...
Architect and Self-Made Business Owner, Kellan "Kell" Shelby Briggs has something to prove himself, ever since he moved back from Vancouver to Nelson, BC. He is licking his wounds but also trying to establish his new architectural firm. His ambitions are huge, and lean towards national and international projects, but he is wary as well due to past incidences. When his best friend's younger brother moves back to their hometown, he sees a chance to maybe find what he is missing in his personal life too. Will Kellan be patient or jump in head first to attain what he thinks he needs...
The blooming romance, understanding, and friendship between Kellan and Brant were great to see. Even though they have known each other all their lives, they have developed into different individuals due to their life experiences. The encouragement and faith that they have in each other was wonderful, and their love as it grew was beautifully depicted. Amy Aislin truly showed what people face in their day to day lives and how those concerns should be handled with honesty, forgiveness, and acceptance. Also, I loved the fact that the book was set in Canada and had many reference to this amazing country.
However, I would say that with all the superfluous details, which were at times necessary, the heat between the characters was sometimes amiss. It is very clear that the authoress has done her research and extensively at that. Nevertheless, I wanted to see more human interactions rather than additional features about urban design planning and vacation tours.
If you are looking for a M/M romance that is super sweet, real, contains full support, awesome friendships, good family, and some fun, then this lengthy read is worth it!
Well, really my only issue here is with the title. It should be called Keeping Brant because Kellen? He’s a done deal here. Has been for years since he realized he saw Brant as more than his BFF’s younger brother.
So the question here? That’s Brant not Kellen. So yep, a definite change up in title needed.
Otherwise, this is a splendid story that sees us catching up on the lives of the group of men from Keeping Casey. It’s been a while, they’ve graduated from Glen Hill College and moved forward with their partners and future plans.
As with Brant, those years has been ones of growth and now he sees himself ready to move forward again, this time in a familiar direction… home and new opportunities.
Aislin opens a path into Brant’s world with this story, one barely hinted at in the first novel. Now Brant’s past, present, and , his potential future is laid out in all its pain, love, familial dysfunction , and emotional distress. It also includes his boyhood crush which has never faded. And who now has returned as well. Aislin’s writes this all so superbly that you are pulled into Brant’s world and situation, feeling easily a part of it.
Yes, I googled that region even. I could go there, indeed I could.
Then there’s Kellen, the crush. Kellen, an immediately likable and connectable character, is one with a few painful layers himself. Although not as many as Brant.
The story and the men’s relationship begins immediately as they reconnect over a drive home from the airport and bond over Ollie, a “shared dog” and just great chemistry.
Through obstacles and new challenges raised by career changes, this pair grows together by using communication and love to get stronger and solidify their partnership. I just loved that.
No failure to talk things out, no childish misunderstandings. Just two adults working together towards a loving, mutually respectful relationship. Sigh. More pls.
And they treat others in the same manner. Be still my heart.
Ok, yes. I’m so happily on board here.
Even if Keeping Him series stays at two novels , which I expect it won’t become there are others unattached, this is absolutely a book and series I recommend.
Keeping Him series: Keeping Casey #1 Keeping Kellen #2
[I received a digital arc for an honest review] Keeping Kellan is a stand-alone MM romance by author Amy Aislin. However, if you have read any of her past books you'll see some friendly faces, which I always love.
Brant has had a crush on his older sister's best friend Kellan since he was 10. Little does he know that Kellan has also been looking at him as more than a friend for a few years now. Brant has quit a corporate job and moved back home to figure out what job would actually make him happy. When Brant's sister's house has too many residents for his comfort, he takes up Kellan's offer to room at his house. Kellan sees this as the perfect opportunity to "woo" Brant and explore his feelings. Yet with both of them in the beginning of important steps in their careers will they have time to figure out if their attraction and feelings are worth risking the friendship they have built. "He refused to acknowledge that Kell's smile made him want to rub up all over him."
Keeping Kellan is a low angst friends to lovers romance with the "sisters best friend" trope adding into the mix. Both men were endearing, and you can't help but cheer for their happily ever after. Brant is so sweet and the man must be a saint to put up with all the garbage from his stepdad, step brother and even his mother. I LOVED that he separated himself from the toxic family members in his life, even if it hurt not to talk to his mother. Mental Health is so important, and I was so proud of him for taking the steps he needed to. Thankfully he had support from his sister, friends and Kellan. Kellan who was absolutely charming. The slow way he "woo'd" Brant was precious even if at first Brant was a bit oblivious to it. Even before they admit their feelings to each other the two of them made a great pair, wait I have to include their ever present pup Ollie, and call them a trio. :) "You're the one whose shoulders could probably hold the weight of the world." "Not the world's. Just Yours"
Keeping Kellan is low drama and mild steam making an easy friend that will give you a warm feel. Filled with friendship, support, pup love, and copious scones, Keeping Kellan is a guaranteed quality romance.
Keeping Kellan is a friends to lovers, long time crush, sister's best friend MM romance with a dash of small town and sweet storyline. Thank you to Amy and GRR for providing me a copy to review!
In this book we have Brant (who made his appearance in Keeping Casey) and his childhood and current crush Kellan. Brant's been nursing feelings for his sister's best friend since forever but never imagined that those feelings could be returned. Kellan is five years older than Brant and he looked at the other man as a little brother for a really long time, until one they he saw the wonderful man in Brant and started to see him in a different light. And now, Brant moves back to their little town... and into Kellan's house after realising he couldn't bear his little nephews and niece at his sister's house.
They slowly realize how great they work together as roommates and make the other know about their feelings. It's just the matter of time to see how they can work together as couple both busy with their careers.
Brant has family issues which highly determine his personality. He's fiercly independent and has issues opening up and showing his vulnerabilities. It was nice to see how he dealt with his step dad who is bully and his mom who does't really stick up to him. It was also nice to see, though he never wanted anyone seeing his weaknesses, with the right person showing his true self was good rather than the terrifying thought he imagined. Kellan also has his trust issues but his originate from a work situation a while back. He buries himself in work to prove the world he can make on his own. Though he might not realise that he doesn't have to proove anything he jsut needs to find balance so that he can be happy.
The story beautifully showed how two people can make each other happy with support, trust and love and when you are with the right person some things, like big family moments, or small stolen memories are way more important than a career or making others see your success.
I love this story. It was heartwarming. I felt that the story a little bit dragged, especially at the beginning. It was maybe a bit lacking the excitement factor. But still, it was a great book. A lovely, emotional, clean romance. I do recommend this book!
Readers looking for a satisfying, low angst, slow burn romance, will absolutely fall in love with Keeping Kellan. Kell & Brant are simply wonderful in every way - they’re careful and considerate but not in a way that diminishes their connection or chemistry. Oh no, definitely nothing lacking there. When the sparks start to fly, these two are all in.
From the first time Brant mentions his long-term crush in Keeping Casey, I was curious. Was it one-sided? Superficial obsession? Did he have a chance or was this guy truly out of his league? Then I met Kell, and he was NOTHING like I expected. He wasn’t condescending or clueless, in fact he’s smart and grounded in a way that made me relax, because his emotional maturity is reassuring. He appealed to me as the perfect balance for Brant and the emotional baggage he carries thanks to his stepdad, Jerome. Kell cares in a way that’s supportive and strong but not overbearing; he lets Brant be Brant, and he offers up his own vulnerability to level the playing field.
I find it rewarding in romance when the author builds a couple that becomes a unified force, facing sources of conflict that are external rather than internal. The fact that Brant and Kell weather these obstacles together rather than against each other makes it 100x more satisfying when the resolution arrives. They’re better together, and that shines through in all they do.
All in all, one of the things that won me over most about this story is how real and genuine these guys are. There’s very little pretense or pretending. Amy Aislin makes it clear from the beginning where they’re at, what they want and whether or not they’re willing to work for it. So, that’s it - read this one. You won’t regret it. And once you do, you’ll understand why it’s time for me to make ALL the scones. :)
Note: I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Brant and Kellan's sweet small-town romance was so much fun to read!
What struck me about this story was how natural and realistic it felt to me. Instead of the romance being manufactured around the main characters, I felt like I was just watching Brant and Kellan's lives unfold in real time. These ambitious, driven men were so passionate about their careers that it was hard not to fall in love with them immediately, and when their friendship turned into something decidedly more romantic I was thrilled. Brant and Kellan were hesitant in their initial confessions, but once they decided a romantic relationship was what they wanted they were all-in. I never worried that a simple misunderstanding or fight would break these two apart because the bond they shared was rock-solid. It was a joy to see them navigate life together and enjoy the simple, little pleasures of being together. Kellan's design work was fascinating to read about, and I also loved seeing Brant develop his own business idea and make a success out of it. Not even the tense relationship Brant had with his family could bring this story down--on the contrary, I loved Kellan even harder for protecting Brant from the toxicity. This wasn't one of those stories where the villains had a dramatic change of heart or the main characters heroically saved the day, but that honestly made me love it more. Brant and Kellan were only human, and though they fought for the things they cared about, they also accepted when their best effort didn't get the results they were hoping for. It was that sense of reality that made this romance so special to me and made me so happy to see Brant and Kellan build a life together.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
This book was such a delight to melt into! Romance is special, but to find someone that will put you first, and have your back, makes that relationship precious. Brant has been neglected by his mother when his vile stepfather constantly tore him down. His mom chose to look the other way, and let Jerome criticize, and control her spirited son. Fortunately, Brant’s sister Wendy is a wonderful woman who unconditionally loves and supports him.
Kellan is starting up his own business in urban design, and is really stressing under the pressure. He has been best friends with Brant’s sister for years, and jumps at the chance to offer his home to Brant who has recently moved back to their hometown. It doesn’t hurt that he has been interested in Wendy’s younger sibling for a long time. What I loved about this book is that Brant has also been crushing on Kellan forever. Both have it bad, and they are absolutely clueless. Brant is doing a temp job working as a tour guide but, like Kellan, he has bigger dreams for a career that he controls.
This story was warm and fuzzy, interlaced with some sad, and bittersweet moments. The romantic elements started out slowly, and the couple felt so authentic together. Brant needs someone to support and defend him. His nature though is to be defiant when told what to do, thanks to his stepdad’s domineering personality. Kellan is fiercely protective, and you can hope that together the men grow stronger by putting away the negativity surrounding them. This novel was a sweet, great flowing story that was beautifully written. I highly recommend this little treasure. Happy reading!

Keeping Kellan sees Brant Harkraker move back to his home town and gratefully accept an invitation from his sister's best friend, Kellan, to stay with him instead of his sister, her husband and three young children. They have the chance to build on the friendship that truly started to grow a few years ago even though they've known each other since Brandt was young. Both men are working towards a better future for themselves, Brandt having left a toxic work environment and Kellan having just started his own business. It gives them an understanding of each others work ethic, sometimes to the extreme, something they don't necessarily get from others. Their attraction is there from the start of the story and simmers quietly in the background until the have the confidence to move their friendship in a different direction. I really enjoyed these two characters. There is a real ease in the way that they get along and spend time together as though it's no effort at all. They're very strong willed in what they want but have learned to protect themselves after harmful behaviour from others in their past. Brandt's bully continues to cause trouble and affects relationships with others. What makes Kellan different is how quickly and staunchly he comes to Brandt's defence but at the same time doesn't take away the independence that Brandt has fought to gain over the past few years. Overall, this is a great friends to lovers romance, it was so easy for me to get into and enjoy. There's a good cast of characters along the way, including some met in book one of this series so it was nice to get to interact with them again. Definitely another recommended read from this author. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I could almost repeat word-for-word (except for changing the MCs names) the review I did for Keeping Casey, the first book in the Keeping Him series. The books absolutely standalone but Amy Aislin fans will enjoy the references to some familiar characters from other books.
Keeping Kellan is a low angst, sweet-with-heat, slow-burn, friends-to-lovers story that ticked so many boxes for me. There aren’t a lot of sexy or explicit scenes in this book but I like those kinds of stories a lot. Sometimes is great to just let your imagination fill in the blanks.
Kellan is Brant’s sister’s best friend. They’ve known each other for years. The five-year age difference was a lot when they were young; not so much now, though. Brant has been crushing on Kellan forever but he had no idea that Kellan’s view of their friendship changed a while ago.
Brant’s step-father is a jerk and so is his mom for not sticking up for Brant when he was young. Even though Kellan lived next door he didn’t know how badly Brant’s step-father was treating him. Now that he sees first-hand how things are he is quick to come to Brant’s defense.
I could go on and on but I won’t. I’m just going to recommend that you read this if you enjoy a good slow-burn story with beautiful and descriptive writing, great characters and a wonderful HEA.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
ENG- So well well well... well I really like Amy Aislin's pen and this time again I loved this romance. I really liked the first book and I must admit I was eager to learn a little more about the character of Brant.
I got very attached to him and really enjoyed his relationship with Kellan. I appreciated that they didn't turn around for 107 years and that the story was more about their relationship than getting together.
We learn a lot about Brant who was a pretty enigmatic character in Keeping Casey and I really liked the way the author deals with her relationship with her family and especially her mother.
Once again the author gives us a very cute romance in the tradition of her previous novels.
I loved Brant when I ‘met him’ in book 1 of this series, so am happy he’s getting his own HEA, in this story that picks up several years later. I enjoyed this low angst, feel good friends to lovers romance, with its strong emphasis on family and found family. Kell and Brant are both good guys who are passionate about their work, and each other.
I liked how Kell and Brant’s past experiences impacted the way they react to situations in the present. I thought that was realistic, but I also liked how they were finally both able to move forward and put it behind them. I enjoyed how they danced around their mutual attraction, second guessing that the other felt the same way, but that part of the plot didn’t drag out. The issues they had to work through felt real and every day, and I really liked that they talked about things rather than let miscommunication become the plot.
I enjoyed catching up with Ethan, Theo, and Casey from Keeping Casey, and loved the supporting cast of Kell and Brant’s friends and families. Except for Brant’s stepdad, Jerome. He’s not a nice person, and I felt for Brant with his mother taking Jerome’s side to keep the peace, and how Brant lets her get away with it. I liked how that part of the story played out. It felt realistic, yet built bridges too.
Wendy, in particular, totally rocks. I’m hoping Carter gets his own HEA. I liked him. Ollie needs a mention. He’s totally a character in his own right and an integral part of the story.
I loved the epilogue. It was a perfect glimpse of the future for Kell and Brant.
