In 2045 America is ruled by ‘The Brain’. It’s a country of dried-up rivers, computer project educations, holographs, and robots. Most species have died off and even fresh air is scarce. Children don’t form bonds and therefore can’t love. They become drones – dangerous killers. The answer lies on a road in Pindar Corners but to find it is to risk the loss of your soul.
In need of a hero, Harry Erin Cooper steps up to the plate and, along with his wife, Adina, they restore what should have been.

Review: I enjoy reading sci-fi stories. Recently I got my hands on Vera Jane Cook's "Nobody's Road". 2045 is the year where America was ruled by The Brain. There are poor kids or privileged kids. Privileged kids are referred to as the Computer Project Babies. By passing the necessary tests, these kids could choose their profession. Harry is a cartoonist. His parents advised him to marry so he received a few female files among which Adina Cordova's file was the one that won his heart.
When Adina found out that Harry didn't have a soul file, she got upset and blocked Harry from her Moon list. But Harry's father told him that his soul file is not deleted, rather, it's kept hidden. Adina realized Harry is the man she wanted to marry. Soon, they became husband and wife. Adina has a purpose to destroy The Brain. She was secretly teaching the soul file to the children even though there is a risk of her own life in it. Read this story to find out what happens next.
Vera Jane has done a fantastic job in this book. The pace of the story is fast and I didn't feel bored anytime while reading it. Language used in the book is lucid and I was able to follow the story easily. Length of the book is 165 pages so one could finish it in two or three sittings. I appreciate the author's vivid imagination in creating this intriguing fantasy world.
There are very few stories that have the power to hook the reader's attention from the first page. In Pindar's Corners, there are four roads: Hawthorne, Spruce, Robin’s Nest and Nobody’s Road. Nobody lives on Nobody's Road but as per the rumors, there is an old storage unit on it. When Harry Erin Cooper was jogging, he heard gunshots. Carl Lansing was frightened. His wife Susan and his daughter Katie were lying in blood. Carl's son Corey was carrying a shotgun in his hand when Harry visited inside Carl's house. The next moment everything was black. Why a ten-year-old child carrying a shotgun?
This is a gripping and unputdownable story. The storyline is unique. The story kept me on the edge as I read it. I was really curious to find out what's gonna happen next. Narration is smooth and strong. World building is superb. Once I started reading this novel, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The author has won my heart with her writing style. I am definitely interested to read more of the author's work. Those who love to read Science Fiction should add this book to their tbr. I am sure readers would love this story set in the future.
Nobody's Road written by the author Vera Jane Cook is a Sci-fi fantasy fiction story. The year is 2045. America is ruled by "The Brain". Most of the species are extinct. Rivers have dried. Vegetation has rotted. The Brains control the news that people receive. Every day murders are happening and most of them are done by the children.
The Brains don't allow children to bond. Even though Adina is a journalist, she can't report it. Whatever is typed in the computer is read by the Brain and they delete the news related to report of any murder. Harry Cooper was looking for a wife. When his eyes fell on Adina's file, he was immediately attracted to her. Harry put efforts to make Adina his wife. He succeeded and they had a beautiful wedding. Read this story to know about the common mission of Harry and Adina.
The plot of the story is unique. I enjoyed every bit of this story. Cover photo of the book is nice and the title is suitable. Writing style of Vera is amazing. Characters are well written. Adina's character is my favorite. Those who love reading sci-fi stories should get their hands on this book right away.
🍷To all the curious readers, this book will blow your mind totally and completely. This is such a well weaved story that is filled with tons and tons of surprises. A story of coming age where the scenario is way more scary but that's the reality and it at times bought shiver to my spine, because the writing is so sharp at times that everything feels so real. . . This book is sort of lesson of how bad things can turn and it just changed something in me while reading. It's a very interesting blend of dystopia, mystery, dark thrill and has a soft emotional side to it, that adds a different touch to the book. . . The storyline is plotted in layers so you don't really realise what's upcoming on the next few pages. This book was an absolute suprise and it just awakened all my senses while reading it. A bitter realisation and a fast paced read that will surely glue you till the end. Go for it. It's definitely recommended. . Rating: 4.25⭐️
“We’re being eaten, Harry. Everything beautiful has been taken from us. We’re robots on the earth paying credence to a leader we’ve never seen. Even melody is gone. You don’t know music at all, you know.”
This brilliant dystopian novel has it all. Mystery, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Emotion and all these wrapped up in a well-written story.
The creation of the characters seemed like it was so carefully chosen and analyzed. I liked Adina the most.
I loved that it was a bit moving towards the end between Adina and Harry. Shocking ending. The battle between science and religion was an excellent theme. I like dystopian ideas that reflect reality.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Voracious Readers Only, and it was a great read. There was the familiar premise of AI taking over the world with the expected bad results, but the author produced a really frightening view of the future with class segregation, relationships requiring requests to be approved, and children becoming murderers. The solution started to become obvious, but the method of achieving it was not. Throw in some elements of Quantum Leap (TV series) and I was taken on a rollercoaster ride. And I was not expecting that ending.
Wit and banter really shined through in this story. It helped with some relief from the dark and dreary. It’s an adventure that isn’t too out there. Computers and a dystopian world that is not that far off from something that COULD happen. The author’s ability to travel in time and space while creating a vivid new world is a real work of art. The characters life choices and through their journey becomes the most endearing character of all.
As an avid reader I was pleasantly surprised after I started the book, it pulls you in. Creative spin with a great concept. The plot, storyline and writing were solid. The character interactions were interesting. The story moves right along. I liked the pacing.
I love to read scifi fantasy mashups. It’s tougher these days to find something unique. I liked that this one brought something new. The plot, the characters, and the world are well developed; the first two in enjoyably unexpected directions. I liked how the story moves right along.
He jogged quietly along the country roads, enjoying the innumerable smells that perfumed the surroundings.
Then suddenly, a shot, then another, followed by a shrill cry...

Here is an astonishing and original dystopia that draws the reader into a story set in the near future.
Several current topics are judiciously adressed in the first part of the book. The background story is captivating and the main character is endearing.
Then the novel switches to fantasy in the extraordinary and surprising second half of the book. I was pleasantly surprised and amazed ! I didn’t expect this ending either...
