The narrative thread: quilted and stitched artworks in Idaho

Rate this book
Exhibition part of the Capitol Exhibitions Program and produced by the Idaho Commission on the Arts, the Idaho State Historical Society, and the Capitol Commission.

"The story quilt project started ten years ago and this book is a culmination of not just those ten years, but a lifetime of stories. My hope for this book is for anyone reading it to see how stories truly are the closest distance between two people. Once inside of these pages, the stories and images will transport you to another time and place. I have such deep gratitude for the artists and storytellers you’ll meet on the page, who painted pictures with their words when I asked what tastes and smells and sounds they remembered. I can still remember what it felt like to be in that room, listening as each artist called back the color of the river, and sky, and their family homes, or the sudden stillness in the streets or the bustle and waiting of making a new life in a new place. These stories are filled with joy and deep longing. I know they will move you. For years these quilts and stories traveled around the state and beyond. You're luck to have the chance to hold them in your hands and be able to come back to them over and over." -- Maria Collins

Beautiful book sharing the experiences of refugees that moved to Boise. I appreciated the pictures of the artists in the back of the book and the courage they Gad to share their stories.
