Roads Less Traveled #4

Phoenix: A Roads Less Traveled Novel

Rate this book
"PHOENIX is the kind of psychological thriller you don't expect in a tale of the zombie apocalypse; Dulaney's got parallel paths to hell, and they're all great rides." -Thom Brannan, author of SAD WINGS OF DESTINY and LORDS OF NIGHT

They know the end is coming, and they know who is behind it. They think they have a Plan. A way to stop the men and women who are trying to destroy every single human being on the planet. Only those who are Special will be spared, and only they will be left to fight for the fate of their kind. Except... we already know that even the best-laid plans usually unravel in spectacular ways.

In PHOENIX, the Roads Less Traveled universe is expanded in unexpected ways, the events of which take place parallel to the events of Books One, Two, and Three. We will follow a new cast of characters, led by Brad Lincoln... though you may receive a visit from some old, familiar faces. Those of you who have followed the series will recognize our protagonist, Brad, from the ending of SHADES OF GRAY. It is his story we will see, and how his team fought to the very end to save us all.

And you will also find that Kasey, Brad, and everyone they hold dear may be in for a world of hurt down the road...

“Crisp, elegant prose makes this zombie novel stand well above its peers…” - R. Thomas Riley, author of IF GOD DOESN’T SHOW and THE MONSTER WITHIN IDEA

"In the latest Roads Less Traveled book, C. Dulaney mixes in a little bit of The Dead Zone and a dusting of Fringe to give a bold new flavor to the zombie apocalypse." –Peter Clines, author of the EX-HEROES series and 14

Once again, need to review earlier books in the series for a refresher since 2013 before moving on to book four; "Phoenix". Flashback to the beginning pre-apocalypse. Book four chronicles our boy Brad having precognitive dreams of the coming disaster. It details Brad's version of Books 1, 2, and 3. Brad's friends are a group of psychics who use their powers to search the future to identify and prevent upcoming disasters. As the virus spreads and the dead begin to rise the book takes on more of a zombie novel. Brad and his friends are fleeing the zombies and looking for safety. Through a stunning change of events and revelations Brad & friends have now been recruited to help with and protect the Phoenix initiative instead of interrupting and destroying it. Left with this cliff hanger there must be another book coming to detail this new situation. We shall see.

The Roads less Traveled universe has expanded, and in a good way.

Phoenix takes us down a different path, following the roads traveled (get it?) by a new set of characters that are integral to the world and its subsequent zombie apocalypse created by C. Dulaney. Oh, but the characters from the first three installments are not exactly forgotten in the shambles, either. For astute readers, a few little puzzles from previous books are solved.

And the twists don't stop there. We get more than a glimpse of the psi, people gifted with extra-sensory powers. If you want to know how they fit into all the mayhem and roving dead, you'll just have to grab a copy and read!
