The handsome gentleman is none other than Matthew the Duke of Abernyte and Violet finds herself beginning to lose her heart, even though she knows such a thing can never be. Matthew is quite certain that his time at war will help him with his responsibilities back in London. Matthew has been working to find a traitor who is working for the French but his leads lead nowhere. When his interest in Lady Violet seems to drive her away from him even further, Matthew is certain she knows something important.
The fourth book in the series & at last Abernyte’s story. I loved both Matthew & Violet, he's been focused on bringing traitor's down but has started to feel envious of his friends’ happiness & then he asks Violet to dance. Violet lives in terror of her horrid brother but a maid's words give her food for thought & the beginnings of a rebellion start to form. I loved how Violet grew in confidence & found the courage to defy her brother whilst fighting her attraction to Matthew. They were an unlikely couple but the more the story unfolded the more they were perfect for each other. A well written captivating read which I read in a sitting finishing it well into the night

I loved both Matthew & Violet, he's been focused on bringing traitor's down but has started to feel envious of his friends’ happiness & then he asks Violet to dance. Violet lives in terror of her horrid brother but a maid's words give her food for thought & the beginnings of a rebellion start to form. I loved how Violet grew in confidence & found the courage to defy her brother whilst fighting her attraction to Matthew. They were an unlikely couple but the more the story unfolded the more they were perfect for each other. A well written captivating read which I read in a sitting finishing it well into the night

A FITTING END👏👏
This is the final book in her series Soldiers and Sweethearts and it ends the series with finding the spy within the ton and also a Sweetheart for the Duke of Abernethy.
This is a really sweet book and it showcases Mathew's character really well. He's got this slight flirtatious attitude and a whole lot of insecurities especially when he compares himself with the others from his spy ring. This is interesting - as dukes are always portrayed as the creme de la creme of society and oozing with all that is confidence. I liked the hopelessness and the impatience he shows and how he's constantly corrected by his friends - Lord Ware and Marquess of Stratham. The active involvement of Lady Ware is a really nice and apt touch.
The heroine is Lady Violet, the Earl of Dennington's sister. She is pretty much under her brother's thumb and he's cruel and abusive towards her. I liked how her strength increases to stand up.for herself and face her brother. Well done,Violet. 👏
My grouse across this series is the lack of romance completely. There's little to no chemistry between the H&h. The plot carries the book through, even though its juvenile and immature.
This is a decent , fun series and overall 4🌟🌟🌟🌟 . - obviously some parts are better than the others but , everyone of them is a clean, quick.read.
Recommended :👍but in order would be great.

Wow! What a great way to end the series. This book grabbed my interest from the very beginning and all I could do was hang on for the ride. I understood Matthew’s frustration but could really have shaken him when he wasn’t really listening to Violet when she needed him to concentrate. The ending was great and I loved the ‘take-down’! This has been a wonderful series and I highly recommend it.

Lady Not Brave Until the Very End
I think I've read every other book in this Napoleonic War spy romance series, and I've had mixed feelings about them. I’ve read this author for years, and I usually enjoy her stories. In general, the ones in this particular series have been too heavy on the spy element and light on the romance. The Duke of Abernyte, the hero of this story, has been a part of every book in this series—whether by mere mention or actually as a small part of it—so I was curious to read his romance. I was very disappointed, unfortunately. While the heroine is certainly sympathetic, I just didn't like her. The Duke of Abernyte is such a strong character that he needed a strong heroine to match him. This heroine, despite the title, was not very brave until the end—and one might say her “brave” act was foolish. In fact, she is one of the most milquetoast heroines I've read in romance, and that is not a good thing—at least in my book! Her older brother is abusive, physically and emotionally, so her very bland, meek character is understandable and sympathetic—just not terribly interesting! The brother is so evil that he's unbelievable; even villains should have more than villainy as shades of their characters. I would definitely caution readers who've had any physical or mental abuse in their lives to stay away from this book as it may be triggering. The evil brother is even physically violent on-screen. I like seeing this series wrapped up, with the bad guys caught, but I didn't see the necessary growth arc in the romance to believe these two actually fell in love, and the book ended abruptly. While other series by this author have been fantastic, I do not recommend this particular series or this book.

This is the fifth book in this series and I really feel they need to be read in order. All the books have their own main characters but the story is about looking for spies against England and carries thru all the books. There are no cliff hangers in any of the books.
Lady Violet Milgram is the sister of the meanest, nasty and cruel man in England. Lord Dennington thinks only of himself and what he wants. The servants also live in fear of his anger.
Her only friend is her maid, Mary who knows how her brother uses her. When she is ask to dance from a man, she has never met she is shocked !! He turns out to be Duke of Abernyte and is very handsome. As Violet is never noticed at any of the balls she accepts. Violet is very fearful of what her brother will say or do. When he is not upset but tells her to get to know the Duke, she knows something is very wrong. There is more than one mystery she needs to figure out. Why her brother is acting so strange and why the Duke acts like he really wants to spend time with her. If only she had someone, she could talk to...
The Duke of Abernyte has been trying to catch a spy group that is in England. Just when they thought they had him their information proved wrong. After being at a event he wakes to find he was given something at the ball. Only a brave young Lady can save him at great risk to herself.
This is a great mystery, love story with Lord and Lady Ware showing up again to help out.
We learn just how hard life was for some Ladies during this time. This is a fast-paced story and you will find it's hard to put down. With the mystery, a building love story and an evil person set out to
ruin everything it's a must read.

“A Lady’s Brave Heart” is the 5th installment and fantastic addition to Rose Pearson’s “Soldiers and Sweethearts” series about protecting England from invasion by France during the Napoleonic Wars. It is a another example of Ms. Pearson’s superb writing talent and storytelling ability and yields a tale you can’t put down. Her well developed and likable characters keep the action brisk and draws the readers into the intrigue. with mystery and romance thrown in. You will not be disappointed this book along with the previous 4 in the series.
Matthew, the Duke of Abernyte. who is working for the Crown exposing French sympathizers among the ton, is at a ball and to avoid a notorious widowed flirt he suddenly chooses Lady Violet to dance with. She cannot refuse the Duke, but she is worries that her brutal brother will be unhappy about it and punish her. During the dance Matthew is quite takes by Lady Violet and decides that her wants to see more of her. It seems that Violet’s brother, for some unknown reason, wants her to further the acquaintance with the Duke. At a dinner party that Violet and Matthew attend, she and her maid rescues him from being harmed after her brother drugs him. Discovering her brother is again planning to harm the Duke, she take it upon herself to save him regardless of what harm may come to her and is instrumental in thwarting her brother, ending the story with an HEA.

Loved reading this series!
While this is the fifth book in the series, it can be read singularly as there is enough needed information given from the previous stories for the reader to be comfortable in following the storyline. However, with this particular series, I’ve found that reading the books in order gives me a clearer insight into the characters and their actions, being able to recall why they feel a certain way or how their thinking leads to new conclusions or worries. Having various characters make appearances or being referred to is less confusing when reading the series in order.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this collection of ‘Soldiers and Sweethearts’ and the thread of mystery that has wound its way throughout all five books. While each books has had its angst and character challenges, this one was more emotional due to Violet being an abused sibling who is terrified of her unscrupulous brother. She inadvertently draws the attention of Matthew, the Duke of Abernyte who works for the crown on the home front in their fight against Napoleon. Finding herself drawn to this man begins to give her the strength to attempt to intervene in order to thwart her brother’s treachery. At the same time Matthew struggles with his own doubts and challenges. Spy rings, terrified victims, a brave maid servant, unscrupulous villains, and the crown’s men determined to be successful - what more could a story offer?

Outstanding Story of Matthew and Violet . . .
Lady Violet has a very cruel brother and knows to fear him. His temper is well known, and he keeps a constant watch on his sister, not hesitating to punish her.
Matthew, the Duke of Abernyte, works for the Crown to uncover French sympathizers, spies and traitors to England, among the Lords. They captured the last known spy and don’t have any ideas as to the person who has taken his place. To avoid a woman he did not want to see, Matthew asked for a dance at the ball with Lady Violet and she feared her brother would be angry. Instead, he encouraged her to get to know Matthew better. However, at a dinner party that Violet and Matthew both attend, her brother drugs him and she must decide if she will risk her own life to do the right thing. She must save the Duke regardless of what harm her brother may do to her and stop her brother from carrying out his traitorous plans. Will she be successful? Will she save the Duke’s life? Will they find the leader of the espionage activities?
This author is such a favorite of mine. Once again, her stories are intriguing and well-written. The danger and suspense is interwoven with romance and keeps the reader deeply involved in the outcome. Grab your copy and see if there is a HEA awaiting Matthew and Violet.

Another absorbing story from this wonderful author! Violet lives a life of misery at the hands of her cruel brother. She meets the Duke of Abernyte at a ball under unusual circumstances and the two of them develop an interest in each other. Frustrated and lonely, the Duke finds himself seeking Violet’s company, while he and his men are still trying to learn the identity of the man who is the British contact for the French spies. When some strange things start to happen, he realizes that he is in danger. Poor Violet! She lives in constant fear of her brother, has no control over her life, and is miserable. During the course of the story, we see just how clever she really is, and watch her meekly struggle to find her voice. on the other hand, we see a very different side of the Duke. He shows a vulnerabilty which is not evident in previous books, and comes across as a ‘man on a mission’, rather than a ‘man with a title’. There is a sense of foreboding hover over this story. It feels like something bad is going to happen any minute now. Of course it is well written, captivating and the perfect length to read in one sitting!

This is the fifth and last book in the Soldiers and Sweethearts series. Although it would be good to read the earlier books first, I feel you could read and enjoy this book by itself. Each book concentrates on different characters each of which is trying to find spies in England who wish to help the French invade England. Some characters make appearances throughout the series.
Lady Violet Milgram’s brother is cruel and controlling. She fears for her safety and also thinks he is doing something very wrong but does not know what it is.
The Duke of Abernyte is the leader of a group of noblemen who are trying to find the men who want to help the French invade England.
Violet and Matthew meet unexpectantly at a ball.
Can Violet overcome her fear and tell the Duke about her suspicions or will fear win out? Will Matthew stop long enough to actually listen to Violet?
This is a lovely sweet clean story which I really enjoyed reading.

Spies are finally revealed in this last book of the series. At times I was frustrated with the h because she lacked back bone in the beginning. As the story progresses you see her growth from being afraid of her verbally abusive brother, to wanting to protect the H.
This is a clean story with only kisses at the end. Even though last book of the series, it is a stand alone story.
The brother of the h was overheard stating, what they had planned for the H was going to come about because of the h would do it. Of course, there was a twist here - no spoiler - but I wanted to know what they meant.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some unique parts, romance builds slowly and clean. I can't improve on the blurb so just giving you some other insights. I would liked to see an epilogue, even a few months into the future to see how the h handled the "ton" in her new position.
Ended at 87% on my e-reader - rest blurb for another book. (ljb)

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some unique parts, romance builds slowly and clean. I can't improve on the blurb so just giving you some other insights. I would liked to see an epilogue, even a few months into the future to see how the h handled the "ton" in her new position.

A frightened, abused young Lady finds her courage
The author did a fabulous job showcasing just how an abuser treats his victim and the methods employed to keep her in line. Poor Lady Violet has had a miserable life. She is completely controlled and isolated by her cruel brother and is terrified of him. The characters are very well written and I cheered Violet on as she tried so hard to be brave. It was great to see some of the main characters from previous books, especially Lady Ware, return in this one. The Duke of Abernyte is joined by the Marquess of Stratham and Lord Ware in finally figuring out who is leading the group of traitors working for the French. It came to a dramatic conclusion and the Duke finally finds his perfect mate. A wonderful conclusion to the series.

What a delightful conclusion to another well written series by Rose Pearson. Finally, the Duke has an opportunity to find out just who is the head of the group of people helping the French to invade England's shores. He accidentally takes advantage of a young lady by asking her to dance the waltz so that he can avoid conversation with a rather well known lady of London society. From there this story gives the reader just one adventure and heart stopping moment after another as the deceitful and traitorous group keep popping up one after another. Some characters from earlier books make strong appearances in this story, but the reader will hold their breath as our heroine faces one nail biting moment after another.

The book captivated me from the beginning and I read it straight through. A great Regency read. Traitors, spies and romance are an interesting combination in this book. This story holds true to the style of this author and the series which is enjoyable. This book can be read as a stand alone but it is much richer being read with the others in the series in order. The characters, plot and subplot are well developed and keep the reader engaged. This book has a great storyline. The hero is searching for a spy aiding the French. The heroine is a timid young woman who shows signs of being abused. A chance meeting throws them together at opportune times that lead to uncovering high espionage. Love a good spy thriller intertwined around a romance. Great book.

This was an enjoyable read. What a life Lady Violet endured with her cruel brother! It was a lucky chance that Matthew, Duke of Abernyte, noticed her and her life began to change for the better, although her brother is still domineering and abusive. Abernyte is still trying to find the new leader of the group who are working for the French. He is working with his friends, who featured in previous books and they are beginning to draw nearer to discovering who is the leader. Violet is trying to be brave enough to help in any way she can, while coming to realise how she feels about Abernyte and wonders if he feels the same. I did like how Violet came into her own. Lady Violet’s brother is a very cruel person so she lives in constant fear of him. Everyone in the house is afraid of his violent temper so they are very careful to do everything he request which includes watching every move his sister makes. Matthew, the Duke of Abernyte has been trying to find the traitor to England who is working as a spy for the French. The last spy had been captured and is currently being held as a traitor and they don’t have any leads to who has taken his place. As Violet learns more about her brother’s dark side, will she have enough spark to do the right thing even though it could cost her a great deal of harm, even her own life. A great series that I really enjoyed.

A quick wrap up to the series.
The characters were better matched. The Duke of Abernyte, and Lady Violet didn’t feel like a forced connection. I like Lady Violet; she could have been a complete shrinking violet because her brother being a disgraceful abuser. But she persevered and in the end, she was the one standing tall.
I do have to say that sometimes the men were so obtuse to what was clearly right in front of their face. The head of the traitorous spear was not the most inspiring bad guy, he wasn’t written to sound the most intelligent of men so him being the ringleader was a little bit of a letdown.
I do wish that there was an extended, perhaps set a few years out, epilogue.

A Lady's Braveheart is the 5th book in the Soldiers and Sweetheart series of books. This series is just getting better and better. I usually like all the heroines of Rose Pearson but I liked Lady Violet and though I can't help but feel sorry for her circumstances, I liked her all the more for the spunk she had shown despite of that.
The hero Duke of Abbernyte is familiar to anyone who has read the previous books in the series. He is sincere, sweet and kind. I have to say I didn't think too much about his intelligence but then this story does not need much of it being a sweet romance.
A clean, sweet entertainer, it will give you happy moment to get back to whenever one needs a feel good story.

Disappointing
The writing is juvenile and the dialogue is clumsy. There is no subtlety in the writing, no nuances. However, the story is interesting and rather original. There are certainly moments of intrigue and suspense. This may be one of the writers’s earlier efforts which may account for the mediocre writing. There were few typos which is definitely a plus. The characters were not well established; no mention was made of their background nor their setting, no description of their home or the existence of any existing family members. We have no description of either the main characters’ appearance, nor their age. It was difficult to visualize them. Because of this, it was difficult to empathize as they remained strangers throughout the story.

Who is the man Matthew is looking for?
Living the life she has been given is a challenge for our heroine her brother is so mean and hateful and she fears him so much. Yet when the time comes to save the man she has come to love Violet shows just how brave she is. This was really good mystery with danger and suspense with Violet, Matthew and his friends bringing the villain down. I like Violet so timid because of her brother yet she was able to work her way out of that cocoon she had been in. Excellent writing this is a book well worth reading. I love strong heroines and this one comes through as one of the best. Lady Violet has a cruel and evil brother and she is rightfully afraid of him. When she dances with Matthew, the Duke of Abernyte, at a ball, she fears her brother will be angry. Matthew works for the Crown, exposing French Sympathizers. Indeed her fears are founded for when she learns her brother’s intent to harm Matthew, Violet exhibits great courage, at a risk to herself, to save the man she has come to love. Intrigue and espionage add to this story of a sweet romance.

WOW!!! An amazing story of spies, traitors, treason and the evil and innocent presented. During a time in England where French spies conspired to invade. And the hunt continues. This story follows on the foot of the previous book "Healing the Earl" in the Soldiers and Sweethearts series. This book had me at page one. I was immersed in the story I read it in one sitting. One could feel the fear of the h Violet and the evil of her suspicious, arrogant bɑsŧarđ, violent, nefarious brother. After a serendipitous meeting between Violet and (H) His Grace Abernyte the evil plot got going. I was holding my breath between each scene. Which perfectly and flawlessly segued from one descriptive scene to another. The suspense and danger were unpredictable. The reader was intrigued and immersed in the emotions before one realized what was truly happening. Thus, Increasing the tension of that moment that could not be dispelled. A must read. You will not be disappointed.

I loved this story. Mathew, Duke of Abernyte and Lady Violet are a wonderful couple. I felt so bad for the living situation Violet had to live in. The way she and Matthew met was cute and he was so apologetic about it. I don't like Violet's brother at all. He was pure evil. It was nice seeing Lord and Lady Ware and Lord Stratham from previous books in the series. If you love clean Regency romance with some mystery and suspense, you will love this book as well as the previous books in the series. And even though this is part of a series, I feel it can be read as a standalone.

So good until the epilogue
This is the last in a series I haven't read, but it was easy to follow the characters and backstory. It was tense and exciting and I couldn't wait to get to the end. She should have stopped before the epilogue. The dialogue was so sappy and awkward and cringe at the end. The hero, declaring his love and proposing marriage, gives the heroine permission to call him by his title name, not by his given name of Matthew! Which she proceeds to do until the end of the book. It just hit a very sour note. But for the epilogue, I would have given this book 5 stars.

What a difference friends can make. This was an enjoyable read. I have not a clue as to why, but I never really connected with the characters, thus the 4 versus 5-star rating. I did get a bit tired of the inner dialogue; but we do have times when we keep having the same conversations with ourselves, at least I do. Happy Reading ! !

Lady Violet is a strong woman and I admired the way she lived under the watch of her brother, who was not a nice man. Matthew was a great man and I liked the way their relationship grew. This is a nice ending to the series and perhaps the best of the series. This just hooked me from the start and it is a great story. There is always danger and intrigue going on, this is more than just a regency romance. Great story.
