Comics communicate the Zen spirit perfectly. Laughter deflates pretension and a good rap on the head sometimes transcends so-called logic. In the words of Zen, "Nothing is left for you but to laugh!".
Continues a lighthearted - but deep - look at Zen. Would strongly recommend that anyone just starting to explore Zen give this book a read. This book will help you understand some of the core concepts in a way that is very easy and approachable. Often just 'flip' through just to keep myself 'balanced'.
Salajan's second collection (from 1982) of classic moments from the Zen canon, re-told in crisply-drawn and insightful comics. Best to read one or two each day. With tea.

WHY I READ THIS BOOK: After finding Volume I in Powell's one visit, I had to track this one down too (via some online used bookstore). A long time ago, I had purged almost all my books, in order to fit everything I owned into the back of my car. Mostly that was a good idea, but a book like this is good to revisit. Now it's on my shelf within easy reach.
Essentially the same as the first book. I think that I may have discussed the first one too much in the interim, as I knew going into this volume that there would be many references that I wouldn't understand—and as I read I mostly noticed those instead of getting what I could get out of it, with what I brought to the book already. Ah well! I was also sad to discover just after finishing this second book that the author, Ioanna Salajan, died a few years ago. :(
