Following on from the previous books in this series we now have Adele's story. A pilot, she had run back to Emerald Cove after finding out that her boyfriend was a married man. There she had taken over her mother's cafe, which she enjoys but finds very tiring , hard work. She meets a new resident to the Cove, Carlos, after he held her load a Christmas tree into her car. Full of the characters from the orbits books in the series it is almost like coming home again. The positive of living amongst family in a small community, but with the complexity of modern families with ex husbands, new wife's etc. I do struggle with the concept of Christmas being in the middle of summer as this is set in Australia though. It's always a joy to read a book by this author, and this is no exception. I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however this did not influence my review of the book.
I have really enjoyed this series but have mixed feelings about this book. Carlos and his grandfather are wonderful characters and I really enjoyed watching Carlos and Adele get to know each other and the way they supported each other and helped each other to grow. What I didn’t like was the way certain characters continued to allow others to walk all over them. It is one thing to forgive someone for a past wrong against you but you shouldn’t go back to the status quo. The arrogant, people-using ex and his lazy snob of a wife need to learn boundaries, manners and to help with family events or be excluded from them. It also set a bad example for the younger generation. Good for Sarah’s husband for putting his foot down. Overall a nice conclusion to the series except for Cindy and Athol not learning how to stand up for themselves.
When I saw this book title, I immediately felt happy to be back in Emerald Cove for Christmas. Admittedly, here in the US, Christmas is not hot as Hades but in Australia where all the events happen, it is HOT. I loved the idea they were surfing, walking beaches, riding bikes in high temperatures, and, enjoying evenings on the patio or porch. I could taste the eggnog with some spike; loved the family gathered for Christmas; and, most of all when there was a morning breakfast that family could drop in for breakfast. I did feel a lot of remembered emotions of exhaustion when dinners were planned and made with a baby on your shoulder. Been there: done that! Thanks for a wonderful story-line that brought emotion, family and love.
It was so nice to read about Emerald Cove again. This book has some familiar as well as new characters. Carlos and Adele begin a friendship that quickly turns to something more. There is family drama that comes to a head during the Christmas season. You almost feel as if you are in Australia enjoying the weather and the beach. I have enjoyed the Emerald Cove series and always look forward to new books by Lilly Mirren. I received a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
This book is full of family drama and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. Carlos and Adele's story was full of emotions and it was wonderful to return to Emerald Cove and catch up on the characters and meet the new ones. I loved this book and the entire series. I received a complimentary copy and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Another great book sad to see this series end. It could definitely continue at least one more book. All good things must come to an end I suppose. Love the way she develops the characters and adds new ones into the main story.
I really enjoyed this series; however, I do not like the length of each book. Altogether, this series would make one good book. This has become a $30 read and I won't do it again.
I have enjoyed all the Emerald Cove books, but I especially enjoyed the timing of this one. Just before my Christmas, I got to enjoy one set in the Cove. Lovely realistic interactions between family etc. And a good romance for Adele.
