Baytown Boys #6

Because You Stayed Here

Rate this book
Will the new year bring us a new start?
Or will we just end up rehashing old wounds?

I've always loved my hometown of Baytown. Sure, it's small, and it hasn't always been easy being gay here. But my family and our farm are here, surrounded by a gorgeous lake and landscape.

I used to be surrounded by the gorgeous love of my life, here, too, but it's just my luck that I fell in love with a guy who hated it here and couldn't wait to leave. After we graduated, Vance pursued his big city dreams and became a real estate investor.

But now, ten years later, he's back to visit his parents for the holidays... and to buy my family's farm!

We have so much to fight about that I can't believe it when we end up back in bed together. Except that I kind of can, because our chemistry is still off-the-charts hot, even if we can act like Ice Queens trying to freeze each other out sometimes.

Can we work out our differences and rekindle our decades-long romance in time to heat up our winter, or will Vance leave me out in the cold when he returns to the city yet again? Because as we get closer and closer to what we had before, or something even better, I can't help wondering:

Will I unravel his hopes and dreams if I ask him to stay through the new year?
Or will we unwrap the gift of happily ever after together this holiday season?

Because You Stayed Here is a standalone small town, opposites attract, male/male second chance romance that combines humor, heat and heart.

It's Book 6 in the Baytown Boys series. It can be read alone or with others in the series... and a tall glass of water to cool you off after so much steam.

I hated to give such a low rating, but I couldn't get past all the errors. Mixed up pronouns being the major factor. "My lips brushed against my forehead ". Now that's hard to do. There were several of these and a couple name swaps which drives me crazy. The story itself was good. I would have given it a 4 without all the errors. I have read quite a few of this author's books, and have never encountered this problem before.

Wonderful read, though typos abound…

Wonderful story and the first that I’ve read that told the story of two boyhood sweethearts, separated for 10 years after 🏫 and reunited during the holidays, finally getting their HEA.
However, 📄 after 📄 after 📄, there are SO many typos. The story, like many in this genre (M/M ❤️‍🔥 🎄HEAs) are told in alternating voices from both of the MCs. The ✍️ repeatedly when speaking from the perspective of one character will refer to themselves as the other one with the second person pronoun instead of in first person and vice-a-versa (or) refer to themselves as the character’s first name. It’s mind boggling, but continually happened throughout the
💯 + pages.
I was further confused because the characters grew up in a small rural town that is covered in ❄️ during the holidays each year, but is outside of San Francisco Airport. Less than 3/4 of the way through the story, the author refers to them being in Montana (which made sense so I thought I had misread it earlier during the beginning of the tale, only to refer to the characters leaving the small town to rush to SFO to catch the ✈️ back to LAX. Hand to God…
Doesn’t matter in the end and no one including myself is perfect or infallible, but in a “published” 📕 (ebook or not), I found all of this quite surprising…
🌟🌟🌟🌟 regardless. Looking forward to 📖 the rest of the series (Baytown Boys Male/Male Romance by Ian Finn). To much belabor the point, I’m not going to proofread this to show how easily and possibly freely, typos can abound… 😉🤭🤦‍♂️‼️

The story was good and fairly sweet. It wasn't too convoluted and pretty much got straight to the point. It's got a heartwarming vibe. The character who had gotten their heart broken, was quick to offer forgiveness and even act like it was no big deal. Not sure I would have given that second chance so quickly if it were me. But that's sorta what is at the core of this book. True and lasting love. Finding your home. There were a few instances where the characters came off as much younger than their 28/29 years. (Something they would say or do made seem like they were in their teens.) There is some sexual content (just one scene) but there was a lot more kissing. (There was mistletoe everywhere.) Other than the mistletoe and the fact that the story took place over the Christmas New Year time frame, there wasn't a whole lot of holiday involved. It is a shorter read, so doesn't take long to finish. There were quite a few editing errors which brought my rating down. (More than just one here and there.) It was enough to throw you off at times, confusing the reader. It alternates between POVs.

This is such a heartwarming story. It really would have fit in with the holidays but any time of year this would touch my heart. I’m so glad the author decided to add to this series. Alan and Vance meet in high school and have a real connection. The trouble is one is a city hearted adventurous guy and the other is a country hearted guy. Vance can’t wait to graduate and leave his home town to go to the big city. Alan, on the other hand, likes his home town and having what he feels is the small town and family benefits. They end up separated for ten years but when they are reunited they are still faced with their differences. The author did a great job of how the differences between these two likable guys is handled. Their interaction made me feel the strong connection between them. I wanted these two to work things out. I hope the author is going to add more to this series.

Vance left Baytown after high school graduation determined to escape small town life and never come back ,leaving Alan ,who loves where he lives behind. Ten years later he returns when his office sends him to purchase Alan's farm. It only takes one look and sparks are flying. The author does a great job developing the story and moving it quickly and smoothly. It's well written ,has some sexy ,hot scenes and is an enjoyable read.

Good but simple
3.5
The story is cute, tender and hot, but predictable and I was a little disappointed because I have read this author before, and here I found the story less moving than usual. It's a good, simple romance but no more, between Vance reuniting with his former boyfriend Alan, after Vance left him and their small town to pursue a career after high school.

This is an amazing story about first love and second chance. Alan and Vance were high school sweethearts. Together they experience all their first, until Vance left their small town leaving Alan behind. Ten years later Vance is back and he is full of regrets once he see Alan. This is the most romantic story I have read.

“Because You Stayed Here” by Ian Finn is a short holiday read with all the feels of romance with a side of heat. Vance and Alan have a bond, a first love connection that may have dimmed over distance and time, but never really ended. A sweet small-town romance! ~Angie❤️
