I should’ve known it wasn’t going to be easy.

Almost lost my luggage? Check.

Late for my first meeting with my advisor? Check.

Living a semester in a city I know nothing about? Check.

Not knowing what to expect and anxiety eating away at me? Also check.

Unexpected feelings swirling inside of me when I’m with Matt? Ugghhh….. What’s happening?

Studying abroad is never what you expect it to be. Maybe it’s because you never know who you are going to meet, what you’re going to do, or if you will even pass your classes! It is a time when you choose willingly to live an entire semester in a country that is completely different from your own. It can sometimes make you wonder- was this a good idea to begin with?

As an overthinker who is unsure about her career path, Juliet experiences her trip abroad in the city of Verona, Italy. She hopes she will fall in love with the culture, the views, and most importantly the gelato. She also hopes that it will finally help her find her path as an Italian language teacher. But, when an unexpected turn of events happens, she needs to learn how to spread her wings, meet new people, and let go of her anxieties that hold her back. Will she let her head hold her back from following her heart? Or will the romance and beauty of Northern Italy be enough to help her master her dreams and find out who she truly wants to be?

Juliet travels with her friend Matt to study in Verona. It’s a big step and not without challenge but Juilet is determined to enjoy the experience and learn. She has Italian roots after all.

But things don’t go as planned and friendships are tested as relationships develop and become a dilemma. With two men wanting Juliet’s heart, which will she choose?

It was lovely reading about the food and culture of Italy as someone who has visited and enjoyed the country. I also felt the snippets of Italian language and the recipe at the end were lovely touches.

With endearing characters, filled with relatability and charm, I really enjoyed this read. It was fun, engaging and Alessia writes in a beautiful way. A highly recommended, wonderful read!

Questo libro di Alessia Saint è un capolavoro. 🥺 Jokes, I won't write this review in Italian. 😅

I'd like to thank the lovely Alessia Saint for gifting me a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.

When I saw this, I had to read it. 🥰 It's set in Verona, the city of love.

This is a story about Juliet, an Italian, American who decides to study abroad, in Verona. It's in northern Italy, a distance away is Lake Garda to the left or Venice further to the right (120Km).

This took me back to Verona, I love you for that Alessia 🌺🥺 The author was in the city, and that definitely comes through with her writing, I also love the snippets of Italian (that I don't need a dictionary to understand), but don't worry she gives explanations in her book.

Sei la mia vita, Juliet. I loved you before, love you now, and will love you forever.

I have to confess that I have fallen utterly, undeniably in love with this book.

From the first pages of this absolute delight I was transported to a beautiful country, full of new friends, amazing food, opportunities and of course … romance. I think that’s why I feel so sad now it’s over, all those memories of being twenty one and having a world of options at my feet - the book brought those truly back to life for me.

This book is heart warming and so sweet. Juliet is adorable, and very real, I could entirely to relate to her mixture of anticipation, excitement and nerves as she seeks her way in the world, away from home, on her own, for the first time. It was beautiful to see her grow and mature, with some undeniable heartache on the way - and not just from romance. I love how there was a friendship complication, something all young people feel and go through.

I was twenty one again every time I read this book. The way your friends are integral to everything, that lessens as you age sadly, in spite of what you hope and think at the time as jobs and bills and families come along. That first heartbreak - poor Juliet, I relived so much in this book.

I’ve always been eager to go to Italy but now I am positively desperate!

Juliet in Verona, how fitting!

This is the story of a young Italian-American girl, Juliet, who experiences a semester abroad in the lovely city of Verona, her growth, her development, and her romantic adventures.

The start, I have to confess, could have been a bit speedier, it took a bit to get to the more exciting, page-turning parts. But, there was also a lot of detail and description, it was an extremely thorough depiction of what starting a semester abroad must be like. The author took us on a journey, allowing us to truly experience Italy through Juliet's eyes.

The second half of the book, when we get to the centre of the delicious, fudge-like romance, was amazing. I really kept finding myself wanting to find out whether Juliet was going to end up with my preferred guy or not! I also kept rooting for Juliet, who I think found herself in Verona.

This book had me pulling out my dusty Italian books, and wanting to make home made gnocchi again! It was a sweet romance, but also a story of self-discovery and development. I really liked it!

What a wonderfully sweet book. College senior Juliet travels to Italy for a semester abroad before starting her masters program to become an Italian teacher. She has conflicts with her roommate, makes new friends, and experiences Italy. Sparks maybe fly with a friend from home, but then there is Giacamo, an Italian engineering student who lives in her apartment building.

I really loved Juliet in Verona. Actually, I bought this book the moment I finished reading Cristina in Campania so I could read another Alessia Saint love story. And I was rewarded! Juliet is a thoughtful and kind heroine, always trying to do the best by everyone. Giacamo is…a dreamboat. He is so open about his feelings and gives Juliet the kind of compliments that show he REALLY sees her and appreciates her. They were great together. But, in all honesty I did not see anything appealing about Juliet’s friend from home, Matt. He sucked. I could not take him seriously as a rival for Giacamo AT ALL.

Something I really appreciate is how Saint shows female friendships in her books. The instant camaraderie and the love and connection that can happen so quickly. It is always nice to see young women support each other, wanting to help each other however they can. Even during the conflicts with her roommate, Juliet isn’t mean or catty. And her roommate is the worst.

As I said after finishing Cristina in Campania, do not read Juliet in Verona on an empty stomach. Grab some gelato and settle in. For real.

A love triangle blossoms among students studying abroad in Italy.

While the story is a little on the long side full of detail slowing down the pace, it has likable characters and mouthwatering descriptions of Italian cuisine, which I was thrilled to see included in the recipe section at the end of the book.

If you like light romance, a vivid Italian setting, and Italian food, you may enjoy this one.
