The beginning of Rebecca's holiday break promises to bring great fun. Everyone is looking forward to her being home. The house is decorated, parties have happened, gifts are purchased and wrapped. They're ready.
You didn't expect it to be that easy, did you?
On a trip to pick up Christmas gifts, Polly and Henry pull over when they see a man stumbling on the side of the road. He dropped to the ground before Polly got to him. We all know the drill by now. It was time to call Sheriff Merritt. One week before Christmas. How could this happen?
Who was Frank Mansfield? A nasty, ugly man who wielded power like a hammer. His money was the only thing he had going for him. Polly was thankful Henry was with her that morning after she heard the bitterness he held for Mansfield. That kind of anger might push anyone to murder.
The hardest thing to tell Aaron was not that she found another body, but that Mansfield's estranged daughter had returned to Bellingwood. A sweet young woman who was here to search for a friend who had gone missing. The last person this woman wanted to see was her father, but she had every reason to kill him. Polly worried that an opportunity to remove the threat to her and her son had arisen.
An excellent healthy dose of family, new friends, old friends, love, light and a sense of gratitude for being being able to read this book. Diane Greenwood Muir entwines all of this into an excellent cosy mystery in Bellingwood once again. I have laughed and had my heart strings pulled whilst reading. Had I been alone I might have had tears but I have so enjoyed my time in Bellingwood Iowa. Had I been American I think I would have to move there, however I am blessed to live in my happy place by the sea in a small town that cares about the people who live here and random acts of kindness occur everyday with no guns or murders. Bellingwood is my second happy place. Thank you Diane for writing this series I’m going to go back to book one and reread the series before the next episode appears. I thoroughly recommend this series, everyone should know of Bellingwood.
Even with the drama of finding bodies, this is a book full of warm fuzzy feelings and new friends. Diane, you have really outdone yourself in this book. I could hardly put it down. I waited till after Christmas to start because I knew that was how it would be. It will definitely be one to re-read.
What an experience trying to keep up with all the preparations for Christmas with Polly and Henry's huge family and their friends! Of course, there's the prerequisite body, or two, that we all know to expect, but this time the storyline makes mention of my part of Iowa, the S.E. area, that I'm very familiar with. All in all, a wonderful visit with old friends, a wonderful Christmas, and the gift of a new baby!
I'm beginning to understand why I like this series so much. Yes I like the mysteries and the characters, but it is the relationships between all the characters in the town that is special too. It reminds me of my little neighborhood in the big city where I grew up, back in the good old days. Most of us knew each other and were friendly. Every spring the dad's cleared the weeds from the large empty lot next to the apartment building I lived in. A baseball diamond was laid out on one side and garden plots were on the other side. There was a real sense of community like the one found in Bellingwood, that is missing from my suburban neighborhood.
Polly and Henry go out without children for the first time in a while. On the way back home from Boone they see a car on the side of the rode and a man a little further up the road from the car. He is dead. Polly has to get the police. Next day she meets a woman who has no wallet or money. Polly puts her up at her hotel until she can get her money mailed to her. The women turns out to be the daughter of the murdered man. Read and find out more of the twists in this story.
There is such enjoyment and looking forward to reopening the pages of a new Bellingwood novel by D G Muir. I find myself caught up with Polly and her friends and neighbors and family, and the mysteries she encounters and the new people she meets and the whole town, just feel so good, like a cup of warm coca on a cold wintry day. There is both reliability and growth in the characters and nany meet challenges- growing up and learning to be an adult is difficult for all of us. This is a series that I have read each and every one!
I never tire of books about Bellingwood! This is one of her best, but I say that about all of them!! I get so involved in everyone’s life and so-o-o look forward to the next book. I need a Polly fix now! I love the little stories on the 25th of the month to keep us excited until the next book comes out. I hope you have a wonderful year this year in 2022. Stay safe and warm and hug your kitties 🐈⬛ from Aunt Joy!
Christmas is coming and Everyone at Bell House is getting reafy
Polly and Henry are picking up some Christmas gifts when they see a car on the side of the road and a man stagger down the shoulder. By the time they get to him he's dead. So begins another Polly mystery filled with family.
I don’t know how each new book in this series gets better than the last one, but Dianne has done it again. This book is inspiring, captivating, and heart-warming, and my only sorrow is that I finished it. I highly recommend reading the whole series from the first book to this one. Enjoy!
So glad I happened on to this series. The town of Bellingwood IA comes alive for me with all the characters and stories. I know it’ll be positive without being too saccharine. There’s usually a whodunit to solve. May not be the most finely crafted storytelling but it’s just fine for me.
I have absolutely loved reading each of the 35 stories surrounding the adventures of Polly Gilmore and her ever growing family. I’m sad that the adventures are coming to an end but ever grateful for all the wonderful insights to true family plights. Great reading! Now what?
I so look forward to these books. The problem with reading one right away is its so hard to wait for the next one.I feel like I know all the people in belling wood myself. These are the best books if you want a good clean, caring about people kind of book.Keep up the good job.
Rebecca returns from college for Christmas break. And Polly and Henry find a still warm body. Someone Henry knows. What Christmas surprises are being planned while Polly helps unravel and uncover long hidden secrets.
I love going to Bellingwood. The characters are so down to earth and you feel like you know them . This is a clean cozy mystery. You can read and not be drowned in gore, sex or swearing I recommend this series to anyone who want to find a good clean book.
Polly and Henry are on the way to pick up presents when what does she spy, it weren't Santa, but her first dead body for Christmas. Making new friends, making time for old friends, and loving her family is keeping Polly busy as she contemplates what her life is.
As usual another brilliant story from Diane, with all her usual twists and turns to keep you spellbound until the end! Counting down the days now until the vignettes at New Year and then the long ,long wait for.March 25 2022.
This book is just as good as all the ones before it. I love knowing there is another one coming. It is the kind of series you go back and read again. So good
Not my favourite one of the series. I liked that we got to know Elijah more and that the mystery connected back to a previous one, but the way Eve found out about her family was disappointing and unbelievable.

I thought This book was better than #34. The story was more involved, you got to know the new characters very well. There was a lot of emotion in this one, something I like to see! Thanks Diane, it was great!
As always the story line is great. Keeps you on your toes never knowing what is going to happen next. Polly gives so much and gets so much in return. If only we truly had more people in the world like this.
Polly is always rescuing people and in this book it happens with an unexpected twist. So many connections to people in Boone and even in Bellingwood. I am excited to see what the future hold for these new characters!
