Knotty fun

This fast read may not be for everyone, but for those that crave letting the dark come out to play, who would rather follow the monsters in the dark than run in fear . . . Well let's just say this dystopian kinky read may be right up your dimly lit, backstreet alley.

It's got monsters and a world that seems like it will be unfolding slowly through the arc of the books. Usually, this drives me crazy, but it strangely works in this case most likely because FMC too knows so little of the world around her. There is this 'women for breeding/pleasure' mentality about this dystopian world so there are elements that may be triggers. I can't tell you it's dub-con or light BDSM, as the character has been raised for 'pleasure and breeding' and knows no different, so everything really has to be taken within context of this book's world. Overall, it's a good beginning.

I don't get why the rating is that low. I mean it's dark romance and sometimes slavery is talked about in those books. It's kinda the point of pitch black romance. I get that some people don't like it (and sometimes I don't, it depends on how the book or series end) but just, you know, read the pitch or something.

Since I don't seem to find one on Goodreads, here it is for you (without spoilers):

Elney is a young woman who has been prepared to be bred by monsters. They have colonized the Earth and through the House of Lace find women to reproduce with.
Monsters buy slaves at auctions. Those slaves are trained to be submissive and obedient.
Elney is trained the same way but has to remain a virgin.
Once she's ready, the auction is a success, it's been a long time since the House of Lace found itself so full of monsters.
The establishment has kept Elney in the dark and she doesn't know anything. She didn't have the right to ask questions. Otherwise, she would be punished by her handler, Logan.
You'll follow her first auction and her first discoveries about what is going on in this new world ruled by monsters.

Now, it is a very dark themed book so if you're sensitive to it, don't read it.

If you don't have any triggers, it is very spicy and monsters have particular anatomies. There a breeding kink involved and I hear it'll be even spicier in the next book.

My personal hope is that the House of Lace will be destroyed because it is a terrible institution. However I didn't see anything very different from "the life of Anna" or "24690". It's just dark romance. And she's not even really treated badly by her buyer.

I power skimmed through this and didn't like it.

The slavery aspect. The photo session and the subsequent punishment is what completely checked me out of the story coz the photographer was a pervert.

Any story with painful sex I am not a fan of. Any story with rape 'masquerading' as dubious consent/non consent-consent, I am not a fan of. Any story where the FMC is in the dark about what is going on, I am not a fan of. Asking too many questions was taboo. Her basically responding in a manner that was not meek or her vagina not being dry as the sahara was taboo. The story has an element of sexual humiliation/being made to be intentionally embarassed, that I was not a fan of.

Basically, I was not a fan of this.

couldn’t get far into the book

It was just too degrading and insulting for me to get past the first chapter. I really don’t mind some of that especially when you go in expecting a slave scenario but something about this one just hit me wrong. Maybe the dialogue wasn’t doing it for me either. So I won’t be finishing this one.
