This review is a little hard for me to write. I don’t think I fully understood what this was all about. It seems very confusing. The characters are all the same as in book 1 with Jackson (Jack) Stone and Dr. Alabama Wren as two highly skilled Polaris agents. They are usually accompanied by Cormac Gifford, also an agent, but usually charged with procuring stuff or driving/flying a vehicles they may need. They have been in pursuit of a guy named
Hunter Flynn who was an Eclipse agent.

Polaris and Eclipse are private corporations that have set themselves about the law. In Polaris’ case, they are out to protect humanity from anything that threatens it. Eclipse, on the other hand, seems to want to shape the world into what their version of it should be and that’s not necessarily good for mankind. Then there seems to be an alien presence in some of this story. Last book, our two agents were to takedown and destroy a huge flying disk thought to be operated by Flynn for Eclipse. That proved partially true but they didn’t actually succeed in getting it away from Flynn. But that’s all a past story.

In this book, it seems that Flynn has left the Eclipse organization and has started out on his own. He’s found or met a guy that goes by the name of Farzin Mahdavi code named Cyrus, who Flynn has ordered to find and collect by any means spheres of possible alien origin. Whether or not these spheres are truly alien isn’t something I can confirm although I think they are. Still, Stone and Wren are trying to chase this guy down and stop his collection of these spheres. They also want to know what these spheres can do or what they are for. They do know that when Dr. Wren is close to one, it really messes with her empathic abilities.

Now here’s were all this gets confusing. Flynn has met up with Stone and Wren and wants them to take his daughter Marissa with them to protect her from Cyrus, I think. Only there’s something about Marissa that neither Stone nor Wren know about. Lastly, we also get to meet a Dr. Nafret Acharya who seems part Egyptian and Indian. I’m not sure why she gets into the picture, but she does. So, these four are off on a strange mission to acquire these mysterious spheres and keep Cyrus from controlling them at all cost.

Our journey has some strange twist. One of which takes us back in time, yes, we time-travel to Egypt and meet the ancient Pharaoh Akhenaten. Now this is the hard part. Pronouncing some of the names of things related to Egypt totally loses me. You’ll need to figure out what nekhakha means as well as heka. Good luck.

While this story was confusing, it was also exciting. Since there is a book three, “Lotus Game”, I let you know that Stone and Wren survive, but barely. I’m not really sure the rest of our civilization did. That’s where I’m also confused.

I’m going to take a break from this series and read something else before going back to the last book. Hope you enjoy this one.

For Jackson of Polaris Agency life has the habit of surprising him nowadays.
Then there is the Dove Sequence that holds the promise of billions of people having to die and he is the secret key that can prevent that happening...if true.
But an alternate reality holds the keys dating back to the ancient Egyptian Pharoah named Tutankhamun.
Really?
Somebody is really smuggling one's brain in this book in a major way.
Enjoy.

Time Travel to save the world and lose love - 4 stars

From the pyramids in Egypt to the frozen wasteland of Siberia, this adventure is in high-energy mode from start to finish. Alabama Wren and Jackson Stone are the primary partners who work for a secretive agency "Polaris". Wren and Stone are supplemented by Cormac Gifford, a resourceful procurer of supplies and equipment.

There are two ego-crazed men (Cyrus and Flynn) in this adventure who want to rebuild the world to suit their need for power and supremacy. You will be flitting around from airport to airport in an end of the world scenario. It is not possible to relax on these flights. There usually won't be any weapons but there will always be plenty of action.

Both Stone and Wren are able to overcome grievous injuries and still keep going -- that is what Polaris trains its agents to do. The agents are supposed to avoid emotional involvement but Stone and Wren are clearly developing a strong attachment. Something has to give.

We witness amazing battles both in the present time and in ancient Egypt. There is plenty of action - actually more than is needed - which provides blood and mounds of bullet casings throughout.

The most enjoyable sequence features Stone climbing up the outside of a building with serious injury barely slowing down his ascent. The descent is even faster and features a bystander who likes the idea of an armed intruder.

This time travel tale brings the reader in and out of a long-forgotten past where hieroglyphics swirl alongside modern languages. Suspend your doubts and drift along on the high-speed power of imagination.

Machiavellian Machine Intelligence or Not?

Dove Sequence, the sequel to the Project Horizon, is another triumph for the writing team of Brandon Ellis and Max Wolfe. Going even further out on the speculative fiction limb, it's a mad thriller to the end.

Jackson Stone and Alabama Wren are working together again, however, Jackson doesn't recall much of their former partnership. Director Hill of the top secret Polaris organization calls them to address an issue of emergency national security.

Without giving too much away, our team is again spread all over the globe. From the USA to London, to Egypt and Siberia, as well as a little bit of time travel, a battle is fought to keep planet Earth safe.

I'm going to have to be more circumspect about when I begin another Ellis/Wolfe novel. This is the second night in a row without sleep! I just couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this series. 5/5 stars.

Convoluted Secrets

Jackson Stone lives surrounded by secrets, lies, and danger. His body has received a new heart, one that retains memories from the original owner. Jackson isn’t certain whether his feelings for his partner are his own, or from his hearts’ original owner. Everything is compounded by the secrets and lies. One thing is clear, an other worldly power is capable of destroying earth and many of her people. Only Jackson and his team can stop the destruction. Will Jackson be able to sacrifice Alabama Wren to accomplish his mission? I’d recommend reading this series in order to get the most from this story.

Oh my goodness! This is a weird organization that doesn't ever tell its top agents the whole story of what they're fighting for. Or just allows one person the info. It's a hard way to work to keep you at the top of your game. But it all seems to work for Wren and Stone. Be prepared for travel in this time period - then into the past. What a trip that was Then back to the future and a trip to Siberia. I got cold just thinking of Siberia! And how was it that the bad guys were constantly able to find the good guys? I started out slow on this series, but now I'm hooked and can't wait for the next book in this series. Good work Brandon and Max.

Stone and Wren are back and investigating/following leads as this story starts out with a bang and lots of action. Was surprised they made it out alive of the first few chapters but then they are super lucky at times. Then the real fun begins. Lots of action, suspense, mystery, chasing the bad guys, searching for others and other fun stuff. Just a great story and kept me glued to the end to see what would happen next. Had to see how everything fit together. And see how they save everyone this time.
