She was there one minute, gone the next... As children start disappearing left and right in a small town in Vermont, everyone is on edge.
Private Detective Jane Weston is new in town, but she's determined to take on the case. Especially when her friend's daughter goes missing. She's planning to do whatever it takes to find the little girl.
Meanwhile, the recent AMBER alerts have sent local artist Natalie Prescott into an unexplained tailspin, and she wonders if she'll ever be able to escape her dark past.
From the author of The Lake House and Dear Violet, another gripping psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat right from the beginning.
Children start disappearing in a small town in Vermont, and AMBER alerts begin circulating the town's residents. Private Detective Jane Weston is determined to take on the case, not knowing what she is in for, and the AMBER alerts leave local girl Natalie Prescott in an unknowing tailspin.
I loved the complexity of Natalie's life and was eager to read more about her and why she was so on edge after the AMBER alert was sent. I couldn't help but feel for her when her story unravelled.
This book from the word go had me hooked. I loved the different dynamics of each character and loved getting to know them through their well-written personalities and intriguing backstories. There was no opportunity for my attention to wander as the fast-paced story took me on a rollercoaster of unravelling punches, with each twist hitting harder than the last. I thought I knew where the storyline was going by the last few chapters, but I was highly wrong with all my guesses, making this a fantastic thriller.
Highly recommend this book. If you are anything like me, the storyline will linger in your head along with the word 'WOW' for a while afterwards.
When you think of a small town, you think of safety, but in the town of Higgins, Vermont it’s the opposite. Children start to go missing in this small town and everyone is getting nervous how and why this keeps happening, even local artist Natalie Prescott who started a tailspin once this started happening. Thank god Private Detective Jane Weston recently moved there and is on a mission to save the day, no matter the cost.
This book had me invested from the first sentence until the last. Learning about every character in this book and actually feeling like I knew who they were kept me turning the page, chapter by chapter. Mikaela makes sure to give every character the background they need to seem alive and like someone I would pass on the street. The biggest question I had was WHY did the AMBER alerts bother Natalie so much? And like the amazing author she is, she answered it and more. Jane caught my eye as soon as she was introduced, you could just tell she was going to fight for the answers as long as she needed to.
Mikaela takes the serious topics in this book and nails them perfectly. Triggered is a definite heart racing, page turner that I just couldn’t put down.
When kids start to go missing, will they be found? And how much of your past can come to haunt you before it’s too much?
I loved this book, the plot and the plot twists, that are sprinkled here and there from the beginning, were unexpected and so creative. Since this is the second book by Mikaela I read, I can definitely say she has a gift for (fake) anti-climax: in her books she makes you think that you left the worst behind your back (so you're left wondering for a chapter or so what will happen since the book is not coming towards the end) and then surprises you with something unexpected.
One of Mikaela Bee's best. I couldn't put it down as it ramped up to the climax. The use of multiple perspectives works so well for this particular narrative, and the way all the perspectives come together at the end made for a great read.
I loved this book and the mention of Madison was great! I’ve now read all this author’s books and can’t recommend them enough…great stories with unbelievable twists and turns!
I can’t say enough about how well this Author creates and develops such outstanding characters. Her books are short reads packed with page turning suspense. The ending, a mind blowing gut punch! From page one “Triggered” had my undivided attention and definitely a book I will not forget. Highly recommend.
