Leave Me Alone: A memoir of me, myself and Trish

Rate this book
The hilarious, no-filter memoir from beloved comedian and social media star Christian Hull.

'I loved it! You'll binge read it! It's un-put-down-able! Seriously funny.' TANYA HENNESSY

Christian Hull is a hardcore introvert. He loves being a little bit famous for his videos, but at the end of the day he's a lone wolf - one who's more interested in Caramilk on the couch than cocktails in the club. He's a strong believer in Netflix and chilling at home, alone; he's always the first to smokebomb social events, and he is in a committed relationship with his indoor plants.

Christian tells his behind-the-scenes story with his signature, completely unapologetic honesty, from growing up with triplet brothers to building a career in comedy; from his fear of moths to some of his more daring Grindr sexcapades. He invites you into his personal creative universe, where wearing a wig to make random videos and screaming swearwords at resin pendants somehow turn out to be great decisions.

Leave Me Alone is a story of breaking the mould and embracing exactly who you are, even if that means telling people to leave you the f**k alone.

'I only enjoyed the parts I was in . . . skip to Chapter 8!' EMMYLOU MACCARTHY

This book did not disappoint me at all christian is one funny person who i've been watching online for a little bit now and this book is just like a longer video in book form.

I loved getting to know a bit about Christian in his day to day life in radio and just as his career online was taking off and how he got to where he is today. He brings such a humorous way to his writing style it's something that had me finishing this book in one sitting it was that good.

I find very few comedians especially ones from Australia funny but in the small group of ones that i do like he is definitely one that can make me laugh in any given situation. I could have easily had a book of his be longer than it actually was because he just seems to have more stories to tell and i could easily read it happily.

One of my favourite autobiography reads of the year so far and i'm glad that i picked it up!

I’ve been following Christian on Facebook for years and been to his comedy shows, so I was super excited when I heard he was bringing out a book.

This was such a great read! Lots of laughs, cute photos and it was so interesting to hear about his childhood and the path that let him to be the internet sensation that he is today! I was definitely surprised to learn that behind all that leave me alone vibe, he’s actually a big old softie who adores his family and friends. I highly recommend this book.

Update: upon rereading - 5 stars! ⭐️

What an absolutely fabulous and refreshingly unfiltered memoir! What more could one expect from the utter hilarity that is Christian Hull? Absolutely loved every minute of this, I was cracking up laughing at so many points and definitely see myself rereading it! So good!

I've had the hilarious joy of seeing Christian Hull live twice, I frequently listen to his podcast so it was absolutely brilliant to hear that he had a book coming! 😁 This one definitely didn't disappoint, I felt like I could hear Christian saying what he'd written in the book, he's honestly so unfiltered and so unashamedly himself and it's awesome! 😁 He also doesn't hold back whatsoever in terms of crude humour, which makes everything even outrageously funny! 🤣 In turn though, Christian Hull writes with a lot of heart throughout, you can really tell how much he loves his family and I loved reading about his parents and younger triplet brothers and the Hull family dynamic through the years! 💛 It was also interesting seeing how Christians' working life had changed over time, from his various radio gigs to how he got creating #Trish - the 'behind the scenes' aspects of everything to do with his work was fantastic! 😁 I also love how openly that Christian spoke so openly and unfiltered about his sexuality, being a gay male and how his family have always supported him, which I love! 💛 At 241 pages, I'd traditionally not have taken as long reading this as I did, bit in between working, being sick, being distracted by shiny things (namely other books! 🤣) and not wanting to finish it as I've been enjoying it so much, 'Leave Me Alone' is definitely one I see myself reading again before long!

What a hilarious, honest and delightful read! I have been following Christian on social media for several years and recently saw him live as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and nearly peed my pants with raucous laughter!

I really enjoyed Christian's writing style, I read it in his voice as it's soooo him! It's not drab, or hard to follow along, it's obnoxious, self depricating and witty, all of the things that embody Christian.

I remember reading this in the carpark whilst my partner was at the local hospital getting tests and I was embarrassingly snorting along whilst passers by silently judged me.

What a good belly laugh, a helpful insight and just all around great read by Mr Hull himself!

This book was gifted to me by Allen and Unwin in exchange for an honest review.

I firmly stand by listening to the audiobooks of comic types is the only way to listen to the book.

No one could convey the sheer hilarity of this book. Christian conveys everything like he’s taken residence in brain. So many moments of me nodding in agreement as he goes through his chapters

His unapologetic realness. He is who is, and doesn’t give a fuck if that’s not your jam. Honestly I loved this book.

Life stories about camp counselling, band friends and the insanity of having triplets for brothers.

The sarcasm and sassy is on high and I’m totally here for it!

I finished this book in record time as it was a very easy read.

Did I laugh a lot? No!

Did I laugh out loud? No!

Honestly I think him doing a audio book for his book would be a lot better.

It’s mostly about radio, sex and him being gay!
Wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be!!

I don’t think his a author at all

This was an easy read. It wasn’t as laugh out loud funny as I expected but Christian was very candid about his life and experiences. It’s a great testimony to accepting yourself exactly as you are.

First thoughts
This was quite the entertaining read and very easy to get through. A wonderful amount of X-rated content fills more or less the last 50% of the book and was a good little cackle to get through. A nice bit of a merry and light content.

What's it about
So if it wasn't already self-evident, these are Christian Hull's memoirs! Hull is an internet celebrity/comedian who I would say has most recently enjoyed a healthy dose of fame through Tiktok.

In these memoirs are many hilarious stories, a near-complete history of his sex life and unabashedly self-centred ramblings.

What you can expect
This was a very easy read and a good break from my regular reading for a few laughs. I'm not overly familiar with Hull, in terms of all the content covered in this book, and it does seem like a book mainly written for life-long fans, but I nonetheless found it entertaining.

I always find it oddly reassuring and humanising to hear about the struggles and tribulations of successful people, and Hull is no exception. You get a good look at the challenges he faced to get where he is today.

Hull is also gay and this features heavily in this memoir. I think one of the best things about this book is the support and solidarity Hull offers to fellow queers on the path to self-discovery.

Final thoughts
Simple but funny is how I would sum this up. There isn't much in the way of profound life lessons in this, but it is an excellent queer read and worth a flip through for anyone who watches Hull's stuff!

Happy reading!

Thanks to Allen & Unwin for sending a review copy my way

An honest and hilarious account of this mess we call life.
I've been reading a few comedy books lately by a number of Aussie personalities but I've got to say that Christian's new 'Leave Me Alone' is the most relatable and entertaining. It's funny, yes obviously, but it's so much more than that. It's often moving, emotional and raw, and it feels just like Christian is talking to you - there's no pretense or 'author voice'. If you are a fan, this is a must have - it sums up a everything we love about our favourite introvert. If you're not - firstly, why not? Secondly, this book is a great introduction into the life and times of one Mr Hull. I can't recommend it enough. It's complete drivel in print-form and I just love it. Having been a fan for a long time now, I thought I knew a lot about Christian (does that sound creepy to anyone else? Oh well) but in this book he holds nothing back, even including an 'adult' section in the back. It's extra-special because I feature in it (well, my Q&A does) too. 10/10.

I’m not sure what I expected reading this book, probably the classic Christian Hull I’ve perceived from his social media accounts?! Loud, obnoxious, hilarious etc This book will deliver classic “Christian Hull” and another personal and vulnerable dimension. You will read, a “deeper” insight into the journey of Christian Hull to social media fame as he lets us in on some of his most vulnerable life chapters- family, friends, sexuality and radio career to social media celebrity. I was surprised at how much of an introvert he is and his “obsessive” love of “D” 🍆😂is extreme! He is hilarious and brutally honest.

The book is proof that dreams don’t work unless you do and a stroke of good luck (or in case, a viral social media video), can change one’s destiny to fame!

Write that book, you never know when you might get your lucky break and it’s always fabulous to prove your teachers wrong! Congrats Christian!

A must read for any CH follower! I could of done with less talk about 🍆🍆🍆🍆😂⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a birthday gift from a friend, and is not a book I would have picked for myself. I like memoirs, but I have to be compelled by the life of the individual. Christian, whilst the creator of funny videos, is not really someone I find compelling as an individual and I struggle to be interested in the life of someone who is similar in age to me unless they have had a starkly different life to me - Christian may be gay and work in comedy but as a fellow Australian oldest child from a big family, our childhoods are very similar. I also found the writing style pretty weak (not unreadable, but certainly not stellar) which annoys me as someone aspiring to be a writer (again with that 'you got published because you were famous not because you are a talented writer'). And the content was not really my jam - I did not need to know about Christian's sex life (or frankly most anyone's sex life). It's readable, and its a fairly quick read, but I'd only rate this one as okay. No disrespect to Christian, who seems like a likeable enough person, just not really my jam.

Australian vlogger and comedian, Christian Hull, talks about his family background, his radio and online career, and about his love of food, GRINDR, and living alone. I hadn’t heard of him but I’m always up for an autobiography. There are some funny anecdotes and Christian is refreshingly honest about all aspects of his life. Because he is extremely candid about his gay sex life, some people will be offended by the detailed descriptions. I was really interested in his take on not needing many friends, on never wanting to attend parties, and never wanting a relationship - he doesn’t analyse his motives other than to say he’s selfish and doesn’t want to worry about others’ wants or needs. I did appreciate his thoughts on not projecting your idea of what constitutes a happy life onto others. Fans will enjoy Christian’s artless narration of the audiobook.

It was pretty much what I was expecting.
It was pretty well written, and it didn't bore me with a whole bunch of useless background information.

Most importantly there were actually funny parts.
I've read quite a few comedian's books and they just aren't funny.
Yes, I know there's more to them than just comedy but let's not pretend that most of us are after a deep and meaningful memoir, we want a bit of a background story with a bunch of LOLs...well I do anyway.

I liked it, but it wasn't absolutely amazing or give me a sore stomach or sore face from laughing so much.

Funniest book i have read in such a long time. Christian Hull has a way of making me laugh out loud whenever i watch his videos and this book was absolutely no exception. After reading this book i am more convinced than ever that he is an Aspie which is also a great thing. He is so honest and has a way of making you feel like you have know him for years. I love hearing about his family and reading how close they are. Well done on an amazing book.

After I’ve been having a bit of a shitty and extremely busy time lately, I was looking forward to a lighthearted, fun read that I could pick up whenever I had time. 📚☕️
To be honest, I didn’t know a whole lot about Christian before picking up this book apart from him being an Australian comedian/influencer.

I actually really enjoyed this one as it included such a range of stories from Christian’s childhood, upbringing, career transitions and life so far. I was really interested in learning that he has previously worked in radio and what that was like.
If anyone is looking for a fun memoir and plenty of laughs, I would recommend giving this one a go! 🤗

I have followed Christian Hull for so long on Facebook and TikTok, so when I heard he came out with a book, I was excited to add it to my influencer book TBR list. It was written so when. It was so genuine and so far is my favourite memoir. I resonated so much with Christian as I am also an introvert. While his lifestyle is vastly different from mine, I loved learning about his life and what has made him the man he is today. Overall, it was a super engaging and easy read.

Hilarious! In true Christian style, it had me bursting out in loud laughter. Christian also shares some raw and emotional parts of his past as well, which was generous of him to be so open and share. I didn’t want the book to end… perhaps a sequel is required, pretty please Christian? If a sequel does happen, please include your trip Toowoomba… just because it was such an awesome night at your gig!

Best book Ive read in years in terms of comedy. Christian hull is one of my favourite comedians and this book did not dissapoint.

Completed reading it within 3 days which is not like me (I usually take weeks) I could not put this one down. Usually I sell my books after I read them although I think this one will be staying on the shelf for when I need a pick-me-up on a stressful day.

I deffinetly highly recommend putting this one on your TBR list !

An easy read, Christian is unashamedly himself and I have not giggled at such relatable honesty in a long time. Cover to cover in about 4 hours, I can say with honesty that there's no way Christian -didn't- writh this book.

As someone who is opposite to Christian in many ways, I found myself relating heavily to many points and I'm glad this book exists.

It's never given me so much joy to say to someone, "I hope you die alone." ❤️

What a read! My new favourite book, not only does it capture the comedy of Christian, but it also captures his childhood and life. As soon as this parcel arrived I was glued to reading it. Would recommend to anyone you know! Reward yourself and indulge in this impressive literature. I loved it! Still undecided? JUST DO IT! Thank you Christian, what a stunner of a book.

The enjoyment factor I got out of this book was so great. I had a blast reading it. I’m not a LOL person when I’m reading but there where parts of this books that had me doing this. Growing up in Newcastle and being the same age as Christian bought back so many memories for me. Just the pure joy of reading this was a blast.

4.5/5 👌
I believe this might be the first auto biography I have ever read cover to cover, easily! I felt as if I were listening to Christian talk to me in person. The way it is written isn't complicated, its to the point and it is honest. All things I love when reading an autobiography that seems to rarely happen. Loved it!

Exactly as advertised and didn’t disappoint - whether he’s guessing paint colours or donned in wigs, I love Christian’s content. I also relate so much to his being a hardcore introvert and love that everything about him in this book is exactly who he is with no apologies. Great funny anecdotes & didn’t hold back with some of his stories.

There are some real laugh out loud moments in this book. There are also many in-depth and reflective moments where Hull goes a lot deeper than his usual comedy skits. It was an interesting and quick listen about Hull's childhood, family and life leading up how his career in radio morphed into a social media following and a career in comedy.
