Rate this book
Nova’s plan is simple. Fit in at her new school, avoid her foster mom at all costs and survive the last few months of her senior year. Her father’s passing left her all alone, unable to claim any of his inheritance until her eighteenth birthday. However, when Nova arrives in Idlewood and meets Greyson, she realizes there may be bigger problems on her hands. Greyson seems hellbent on making Nova miserable, but she knows he’s hiding something, and she intends to find out what it is.

Greyson can’t believe his luck when Nova shows up in his town. For months now, he’s been looking for his next move, and she’s just what he needs. He thinks he knows everything there is to know about Nova. She comes from a spoiled, rich background, an upscale private school, a perfect little life he didn’t get the luxury of. The closer he gets, though, the more flaws he sees in her façade. Greyson has one goal in revenge. He’s starting to think Nova may want the exact same thing. Maybe they aren’t so different after all.

this was very entertaining and an easy read, though not in terms of themes. i just thought it to be a bit repetitive at times, but for the most part it was something i could read with ease and happily dabble in the wattpad-esque romance.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and this new author. I read the first few chapters on Wattpad before it was published, and it sucked me in immediately. That didn’t change either when I got the paperback. The way that Paxton writes internal dialogue and builds the tension between characters keeps you on the edge of your seat the entirety of the book.

Nova moves to a new town after the loss of her last parent and to say she’s not happy is an understatement. She’s merely trying to bide the time until her inheritance kicks in, and she can get out. But after one night at a bonfire and a ghost from the past that she can’t place yet, her time there becomes increasingly more difficult, because Greyson is determined to make her life there miserable.

The tension between these two are through the roof. She hates him as much as he hates her, but for different reasons. They have a connected past that isn’t quite known at first but once it is, the truth will break your heart in more ways than one. After realizing this, they both come together and channel their mutual hatred on the true villain of the story…but I won’t tell you who that is.

More Under the Surface is a lighter dark romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. There’s lots of angst, tension, and smut that piece together a story full of twists, secrets, heartbreak and of course, a happy-ever-after. I can guarantee that everything you think is real is not what it seems, and you’ll be aching for more answers.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable book, and I cannot wait to see everything else that Paxton writes. If you decide to read this, I promise you won’t regret it.

Emotional Rollercoaster

I don't think their was a specific plot besides the love story but it was written so well. Each time something would happen just as they were getting close to separate them made it hard to put the book down. The added details about other characters and how their personality is written doesn't make it seem like a book. Loved it <3

Bland.

There were very few scenes that actually made me forget how boring the rest of the book was. I genuinely had to put down the book at times because of how disgusted I was.

I get having a few sex scenes in a book, but I swear this book is just a Wattpad fan fiction about Harry Styles and Y/N just with different names. Sex in a book can elevate it, if you are able to write it well. But no, it made it crash and burn into a ground -- it's borderline porn.

Keep these types of books on Wattpad and AO3. Even then, I've read Harry Potter Fanfiction on AO3 better than this book.

I loved this book. I remember the first time I read it was on wattpad. The second I found out there was a hard copy, I had to have it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a book that's frenemies to lovers with a good amount of spice.

i read the whole thing on wattpad, lost it to time, refound it, and now there’s a lot of nostalgia tied to it which is why it has four stars (honestly like 4.3). cringey writing with an actually interesting story but such 2010s angst oh it has my heart.

This book is something else. I remeber it when it was on Wattpad...which wasn't so long ago. The plot is amazing, there are so many good tropes, the hate, the love cannot be described in one word. Just read it. You won't regret it!
