Tsugumi Ōba (Profile in Japanese: 大場 つぐみ), born in Tokyo, Japan, is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His/her real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.
There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.
Why was it this good? I wasn't expecting to like it this much to be honest. I'm so glad it ended the way it did. What happened to Kira was the best thing. I just hope that his followers will come to their senses, but I doubt it. It shows how weak people can be.
This is my favorite manga of all time. 2,300+ pages later. Walking around with the all in one edition was like holding a bible. You could kill someone with this thing…
It got my brain working, trying to figure out the next move of people, who's who, and all that. I also got it for an amazing deal since this is the entire series in one giant book. All in all I recommend it to all fans of psychological thrillers.
First manga I have read and was better than expected, have seen 1 of the films before so knew the basis of the story. Now going to start the anime programs see how similar they are.
This was my first experience reading manga ever. *This is a review on the 12 tomes as a whole* Truly loved the concept and plot of Death Note. It was immersive, creative and full of surprises. One of my favorite aspect of the story is the idea of doing something bad for the greater good. The main character plays around with this throughout the whole thing and is fun to see the multiple perspectives on the Death Note and the power that comes with it. You can see the main character's progression from innocent to flirting with evil. Also appreciated the multiple phases of the two sides trying to outbrain and outplain the opposition. Written in an intelligent way. The layer of fantasy with the Shinigamis and the powers isn't cringy and too much, makes sense in the context. All the animations are very details and pretty - all in black & white. I see now why this is a classic.
Number of tomes : 12 Reading level : begginer (images and minimla text lmao) 8.1/10 💀📓
"Laws aren’t perfect, because humans who created laws aren’t perfect. It’s impossible to be perfect. However, the laws are evidence of the human struggle to be righteous."
It was okay, I enjoyed the story. The beginning and end especially, but the middle just felt to long. It got boring after some time and I didn’t feel like reading it. But it was worth it, I mean it was interesting to read and so.
I don’t normally write reviews on stuff but this an exception. This prob gon be me only review(maybe) so buckle up boys/girls to be electrified for this manga series review bc it was definitely the shit. I liked this book bc it was basically a battle between minds. But I don't think that Light actually "tricks L." L suspects Light almost from the very moment of finding out who he was. The problem was that L didn't ever really have "provable evidence" that Light was indeed Kira. This is not really an intellectual hit to L, as much as it is that Light was good at hiding and masking evidence. Sol believe that " L knew Light was secretly Kira all along," it's just that he couldn't prove it in a court of law. On one hand, L had tons of money and governmental power to fight Light, but Light did have a Supernatural Advantage -which was sometimes amplified (and sometimes reduced) by Misa, Mikami, Takada and so on. If they did well, it increased his power, if they messed up, it would diminish his power. The same can "sort of" be said for L, but only AFTER his death, since Near & Mello do not get along well and have their own ego battle taking place -where Mello is a bit of an underclass/criminal madman who goes off on his own. Near is much more like L himself, but needs Mello to take him to the next level. And finally, my fav part was when Light convinced the FBI agent to commit suicide. It really caught me off guard but at the sane time it was beautifully crafted scene that showcases the tragedy of a talented FBI agent that got stabbed right through the heart the moment she decided to break protocol by opening up to Light. This was social engineering at its finest, and shows the tactics that charlatans use irl to lower people's guards and take advantage of the opportunity. This was a really review so if you read to the end, cool! Anyway I do recommend this book to anyone that like a book that’ll make you think about the personification of good vs evil in a way that’ll make u question your own morales at times.

I would give the first half five stars but the second half is noticeably weaker. The finale wasn’t great in my opinion, and it left a couple loose ends and felt contrived to force an ending.
I was really impressed by how loyal the anime adaptation turned out to be, having seen that first I assumed there would be more differences but its almost a panel by panel recreation. Honestly I would probably recommend most people to just watch the anime because its so fantastic with the colour, animations, voice acting, and especially the music added. But if you really love the anime the manga is basically the same so you’d love it too. I’d say that pretty much 90% of the manga made it into the anime which is pretty awesome but maybe not worth reading the manga for that extra 10% unless you’re a really big fan.
I couldn’t believe the size of this paperback and was impressed how well the spine works, but damn is it awkward reading from such a large book! I ended up doing some stretching of the book to break in the spine and that made it much more readable but its still a pretty heavy book, you could potentially really kill a man with this death note lol!
I’ve bought a copy off of Amazon and as soon as I read the first chapter, I knew this was the perfect book to keep me up and going all summer. This book has some sad plots, but most of them are well deserved. If you love mystery and action this is book is the right fit for you. It contains death and no gore at all in the photos if any of those trigger you. It’s about a boy who comes across a “Death Note” and has the ability to murder anyone who’s name is placed on the book, including how they die and the time they die. It is really entertaining and keeps me hooked so I recommend buying it if you are into that.
……….so how deranged would i be for rating each individual way of reading death note.
anyways this is very good book, sturdier than expected & also very cost-efficient if you don’t know you’re about to get VERY deep into the series. 10/10 just wish the pages wouldn’t get friction’d together and stick sometimes
oh yeah, also the series is good too. can’t forget that one. but yeah why are the black editions listed seperately??? and this one????? insane behavior truly
can’t wait to rebind this for the actors to sign <3
Thriller-Misterio-Crimen-Sobrenatural.
I HAVE FINALLY FINISHED THIS MANGA AFTER THREE MONTHS, AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH.
anyways, death note is peak. everyone should watch and read this anime / manga. the ending in the manga was done much better than in the anime and i loved how matt had much more pages here in comparison to his screentime, lmao.
like the anime, the first 'half' is much more enjoble to read than the second half but it's still enjoyable either way.
sooo i watched the anime and bought the all in one book, and let me tell you.. death note is FREAKING AWESOME. it can be overrated at times, but the art, the story, the overall uniqueness of it all really just brought it together. i liked this a lot, and will be looking forward to reading something similar.
However! God damn is this thing a brick. I add it to my collection because why not? I’m however convinced I can build a house with a couple of these things stacked together lol.
It may have took me a year to finish but god was I not disappointed. This has as many twist and turns that it made an F1 course look like a damn roundabout. Would highly recommend reading this book all you need to do is dedicate your entire life to finishing it
Absolutely phenomenal, from beginning to end, and an interesting in-depth look at the mind of a psychopath. Light and L's constant head-to-head is both incredibly well written and has excellent pacing. One story I will not soon forget!
i love death note but the complete edition is kinda hard to read... its so thick and im always scared to damage the spine. i recommend buying the black editon instead . tho the story is absolutely amazing.
