What if the one who got away… comes back? They say you never forget your first love. But does time truly heal all wounds?

Levi Fawkes knows hockey, and not much else. As the captain of the Astoria Bay Thunder, his eyes are always locked on the goal. He’s perpetually unlucky in love and he’s been burned more times than he cares to count, but he’s determined to find his successes on the ice… not off it.

Recently divorced and looking for a new kind of freedom, Brynn Mackintosh is ready for a fresh start in a new city. For too many years, her dreams have been sidelined to suit someone else’s goals. But not anymore! Making a life for herself as a photographer is a chance to carve out her own path, and she won’t let anything stand in her way.

On a whim, Brynn calls into a local radio show and wins a ticket to a home game for the Astoria Bay Thunder. She’s not a big hockey fan, but a new life means taking chances. What she doesn’t know is that she’s about to hit her past…. square in the balls.

With chemistry that melts the ice and a second-chance to do things right, will Levi and Brynn find the happiness they crave in each other or will the wounds of the past be too much to overcome?

Power Play is a full-length, contemporary hockey romance novel and book one in the Astoria Bay Thunder series by CJ Cartwright. Scorching chemistry, exquisite care, and all the feels will make you fall in love with Levi and Brynn and the boys of the Astoria Bay Thunder.

Power Play is the first book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series by C.J. Cartwright. This is a second chance sports romance with emotion, angst, drama, chemistry, sizzle, banter, heartache, and new beginnings. It is the first book that I have read from this author, so I was excited to see what the story would be like.
Levi and Brynn have a history which left them both broken-hearted. Levi went on to find success as a star hockey player in those ten years, while Brynn is looking for a fresh start after her recent divorce. When fate reintroduces them, the sparks between them reignite- but will the pain of their past keep them from taking a second chance on love? It is worth the read to find out.
I loved Levi immediately, but it took a while or me to connect with Brynn. I think her mother needed a good serve of humble pie though. There were parts of the story that I would like to have known more about or see happen, such as her mother getting the karma due to her, or finding out more about Brynn’s ex and the divorce etc- but not because the story was lacking in any way, just because I am nosy lol.
I have become an Astoria Bay Thunder fan now, so I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the rest of the series.
Happy reading!

Thank you, C.J. Cartwright!

Love me a good sports romance. Also a second chance and forced proximity romance.

I really enjoyed the role reversal that this author uses: I usually see the female as the one who knows who the other person is and is the one going after their love interest, but here Levi is the one who realizes who Brynn is and is the pursuer.

I liked that there was still a buildup of the chemistry between the characters rather than a “I used to love you as a kid, now you’re here, lets fall into bed” situation.

I love the sexy calendar fundraiser aspect to this story. Of the ones I’ve read that does something like that I found that this author did it the best. Also, I want that cabin in the woods for myself! Maybe Levi can make a guest appearance ;-P

I absolutely adore the side characters, with Tia and Bridger being the most prominent (oh the tension there!). I can’t wait to read their story (book 2) and how they find their HEA (this is romance, so a HEA— Happy Ever After— is expected). I also adored Xander and his gentleness. I can’t wait to read about him.

This book does mention characters from another book, and whets the appetite for that story., but that one is technically not part of this series. As this is the first book I’ve read from this author I’ll certainly be adding that to my TBR list.

I absolutely loved reading the story of Levi Fawkes, Captain of the Astoria Bay Thunder and Brynn Mackintosh, a very talented photographer. They were each others first loves over 10 years ago and neither really left that love behind them, even when life took them in different directions.
By a total fluke a radio competition sees them meeting again and then a work opportunity for Brynn sees them working together where it becomes very obvious their off the charts chemistry is still there. Levi wonders if they can recapture what was lost to them years ago, while at the same time Brynn wants to run scared fearing if it didn't work it truly would break her this time. This is a fantastic start to what I believe is going to be such a fun steamy series filled with wonderful characters that I just can't wait to read more about. Bring on book 2 I say!!

“The pain of the last ten years, the future we might have had, and the memories we were denied – all of it comes out in raw emotion.” (excerpt from the book)

I love a good redemption, second chance story. Put it together with a sports romance and usually I’m all in. There is a lot to like about Power Play but, for me, it also fell short in certain areas.

Brynn and Levi go way back. They were high school sweethearts and truly cared for each other. Unfortunately Levi came from the wrong side of the tracks and that didn’t sit well with Brynn’s mother. Unbeknownst to Brynn, mama sends Levi packing. His grandfather is dying and he has to leave quickly, plus, mama dearest manipulated him into thinking he never would be good enough for her daughter and he would destroy her future.

Ten long years pass before they see each other again. It could be love at first sight but those ten missing years prove to be a problem. Too much history, too many doubts and insecurities and too many protective walls have been erected. No way Brynn is going to get her heart stomped on again.

So what was my problem with the story? I didn’t ‘feel’ the emotion. I had a hard time relating to Brynn and to her best friend, Tia. I didn’t ‘feel’ Brynn’s broken heart. Actually, I thought she was a little callous and immature. Also, Bryn’s friend Tia was too full of herself. She was self-righteous and arrogant.

What’s not to love about Levi? He turned out to be the successful one. He beat the odds, succeeded in his life’s dream of not only playing professional hockey, but was captain of the team. He never forgot Brynn and never got over leaving her. She wasn’t the only one with a broken heart. Levi’s heart was broken too.

👁 ^ 👁 OBSERVATIONS:

➦ Brynn’s mother was the one needing redemption, not Levi. I wanted to see mama have to realize the damage she caused. All we get is hearing Brynn called her mother and asked her if what Levi said was true.

➦ We know very little about Brynn’s marriage. What happened? Why did she marry him if she wasn’t in love? Did he have any regrets?

➦ Lot of unnecessary graphic bedroom scenes. That space could have been used to let us see Brynn’s mama eating her words. Also, if Brynn’s ex was the ‘bad boy’ in the marriage, it would be good to see his reaction to Brynn’s success and her relationship with Levi. That would have been more interesting than those detailed intimate scenarios.

➦ Levi’s hockey teammates were great and added a lot to the story.

➦ Levi is right…. there’s nothing family friendly about that calendar shoot

CJ Cartwright has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Brynn and Levi. Brynn and Levi had been a couple until her mother split them apart. Brynn had gone off to school and her mother told Levi that if he loved her that he would let her go since she was going places. Now ten years later, Brynn is divorced and on her own. Things are not going so well for her until she meets Bridger at his stepbrother's birthday party. Brynn wins a ticket package to see the Astoria Bay Thunder hockey team. The package includes her getting to spend some time on the ice during intermission with the captain of the team Levi. The name makes her think back to her time with her Levi. She knows it can't be the same Levi since the last name is different. Things do not go so well on this when she hits Levi with her hockey stick. Levi is shocked to see Brynn in front of him but she doesn't know it is him. It seems that fate is giving them a second chance when Bridger wants to use his cabin for the weekend and have Brynn take pictures of the team for a calendar. At first, Levi isn't going to be part of the calendar but Ember has her way, and he is told that it would not look right if he wasn't on the calendar. Brynn gets her friend Tia to be her assistant for this photoshoot and when Levi gets to his cabin, Tia doesn't want to let him in. Brynn and Levi finally have a chance to talk to each over and it is not a good talk. She has a lot of anger over how he left her and she lets him have it. Levi is not happy to be at the cabin but he wants to work things out with Brynn. After the photoshoot, some of the guys leave but have to turn back since they can't get down the mountain because a tree is blocking the road. Levi gets woke up at three in the morning and told the guys are coming back and a blizzard is heading their way. Levi gets things ready for the storm. This gives him a little more time with Brynn.
What will happen between Brynn and Levi?
Will she give them a second chance?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

I really loved reading about Brynn and Levi.

Brynn has moved to a new city to start over after her recent divorce. She is following her dream now that she is done putting them aside for a man. After winning tickets on the radio to a local hockey game, she thinks her luck is changing. However, when she nails the Captain of the team in the jewels in front of a large crowd, she believes luck is not on her side. Getting contacted to shoot the team's calendar could be good for her...and her bank account...but when the Captain shows up and drops a truth bomb on her, Brynn doesn't know how to feel.

Levi is the Captain of the team and is dedicated to only the team. He doesn't have room in his life for love. He had one of those once and doesn't want to bering that kind of heartache into his life. When he sees a woman during the period intermission, she seems familiar to him. When her name is announced, memories of the past come rushing in. The next time he sees her, he is a jerk. But when he tells her his truth, he isn'[t sure what to expect...but it isn't the anger that is unleashed upon him.

What follows is the story of a past filled with love and heartache...and trying to deal with it after years have passed and life has changed both of them. The camaraderie of the team is a huge aspect of this story...and I love Tia and Bridger! The chemistry between Levi and Brynn is fierce...but the hurt feelings of the past creep up and threaten the progress they make. I admire Brynn for standing up for her own freedom and wanting what's best for herself and not letting others decide it for her. As the first book in a new series...I enjoyed it and can't wait to see what the next book brings!

Power Play (Astoria Bay Thunder Book 1) by CJ Cartwright

5 out of 5

I love hockey and I love steamy romances. This book brings those two things together in a wonderful story of second chances and finding the one.

Brynn Mackintosh is starting over. Brynn needs to find a place where she can be happy and escape the past. Brynn has decided to follow her dream of becoming a fine art photographer but she finds that it isn’t as easy as she thought it was going to be. On a chance, Brynn takes a job that offers to double her normal fee. At this event she meets Bridger, a man that will help change the course of Brynn’s life.

Levi Fawkes has been playing for the Astoria Bay Thunder for ten years. He is the team captain and resident man of mystery. Levi is always ready to help out with the many charities that the team funds. When a promotion between one of the charities is combined with a radio contest winner, Levi is brought face to face with the one that got away, the one he walked away from when he was 18, the one he has missed and longed for everyday since.

Can Levi explain what happened when he left? Can Brynn forgive Levi? Can the ghosts of Brynn’s past haunt her future with Levi? Is there any hope?

The cast of characters starting with Brynn, Bridger, Levi and Tia are fun and enjoyable. I can’t wait for the next book. I love the way the stories are interwoven and will be a part of each other’s stories. The author is amazing at making you feel each character’s emotion. The details in the descriptions paint vivid pictures, like the photo shoot in the shower or with the lumberjack! Jump into this series now! Don’t wait. It is going to be one helluva ride!!

Devoured this book in one day, and stayed up past my bedtime to do it!

Brynn is finally free and able to live her dreams. She is starting a new chapter in her life and pursuing her passion! She soon finds out, however, that its not as easy as she thought. A chance encounter with a hockey start has her starring her past right in the face, and facing old heartache. Can she move past her pain? Will she make her dreams a reality? Levi has been through a bunch, yet he has been able to channel it and make something of himself. When he has an opportunity to fix his one big regret, will he do it? Will she let him?

The instant chemistry between the two MCs is what romance novels are made of. The story was everything you would expect from a romance, yet unpredictable making it so that you absolutely left this world behind and were transfixed by their story. There is a found family here, strong bonds, and passion! Its a perfect book to curl up with and escape to dreams of true love and fated souls. Tia is likely my favorite character because I love her no-nonsense attitude! I also really enjoyed Bridger and I am so excited to get more of him and Tia.

I read this book not knowing there was a prequel story, but I did not get lost at all. Just when I finished, I thought about how great it would be to get the backstory of those particular characters, and BAM! They have their story, so I am definitely picking that up! haha.

If you are looking for a romance story that is relatively short and easy to get lost in, give this one a shot!

When high school sweethearts get a second chance?!?!? It happens and it happens often, but little do Levi and Brynn know it’s about to happen to them.
A sweet story of hurt and betrayal but not like you would think. High school sweethearts a trust fund baby and someone from the wrong side of the tracks. Think Pretty in Pink to set the scene, the difference is it’s the one from the wrong side of the tracks that sabotages the relationship. Of course at the request of the family.
Levi was once asked this question, “if you truly love her you will let her go, don’t let her throw her life away for someone who can’t provide for her…” That decision being the worst of his life, being it’s now 10 years later and still has thoughts of his 1st love.
Brynn, newly divorced and struggling to survive, refuses to ask her family for help. One job that she needs desperately, meets Bridger who is about to completely disrupt her whole life, indirectly that is.
See Levi is the captain of the pro-hockey team he and Bridger are members of. Bridger invites Brynn to help with a job unbeknownst that her high school sweetheart, the man who devastated her, would be there.
What happens when Brynn and Levi meet again?
Is the connection instant or are they distant?
Do they rekindle what they once had?
If you want to know those answers, I’d advise you jump right into Power Play. Power Play is a second chance romance that doesn’t disappoint!
Oh and I can’t wait to read Bridger and Tia’s story next!

I’m a sucker for second chance romances, and I LOVED this one by CJ Cartwright!

Levi and Brynn were once star-crossed lovers, and they were destined for a wonderful life together. But, circumstances and some manipulation by others, ended their romance ended ten years ago. They were just young two kids on the cusp of adulthood. Despite the heartbreak, they both thought that first love would diminish with time, but when the two inadvertently meet again, they quickly realize how very wrong they were. As they spend time together, and those old feelings flare again, could this be a new start for them?

Brynn and Levi are the type of characters I fall for hook, line, and sinker. Brynn has been looking for her own freedom for a long time, just not from her ex-husband, but her family as well. None of them believed she could be independent and follow her dreams. Despite all of that, she proved them wrong. I admired her perseverance and determination to achieve her goals.

Levi, himself, had a tough life but in a different sense than Brynn did. But, just like her, he was determined to make his dreams of becoming a pro hockey player a reality. Both had such wonderful hearts, I could really see why they were so perfect together.

My favorite books are those that completely capture your attention, the ones that you can’t stop reading until you reach the end, but hate telling the characters good-bye. I loved the story that Cartwright gave me. It was the perfect balance of steam and an emotional romance, complete with a great cast of secondary characters.

Power Play
By CJ Cartwright
5*

I LOVED this book! I read Body Checked right before I read this book (which means I read them out of order) and I have to say I loved that they followed the same timeline, I have never read a series that does this in books before. This means that many of the same events are being told but from a different perspective than in the other. In Power Play, we are still reading about events that follow the Astoria Bay Thunder, a hockey team. However, we are seeing the romance between Levi and Brynn. Brynn is a photographer who is trying to reinvent her life and make it on her own as a photographer. Levi is the captain of the Thunder and a very private person. Brynn first meets Levi when she wins a contest to go see the Thunder Play. However, when she sees Levi, she can’t believe her eyes. Levi looks like her first love, however, he has a different last name. When Levi sees Brynn he feels as if he is seeing a ghost. He left her long ago at her parents’ request and has thought about her every day since then. Maybe this is the second chance he has been hoping for. Brynn gets booked for a photo shoot with the hockey team and it involves a weekend in a cabin with the team. Perhaps, they will get their second chance after all.
I cannot say how much I was rooting for Brynn and Levi. I loved everything about the team and this series. I hope that CJ Cartwright plans to continue this storyline with the other players. It was such a warm and heartfelt story that I really cannot recommend to anyone enough.

Fun second chance romance
Brynn and Levi used to be inseparable, like Mac and Cheese. Until they got separated. A lot of life happened, and now Brynn is a financially struggling, divorced photographer, and Levi is the camera-shy captain of an NHL team. Brynn meets one of his teammates in a hilarious birthday party scene. (I was a little unsure about his character at first but he turned out to be a good guy and will get his own book later.) It seems like fate wants to make sure Levi and Brynn get a chance to meet as Brynn both gets hired to do a charity calendar for the team, and wins tickets for a game, including special intermission entertainment. Levi acts like a grumpy bear at the photoshoot but he gets a chance to redeem himself. Brynn and Levi have both been pining for the other and they still have sexual chemistry, but it's difficult to get over years of heartbreak. I enjoyed the story and I liked the language and the way it flowed. Although in many second chance stories, it is rather difficult to come up with believable reasons for couples to break up and ghost each other without anyone being at fault. This time it involved Brynn's mom and some feelings of inferiority on Levi's part.

I really enjoyed this book with a passion of my own! I am a big sports fan, and hockey is one of the things that fuel my soul truly. I couldn't help but love how this story went about as well as the characters, they were real and brought the story to life, it was very enjoyable from start to finish!

For me, I had a strong love affair for cheering for Brynn and Levi. They struck out and lost the game with each other in the past, but you could see old feelings die hard within each other. I loved how Levi was written, hockey orientated, but yet he had walls that were crumbling down when near Brynn. And same with Brynn, things were not dead for either, they both had to realize what they had, wasn't truly gone.

I loved how the author wrote this, there were hardships and emotions within these pages, ad you really felt for both these characters and their surrounding elements. The story was a good paced read and it was very realistic. And it made my heart cry, smile, sizzle with excitement, and even gasp time to time. I loved this one and I will certainly recommend this book again and again!

The author wrote a free spirited book and brought to life with amazing characters as well. I enjoyed their writing style, and how the story went, not too fast, and certainly not slow. Just right. Highly recommend this awesome story/book and of course such a talented author as this one!

This is the great first book in a new hockey series. I had never previously read any of this author’s work but I love a hockey romance so decided to give it a chance. I’m so glad that I did because I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the series.
It is a second chance romance which is also a trope that I really enjoy reading so that’s another plus point for this book.
I was pulled into the story from the very first chapter but was confused by one thing. I was sure this story was a bout Brynn and Levi, so why was I reading about Brynn and the very hot Bridger? I even went back to the synopsis to check. All was soon revealed. If only I had given the story a real chance to get started.
I really enjoyed reading Brynn and Levi’s story. Both are really great characters to read and I could have read about them for hours.
One thing I loved about this book is the cast of secondary characters: Brynn’s very feisty best friend Tia and the rest of Levi’s team mates. Their interactions make for some very fun and enjoyable reading. I laughed a lot while reading this book.
I really can’t wait to read Tia and Bridger’s story which comes next and then whatever else the author has in store for the Astoria Bay Thunder hockey boys.

Power Play: A Second Chance Hockey Romance (Astoria Bay Thunder #1) by CJ Cartwright

This is the first book I've read by the author. It won't be my last by the author either. I can't wait until the next book comes out. I hope to see more of Brynn and Levi. Power Play is the first book in the Astoria Bay Thunder Series.

Levi is making his dreams come true by playing pro hockey. The team gets fans to come down to shoot a goal and Mac is one of them. With the help of his teammates is he going to be able win her over? The quote I chose for Levi is: “If you boys are done stripping, maybe we can get to practice. No one is going to buy a fucking calendar from a team that doesn’t win. Unless you plan on asking the Kodiaks to come pose with you?”

Brynn is newly divorced and starting her dream. Only it's not as easy as she thought it was going to be and she runs into an old flame. With her best friend's help can she tell the guy she still loves him? The quote I chose for Brynn is: “Um, that’s great, Levi - but maybe less serial killer and more… soft? This is supposed to inspire feelings of lust or admiration… not fear.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Sports Romance lovers.

Brynn and Levi’s story of finding their way back to each other is filled with comedy, regret, heart break and ultimately love. Brynn has just getting on her feet and working to keep her independence, she really wants to stand on her own two feet. She wants no help from her family which from the bits and pieces you get throughout the story makes perfect sense. She decides to return to her passion, photography. With a bit of a ruff start on that front she takes side jobs taking pictures at events. One such job is the start of reuniting her with her first love, Levi. While working a birthday party Brynn meets Bridger, who takes her card and later contacts her about a job taking photos for a team fundraiser. After accepting the job Byrnn wins a radio contest to on of the hockey games. From here, Brynn and Levi start back on the road to finding each other, learning who the other is now, working through past hurts. Will they be able to have what they once did? Power play is worth the read to find out. It has great support charterers, flows well even has a bit of comedy. There were a few areas I would have liked more of the back story to, but those places do not take away from the story. I would recommend reading this book. It is worth it.

Levi has always had his eyes on hockey ever since he was a small child, now the captain of Astoria Bay his career is going great but he has always struggled with love, although his heart has always belong to the girl he left behind years before.

Brynn has had enough of life at the moment going wrong, recently divorced and looking to get her career online she is ready for a change. Hoping that her photography business will take off she is running on empty at the moment. Until she scores a job snapping pictures of a rich family hoping this will catapult her into the society circles, if only she knew what was instore.

This story was the first I had read by this author and what a well written story it was. I was drawn into the main characters from the word go and was invested in the love story which finally happened in the end. I am always in for a good Alpha male character and Levi is a lovable, strong emotional character from the start, this with the complementary strong female role in Brynn and the story jumped off the page.

I also thought he secondary characters added another dimension to the whole story and there is obviously scope for each to have their own story told. I can't wait to read the next instalment and more instalments to come.

These two grew up together they were stuck together like peanut butter and jelly, but life took a path that separated them two of them. Brynn is a struggling divorced photographer, who has come back home and trying to make photographer work to provide a living for herself. Levi sexy as all get out famous team captain a little on the shy side and wants love not someone who only sees his bank account but him. Brynn won tickets to the game and was offered the job of taking the picture for the charity calendar the sexy team do every year thus ensuring she will run into her first true love. Neither of them forgot the other fate has stepped in giving them a second chance and the chemistry is still just as intense as it was so many years ago but the pain/hurt is still being felt as well so the questions would be what or who really broke them apart, will they grab the second chance fate has given them, and this time around will they find happiness?

Power Play (Astoria Bay Thunder Book 1) by CJ Cartwright. This is such a fun second chance romance. Its the story of Brynn and Levi who were sweethearts until their families got involved mostly Brynn's mom and caused them to break up. Brynn has always felt like Levi was the one that got away and when she wins a package ticket to go see the Astoria Bay Thunder Hockey team and have one on one time with the team Captain Levi it brings her back to her lost Levi. When she meet this Levi she doesn't realize its her old Levi and he doesn't let her know. Brynn has recently been thru a rough divorce and has decided to pursue her dreams of being a photographer so when she is asked to take the team photo for the Hockey Team she almost declines. Levi has realized that his feelings for Brynn have never gone away. Once Byrnn realizes its her old Levi the sparks are still there. Will they be able to rekindle their old love? Will Brynn be able to put her broken marriage behind her enough to give Levi another chance? Read Power Play to find out!

This was a fun one to get lost in and devour! I have never had the chance to experience this author before but I can tell you it won’t be my last that is for sure! I just loved this steamy and sassy read and I had no idea what I was going to get when I picked it up. Normally I love sports romances and the cover and blurbs with a few teasers sold me when they crossed my timeline. I knew I had to see what the outcome would be after Brynn smacks Levi in the nuts lol. I was not disappointed at all. This book really dove so much more into matters of the heart. I found myself laughing out loud, oohing and ahhing at the sweetness at times, finding it smexy hot and smoldering, and downright angst at others. It had all the pieces I needed for the perfect romance and really it kept me up way past my bedtime because I just needed to know how these two would play out and if they would get the happily ever after. I am excited that this will be the beginning of a series so there will be more to come from Astoria Bay Thunder. I will for sure be back for more!

Power Play is a second chance love AND a sports romance. Two of my favorites in one!! I can’t tell you how much I loved this book, this writing style, the characters. I love it all so much. The story is about Levi and Brynn (Mac). Ten years previously they walked away from each other, walked away from their love and went down different paths. Now, a chance encounter has brought them together again and at first they don’t even recognize each other. Levi is still in love with her and never got over her. Brynn still has feelings from before but she is only a few months divorced from her ex husband. Brynn is very reluctant to pick back up where they left off so many years ago, and Levi doesn’t understand her apprehension. The ending is just perfect! This was such a fulfilling, easy, read. I give it 5 stars and will definitely read again. I always reread my favorites. I LOVE so many of the other characters…Tia and Bridger specifically. I can’t wait for their book. Hopefully we will get an update on Levi and Brynn in it.

Brynn Mackintosh has moved to Astoria Bay for a fresh start after her divorce, she has a plan to become a professional photographer and follow her dreams. For Brynn she was optimistic about this life changing choice until all her efforts are not bringing in the amount of customers she needs. Then she gets a photo shoot that brings her business doing a calendar for Astoria Bay Thunder the Hockey team. This is a dream come true but when she realizes the team captain is Levi Fawkes it is with mixed feelings.

Levi always regretted the one who got away, seeing Brynn he realizes she is the girl he has thought about for years. Can Levi convince Brynn he is worth a second chance?

This book was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the chemistry between Levi and Brynn, their introduction is not smooth sailing and it was riddled with humor. Brynn is feisty and the banter she has with the other characters is hilarious. Levi is the broody one and he owns it throughout the book. Wonderful start to a new series.

3.5 stars probably. I didn’t find the book to be… that fabulous. BUT there were so many quotes and highlights that were absolutely phenomenal I just couldn’t lower my rating. I enjoyed the plot, but just was missing a lot of character growth in my opinion. However the inside the head dialogue was absolutely hilarious, and I did enjoy the banter. I just wanted more.

Levi and Brynn were in love at one point in their young adult life. Levi left after Brynn’s mother told him it was for the best, and they never saw each other again. Ten years later, Brynn is freshly divorced and is getting her photography career off the ground. That’s when she meets a Hockey player, and subsequently ends up seeing Levi again. At first she doesn’t realize it’s him, because he has a different last name (this made my eye roll!), but when he tells her who he is, they reconnect.

Their reconnection is awkward and clunky. They obviously have sexual chemistry. But the meat of the relation and romance was missing for me.

Byrann has just got out of a bad married and is starting over in new town. She is trying to start her photography up ago which she loves. She win ticket for the Thunder hockey game from the radio station. She had met one of the hockey player Bridger McKeity at his little brother birthday party as his stepmother had hire her. Bridger has now call her to take picture of the team (tasteful, sexy calendar)to raise money for the Hockey Academy Scholarship Fund Byrann thinks that by wining the ticket to the game it will hope with seeing the guy in action. During the halftime she is brought out to shot a puck in the net but, it does not go good as she hit a player in the balls with the stick. See what happen from there and the fact that they know each other at one time. You laugh and cry thought it but it funny.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Brynn and Levi's Second Chance . . .

Levi Fawkes is the captain of the Astoria Bay Thunder hockey team. He had to walk away from the love of his life, Brynn, long ago when her mother told him he was holding her back from her dreams. Now he just puts his heart into the game to be the best on the ice.

Brynn Mackintosh is recently divorced and needs a new start. She is a photographer and hopes to become successful. When she calls into a local radio show, she wins a ticket to a home game for the Thunder and will get out on the ice to meet their Captain. Facing Levi again does not go well. She is unaware that her mother had split them apart and she takes her anger out on Levi.

When Brynn is offered the job of doing the photos for the team’s calendar, will she and Levi find a second-chance to regain the love they had walked away from? Or is the pain from their past too much to forgive?

This was a good four star read.
After divorce Brynn is starting life over with her cat and following her dream of photography.
She ends up doing a job at a very ritzy home where she meets someone who will bring her in the path of someone from her past.

She also wins a radio contest to go to the hockey game. This is where she see’s Levi and he realizes who she is and old sparks start to fly. With a twist she ends up shooting a calendar for the team at Levi’s cabin. Will this finally be the time for them to reconnect? What will happen when the truth finally comes out?

Overall this was a good read. Brynn had me LOL with her thoughts, she was quirky and down to earth. Levi was of course the hot hockey player who wanted his first love back. There are twists and turns and the secondary characters added a great element to the story. If you're looking for a fun 2nd Chance romance 1-click and get started today.

Power Play (Astoria Bay Thunder Book 1) by CJ Cartwright

Power Play is the first book in the Astoria Bay Thunder Series. This is a Second Chance Hockey Romance that once you start reading you won’t want to put down till you finish. The characters are relatable and fully developed and the authors style of writing simply amazes me. This second chance romance had my emotions all over the place . Levi is the Captain of a local Professional Hockey team and Brynn is recently divorced and trying to get her life back. These two had a summer romance years ago and now he wants to win her back, she’s the one that got away and he never stopped loving her. Can they reunite? Is it to late for them to have a relationship? The chemistry between these to wow! I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. This is definitely a great start to this series I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Power Play (Astoria Bay Thunder Book 1) by C.J Cartwright
4 Stars

Levi and Brynn haven’t seen each other in ten years. The pain of a first love ending haunts them both. Neither have fully recovered from it. Many things have changed since they were teenagers. Levi is now a professional hockey player (captain no less) and Brynn is recently divorced, striving to gain her freedom and take her life back. Chance has brought them together again and their chemistry is still burning hot. Can they finally have their happily ever after or will the wounds of the past ruin their future together?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well written and the characters were likeable. Levi and Brynn’s chemistry was off the charts and their story is so romantic. The thing I love most is that there wasn’t too much drama. The story flowed well, it’s just a feel good read. I’m hoping to read about Tia and Bridger’s story next.

This book is an amazing read. You get wrapped in the characters and invested in their stories almost immediately. It’s a well-written book and the beginning of the Astoria Bay Thunder series.

This book follows the heart-wrenching and heart-melting love story of Brynn and Levi. Brynn is a woman that has been through a lot in the last couple of years leading up to the start of the book. She is a determined independent powerhouse that won’t let anything prevent her from achieving her dreams. Levi is a professional hockey player that has more than just a few “adoring” female fans.

Read this book to watch their love story unfold and to their fall back into love with each other. Like all great love stories, you get to watch these endure many things that should have torn their love apart. You won’t want to put this book down once you start. The book is the perfect length not too long and not too short. Would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance and enemies to lovers.
