Kniha Objevování modlitby je velmi praktickou knihou o modlitbě. Je rozdělena do dvou částí. V první části autorka ukazuje, co je to modlitba a jaké má podoby. Nabízí tak srozumitelný úvod do modlitby pro ty, kdo jsou na počátku života víry. V druhé části se zaměřuje na to, jakým způsobem se můžeme modlit a jak můžeme při modlitbě využít naše smysly. Za každou kapitolou jsou uvedeny dvě modlitební cvičení, které čtenářům pomohou přiblížit se k Bohu skrze různé podněty při modlitbě. V jednom ze cvičení například autorka vybízí čtenáře k tomu, aby dali Modlitbě Páně svá vlastní slova. V jiném cvičení popisuje, jak při modlitbě využíváme dotyk a tvarujeme hrnčířskou hlínu. Ukazuje, jak důležitá jsou při modlitbě slova, ale stejně tak i tiché rozjímání. Objevování modlitby je kniha, která ukazuje nové dimenze modlitby, a při níž čtenář nezůstane pouze u čtení, ale využije všechny své smysly. Může člověku pomoci postavit pevné základy života modlitby, který je tak zásadní pro život s Bohem.

About the author

Sue Mayfield has written eight novels for young adults including 'I Carried You on Eagles’ Wings', 'Blue' and 'Damage'. Her first historical novel 'Hill of the Angels' will be published in June 2016. Many of her stories are about young people overcoming difficulties and explore themes of loss, friendship and forgiveness. She is currently working on a story about the healing relationship between a girl and a horse. As well as fiction, Sue has written two non-fiction books about bereavement. Originally a teacher, and now a professional counsellor, Sue facilitates other people’s writing in a wide range of places including schools, museums, hospitals and GP practices. She is particularly interested in the relationship between words and health and helps people ‘write themselves well’ in her private practice ‘finding words’ and at Maggie’s Centre, Cheltenham.. She is currently writer in residence for 'Beyond Words' a joint project for young people organised by Cheltenham Festival and Gloucestershire Hospitals Education Service.

I don't think the synopsis given for this book does it justice. It really leads you to expect one thing, but while reading it, if you're serious about different aspects of prayer, this is a great book to read. Even if you're deep in your faith and think you know how to pray or you know what prayer is, this book will give you new insights in how to do it and why. I recommend this book to those curious about faith and prayer, as well as those who feel they are solid in their faith and prayer practices.
