PROPHECIES ARE A GIRL'S WORST NIGHTMARE.

I definitely angered a vengeful god in a past life.
I was minding my business and enjoying my deliciously forbidden relationship with Nox, my hot demon warden, and then bang! Two demon royals are trying to kill me.
Why? Because a lovely prophecy says that I am the Harbinger. The Catalyst who shall ignite the final war between Heaven and Hell. Ya know, the freaking Apocalypse.
Nox and I do our best to keep my half-immortal backside alive, but it's no easy task. New enemies pop up like daisies, and old ones come back even from the dead.
Am I strong enough to subvert the prophecy and help Nox destroy our foes? No idea, but I sure as Hell will fight with everything I have, even if I burn.
I love playing with fire, anyway.

The second installment of The Cursed and The Fallen series.

Selene Kallan is a fantasy author who daydreams about her imaginary worlds most of the time. Her obsession with vampires, and all things supernatural, has made her an avid reader. She loves writing, discovering new metal bands, and watching superhero movies. She is also feeling a little crazy while writing about herself in third person, but apparently, this is the way to go.

Just finished this roller-coaster ride of a sexy, cinematic fantasy by one of my favorite writers, Selene Kallan - this series showcasing my top book boyfriend of all time - the wry, black-wearing, violet-eyed, onyx horned (omg what is it about HORNS), winged, omelette making, demon Nox (which is short for Astherinox - Selene has a talent for, perhaps, the sexiest fantasy names of all time...there is quite the display of them in this volume). Selene's trademark talent for settings goes into galactic hyperdrive in this installation in her interlinked book universe - I have never enjoyed time in hell as much as I have here. And I've come away with a completely weird affection for the giant serpent Apeth as well as the mysterious Oracle (new favorite characters - I want a side novella just about the Oracle...and Apeth...and a Team Apeth t-shirt). Apocalyptic stakes (perhaps one of the most turbo-charged "star-crossed lovers" story every constructed - what if consummating a relationship would actually trigger Armageddon?), Dinah's trademark wit, Nox and Dinah's explosive chemistry and perhaps the most wildly charming and wildly weird "found family" in all of fantasy - who I just want to keep spending time with, all make for a very enjoyable read. Selene just keeps getting better and better. #TeamApeth #NoxIsMine #Omelettes Recommended.

3.75 stars. While I won't deny its a very good story that definitely kept me up past my bedtime a few times, I also can't deny that I found the first half of it tedius and repeatative, enough so that I almost DNF. More than once.

Battle-->emotional betrayals-->Dinah ends up near death-->Nox leaves because its dangerous to be together-->time passes-->they make up-->happy shiny people feeling mostly fine-->Battle

Lather, rinse, repeat. No, really... the order changes slightly, and Nox is almost destroyed a time or two as well to mix things up a smidge, but the pattern repeats at least 4 times in 300 pages before they finally get their shit together. I get that it was method intended for Dinah to grow into her own without a big scary demon prince to hide behind, but I also think it was a huge disservice to everyone involved, and they could have still gotten there with half as many pages. And, as mentioned earlier... it made for incredibly tedious first half.

It does get better around the midway point, though, when we get actual forward motion instead of just stagnant moping (though fair warning, a variation of the pattern does get repeated a few more times). And the realistic portrayal of trauma and panic attacks and trying to heal spiritually, emotionally, and physically from living through trauma is spot on - in all its terrifying, shaking, nauseous glory. 😞

Over all seeing the characters heal and grow to the point where the traumas they experienced no longer control them is a very good thing, but definitely practice your own self care and go in knowing it might be a rough ride.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and thought it was another good addition to the Cursed and the Fallen Series. Dinah and Nox, are soul mates but apparently their love is forbidden. It’s been prophesied that if they seal their bond, join their souls that it’ll be the catalyst that ignites the final war between heaven and hell. Two demon royals are trying to kill Dinah and the Asteri aren’t happy either. Dinah has had a lot of growth since book one. Not only in her power since she regained her full Asteri power but her inner strength. I thought that Nox going awol was annoying, considering he never agreed to stay away from Dinah when he entered the binding agreement with Lilith to save Dinah.

They just can’t seal their bond if it’ll cause the apocalypse. I suppose it must’ve been due to what he saw with the visions when he went to see the Oracle to find out more about the prophecy that scared him and made him leave Dinah and their friends to protect them all. I really liked the feeling of found family that Selene always has in her books. I still think that the chemistry between Dinah and Nox was off the charts. Both Dinah and Nox are tested to the limit during this book on more than one occasion, and they’re constantly being underestimated. I really like Ashleon and I’m hoping that we’ll eventually get to meet Nox’s father. I’m looking forward to reading the next book, Starfire Ascending and getting more of Dinah and Nox. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.

I enjoyed the second book in The Cursed and the Fallen series just as much as I enjoyed the first.

Definite star-crossed lovers vibes amongst many of the characters. Lots of steamy scenes to make your heart beat faster. 😏 The world-building and character development in Nephilim Harbinger remain on par with Demon Warden. I appreciate getting closer looks at some of the other characters too, and learning more about the whole history behind Dinah's and Nox's parentage/heritage, as well as the battle between so-called good and evil. I really relate to Kallan's take on certain celestial things.

As with the first, there's a playlist, trigger warnings, and bonus (super spicy) scenes included! I really appreciate these sorts of little extras that give you more insight into both the book and the author.

I'm excited to dive into the third and final book of the series to see the outcome (Kallan's promised no cliffhangers)!

The book picks up where the last one left off, both in plot and enjoyment. Dinah has some good character development, which she needed. The only issue I had with the book is that the whole thing about the soul-bonding and Nox's promise was poorly handled. I thought the way Nox phrased it was intended as a loophole, but everyone viewed it as more restrictive than he actually said (including him!)* It got really frustrating that no one seemed to realize that Nox was torturing himself and Dinah for no reason!

* SPOILER
Nox promised not to soul-bond with Dinah. He did not promise to stay away from her. There was nothing stopping them from spending time together, living together, everything they were doing, so long as it remained at that level.

DNF at 64%. I just couldn’t take the whiplash anymore. And the constant trauma and working through the trauma. Of EVERYONE.

It’s not like this doesn’t exist in the real world. But I read to escape. I enjoy how so much is glossed over in PNR/UF romances. It’s like in the movies when the music plays and the MC is training for months and gets stronger and more powerful and we just get an overview. That’s what I want to read. This is just too REAL for me, maybe?

Anyway, that’s why the 4 stars instead of 3. Because it’s not the author’s fault that it’s not what I want. She writes well. The storyline, while taking forever to get through, is interesting. The characters are mostly likeable. But I just can’t continue slogging through the turmoil.

Bravo!

Selene manages to outdo her first book in this sequel. We continue to learn more about the world and who the movers and shakers are. Dinah continues her explosive growth in knowledge and power. One thing I really like is the wisdom of a number of secondary characters..
There is no cliffhanger, but the bad guys will be back..

Now I really want to meet Nox’s dad!

Selene has written another fun, action packed, hot and sexy, gritty urban fantasy. The character development is great and the narrative had me reading every chance I had to see what happens next! Selene describes the fantasy world and the creatures that inhabit it so well. This is definitely on the list of my favorite fantasy series.

This is the second book in the trilogy. One HELL of a rollercoaster ride. Romance and friends, peril, romance and friends, peril, etc.

The action is intense. The love story has a plot-mandated long-burn arc that is rough on both Nox and Dinah. Very rough.

I love the character development. The theology is... fascinating. Really fascinating.

Anyways, a great ride. Highly recommended.

Everyone’s constantly battling, regenerating their physical vessels, or having sex with each other. What’s not to like?
I’d love to know how many “inter dimensional pockets” nox has hidden away somewhere

Pure love!

An amazing mix of drama, fluff, and passion, heartbreak, vengeance and found family. It's more or less perfection. A must read.
