Sands of Wonder #2

Guardian of Thieves

Rate this book
With Abudar taken by The Veil, Mihrage's previous leader showing up out of the blue, and the thieves relocating to a new home, there's hardly enough time to eat, let alone rest. Everything only gets worse when the pirate, Sinbad, steals Igborg.

But that's just the tiniest of problems. Mithra has an enchanted ruby from my family vault and is gaining power daily. I must save Abudar and find a way stop her before Mithra does something she's going to regret.

With the throne, and entire kingdom, now at risk I'm faced with the most critical choice of my life: follow in my father's footsteps, or accept my destiny and become a sentinel.

None of us expected Mithra's power would explode.

Who are you destined to be? Find out in this adventure-packed retelling of Aladdin!

Personal dragon trainer, lover of glitter, writer of fantasy.

Reading has always been a huge passion, from The Hobbit to Goosebumps. Some of my fondest memories are at the library or being read to, and when I embarked on my journey of becoming an author, I did so with the dream of sharing the worlds in my mind with others.

I currently live in Salt Lake City, UT with my adorable King Charles, Perseus, and work full-time as a special education preschool teacher.

I am a USA Today Bestselling author and was nominated for "Unforgettable Book of the Year" for The Beast Princess and "Mind-Blowing Fantasy of the Year" for The Siren Princess at Penned Con 2020, and as Best Debut Author at UtopiaCon in 2017 for Step Right Up (now Circus of the Stars, Ringmaster).

This book was much more rushed than the first one and there were many plot holes to prove it. Felt like there were two different drafts that accidentally merged into one and that many things happened way too quickly. Would’ve been better to split into 2 books and have things occur at a less rushed pace-> ex: Sinbad stuff was WAY too rushed. Healing from that encounter also happened way too quickly if the sorceress was only able to make the wounds scab up, but not be healed. Everything just happened way too quickly, like traveling to places—when in book one they traveled the desert for two days and knew they wouldn’t survive full journey back to the castle. How did Mihrage save his sister and make it back to the thieves in a matter of days. Also: Mithra explains that you can’t create a portal to places they haven’t seen before… and soon after, everyone is using portals to go places they’ve never seen…

My favorite part: Igborg! Such a cute little dragon.

Best book yet by Lichelle Slater

This book from Lichelle Slater is hands down my favorite. Her character development in The Sands of Wonder series was very good, imo. I read this final book in a day and a half, life happened or it would have been done quicker. And I really want to continue the story of Caspara and Abudar, their sentinel experiences as well as what is happening with Igborg. So please, dear author, if by chance my review finds you, could you give us more time with them. Thanks 😉

Satisfying conclusion to a perfect duology

Would have liked to see more of this world perhaps focusing on other characters.
Plot twists you never see coming and treachery is afoot.
We meet a whole cast of characters that each have a role to play
This is in continuation from the Villain's ever after,
The Sultan and the Storyteller

If you have a liking for Arabian Knights adventures with a gender twist, and a kitchen sink of stories thrown in, then this is the book for you. The characters are all likable and even the main antagonist ends up being sympathetic by the end.
