A Violent Agenda #2

A Legacy of Sorrow

Rate this book
Lust fuels the worst evil. Love is overrated.
Killing for retribution is everything I’ve ever wanted...

They’re all going to die.

Those who have sinned will know it. Sorrow. I’ll carve it in their bloody hearts if I have to.
I can’t help it. This is who I am.

Their angel of death

My boys…they think they know me. Think they have me tamed. That they can handle me and then walk away.

They’re wrong. The way they look at me, desire me, dream of me, is a weakness. One I’ll play upon. Even if it means I have to hurt them too. We’re deep in this game, there’s no getting out.

Because in the end, they all lie.
Dark, cruel, and callous.
The real monster is coming.

We just don’t know it yet.

This picks up where we left off and here Viola Lorcan Dino and Jude have relocated schools. The boys have also contracted Viola to work through a list of targets which is a good thing as her refusal to complete her last job means work is currently a bit thin on the ground her reputation shot.

There’s mystery and intrigue and so much delicious heat as this lot strengthen their bonds growing closer. There's also a price on our girl's head and a shadow from Viola’s past in the form of Dante who makes it his mission to play cat and mouse with Viola and her boys.

This all comes to a head with Viola’s past firmly catching up with her and Dante also seems to be heavily intertwined with it. This then finished at a crucial pivotal point and I was definitely left wanting more.

This was an excellent well written read that easily kept my attention and I definitely recommend reading especially if you like twisty dark stories that keep you guessing.

This series has been an insane ride thus far. I for one, am obsessed. My favorite part about the books have been Viola. She continues to be a badass and put her men to shame. This book does deal a lot with furthering their relationship. I have yet to warm up to Jude who until a very short while ago was on a drug and sex bender. But I do have to remind myself the world the guys live in and that this is the way he copes. Not only that but a lot more of who Viola is became apparent. I’m 99% sure she’s a sociopath, which I’m living for. She often struggles blending in because it requires so much emotion, something she has never understood. Her skills come from reading people, imitating and falsifying a persona that’s just not the real her. Even with the guys, I feel as if now for her it’s more of an obsession thing. Sure she likes them but for her getting to the point of any emotion even resembling love will be extremely hard. Then again with the horrible cliffhanger we’re left with, it’s clear to see Viola and the men are going to have to cross some treacherous roads if they ever expect to ride off into the sunset. The one villain Viola fears the most has her in his clutches in the end. One of the guys is locked up, one is literally beaten up barely able to move and the last is hiding so many secrets he’ll be lucky if Viola doesn’t strap him to her table. It’s a bloody mess and I’m here for it, though clearly I’m deliriously happy having waited to read this until the series is complete. Everything is building from the action/drama to the sexual tension and while I’m nervous what the future holds, I’m beyond ready for Viola to paint the world red 😈😈😈

This would ave to be one of my most anticipated book releases of 2021.

Viola is back with her guys. Questions from book 1 are answered but now we have new unanswered ones.

It continues to be action packed, intoxicating, intense, sexy dark and dangerous.

It's so unpredictable. Just when I thought I had it all figured out. It's takes a turn that I never would have expected.

It kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to end.

That ending has me wanting so much more. Bring on book 3.

I'm so disappointed. I liked the first book, it had it flaws but I enjoyed it mostly, but this? So weak. Viola is supposed to be this really cool assassin but lets three high school boys treat her like a naughty child. Always claiming how she could kill them and is not willing to be treated that way but then she just let's it happen? Also all this statements about her not being able to feel things while all she does proves that she does, is just annoying. If you want your main character to have the development from the unfeeling murderous creature to this person who only feels for a special group of people I need there to be an actual development but she acts really emotional from the beginning. Also for a great RH book there needs to be this special relationship to everyone, in my opinion, but in this story I really only saw it with Lorcan, the others felt replaceable (even though I like Dino the most) and I did not like it. The series does have more plot than most of these kind of books, especially the first book, this one gave the expression as if it had a lot of plot but if you look back on it you realise nothing really happened after the first few chapters until the last chapters.
My last point of criticism is that the development of all the relationships felt forced, jumpy and really unbelievable, there were no reason why the relationships should have developed the way they did, they just did so the book could move on which is kind of unsatisfying and up until the end I wasn't really invested in any of the relationships.

I absolutely hate not finishing a series but I really think it would be a waste of time and there are better books I should invest my time in, but it annoys me and I think the premise of the series was so good that it annoys me even more because I could have loved it. Maybe (probably) someday I will finish the last two books, because they are rather short and free over KU but not now and I actually hope I don't but well... bad habits.

📃 The story 📃
After the events of the last book, the boys employ Viola to work the list of names that they’ve acquired. However, Viola being her crazy self has to deal with more than expected.

This book was a lot steamier than the last book, and I must admit that it made me giggle quite a bit on the train. I still don’t understand the story at all; what is going on man?? I love the murders, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t get who these people are and exactly what they did. I get that there’s some sort of rape ring, but I just need it to be clearer??? I definitely thought that would’ve happened by now, but it hasn’t, which is why my rating dropped too. It’s just all so vague. Many of the deaths were a bit anticlimactic, such as The pacing really picked up near the end, and I loved that. So many twists and turns, I’m scared to see what’ll happen next.

Besides that, the characters are still great. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I’m slowly starting to understand who will be in her harem. I loved that this wasn’t completely obvious from the start because it keeps me on my toes! Can’t wait to see where the story will go from here and whether I’ll understand it more.

📃 The characters 📃
🔪Viola🔪
I still adore Viola, she’s absolutely crazy, and her sociopathic tendencies are showing in this one. It’s clear that she has a hard time trying to act as though she’s a ‘normal’ human being, trying to project the emotions that she thinks she should show. This makes for some quite interesting situations, and I just love how realistic she is. Her personality is still crazy, and although I thought for a second that she was just straight-up stupid without anyone to back her up, she turned out to be smarter than I thought. She’s also slowly starting to relax around the boys, no longer hating to be touched. Love that!

👨‍👨‍👦‍👦The boys👨‍👨‍👦‍👦
The boys seemed their real mafia selves in this one. You couldn’t really see their mafia natures at all in the last book; I wouldn’t have known they were mafia if it wouldn’t have been stated multiple times near the beginning of that book. However, in this book, the boys really started to behave more in line with their backgrounds. Jude finally stopped being such a prick – although he’s still insanely confusing, seriously, does he have multiple personalities or something? His hot and cold with Viola is mighty confusing. Lorcan is still lovely as ever, and I’m glad he’s over his whole ‘pick someone!!’ attitude. I’m not sure how to feel about Dino, although I like him, he doesn’t seem to accept Viola’s nature yet, and he’ll have to do that if he wants to have any future with her. Dante confused the fuck out of me – I loved him, then started to hate him, liked him again, and then hated him again near the end. Dude, what’s going on man??? Pick a freaking side?

📃 Overall conclusion 📃
I once again enjoyed this book. The focus seemed to be more on the characters’ relationships than on the story itself, which I didn’t mind since I still don’t understand the story at all. Viola is still her crazy self, which I love, but the characters really do need to learn how to communicate. There were some steamy scenes in this, and I’m looking forward to seeing even more of those. I once again loved how short these books are, and the ending had me shook – I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next!!

The prequel to A Legacy of Sorrow – A History of Violence – was my introduction to bully romance (an oxymoron if ever I heard one). I loved the mystery of it, the secrets that were gradually revealed while still leaving you thirsting for more. I had hoped that A Legacy of Sorrow would be a continuation of this, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the mark.

A Legacy of Sorrow picks up after the events of A History of Violence and sees V and the guys at a new school and V working her way through the names on her list. She’s still not picked one of the guys, but then it wouldn’t be a reverse harem if she chose between them. I’m hoping that Fox is slowly building up to big group seggsy times because the scene with V, Lorcan and Dino just wasn’t enough for me – I need Jude in there as well!

It felt like very little progress was made towards taking out members of the child prostitution ring that originally brought V to Sacre-Cœur. Sure, we see a murder or two but much of the focus is on the guys getting their inheritences. Other big storylines include Dante’s possible capture of Quinn, the fallout from V drugging Tyler, and preventing Saskia’s impending nuptials. To be honest, without a clear main storyline the book feels disjointed. It’s only in the last three chapters that the link between the various stories emerges and all the reading becomes fulfilling.

At this point, you may be asking how I can justify a four-star review considering my comments? A Legacy of Sorrow was a good book, despite the plot not moving terribly far. Much of my rating is based on the redeeming factors of the final chapters. Without the rest of the story the reader would not be set up for the final revelations and in place to read the next book in the series. Think of this book as the calm before the storm, we just don’t know how bad it’s going to be yet.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ A LEGACY OF SORROW
* Deliciously crazy female main character
* Curious mini storylines throughout
* That cliffhanger ending

A Legacy Of Sorrow is book 2 in the A Violent Agenda series, it absolutely needs to be read in order, as each book ends on a cliffhanger. I didn't think I would enjoy this series as much as I am. I wasn't sure about why choose anymore, but this series is making it highly enjoyable for me again. This book is filled with spice, murder, intrigue and nonstop action, it's impossible to look away or not be entertained throughout. The storyline is so interesting and fun to follow, I can't wait to continue reading!

Viola is once again such a bad*ss, she does have massive social issues and is most likely a physcopath, but honestly I am here for it. We also get to see a little more into who Viola is for real and not the persona she gives to everyone. We got a lot more of the relationship with each men in this one and how they evolve. There are many twists and turns that I wasn't expecting. There were some parts were it was a little confusing, but I think the author set it up that way for that crazy cliffhanger. I just know that the following books are going to be insane.

Overall, I enjoyed this installment in the series. Loved the development of the relationships and seeing Viola be who she really is. The storyline was entertaining and I had fun through it all!

🎧 The narration by Hannah Hedley & Lucas Webley was great, I absolutely love their accents. It does sometimes get confusing which male character is speaking so you definitely have to be attentive to the beginning of the chapter where the name is being mentioned. I think they truly play their parts phenomenally and they both keep me engaged.

✨️Thank you to @valentinepr & @malloryfox for my gifted audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

& the plot thickens!! This series is so fun to listen to! We’ve got a baddie fmc who takes no 💩, who knows how to end you with her bare hands and her merry hands of men!

The relationships with the guys starts to develop more in this second book, and you start to feel the connections Viola is forming with them all. Baring in mind that I go into my books blind, I’m not sold on if Dante will become one of her men yet, or if he’s truly just the villain lol. But either way, I’m here for seeing him brought to his knees!! There ending has me convinced he’s going to be, so I’m definitely interested to see how that all unfolds.

I’m 100% invested in where this plot line is going and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, considering the minor cliffy!!

The audio production for this is amazing. I love Lucas and Hannah together. Lucas is so good at making each guy unique and they each have their own voice, which I loved! Hannah’s voice is exactly what I would’ve pictured for Viola. It’s kinda sultry, and monotone, but not in a bad way! It totally fits Viola’s character.

I’m really enjoying this series and can’t wait o get into the next book! Highly recommend picking this series up if you love dark why choose romances, with a baddie fmc who knows how to use a knife or two. 😉

A Legacy of Sorrow by Mallory Fox is a dark reverse harem serial killer bully romance. This is the second book in A Violent Agenda series.

The book comes with an authors note: "A Legacy of Sorrow is a serial killer romance intended for mature audiences. Some scenes contain graphic violence and potentially triggering moments. Please read at your own discretion."

This is the second book of Mallory's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed getting Viola, Dino, Lorcan, Jude, and Dante's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I am loving the relationship that is slowly blooming between Viola, Lorcan, Dino, and Jude. They are all broken in different ways and you can't help but root for them. Without giving any of the story away I have to say that I loved getting more of Dante's story and I can't wait to see what will become of his character over the course of the series.

The book ends on an amazing cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next book in the series A Promise of Torment to be released so I can get more of Viola and her men.

I would recommend the book if you like dark romances, reverse harem romances, serial killer romances, or assassin romances.

I freaking LOVE Viola! She is crazy, bold, not afraid of anyone, and owns who she is. She is definitely on my top list for favorite FMC's. I love her men too, although one was begging for me to strangle him. I just want him to get with the program 🤣🤣

From page one of this book, you get action and it does let up. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. A Legacy of Sorrow is a bit bloody, little steamy, lots of crazy...

Everytime Viola did something that was a bit unhinged, it made me swoon! I love a good psycho character and Viola is just perfect. She's a stab first, ask questions second girl and her guys cannot contain her, she does whatever she wants, when she wants.

I thought that I knew where something was going a few times, and then I'm hit with something I wasn't anticipating. I was not expecting those last few chapters! I am shocked! There are so many different pieces and moving parts to this puzzle and I need answers! I need to know what's going to happen!

Oh my God! What was that ending? I’m internally screaming at you right now 🤣

The 2nd book in the series continues following Viola as an assassin for hire. This book also has 3 hot young men in her life which at times gets very steamy 🥵 (the scene with Jude 😜 but that’s all I will say)

The games being played and the different twists between everyone had me on the edge of my seat, I was not expending all these plot changes and it was amazing. I loved that Dante had more involvement with everything that was going on.

Again this is a multiple POV book so you get to see all the main characters emotions and actions.

The spice was awesome, the violence amazing and just the whole story line has me gripped. I can’t wait to see where this goes.

Another huge 5⭐️ read.

A Legacy of Sorrow is the much anticipated book 2 in the Violent Agenda series. In just one click I’m reunited with Viola and her men. And in just one click, I’m immediately thrusted with violence and intrigue. Exactly what I needed. Questions from book 1 answered. But more questions arise with each chapter. I started this book just before I had to go to work, and all through my shift, my mind flits in and out with everything that I’ve read so far. There’s so much more to Viola’s story. More drama unfolds as I inch closer and closer to the end of this book. And of course it ends just way too soon. I’m looking forward to book 3.

This book is dark, but definitely not as dark as book one, in my opinion, which I was a tad bummed about. V is a character on her own level and her craziness and brutality is in a leave of its own. I love Mallory’s writing style and ability to get into this kind of characters head and wanted more of that.

I didn’t feel like this book was a great continuation from book one leading to book two. There was a lot around V and the dynamics with the guys that did not make much sense at all. There was a lot of fluff/filler here.

I will say the cliffhanger was brutal and definitely made sure you were going to continue the series into book 3.

Wow! I absolutely love this series. V and her men kept me on my toes this entire book. Just when you think you have your questions answered the book sends you in another direction. This book is a melting pot of sub genres and drama galore and I am here for it. Although, not the spiciest read it kept me entertained 100%. I’m anxious to see where V journey ends. I can’t wait for book 3. THAT CLIFFHANGER IS KILLER. 5/5 would recommend this book!

Viola is back with a vengeance, She is my type of girl and I have been waiting for book 2 to be released for awhile now. Viola doesn't take shit from anyone and she is crazy as all fuck. I finally got the answers I needed but now I have a whole heap of more questions I need answered. I think I enjoyed this book more than the first and I did not think that would be possible.

The sexual tension between them all is still hot AF and I am left wanting more.

I love when we get a good series with cliffhanger answers from the prior book but yet new twists and turns and cliffhangers on this to lead us into the next.

There’s so much going on. There’s big picture but then all the characters have their own side stories and challenges they are facing which keeps it all interesting and always captivating.

Viola is just the ultimate heroine. She kicks butt and takes names. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for book 3.

Ok... Why end it there? My poor heart can't take it.

I competently didn't see that coming, I'm thinking? I will need to re-read to see when I missed it.

This book is better than the first, she did seem like a loose cannon at the beginning, but I feel like it because of the deception from book one, even though the guys are being bizarre, I did like the craziness, I need the next book.

Back with our little badass, female vigilante Viola! But things have changed since book one.

She's still masquerading as a student. She's no longer working - or living- alone , now being constantly tracked by the very boys she was hired to kill in book one. And this time, she is no longer on the same side as Dante , her old mentor. And he means business.

Viola struggles with the new dynamics of working with others. She's used to not answering to anyone, going where she wants , killing who she wants and when she wants. She only seems to use them when she needs them - like getting rid of a body, which we know she hates. Any time they try to help, she snaps and growls at them like a feral cat. She thinks she's protecting them, when in fact she's coming across very cold and very selfish to the boys. They have no idea how to break thru the barriers she keeps putting up, and then keeps changing the rules about how they can get in daily.

There is more difference with this  book. There is less coverage of her doing her Wicked dark deeds. Instead were informed that they're done and we move on. There is instead more information about her, the boys, quinn and Dante. And of course Harley-Black.

The boys are facing their own battles aswell as the constant, ongoing, exhausting one that is Viola. Lorcan is fighting for his sister and their inheritance,  Dino is being pulled back into a family he had tried to escape. Jude? Jude is being worrisome with his constant drinking, drugs and sleeping around - avoidance and self destruction at its finest.

With these fractures between the team, it's only natural bad things happen. And Viola thinks by giving herself to Dante and his employer she's saving the boys and believing she won't be badly hurt.

We leave her about to test that theory, Dante leaving her in his rearview mirror with mixed feelings and the three boys tearing their hair out not knowing where to look!

I believe the next book - a combination of action and info - is going to becexplosice and I can't wait!!!

It's always a thrill when a highly anticipated book lives up to the hype, and A Legacy of Sorrows by Mallory Fox, narrated by Hannah Hedley and Lucas Webley, absolutely delivers. As one of my most anticipated releases, this audiobook plunges listeners back into Viola's dark and dangerous world, and it does not disappoint.

From the first chapter, the audiobook grabs you and refuses to let go. Fox masterfully weaves a tale that is as action-packed and intoxicating as it is intense and sexy. The tagline "Lust fuels the worst evil. Love is overrated. Killing for retribution is everything I've ever wanted..." sets the perfect tone for the journey ahead. Viola is back with her enigmatic "boys," and while some burning questions from book one are satisfyingly answered, new layers of mystery are introduced, keeping you guessing at every turn.

What truly sets A Legacy of Sorrows apart is its unpredictability. Just when I thought I had a handle on the plot, a sudden twist would completely derail my theories, sending the narrative in a direction I never could have foreseen. This constant element of surprise kept me on the absolute edge of my seat from beginning to end.

Hannah Hedley and Lucas Webley's narration is stellar, perfectly capturing the dark, cruel, and at times, callous atmosphere of the story. Their performances bring Viola's complex character and the dangerous allure of her "boys" to life, making the audio experience even more immersive. The tension, the desire, and the underlying threat of the "real monster" are all expertly conveyed through their voices.

And that ending? Pure torture in the best possible way! It leaves you desperate for more, building anticipation for the next installment. If you're a fan of dark romance, intricate plots, and characters who walk the line between hero and villain, you absolutely need to add A Legacy of Sorrows to your must-listen list. Bring on book three!

A Legacy of Sorrow is the second book of Mallory Fox's Violent Agenda series. Viola, Jude, Lorcan, Dino, and Dante all make a good splash in this installment, but I definitely feel like the pacing of this part slowed down a lot from our first introduction.

We start off where we left off book one, with Viola, the boys, and Saskia starting out at a new school. Viola's still set on taking out her targets on her list, and I had high hopes when we jump right into the action of her chosen profession in the first chapter. Unfortunately, the action slows down quite a bit after that initial hit. This storyline focuses a lot on character and relationship development. Each of the boys has their own issues and agenda's in play, so while the pacing of the storyline is slower, there is still a lot to unpack here. There is almost too many players, seemingly with their own things going on. Right about the end, we start to see some of the different pieces converge, so I have high hopes that we with see everything come together more in the third book.

V's relationship with each of the three guys really starts to take off here. She's resisted getting too involved with any of them, and this story starts out with the guys declaring V needs to make a choice of which one she is going to be with. But why choose when they each bring something different to the table? Jude is my favorite and the one most like V in a lot of ways. I think they butt heads the most because of their similarities, but I think they will do the most good for each other if they just give their relationship a chance. The storyline ends on a cliffhanger with us about to learn more about V's origins.

I received a free ARC of this book and am leaving an honest review voluntarily.

Character development: 5/5
Dark elements: 4/5
Steamy scenes: 4/5
Overall storyline: 4.5/5
Triggers: Yes, indeed

Lust fuels the worst evil. Love is overrated.

This story picked up pretty much where it’s left off, so be sure to listen to the first book as this is a four part series’s, one that’s dark and twisted with a wicked slow burn as the story progresses.

In this V the Protagonist is working through her Hit list while staying with the boys, who are for some inexplicable reason seems to be burrowing into her impenetrable psyche.
But completely aware of others still posing a threat, V is finally face to face with Dante where she is left still standing.. but in a quandary to his movements….after all she just knows her mentor was just getting started by his little cat and mouse game.

But Lordy!!
The way how these narrators ramped up the story is delightfully wicked… Lucas Webley and Hannah Hedley .. amazing bring the characters together with their own way of story telling!

Lots of moving parts like knowledge of the family and certain aspects of the characters life that I feel are breadcrumbs.. but man.. what a cliffhanger!
This author has got me hooked.

IN THE END, THEY ALL LIE

Better than book 1

After finishing this book I went back and read my review for book 1 to see what I was thinking at the end of that book to compare my feelings after finishing book 2. I wasn't a big fan of book 1, but it appears I was the only 1 who wasn't.

I did like book 2 more than book 1. No more flash back diary entries helped with that a lot, I hated them in book 1. I didn't feel like the first book was particularly believable and even now I feel like some of the plot line didn't really make sense.

So what do I like about this book and series. Well for starters it's very unique. Our anti-hero heroine is a female assassin and most of her love interests are younger than her. V is unapologetic and not terribly switched on emotion-wise. If there is 1 thing I like in a character, it's for them to be a bit broken and wrong.

In book 2, we see V in a new home with the 3 guys from book 1, all undercover as a high school student, doing things her own way regardless of what the guys want. The storyline felt more genuine and realistic.

As for the guys ... I like Lorcan and Dino. Lorcan fits well with V, and feels older than his age. He says and does what he wants. Dino is sweeter, but seems younger and seems willing to do what V wants to the detriment of himself. Jude I'm not a big fan of, but that may be because I find his type of character unattractive. It also felt like his switch to team V was too sudden.

At the end of book 1, I didn't know if I'd keep reading. At the end of book 2, I'm actually quite keen to read the outcome of the cliffhanger. I came wait to see Dante redeem himself.
